Johanna Helen Howard was born on March 10, 1952 in Germany, where her father, Edwin Dennis Howard, a soldier in the U.S. Army was stationed. The family moved about a great deal when she was young. Her father always dreamed of retiring to Hawaii, and after he passed away in 1964 Johanna and her mother settled there to honor him.

In 1970, when she was still in school, she married Ralph Lindsey, becoming a young housewife. The marriage had three children; Alfred, Joseph and Garret, who already have made her a grandmother. After her husband's death, Johanna moved to Maine, New England, to stay near her family.

Johanna Lindsey wrote her first book, Captive Bride in 1977 "on a whim", and the book was a success. By 2006, with over 58 Million copies of her books have been sold worldwide, with translations appearing in 12 languages, Johanna Lindsey is one of the world's most popular authors of historical romance.

Johanna's books span the various eras of history, including books set in the Middle Ages, the American "Old West" and the popular Regency England-Scotland. She has even written a few sci-fi romances. By far the most popular among her books are the stories about the Malory-Anderson Family, a Regency England saga.

Johanna Lindsey died on Oct. 27, 2019 in Nashua, N.H. She was 67.

Used Book A Thon: Read a romance

2.5 Stars

I didn't hate this. It wasn't great but it was good enough. If I'm being honest I would have given this book a full 3 stars if it had been smuttier. But this book had very little in the way of sex and when we did get a sex scene it was "fade to black".

Surrender My Love was okay. It didn't make me angry and the men while being "Alphas" were not brutes who used rape threats as an aphrodisiac.

Not great but still okay!

No rec.

¡Yo quiero a mi maromo xxxxxxxxxx!

This was better than the first one but this one happened so easily and with less angst than the first and second one. There was no doubt what he would do and who he loved. I didn't really care for the whole family interaction and found it distracting from the main couple.

Found a copy of this for sale at the library and had to have it. I cut my romance reading teeth on Johanna Lindsey. My first was Savage Thunder and I think I read that book in the dark a thousand times.
Lindsey's Viking series set the bar; I compare all other novels of the same subject to hers. These were books where you could really judge by the cover. Those covers made Fabio famous and women everywhere very, very happy.

In this book, Selig is looking for revenge against the Danish Erika for ordering him lashed. As handsome as Selig is, he is also a insulting, chauvanistic ass and it really got to her. No Selig's family hates her as well and turns a blind eye to his revenge against her. However along the way, Selig sees his error and can't help but to fall for his new slave. Huge, sexy Vikings fighting and conquering makes for a wonderful re-read.

I was teary-eyed while reading this book. I cried for the heroine, Erika, when she NEVER shed a tear! I am weak.

This book tells the story of Lady Erika of Gronwood and Selig Haardrad, the oldest son to Brenna and Garrick. This book starts six years after Kristen and Royce met, and Selig is departing for East Anglia. While traveling, he's attacked and later branded a spy.

Erika is the authority at Gronwood castle while her brother is away, and when a man is captured and put in the pit, she brands him a spy. When the tall and broad man chained to the ceiling insults her, she orders a lashing in anger. During this ordeal, a woman tries to poison Selig and laughs at his almost dying form, and Selig believes it is Lady Erika. So when his sister rescues him, he steals Erika away and enslaves her, promising to treat her just as badly as he was treated.

I was fuming at the way Selig treated Erika. She was chained to the wall and was forced to wear a fucking collar that he would drag her from. He even walked around, holding the chain attached to her collar, to humiliate her in front of his family. She was forced to sleep in 'her corner,' and he demanded she calls him master. But Erika was strong, she never let him think the chains bothered her and she refused to call him master and as much as he tried to break her spirit, he was unable to.

I read this book in one sitting, started at midnight and finished it around 4 am, and I do not regret it! The other books are great, but this one was the best in the series. With Selig's cruelty and Erika's strength, this book was a solid five stars. However, I am rating it 4.5 because I needed more groveling from Selig, but we only got maybe three pages of him 'redeeming' himself.

Overall, I would recommend this series to those who love reading historical romances, or any romance, with alpha males and fierce women who take no shit.

While on a journey, Selig Haardrad and his party were ambushed where he took a blow to the head. He stumbled into an Estate to seek aid, but he was accused a spy and when he offended the Lady Erika of Gronwood with his bold proposals, she ordered him to be lashed. Dealing with a head injury, a raging fever as well as enduring the lashing while she watched and laughed, he vowed to seek revenge. When her sister came to rescue him, they took Lady Erika with them and she would be his slave.

I really don't know what to think of this. The romance game is not strong on this one. I don't understand how could Selig had fallen in love with Erika? And vice versa? There wasn't room in the book for that to happen.

Or I didn't just notice it?

Brenna and Garrick, Kristen and Royce have had a lot of moments in the book. Although I loved seeing them again, I wanted to read more about Selig and Erika... But other than that, it was a great read unsurprisingly from Johanna Lindsey.

Can't say it was good end to a series but I truly did enjoy this Viking ride! I just wish Brenna and Garrick's two other sons could have had their own books as well.

1.5 stars. Really wish GoodReads would get on that half-star bandwagon.

