Wow - One thing that really annoys me are thrillers during which while you are reading you can figure out or are told quite early in the story who the killer or antagonist is. It's like readers aren't expected to have enough intelligence to work things out for themselves. I like to be able to figure things out for myself and that is what was so good about this intricately plotted, mesmerising tale of love, obsession, forgiveness, childhood, kidnapping and murder that had me hooked in from the very first page, frantically turning the pages and going through a mixed bag of emotions as the story unfolded before my captivated eyes.

This is the gripping story of three, well rounded, realistic characters, living completely different lives and the consequences and tragic events that result in them being brought together.

There's John, happily married to Jules, who's perfect life is torn apart when their six year old daughter Bonnie mysteriously disappears. Losing a child is every parents worst nightmare and it was heart breaking witnessing John's mental state deteriorating as each day passed by and the police failed to uncover any evidence of who has taken Bonnie, where she is being held or even if she is still alive. The descriptions of the torture and injuries being inflicted on Bonnie were hard to read at times but not overly graphic. John's chapters were intense, heart breaking and terrifying and were my favourite parts of the story.

Then there's Masie who is a nurse in the ICU of a hospital and lives with her boyfriend Ben. My daughter spent a number of weeks in ICU when she was younger and the authors realistic descriptions of the quiet atmosphere, hushed voices and constantly bleeping machines brought back memories of those terrible weeks that I will never forget. Masie is caring for a patient called Tim who is in a coma and she finds herself becoming drawn into the lives of him and his family and begins to feel increasingly concerned about certain occurrences as times passes by.To be honest, although I knew her chapters must have some relevance to the story and how she is connected is very very clever. I would say that Masie`s chapters, for a while anyway, were my least favourite parts of the story.

Our final main character is a young boy called Miller who's chapters are set in the past and oh boy, does that child have some very serious issues. The things was that whilst I was reading about how he was treated by his parents and others,I did feel a tiny bit of empathy for him. But was that how he was really treated or was that just how he perceived things because of his mental issues. Miller's chapters were spine chilling, creepy and shocking and I dreaded getting to them and wanted more in equal measures.

This is a very well written, debut psychological thriller that really makes you use your brain cells, has some clever clues scattered throughout the story and an ingenious twist that I most definitely didn't see coming. I absolutely loved this book, couldn't put it down and look forward to reading more by this author in the future.

i am SO confused right now and i don't know if it's because i'm an idiot or if this was genuinely confusing??

so yeah i can't really... elucidate my thoughts about this without having some Mega Spoilers but in very vague, general terms i just thought this was trying too hard to be clever, and complex, and red herring-y - but it ended up not really working.

Illusive, dark, and disturbing!

Lies Between Us is a creepy, well-crafted thriller that takes you into the lives of a cunning, evil kidnapper, an attentive, caring ICU nurse, and a desperate, distraught father of a missing child and has you questioning what they could possibly have in common.

The prose is intricate and menacing. The characters are distressed, raw, compassionate, and in some cases depraved. And the plot told from multiple perspectives and alternating between timelines quickly unravels as it spins you through a highly complex story filled with well-timed surprises, unforeseen twists, mind games, manipulation, obsession, and pure wickedness.

Overall, Lies Between Us is one of those stories that leaves you reeling and flipping back to discover what you missed. It's gripping, gritty, and spine-chillingly eerie, and clearly showcases that Ronnie Turner is not only a wonderful member of the blogging community but a fantastic writer with an incredibly devious mind.

Thank you to Ronnie Turner and HQ Digital for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Three different story lines are being told in alternating chapters. You know they must tie into to each other but you are not quite sure how. The tie in was brilliant and I am pretty convinced you will not figure out the connection until it happens.

John Graham is living a good life, he is a best selling author and his wife Jules is a successful gallery owner. They are expecting their second child. Then their 6 year old Bonnie goes missing from their home. It quickly becomes clear that this was a well executed abduction and it is personal. Whoever has her is trying to mentally torture John. Indicating they know him from his past and they have watched him for years. What do they want from John and why are they so angry?

