Lilah is stuck in a horrible relationship. She feels she has to stay because she can't make it on her own. She's fragile, but has a core of steel. She doesn't always let it out, but when she does it serves her well. She has a dream of being of writer. Garret is an Iraqi veteran who lost part of his leg. He is a strong, loving, caring man who stands up for those in need of help. He is working towards his dream of opening his own bar. When Garret meets Lilah by chance he loses his heart to her. They have a lot of hurdles to overcome, internal and external, but once they find love they fight to keep it.
Lilah is an amazing character, you love her, you root for her and your heart breaks for her when she is hurt and abused. You want so badly for her life to be better, for her to feel safe and loved. When she finally lets go of, most, of her fear and let's Garret in her life changes wonderfully for the better. When she is once again threatened, and lets the fear back in pushing Garret away, it takes love and forgiveness from both of them to hold on to the love and life they have.
Garret is incredible. He lost part of a leg but still had a humorous, caring, loving, protective personality. He was someone you would want in your life as a friend and a lover. Loyal, protective, caring Garret. He has found incredible ways to cope, my favorite was his tattoos. They are uplifting, creative and fit Garret incredibly well. Garret is strong, brave and intensely loving. Once you mean something to him, he will go to the wall for you.
The main theme running through this book is hold fast to your dreams. Never give up on them, they are part of who you are. Both Lilah and Garret have dreams, and somewhat of a rocky road to them, but once they achieve them their lives, both together and separate, improve drastically for the better
Eddy's work is emotional, romantic and heartfelt. Once you read one of her books you want to read more.
