I don't get it. Every other page is some god smashing another god's head in. And then the gods come back to life and get killed again.
And all the women have huge breasts and not much clothing.

We can do better! Just read American Gods or Fables or something.

God is Dead Vol. 3
Collects issues 13-18

That Jesus.

Page one. First victim. Jesus. Yes, that Jesus. Shot in the head. The shooter, Albert, defends his actions,”… we don’t need him… We saved the World.”

Three days and a few pages later, Jesus is back. “I thought for sure all you guys had read my book.” Best line this volume.

Jesus brings the whole world back from the dead but the Returned are unable to die again. That poses some problems. Would you want to live with a sword embedded in your skull or missing half your face courtesy of a gun blast? Resurrection isn’t what it used to be.

Albert reunites with his resurrected family.

In the Aztec Realm of the Dead, Hephaestus betrays Athena, using her as bait for the jaguars that guard the Rivers of Blood, the route to freedom.

Hephaestus survives the jaguars and returns to Mount Olympus only to see Zeus is in charge. They battle.
Thor and other Asgardians crash the party with the intent to “… kill everyone on this mountain.”
Thor decapitates Hephaestus, saying “This is a hammer.” Zeus falls in battle. The day belongs to the Norse. The conquerors return to Asgard and are greeted by Hephaestus, his head held in place by a medical Halo. He’s not alone. He’s allied himself with Gods of different pantheons. More bloodshed.

Backup features include Eros, the cannibal God of the North, Sasquatch, and Deer Women.

This volume is full of the violence and sex we’ve come to expect from this series and some fun moments too (That Jesus…). If you enjoyed the previous volumes, you should like this one too.

Hippy Jesus is amusing but basically a cliche. Again, this feels like something I'd be proud of to have written in high school or early college, but later ashamed off.

It's a sophomoric understanding of religion and eschatology with a lot of nudity, violence and sex.

The earth begins to die due to Gaia's death, but people pray for salvation! Jesus returns and returns everything dead back to life. An interesting idea that's nowhere near as explored as it should be...

The middle section of this volume wasn't as interesting as the first two, mostly because it featured the same characters as the first volume and they were doing the exact same things. The best character shows up toward the end, so I assume he'll be the primary focus of the next volume.

I'm hooked enough to keep on reading, but the story is stupid... and I'm okay with that.

In which Jesus returns, only to discover that we're now extremely trigger happy. Not to worry though, the hoodied hippy has that whole resurrection thing going on - as does everyone else now too (Jesus! Probably don't get quite so baked before your next big decision, yeah?), leading us to our next problem: If you can't die, then life is just unending suffering.

Which is the case everywhere: after some meddling by Hephaestus down in the Aztec Realm of the Dead, the gods are back for yet another supernatural smackdown, while the destruction unleashed upon Gaia in the second volume means that Earth is on its way out too...

What to do? Looks like I'll have to buy the next Volume to find out.

I'm thinking that the best days of this series are past. The initial premise was interesting, and volume one was pretty good, but the rest seems to have been pretty lackluster, mostly an exercise in showing blood and boobs. This series needs a bit more spark. Just imagine if Warren Ellis were writing this, or Garth Ennis. Heck, just imagine what underground legend S. Clay Wilson could do with a premise like this. My point is, this is inherently transgressive material, and it really wants to revel in it more than it does. It needs more of a twisted imagination at the helm. I am enjoying the backup stories, almost more so than the main storyline.

It's pretty fun, seeing the gods and people interacting and chaos. But the arts a bit porno which really detracts.