Maisie Green is an ICU nurse that is caring for her patient Tim that has been beaten so badly he may not pull through. His wife Heidi is at his bedside everyday, as is his friend Watson. Except something is very odd and Maisie can't shake the feeling that things aren't quite right with this family.

Miller is defiantly the most intriguing character in my opinion. His story is based in the past, recounting his childhood. We get a look into his innermost thoughts and good god they are scary! Turner managed to do what a good thriller author does. She literally creeped me out and gave me chills reading Miller's chapters. "Sweet girl, funny girl, dead girl." Chilling words and trust me that is just the tip of the iceberg.

I was so excited to get an ARC of this book especially since it is a debut novel for Ronnie Turner. She did not disappoint! She definitely has a handle on how to keep you guessing all the way until the end. You know that somehow these three stories that seemed unrelated at first would tie in and they sure did. You just have not a clue as to how and when. If you want to literally feel chills go down your spine, spend a little time in Miller's mind. I look forward to reading more from Ronnie Turner. It is hard to believe this is her debut novel.

Thank you so much to Ronnie Turner, HQ Digital and NetGalley for the ARC to read and review!

Multiple storylines (John, Maise, and Miller) come together in this psychological thriller. John's six-year-old daughter has been abducted, and it appears the kidnapper has been watching John for a long time. Maise is a nurse taking care of a patient that may not make it. Miller is a sociopath with a disturbing past.

Multiple points of view and multiple timelines are used in this novel. I found the switching between POVs and timelines to be too confusing. It might just be me, but I tend to lose focus when books uses a lot of switching between people and time to tell a story. In this book, that meant I had a hard time getting into the flow of the story and never connected with the characters.

That said, this is a dark and interesting thriller. The mystery part was good, and I wasn't sure how things were going to end. Best read by people who enjoy a more complicated story that takes some focus.

Chilling, suspenseful, and convoluted.

I received a free eARC of this book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Ah, well, Ronnie Turner has written a thoroughly entertaining and decent debut here, but it wasn't without issue. I like to think I'm an astute reader, however, this was on the verge of becoming too complex and confusing. A lot of debut authors often make their first book a little too complicated, and as I tend to read crime fiction to relax, this overly intricate nature really puts a dampener that aspect for me. If you are looking for a read that will challenge you and make you keep your wits about you for the duration this may be a good fit for you.

The premise is sound enough, and the three different perspectives and timelines may have worked, but unfortunately, the author changes these far too frequently which led to a disjointed story. As I said, it happened so much that in the end, the flow of the novel was sorely lacking and repeatedly trying to get reinvested in the story was tiring. What Turner did expertly was create relatable and believable characters that you can really get behind, and the tale is a dark, disturbing and suspenseful one, although I found the conclusion was far too contrived and lacked believability.

Overall, a solid if unspectacular story that certainly shows promise. Bear in mind that reading is such a subjective activity, and just because it didn't blow my socks off does not mean that another reader won't love it!

I read Lies Between Us in one day. I think the whole concept of the book is excellent but I was left feeling confused throughout. Three different time lines, three different points of views. I really wanted to love this book but my head is scrambled with it.
It's a story of a boy who becomes obsessed with numerous people throughout his life including his best friend. He will not let anybody get in his way of him getting what he wants.

I would love to hear other people's opinions on this book.

What a dark and deceptive debut this was, I’m so impressed this is Turner’s first novel and I have to admit that she tricked me several times over! I like to think I’m a rather astute reader and can usually begin to guess (at least partially) correctly at the big twists but I can honestly say that I did not see this one coming ahead of time, so well done.

This is the sort of book where you have to pay close attention to while reading, it requires close focus. It’s told from three perspectives, Miller, John and Maisie and also via alternating timelines. I honestly had no idea how their stories would merge especially as they were all in different years, but I was very invested in each of their lives for different reasons. John was extremely likable and my heart broke for him as his daughter was missing and he was taunted by her kidnapper. Maisie was also relatable, but I struggled to see how her life would intersect with the others. Finally Miller was not the kind of character one can relate to (hopefully!) but I was still fascinated by him. While all three were very different they had one thing in common and that was that they were all incredibly well developed.

