"I'm Mia. I know how to write. Why's that a big deal? Because... I'm a cat."
When Keith is called upon to catch a pair of serial robbers breaking into nearby houses, he's utterly stumped. Why would anyone break into houses, but not steal anything? Why would they eat a bowl of cereal while they're at it? With Keith and the police just a text-message away, Mia decides to put her fantastic sneaking skills to use by staking out the neighborhood.
But there's more to the crime than simple breaking-and-entering, and catching the serial cereal robbers might cost Mia everything...
Perry Elisabeth Kirkpatrick lives in an undisclosed location outside of Phoenix where she and her husband chase their four little boys and an escape-artist dog. They don't chase their cats, however, because cats hate that. She is the author of "The Kitten Files" mysteries, "The Accidental Cases of Emily Abbott" spy series, and multiple short stories.
In addition to her writing, Perry enjoys graphic design, playing a number of musical instruments, and watching movies that make her laugh.
I’m so bad at keeping up on series, and this one is no exception. XD I let myself get two books behind, but last week I decided it was high time to catch up. (An accidental month of Kindle Unlimited does help, too. XD ) Man, I had forgotten how downright hilarious and accurate Mia is! Seriously. XD I especially loved how crazy she thought Keith was when he got wet in the rain AND took a shower afterward. Such a classic cat. I highlighted so many hilarious quotes. :D
While this book didn’t have as complicated of a mystery as the others, it was definitely still mysterious as Mia’s past came back to haunt her. ;) And the ending was super sad but also... weirdly hopeful? I loved all the rain too. :D
Best quotes: There are two reasons cats act like that when people try to take them for walks: one, it’s too much like being a dog; and two, it wasn’t their idea. This is my idea, so I’ll be fine.
Your loud. I scribbled on my notepad. Then I blinked and shook my head. Yikes! I must have still been groggy. You’re, I corrected myself.
Altogether, this was a very fun, short read. :D I’m definitely looking forward to more in the series!
3.5 stars Oh me, Mia is back again, and just as cat-like as ever. This was another delightful read full of humor and excitement. This was probably my least favorite of the series so far, but I still enjoyed it. Even if I don't like cats.
It's been far too long since I've enjoyed a Mia story. After finishing some training that left me needing something light-hearted, I picked up this story.
This was so fun and cute. Lots of funny cat action and of course, so much to laugh about, and a mystery.
In this one of those wonderful stories that you could hand even to a young child and allow them to read it, knowing there isn't anything objectionable in it. Yet, even adults like me will get a great kick out of the story.
I will say that the ending of this book makes you need the next one.
If you're looking for something funny, easy, and quick to read to lift your spirits, this is series is perfect.
I have been looking forward to this ever since book two came out. Not to disappoint, Mia was just as hilarious as ever. I found myself laughing out loud, which I rarely do at books. I can't say much more without giving spoilers. But comedy books are not supposed to end that dramatically. I was on the edge of my seat. I hope the next book is coming soon.
My favorite quote: "It was gone, somewhere behind the dust bunnies and the spoon that had lived here longer than I had."
And this one: "Why people are able to "paw" things, but I'm not able to "hand" things remains a mystery to this day."
There were some fun moments here--the banter between Mia and Keith (as usual); Mia's cat-like perspective on everything (why on earth would you take a shower after being out in the rain?); and the way she got Keith back for even the threat of getting her wet... XD The "dialogue" from the various dogs she encountered was very funny, too. And I totally identified her embarrassment when she noticed her misspellings! :D
The mystery didn't grip me quite as hard as the others have--maybe because there was less to actually solve than just to watch for... Quite the tense moments several times, though! o.o And awww...the ending. :'(
Looking forward to seeing what happens in the next book. ;)
4 stars & 4/10 hearts. Mia’s stories just get better and better. This one was pretty funny, but it seemed shorter than the others, which was not okay! ;P The whole scientist thing is giving a twist I wasn’t expecting to the stories. I really want the fourth book now. :D
A Favourite Humorous Quote: “I walked across his papers until I got to the one he was currently reading. I sat down in the middle of it so I could read it too. “‘There you are!’ Keith said, leaning forward to continue reading around me. After a moment, he said, ‘Right paw?’ “I moved it down a couple inches. “A few seconds later, ‘Left paw?’ “I sighed and moved it too. “After another moment he poked me and said, ‘The whole cat, please?’ “I glared at him.”
Title: The Case of the Cereal Robber Written By: Perry Elisabeth Kirkpatrick Genre: Children’s Mystery Recommended Ages: Any
Introduction: I've been waiting for this book for a long time. I read the first two right after they came out and then waited. And waited. And waited. Finally, there's another book about Mia! And it does not disappoint. At all. Ever.
Characters: 1/1 Mia is amazing as always. Her snarkyness, sarcasm, and utter cat-ness are perfect. I can totally picture a cat thinking the way Mia does. Of course, Keith is a great cat owner and detective just like always.