I've read Lindsey before so I know what and what not to expect, but this book was so tedious. Usually I can swim through one of her works but I had to take SML in tiny increments. I blame it on a combination of nothing happening and Lindsey feeling she has to constantly remind the reader of just how handsome the hero is. It's like all the characters belonged to a cult that worshipped nothing but Selig's looks. If you dared to not find him all that and a box of chocolates you were sent out back to the sweatbox until you saw the error of your ways.

Selig the Blessed is a handsome man.

Nothing happens

Did I mention how handsome Selig is?

Nothing happens

There are other handsome men around but none are as drop-dead handsome as Selig.

Something finally happens

Sure, Erika isn't hard on the eyes but she'll never be a match for Selig's handsomeness.

Nothing happens

Even sick and injured Selig is a most handsome patient.

Nothing happens

Selig has been blessed by the gods with good looks! I can't stop talking about how handsome Selig is! Nor can I think of another word to describe Selig other than handsome.

Something happens

Handsome! Handsome! Handsome! Handsome! Handsome! Handsome! Handsome! Handsome!

In all honesty that's about how the book reads.

"Surrender My Love" is the story of Viking Selig and Dane Lady Erika.
After the amazing "Hearts Aflame", I was super excited for Selig's book, Kristen's brother.
The plot: While on a mission, Selig is captured and wounded. When he goes to the Danes for him, they mistake him for a spy and because of "someone", he gets tortured.
As his identity is discovered and he is rescued by his sister, to retaliate he kidnaps his now "enemy", Lady Erika and thus begins the journey of humiliation.
Now if you compare what happened to Selig to that he did with Erika it is a twisted tit for tat situation
Now my main problem with this book is the chemistry between the leads. There is "attraction", yet it is shrouded by SO MUCH anger and humiliation that at times even I got skeptical that they'd ever fall for one another.
They do get together, but that's almost in the last 1/3rd of the book and Selig is possessive of her..but the intense passion we usually seen in JL books is lacking. The book does improve at that point but there are too many misunderstandings for us to see the love the couple is capable of having. Ends in a HFN.
What I did enjoy were glimpses into the passion filled, HEAs of Brenna/Garrick, as well as Royce/Kristen.
I hope Ragnar found his too.

Lady Erika of Gronwood .. yang manaa.. HAH!! [image error]

Selig berusaha menjelaskan syp dy sebenarnya, dan maksud tujuannya.. hanya Saja.. Penampilan Selig yg seperti Orang Saxon, musuh besar orang Denmark, membuat sang Lady tidak mempercayaii dirinya. Sang lady malah mengganggap Selig sebagai Mata - mata Saxon yg ingin menyerang Denmark.. hadeehh.. [image error]

Wajar siih..

[image error]

Berita penangkapan Selig akhirnya sampai ke telinga kristen, yg kemudian mendatangi Lady Erika untuk menjemput Selig. Selig yg menyimpan dendam karna berani-berani nya seorang wanita mencambuknya.. memerintah Kristen untuk menculik Lady Erika dan membawanya pulang.. [image error]

Daaannn.. disinilaah keadaan kemudian berbalik...

Hmm it's really hard to try and review this book as frankly I could not decided whether I like it or not.

I feel I have to break down each story to give a proper review...

This is the last of the series and overall have been very good. Brenna and Garricks story had a beautiful setting, bodice ripper feel to the story but a very annoying heroine.

Royce and Kristen gave me butterflies, I loved Kristen and wished it were just 3 books for this couple, what a great story

Now this book no.3 is Selig (Brenna's son... Kristens brother) I felt the book was less romance and more drama... honestly nothing really sexual or captavating really came into the story until 300 pages in... the first 200 pages really was just waffling on about nothing and no one. Sigh.

Now I really got frustrated with Selig, he was so damn cringeworthy and spent 3/4 of the book with injuries constantly whinging how he will have his revenge.

Now the heroine Erika was someone I liked, and imagined something like Rosie Huntington Whitley from Lindsey's descriptions. Whenever she would get fiesty and sassy I could cry with frustration that as soon as I turned a page the story was yet on another irrelevant tangent. ARGH!!

Overall these stories are good if you like vikings, captives, medieval characters. I would definitely push anyone to read Hearts aflame though... I just wished it had of that falling in love feel with Selig and Erika.

Thanks for reading! xo

This book really takes me back. Surrender My Love is the first romance novel I ever read. Previously, I had read YA paranormal, but one summer I was super board, home alone, and came upon this book. I've always loved history, especially the Viking period, and decided to give this a try. My affair with romance novels, historical or otherwise, has been going strong ever since.
Surrender My Love is the third installment and is one of my favorite romances of all time.
The deliciously sexy, dark, and stacked Viking, Selig is ambushed and accused of being a spy. As he is being held prisoner, his only thought is of revenge.
Lady Erika's life was ordered and structured until a Viking is drug into her brother's dungeon. Now, she must decide what should be done with the hulking, arrogant man, who clearly was use to getting anything and everything he wanted from women. After questioning him, she orders him to be whipped, which is immediately regrets and tried to rescind the order, but circumstance work against her.
The story kicks off from the start but gets really...good when Selig takes Erika as a slave. Yep, typical Viking romance, but damn, I love it!
Now, I do have to say, Erika's pride was a little annoying and Selig could be seriously chauvinistic at times. Overall, they are a lovable couple and at times this story can be heart wrenching - as just about all of Johanna Lindsey's books are.
If you love Vikings, this series is a MUST!