I don’t want to discuss the plot any further as I would be verging on spoiler territory, but I just want to end by saying again that this is such a strong debut. The writing was assured and fluid and had I not already known it was a debut I would’ve never guessed. I think fans of this genre will be pleased with this one, but remember to pay attention and don’t be surprised if you have to reread things towards the end because I absolutely had to!

If you’re looking for a story that will keep you guessing until the end and make your head hurt like you’ve been banging it against a brick wall for hours on end (in a totally good way), then look no further because this is it!

Three different storylines will at some point connect to make one great big whole but the journey to get there will tie your brain into knots in the most delightful way. Maisie is an ICU nurse dealing with a comatose patient. John and his wife Jules are going through the worst kind of nightmare when their daughter is kidnapped. And then there’s Miller, the creepiest child that ever creeped. What do these characters have in common? Well, obviously I won’t be telling you that. You’ll just have to pick this one up and find out for yourself.

I am absolutely blown away by the fact that this is a debut novel. Not only is Lies Between Us utterly compelling and gripping, it’s also amazingly intelligently structured. There are moments that’ll break your heart, some that will chill you to the bone and the brilliantly multi-layered, believable and complex characters will get under your skin, in a good and a bad way.

You may know I read a lot of books from the ever-popular psychological thriller genre. Often I figure things out before reaching the halfway mark. But not this time. In fact, Ronnie Turner has me wanting to read her book again in a desperate attempt to see what clues I missed. The different perspectives and timelines did require a bit more concentration at first but once I got the hang of it, I didn’t look back.

Lies Between Us is a dark and disturbing tale of obsession. Deeply engrossing, it kept me hooked from start to finish. A remarkable debut from Ronnie Turner and I absolutely can’t wait to see what’s in store next!

I ran, I walked, I ran, then I walked... I kept to the shades in the lanes... I followed silently hoping to see.... I picked it up and let it go. A love obsessed, a love fatal, I saw some and I left some...

This has been my journey into Ronnie Turner's book. Some words pulled me in so deep, some just frustrated me with its oblique meaning. Lots of pages made me re-read and some just made me give up. I was in dilemma after reading it. I couldn't really make out if I liked it or not. I loved parts of it. I loved the pain of the father when the child was kidnapped. I loved the mystery surrounding it all.

The story was a child Bonnie kidnapped and the story told from three points of view, father in the present, a friend in the past, and a nurse in the future. I loved the maze that Ronnie had created with her debut. I loved her imagery, her byplay of words. Her alternating chapters tried to confuse me and made me want to waver. But I stood steadfast in my guesswork.

I would want to read more of the author's work, her writing has the talent, there was a strange rhythm in her words, which kept my eyes locked to my kindle. But things kept niggling me enough in this book to keep me strictly in the middle.

Every parents worse fear becomes a reality for John when his daughter goes missing. “Not another child missing book” I can here you muttering, but wait Lies Between Us the debut novel by Ronnie Turner takes a familiar subject used in psychological thrillers and then turns it on its head. What makes it stand out? Firstly the characters, best of luck trying to work out their connection, it’s intricately plotted, and the writing is superb, best of all I loved the way the author keeps the reader guessing throughout. If you are looking for a read that’s taut with tension and rife with suspense then look no further Lies Between Us contains bucketfuls of both.

Told from three POV this book is very much character driven, the BIG question is what connects the three? As a parent my heart went out to John whose daughter has been taken, his emotions and fears were very credible. My favourite character was definitely Miller, oh dearie me what a disturbed and creepy child he turned out to be, the chapters told from his POV add an overwhelming sense of menace to the overall story. Maisie a nurse was a character who puzzled me I knew her POV must have some relevance to the story, but as to the “how” I just couldn’t fathom it out, but once I reached the big reveal and so superbly executed might I add, I realised just how devious the author had been. Lies Between Us does require the reader’s full attention due to the complexity of the plot, there were a couple of times where I did find myself confused, my advice would be to pay particular attention to the chapters time stamps it definitely helps.

