Note: The decision was made to consolidate all Disney publications under the name Walt Disney Company. This profile is for Walt Disney, the characters he created, and the company he founded. Any questions, please ask in the Librarian's Group.
Walter Elias “Walt” Disney (December 5, 1901 – December 15, 1966) was an American film producer, director, screenwriter, voice actor, animator, entrepreneur, entertainer, international icon, and philanthropist. Disney is famous for his influence in the field of entertainment during the 20th century. As the co-founder (with his brother Roy O. Disney) of Walt Disney Productions, Disney became one of the best-known motion picture producers in the world. The corporation he co-founded, now known as The Walt Disney Company, today has annual revenues of approximately U.S. $35 billion.
Disney is particularly noted for being a film producer and a popular showman, as well as an innovator in animation and theme park design. He and his staff created some of the world's most famous fictional characters including Mickey Mouse, a character for which Disney himself was the original voice. He has been awarded four honorary Academy Awards and has won twenty-two competitive Academy Awards out of fifty-nine nominations, including a record four in one year, giving him more awards and nominations than any other individual. He also won seven Emmy Awards. He is the namesake for Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resort theme parks in the United States, as well as the international resorts Tokyo Disney, Disneyland Paris, and Disneyland Hong Kong.
Disney died of lung cancer in Burbank, California, on December 15, 1966. The following year, construction began on Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. His brother Roy Disney inaugurated the Magic Kingdom on October 1, 1971.
The Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS) (commonly referred to as Disney) is the largest media and entertainment conglomerate in the world in terms of revenue. Founded on October 16, 1923, by brothers Walt Disney and Roy Disney as the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio, the company was reincorporated as Walt Disney Productions in 1929. Walt Disney Productions established itself as a leader in the American animation industry before diversifying into live-action film production, television, and travel. Taking on its current name in 1986, The Walt Disney Company expanded its existing operations and also started divisions focused upon theatre, radio, publishing, and online media. In addition, it has created new divisions of the company in order to market more mature content than it typically associates with its flagship family-oriented brands.
The company is best known for the products of its film studio, the Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group, today one of the largest and best-known studios in Hollywood. Disney also owns and operates the ABC broadcast television network; cable television networks such as Disney Channel, ESPN, and ABC Family; publishing, merchandising, and theatre divisions; and owns and licenses 11 theme parks around the world. On January 23, 2006, it was announced that Disney would purchase Pixar in an all-stock transaction worth $7.4 billion. The deal was finalized on May 5. On December 31, 2009, Disney Company acquired the Marvel Entertainment, Inc. for $4.24 billion. The company has been a component of the Dow Jones Industrial Average since May 6, 1991. An early and well-known cartoon creation of the company, Mickey Mouse, is the official mascot of The Walt Disney Company.
Like 'Dipper and Mabel's Guide to Mystery and Non-Stop Fun,' this fun guide to SVtFoE manages to be both fun and informative. I love the back and forth between Star and Marco and even Pony Head as they give information on everything from fashion to dimensional scissors to the Grandma Room. Fans of the show will find lots of fun references here as well as some interesting tidbits that explain the backgrounds of certain characters. The silliness of this book perfectly matches Star's personality, and it's a perfect read for anyone who's followed Star and Marco on their adventures.
Brilliant, just brilliant. I just love this series so much, started somewhere in the first season, then was hooked immediately and I am now with the horde of people waiting for season 3 to come out!
Before we start, I have a WARNING: Be sure to watch the entire series (it is now at season 2, everyone is (im)patiently waiting for season 3) or else this book will spoil you on events happening in season 1 and season 2.
The books starts off hilarious immediately with commentary by the characters on that cover photo. :P
This book is written in a delightful way. There are several fonts and each one presents a character. We have 3 important characters: Star, Marco, and Pony Head (bleeeeh). Star and Marco write the most, but at times, true to form, Pony Head butts in and writes her own stuff.
I was definitely not happy with seeing Pony Head. She is the least likeable person to me on the show, I would shove her in the same category as annoying Glossaryck, or Ludo. She is just too mean, thinks she is always better than everyone, insults everyone left and right. At least in the book form I don't need to hear her annoying voice, thank heavens!