Well...ok..gak terlalu terkesan di banding 2 buku lainnya... [image error]

Buat jaman tahun 800an, rasanya ajaib aja ada lelaki berwajah malaikat...yang ssaking cakep nya sampe semua perempuan gak sanggup menolak..
Untunglah ada Erika , satu nya yg menolak Selig...hahahhaah..kena batu nya dia [image error]

Adegan fight nya ga terlalu seru juga, malah menyebal kan banget sama budak yg sok cantik gak tau diri membuat pengen nabok [image error]

[image error]

Really good book by Johanna Lindsey.I preferred 'Hearts Aflame' to this one but i love how Selig couldn't hurt Erika, no matter how hard he tired.Even though he always threatened to-had some really funny bits were I out right giggled.
I loved the cameo, at the start, of Kristen and Royce. We see how they are getting on and how their lives and children have grow(children who adore their uncle Selig)
Erika is strong willed but very naive and sometime i couldn't respect her- she is very rash-her being rash is what got her into the situation in the book-aka best mistake ever--getting to be with Selig...i wouldn't hesitate anyway :) Selig is his usual flirty, handsome self which also gets him into his situation :P

Very good book-Like i said not as good as 'Hearts A Flame' But still good.

Selig's story.

Selig Haardrad is a gorgeous viking that while on a mission he is attacked. Ill and looking for help he is held prisoner and whipped in Lady Erika's dungeon. When his sister Kristen comes to get him released he tells her to kidnap Lady Erika as he wants revenge. The whole story is based around Selig's thirst for revenge.

Whats I loved is the characters from the other two books are here throughout the entire story . Maybe I was expecting too much from Selig's story but I found the ending very abrupt, I would have loved an extra few pages of their story a month or a year later.

All in all a great series and JL at her best

Honestly Selig is having it a little too easy here in Wessex of the Middle Ages. He is incredibly tall/ dark/ handsome/ successful/ great warrior / insert more ... but despite all that he is humble and all that (right). Okay, scratch that - he is not humble at all and as he fall into an unfortunate situation and needs to reason with the lady of the castle which he comes upon .. he bungles it terribly and she punishes him instead of helping. Of course he is raving mad at her (she doesn't worship him? what?) and 'hates' her and wants to impose some sweet revenge on her. The [of course] he cannot help himself but fall in love with her (why again?). I like Johanna Lindsey and I think the novel was well written, but I had to roll my eyes during just about every other chapter in the novel.
Your plus point here is the heroine, who is really level-headed. Actually she is pretty damn normal and reacts to all these infuriating circumstances in a way that will please you with its logic. Even though I did like the overly wayward Kristen from Book #2, she did get into a lot of trouble for it. Erika is smarter. Read if you would like to know how is trilogy ends, but still #2 is the best.

Book 3: Surrender My Love
Selig Haardrad is the son of Garrick & Brenna from book one. Selig agrees to go to East Anglia to interpret Celtic for an old bishop. On the way the men are ambushed. Selig was left to die. When some scavengers find him alive they tend him for awhile. When left on his own he wanders about and ends up at the gates of Lady Erika of Gronwood. Assuming he a spy rather than a man in pain and fevered, he is thrown in her dungeon.
When he is able to escape he takes Erika as a prisoner and treats her as roughly as he was treated, not knowing she had not commanded it. He did not realize taking her captive could endanger his own heart.

First thing I have to say is that I read this book about two years ago, and in all honesty even though Johanna Lindsey is one of my favorite authors, I remember that I really disliked this book that I just have to write a review about it.
1- Selig is one of the most pathetic heroes I have ever encountered in a romance novel and I hated the way he treated Erika.
2- I thought that Erika falling in love with him was either because of Stockholm syndrome, or because he was described as handsome in every few pages.
3- Even though I loved Kristen and Brenna from the previous book, I found that in Surrender My Love they were portrayed in a way that made them kind of mean.

this story is amazing, so funny yet so heart wrenching.. but it's too quickly ended.. there's much more lindsey can do to finish this story..

anyway the character i love the most surprisingly is not the hero or the heroine,.. it is turgeis ten feet.. erika's shadow... he is the most loyal, caring, n loving friends i have known.. it's wonderful to know that in the end, turgeis found his own happiness.. i really happy for him..

This is the 3rd book in an amazing series. I loved the first two, this one was still good but did not clear the bar as the previous ones. Worth reading though.
Plot 6(1-10) steaminess 6(1-10). One very good thing is if you have read the first two which I HIGHLY encourage it will please you to know all the previous hero’s And heroines show up in this one. Nice touch.

Eh, it was ok. I had higher expectations for it because I liked the first one and, well, he keeps her in chains - I mean, come on, that could go SO many places. But, it didn't. And I was disappointed.