There’s nothing more satisfying than reading a psychological thriller that takes me by surprise, and Lies Between Us not only surprised me it left me sat there flabbergasted. I did manage to work out the “who” after numerous false starts, but by the time I did I had nearly reached the end of the novel, so my “detective radar” was definitely scuppered by the author. Ronnie Turner deftly explores obsession and the lengths people go to in the name of “love” it’s deliciously dark and definitely very twisted but I loved every page of this novel. I must admit as I reached the conclusion I was left wondering about a few things, but that’s the beauty of this book as the author lets the reader come to their own conclusion.

I should mention the author has the most twisted mind (I mean that as a compliment) Ronnie Turner teases and taunts the reader at every possible turn. Lies Between Us is my perfect kind of psychology thriller, it’s one that kept me constantly guessing with enough “OMFG” moments to make Lies Between Us a superbly compelling read. A promising debut from Ronnie Turner and I will certainly be reading her next book without a shadow of a doubt.

So I hope I'm going to make sense and not ramble too much in my review but one thing I will try to do is that I will be as vague as I can in regards to the plot. This is because all of the little twists and turns are so worth discovering for yourself. Lies Between Us has a brilliant and tightly woven plot that had me questioning everything and everyone. I can't begin to describe how addictive I found the plot as I just had to know what would happen next!

You really are getting a perfect example of a book that will make you think, put you on edge and pull you in completely. If you prefer your psychological thrillers on the slightly darker side then I would definitely say you have found your book. I can't begin to describe how on edge some parts of this book made me with plenty of tension filled moments as well as being pretty chilling in parts.

I was so intrigued by the three characters of John, Maisie and Miller especially as they are seemingly unconnected. I loved the fact that I was kept guessing throughout making my own assumptions and trying to get my head around things. I thought that each character played their part and brought so much to the story whether it was bringing an emotional connection or completely creeping me out! One thing each character has in common is that I was intrigued by each one, sometimes when you have multiple perspectives one or more voices can get left behind. However I think Ronnie Turner created a brilliant balance making each voice as important and integral to the story.

I really didn't have a clue where I was being led and that made everything even more intense. I raced through this book in one day I just had to know how it would all end!

There are so many words that I could use to describe this book but edgy, dark and very clever seem perfect! Lies Between Us is a twisted tale of love, obsession and lies. Loved it!

I love a book that simply blots the rest of the world from my thoughts, so all I am left with are the voices of the characters desperate to share their stories. Oh wow did they share, every what if, every how could this happen and every gruesome detail of a festering evil against innocence. This book took me to the brink of madness so much that I read it all again, when it really wowed me! I couldn’t believe what I had heard and seen, it was simply so powerful that it rocked my belief in people.
Ronnie Turner has written a debut novel that literally took chunks out of my soul, as I felt so utterly helpless at some of the scenes. The writing at times is very simply here but it creates the biggest impact. Scenes that didn’t need long drawn out descriptions only seconds because that was all it took to destroy so many lives. She makes you look right inside the eyes of pure innocence. The trust of a child has to be the purest thing on this planet. I think it will be a long time in the future before these memories fade.
The story tests every sort of relationship with family and friends, trust, forgiveness and the dynamics that goes with each of them. It has brilliant characters and heart breaking moments that crush you.
The chapters are headed with a date of either present day or in the past with a chunk of story told by one of three characters. It does take a little getting into but really keep going. This is a super debut that will knock your socks off at the end. A story I needed to keep track on because it was complex at times but definitely an author to watch out for in the future.

Well, I'll just be over here picking my jaw up off the floor after reading this utterly enthralling and terrifying tale of obsession and lies.