So, I got that out of my system, let me start with the good stuff, and there is so much that I will just list them! *We got dating, inter-dimensional or normal. Not only for Marco, but also the teacher, for Janna, for Jackie, and several other characters. *We got advertisements for hoodies (red ones of course), but also others. And introductions to the two schools. *A greetings from inside of your spellbook. With pictures, spells, and even a phone book addition so Star could call people from the magic council. *All about Mewni (and I just adore the map at the back). *A whole slew of other dimensions! (Including the creepy cat one.) *Date, Marry, or Make Disappear Forever (or as it is in Star's world: Court, Betroth, or Sell). The answers were just hilarious, as were the options. *A lot of fun information about the characters and everyone's remarks about them. *There is some added mystery as we dive deeper into the world (for instance about Heinous and what she has on her cheeks). *Quizzes. *And a ton of other things. I also love how this book looks like it has gone through a lot. From weird, mysterious stains (often also commented on by our duo), to rips, ink blots, drawings, and much more. It was also so much that I could just imagine Marco and Star talking while reading this one thanks to the format of them going back forth with what they say, plus Marco's butting in, I could just imagine that perfectly as he does that in the animated series as well. I could list infinite more stuff that I loved about this book, but let's just keep it easy: everything! This book grabbed me and held me, sadly I had to stop for a bit because of work, but after that I sprung back again and read on!
The ending was brilliant, typical Star, as soon as she doesn't want to do anything, she just drops it. Thankfully, we have Marco to fix up the mess.
Plus extra bonus points to the lovely smell of the paper in this one. Sorry, I just love sniffing books! And I appreciate it when a book smells delightful!
So I would highly recommend this one to everyone, again be sure to watch the series first! As for me? I am hoping for more books, as I said at the beginning of my review.
For a media tie-in book, Star and Marco's Guide to Mastering Every Dimension is a fun, well-produced companion to the TV series. If you are interested in a bit more background on the characters and world, this provides some interesting tidbits with the added bonus of still being as filled with hilarity as the show! Best thing? Seeing all 12 of Princess Pony Head's sisters.
Is this a story? No, the Guide is just a series of entries about the people and places that Marco and Star have met/explored. It's filled with vibrant art work and there's even a fun poster at the end. Unlike most books of this type, the screen caps are not pixilated, and there's even unique art.
I love this world and these characters so much!!! It was such a joy to get to learn more about these characters I know and love.
Also, the end pages at the end of the book truly prove that Starco is the greatest m/f friends-to-lovers of our generation. Sorry, I don’t make the rules.
I thought this book was utterly fantastic. A few days ago, I found out that Star vs the Forces of Evil wasn't coming back until November, and this is the perfect thing to help with the hiatus. It was amazing to see all the dimensions that Star and Marco have been to, mapped out, and explained. Flying Princess Pony Head's commentary was also hilarious. The book includes an explanation of Star's three-story bedroom tower in the Diazes' house, which I loved because Star's room has always been such a mystery. It was also cool to see the previous exchange students the Diazes knew before Star. The timeline of when the journal was made is somewhat unclear, however. It's obviously sometime after Season 2 started, but it has no information of the most recent episodes, The Battle for Mewni. I think one of my favorite parts of the book was the pages on Star's grandmothers. Ever since all the drama with Queen Eclipsa, I've been dying to know more on the matrilineal Butterfly Kingdom, as well as the history of its queens. I loved seeing Star's most common spells from her battles explained. There isn't much we know about the wand, but this book definitely gave more intel. My other favorite part was seeing pages from Star's original spell book. It's still unclear which side Glossaryck is on, or where he even is, but he's one of my favorite characters. Glossaryck even revealed that some members of the Magic High Commission were created by him. (:0) The book also showed that Pony Head has twelve younger sisters, which has never been aforementioned on the show. Probably the coolest thing, though, was the recipe for Marco's Super Awesome Nachos! (It's a very complicated recipe.) Final thing: Star explains all of the outfits that she wears on the show, which has me fangirling, as well as being extremely grateful. In most cartoon shows, the character only ever wears one outfit, except on very special occasions, but Star switches back and forth between a few every couple of episodes. I also love the poster at the end of this book. I recommend it to SVTFOE fans.
This may sound pretty biased, considering my complete admiration toward this show, but I really loved this book. It took me a little while to come to terms with the fact that I'd have to wait for months until I can see new episodes, but once I did I wanted a copy of this guide in my hands, especially when I learned that there were small details about some things that weren't mentioned or explored in the show. Also, I'd hoped it would fill the hole the show left in my heart when Star had to leave Earth in the season finale. It was working for the majority of the book, but as the end neared I felt like a gas tank running on empty. In conclusion, it was a fun read and I'd definitely reread it.
