Scurry doesn’t pull punches when it comes to loss in the post-apocalyptic world, and it is very much a story about adventure and survival. There are Cultist-ravens, witch foxes and a mad beaver king.

Saying any more in detail might give-way the plot.

Even better than the first volume! Once again, the artwork elevates this story and makes it far more immersive than most graphic novels. It feels almost cinematic, as if you're looking through storyboards for a movie rather than static images. Each picture has a level of depth and movement and realism that's missing from a lot of comics. I'm really enjoying the story and the world the author has created, and I'm incredibly excited to learn more in the third volume!

The world grows in this volume and the adventure pucks up som pace, this was a fun ride that answers a few of the opening questions from vol. 1. Some twists and turns that doesn't feel forced or "shark jumpy" keeps the story fresh and engaging.

From the beginning, the reader is thrown in full action, the pace is fast and the story unfolds in a real roaller-coaster.
Saying more might give up the plot, pick it up and you'll know!

A journey to reunite

After trying to avoid the hawk Nemesis, tiny mouse Pict finds herself inside an old birdhouse that has kept her off the menu but the mighty hawk is more then capable of taking their food to go as Pict finds herself being flown away from the mice she was trying to reach. Thankfully due to interference from other predatory avians Pict is released and although now farther from home then she has ever been before there is hope as a cranky old squirrel known as Snag helps her find hope.

Meantime Wix aware of what happened to Pict is on his own journey to save her and to perhaps be able to see if the rumors of a vehicle with food could be found on the way. He too finds new allies and adversaries as he seeks Pict out. Whether they meet once more or doomed to their indivual paths for the benefit of their people I guess you will have to read to find out. :)

It is obvious that Mac Smith has done a lot of work to be able to draw the characters as well as he has not to mention the inspiring use of color and lighting brought forth in each panel of this post apocalyptic tale (you can see some how to stuff in the back.) Each animal although slightly anthropomorphized (imagine the Secret of NiHM but more realistic) is not only well created but are capable of showing emotions so it is not hard to tell what most are thinking due to their expressive natures unless they are actively trying to maintain a ruse like a conman or perhaps more arcuately conanimal. Only one more volume till we reach the end of this chapter of the story so we'll have to see what gets resolved and what is left to the next chapter of the tale yet to come. :)

I absolutely loved the story and artwork of the first part of this novel and the second has still got me hooked. The story of mice and their attempts to get food, their politics and scheming and most importantly their journeys across a post-apocalyptic world are so interesting.
As our hero travels and meets various animals - small and large - his curiosity is ours. The driving force of the novel grips and I want to know more. How did the humans disappear? Is it localized? How come there are exotic animals in the area? What caused the disaster so that mice, dependent on humans, are starving?
A great novel in the tradition of Watership Down but with superb digital art. Mac Smith also shows his working process and summaries of the animals in the novel.

After the apocalypse. When the humans are gone. How do the animals adapt?

Oh. Man.

The Wolves have stepped up their ominous game. The art and text beautifully portray the dark brutality of the wolves. Having already stripped the Eastern forests Erebus and his pack move West to continue their reign of terror. With the Ravens in their side helping in order to reap the benefits of the hunt the wolves set forward to dominate and rule.

Pict and Wix continue their separate journeys in the forest. Through them we meet a cast of interesting creatures all trying to scrape the best living they can from the world around them.
Eventually coming together they had back towards the colony where machinations and betrayals await them.

I just need to add. I LOVE the witches.

In "The Drowned Forest" we learn more about the world of Scurry. Our noble mouse hero Wix is sent on a journey to rescue his friend Pict, find food for his colony, and more. The world of Scurry is grim, but there are so many wonderful characters that make it engaging. The first book had amazing art, but lacked a bit of strength in the story section. The second book keeps the amazing artwork, and improves the narrative. A must read for all fans of graphic novels in general, and especially for fans of old Don Bluth films like An American Tail and The Secret of Nimh

Another brilliantly laid out adventure filled with suspense, intrigue and even some laughs. It’s bittersweet how quick these books go but I know they will be read many more times down the road.

There’s a moose in this one.

(Still spectacular art with obvious improvement from V1, enough mystery to the story that I’ll keep reading no question)

The art is really quite good.
The writing is not so much writing as it is a sugary chain of clichés and tropes. Also misrepresents wolves in a scene where wolves kill a member of their own pack.

I don't know where to start.
The brutality of the wolves is jarring and makes me uncomfortable. I love wolves but was always the person who turned away from the predator/prey portion of documentaries, to see the wolves be so violent and savage really dug into my brain. But I want to know what happens next.
The opening image of Atlas on the title page is amazing. I spent several moments just looking at the majestic rendering of the moose. I think he may be my favourite character. He has a calming and protective vibe that reached through the pages. I looked forward to panels that included him. I really hope he is okay.
The witches would be a close second for favourites so far. They are adorable and quirky. Even though I am not sure of their allegiance I really appreciated the levity they brought. Their facial expression and impish actions were a welcome respite from the suspense and tension of the story.
I was thankful that Smith re-united Wix and Pict in this volume and didn't drag it out. Honestly their journeys were harrowing enough and this way there is a little bit of hope to grasp on to while I wait for volume 3.

Confermo in pieno quanto scritto qua sotto.