Three different characters with three different lives and three different perspectives all collide at one point to impact greatly on each other. Maisie is an ICU nurse who gives her all to her patients, always trying to help and support them and their families as much as she can. John has the perfect life with a career and a wife he loves, a daughter he adores and a baby on the way, and a few close friends that make it all complete. But when his daughter disappears, it is the only beginning of a terrifying nightmare. And then there is Miller, a child who will chill you to the bone. How are these people connected? You will have to read the book to find out but I know you won't be disappointed.

The story alternates from different characters points of view which worked perfectly for me as it really opened up the characters for inspection and they were not found lacking. I tried to figure out where the story was going but I couldn't and I loved that! The tension is obvious from the beginning and it never waned or felt too pushed, and I read this book in one evening because I just had to know the truth.

Twisted, dark, and deeply disturbing, LIES BETWEEN US by Ronnie Turner is an epic debut and I cannot wait for more from this author who is set for stardom in this genre. But don't just take my word for it - buy the book now and discover it all for yourself!!

A solid debut novel from an author that I have been looking forward to reading.

I had been cautious going into this, purely as I find psychological thrillers that have lies as a main thread (or important enough to the story to be in the title), normally don't agree with me, but as I had wanted to read the author, I thought I would give it a go regardless.

Outside of some mild confusion referring to the lies and wondering for large parts of the book just how it all would fit together, I loved everything else.

There are three distinct story threads, focusing on in two cases the nightmare their lives currently are, and the other tells the tale of a young mans past, of him being obsessed, of him putting on a good boy front, once he realised it would get him further than being his truly wicked self.

And it was this thread that actually held me interest the most, as I sort of had to know two what lengths he would go to, and the incidents highlighted from throughout his childhood, paint him as a monster.

Whereas in the other chapters, we have a intensive care nurse, who is bonding with her latest patient's family, a man in a vegetative state, and the wife and young child barely holding things together.

Then there is the man whose family is experiencing the worst thing ever, their little girl has been taken, no one even the police can work out where or why, and slowly photos with notes referring to the mans past, arrived signed by the daughter, which ramps up the tension and despair levels.

All three of the stories could easily have a a whole book devoted to just them, but instead the author weaves a tale that means you need all of these parts and that as the book progresses becomes more and more gripping to read.

At the start of each chapter or section there is a time stamp and date, and it took me a while to get used to the different dates and years, as the view points alternate.

This is a great starting block for this author's career and from what I have read I can only believe she will go from strength to strength, and I know I am eager to see what her next release brings.

Thank you to Netgalley and HQ Digital for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Lies Between Us is a tangled, in intriguing web of characters, emotions and secrets... nothing is quite as it seems in this enjoyable and complex plot which kept me turning page after page late into the night!

I am so impressed by Ronnie's writing - it manages to convey the desperation, the sadness, the terrifying traits of various characters. I love the array of diverse characters and their problems, and the way they all slowly link together as times go on. I have to admit thatt times, I got a little confused between who is who and what their role is - if you want something simple and straightforward, look elsewhere until you're ready for a twisty, complex novel like this! I found myself having to go back a few times to re-read sections that I hadn't quite taken in, and try to work out who featured in that part, but nevertheless I enjoyed trying to unpick what was happening, and I loved seeing it all slowly come together in a satisfying ending.

I finished this novel with my mind still racing - like some of the the best stories, Lies Between Us will grab you firmly in its grasp and won't let you go until that very last page... and perhaps not even then! An entertaining, dark read which I'd never guess is a debut novel.

* Many thanks to the author for providing a copy of this book on which I chose to write an honest and unbiased review. *

Lies Between Us is Ronnie Turner’s debut novel and what a complex and disturbing thriller it is.

Three main characters, three different timelines – which you are well advised to make a mental note of by the way. Miller – a monster of a child who, quite frankly, should have been drowned at birth. John, an author, finally having a good life with his wife and young daughter Bonnie until the unimaginable happens and Bonnie goes missing. And Maisie, an ICU nurse, caring for a comatose patient who has been viciously attacked whilst his family and friends sit and wait by his bedside. Maisie had her own secrets she was keeping quiet about.