Dialogue: 1/1 I love how Perry had the barks and meows of the other animals become words to Mia. Between that and the actual humans who talked, all of the dialogue worked into the story nicely.
Plot/Storyline: 1/1 Even though this is the third book in the series, I think it can still be read fairly easily by itself. The reasons Mia can write, etc., are explained in slightly less detail than they were in the first book. As for the plot, I loved the twists and turns this story had. I was completely at a loss as to what the robbers were really up to until the very last chapter when all is revealed. But now I NEED THE NEXT BOOK!
Overall Writing Quality: 1/1 Very good. I didn't notice a single typo or grammatical mistake except the ones that were intentional and that Mia herself pointed out.
Un-put-down-ability: 1/1 I had to put this book down when my husband came to bed and then again when he came home earlier than I expected the next day. But if none of that had happened, I would have read this book in one sitting.
Conclusion: 5/5 My only complaint about this book is the way it ends! Too much of a cliffhanger there. What's going to happen next? And when do I get the next book? *pleading cat eyes* (because Mia wouldn't like the puppy dog eyes people usually say they have)
Okay, so I've read 3 of the Kitten Files books today which just goes to show how much I love them! The banter between Keith and Mia is hilarious! Also, those last two chapters? Totally killed me! I am 100% dying to read the next book!!!
Warning: There's kinda a super huge cliffhanger that will kill you at the end. (Also, poor Breanna!)
I am going to read the next book immediately, because there's no way I'll be able to sleep tonight with that kind of a cliffhanger.
Probably my favourite Kitten Case story yet! The first two chapters were utterly hilarious…actually the whole book was! And the ending…was totally not expecting that. Poor Mia!
Too-Good-Not-To-Share Quote: “Men in attic. Do NOT call/look for me. If I don’t come home pls do obituary.”
I read this in one night and I loved it. The stakes were slightly higher, which was perfect! This binge-worthy series is the best! I recommend it for cozy mystery enthusiasts and cat lovers.
A tremendous read. A series of break-ins close to their home has the neighbourhood watch up in arms and giving a small boy nightmares. Apparently nothing is stolen but there is always a dirty cereal bowl left in the sink. As Mia decides to go and check out the neighbourhood she needs a way to communicate. Ergo a harness, a smart phone holder and some dubious sewing skills from Keith. Learning to utilise the harness takes a bit of time but soon she is out sleuthing. Finding out why the houses are being broken into throws her into a panic. Throw in some award acting skills and getting wet should work - shouldn't it? Will it? Will the two men be caught?
A delightful short mystery of a detective who solves case's with the help of an over achiever cat detective that can write and use a phone enabling the two to work together without the knowledge of others. This spunky duo's adventures always leive you wandering when or if they will be found out. 🙄 Kat
THINGS I LIKED: Mia is hilarious and behaves just like a real cat. She very much reminds me of my cat, Libby. It's really cool how Kirkpatrick weavers in her being able to write in a way that makes sense and isn't weird/fantasy-ey.
THINGS I DIDN'T LIKE: I wasn't a fan of the scientist/lab angle, mainly because I'm sensative to people treating animals like that, so it hurts my feelings.
PLOT: The plot was interesting, albeit a little predictable for me, but I'm also a lot older than the targeted age-range for this book, so there's that. 😉
CHARACTERS: Keith and Mia's interactions were really funny and had me laughing a lot. The villains were a little . . . cliche, but then again, it's meant for a lot younger age than me.
ROMANCE: There's a hits of something between , but it doesn't go past a few phone calls, and accidental slip-ups f using their first names.
CONTENT WARNINGS: Mentions of a science lab. Mia has to , which kind of hurt my heart a little bit because I know what it's like to have a cat go through that, but it helped that it was .
NOTE: Even if it seems like a lot of content, but please try to keep in mind that I have to say it as is, even if the author handled everything in a very tasteful and classy way <3
AGE RANGE: 7+
I will definitely be reading the rest of these books, and can't wait to continue the adventure of Keitha and Mia!
I am basing this review on the fact that it is labeled as 'a cozy mystery for all ages'. If it was categorized as a children's mystery I would have given it a higher rating. As an adult I found it much too simplistic and juvenile. The language fell flat. The characters did not exhibit any real personality. Now if I was reading this for my young grandkids or giving it to them to read it is just about the right level for them; with easy vocabulary and concepts. Although once they have a real grasp of the mechanics of reading this book would not satisfy for long as they would crave stories with well developed characters and engaging descriptive language.
Some criminals are downright dumb. Eating a bowl of cereal in every house? *eye roll* It does make a catchy title, though, so I’ll let it go.
Mia is back, more hilarious than ever. Her thoughts are so cat-like, and I laughed over the shower bit. It really doesn’t make sense that humans want to get more wet after being soaked, does it? And, I totally feel the same about abbreviating text messages. It’s just wrong.
I was hooked and totally invested in the mystery, and that cliff-hanger was torturous. (Poor Keith!) I had to read the next one immediately.
This series is now one of my go-to comfort reads, and this installment was very good.