THIS BOOK WAS SO MUCH FUN!!! It's the equivilent of Dipper and Mabel's Guide for SVTFOE. I loved reading it; we got some insight to some aspects of the show, and there were chapters that had me laughing out loud. Overall a super fun read that tied me over for like a week waiting for season 3. Only a few months more :/
I loved it, Im kind of sad that it didnt had a lot of Tom in there :/, and how in the book Star was kind of mean about him still. But I get it was when season 2 ended so star and Tom hadnt come back togethere yet. Still I wanted to see more of them xD. Anyways moving on to what was inside the book, I liked it. The drawings, the reading, everything was good. Pony head was funny xD,
I'm not sure if this book would be in any way appealing to folks unfamiliar with the show (although it might be a decent advertisement in and of itself ;D)
That being said, if you ARE a fan of the show this is a total must-have. "Handwritten" by Star, Marco and Pony Head (as well as with cameos from many other beloved characters) this is a fun crash course in the characters and lore of the series, with plenty of pictures/posters/pamphlets/stickers/doodles from their world for color. Learn Marco's Nacho recipe (it's BOMB ASS BY THE WAY) and the name of the little bear on one of Star's dresses. Watch Tom and Marco begrudgingly allude to their budding bromance. Learn the anatomy of Star's wand. Find the link to Oskar's Soundcloud. It's a good time!
This book was most relevant right after its release; we've since learned more about Eclipsa and Heinous for example- so it may come off a smidge dated now if you've kept up with the show. There's actually a second book like this coming out soon, and if it's anything like this I am ALL OVER THAT.
It's a nerdgasm full of fun for younger fans and detailed lore and snark for the older ones; if you like the show a lot you'll have a great time with this thing.
I had so much fun reading through this guide! I absolutely love this show!! They packed as much information into this book and lots of fun tidbits only hinted at in the show. Of course, we still don't know the answers to some of the biggest questions. And even though my copy is the B&N Stump Day special, the book doesn't cover the major information we saw in the beginning episodes of season 3. But it does include all the Grandma tapestries with their inscriptions, spells, and insight into Glossaryk. Overall, this was a bunch of fun to read through :)
This guide was filled with facts and brimming with the personality of each character. It is a very nice and fun visual guide to Star's dimensions. Though personally I think there was one part they didn't need mostly because it was ridiculous and disgusting. I couldn't read it in one sitting like most guidebooks - so it was a bit longer than I expected. Those are my only "complaints" about the book. But I would mostly rate this book 4 stars and it is the only piece of "merch" I own for the show.
got given this book around 5 years ago when i was really into the show and never read it, until now. turns out it’s a lot of fun !!
very silly and consistently strange in a way that feels super on-brand for svtfoe. nothing feels like it exists just to take up space, which i feel like is often the case with companion books to shows, especially those made for kids.
would recommend to enjoyers of the show :) but also i think ponyhead managed to get more annoying when i wasn’t looking
ok, so, TECHNICALLY, I'm still reading it, but... I'm a pretty big fan of the show... and this is REALLY fun... between the format and the wording I can hear the character's voices in my head(but I'm KINDA a nerd, and talk to myself in voices and (poo), so... whatever...) and I'm GREATLY enjoying it... so, I feel VERY confident my star rating on this won't reduce.
This was a good way to pass the time after seeing The Battle of Mewni considering the show comes back in November! (events of this book take place before it) This book contains secrets and answers to questions from the show. It's worth the read.
I bought this book at a comic con and laughed at just about every page because I read everything in the characters' voices. It was a great stress reliever during my finals and is a great buy if you are a fan of the show.
Did I read this book in all the characters voices? Why yes I did! Was Pony Heads voice the most fun to hear? GIRL YOU BET IT WAS! I finished watching Star vs. the Forces of Evil this month so I finally dived into this book. It was a lot of fun and reminded me of a lot that happened during the show.
Star and Marco’s Guide to Mastering Every Dimension is a pretty cute tie in, all things considered. Any fan of the show that’s desperate for any sort of bread crumb (like me) will be happy with the details revealed in this book. Some of the info is silly, others funny, and other bits can be astounding.