Lies, obsessions, deception and both mental and physical torture – all are a major part of the story. It must have been quite a feat for the author, keeping track of all the characters and the timelines – so kudos to her for pulling this all together to form a twisted and compelling read. I was kept wondering if, how or when the three characters would connect.

The pace and level of suspense was spot on. The characterisation was really well done – it was sometimes quite scary to have such an insight into the minds of such disturbed people, neither does the author shrink away from writing about unpleasant subjects; some events I found quite difficult to read, albeit that it was shown in an understated way. As for poor Bonnie, it soon becomes clear from the messages that her parents are receiving that she has been targeted; but why? With the police struggling for evidence and with no reliable sightings or witnesses, it’s a race against time to find her abductor.

All the way through I was trying to work out who and why. A couple of times I thought I had it, but then – no – those damn timelines scuppered my theories. I have to put my hands up here and say that I am either extremely thick (quite likely!) or I missed some vital clue along the way because at the end I was completely confused. It would be fair to say that this is a challenging read and for those who really enjoy pitting their brains against an author’s twisted mind, you will have so much fun with this.

So, did I enjoy Lies Between Us? Despite my confusion, yes I did. Very much. Ronnie Turner, quite deservedly, should be so proud of her book baby and I look forward to reading more by this very talented author.

Let there be no lies between us. It is scary to be one of the first stops in a blog tour. It is even scarier to review a book written by a fellow blogger.

The day has come. I am proud and excited to talk about Lies Between Us by the wonderful Ronnie Turner!!!

I would like to thank our wonderful friend Ronnie and HQ Digital for providing me with a copy of the novel. This review is unbiased.

I had agreed to read this novel before I even had a look at the blurb. Risky? Not really. When you meet a book blogger online, you get a good idea of their taste according to their reviews and I knew Ronnie and I were fond of similar books…

The only thing I hadn’t taken into consideration was that as a blogger herself, Ronnie had the key to create the perfect crime novel, knowing exactly what us blood lovers would look for. And imagine one of the best and most intricate plots I have ever read, she did indeed!

I enjoy multiple POVs but Ronnie Turner messed with my head with those unique voices taking me up and down an emotional elevator. It took me some time to get used to Miller. I just couldn’t get into his head. John pulled at my heartstrings. Maisie won my heart. But I couldn’t figure out a link between those very different lives. I imagined myself looking under every word for a clue, like a detective moves pillows or crouches under a bed in search of something to help them find a lead. The characterization of parents, a nurse, a very special boy… every protagonist played their role perfectly and I never sensed boredom or repetition creep in. Instead, questions kept slapping me in the face as I was going from one chapter to another, one period to another, one name to another, holding on to what I was reading to discover which threads would take me to the end. I empathized, I ‘tututut’ed, I disagreed, I felt my heart break. Ronnie Turner uses the entire range of emotions to ratchet up tension until you’re begging for … well, for more, in my case.

Tension must be delivered in a certain way. Ronnie Turner’s writing is sharp when required, soft if necessary, and most of all, always spot-on. Lies Between Us possesses a powerful and utterly gripping narrative and I was completely and absolutely surprised and in love with the author’s skillful prose. I wasn’t reading, I was living three lives. I was breathing the pages. Ronnie, your way with words is priceless.

Tension is not all that a psychological thriller needs. A strong plot to support it is a must. And a strong plot is a euphemism for what Lies Between Us holds. Dive into the novel with as little info about what happens in it as possible! I admit I was confused during almost up to the halfway mark. But good-confused! So much happens – nothing seemingly related – and yet one thing is told after the other in an outstanding choreography that takes your breath and your mind far away. In the past, in the deepest of secrets, in the unsettling places you wander with a fright in the body and a chill in the pace. Ronnie Turner doesn’t let any stone unturned and offers a compelling web that your brain will love to pick at until the naked truth appears.

I had my doubts about the link between all narratives around 70% into the book. I was proved right, but it didn’t make me happy! I am seriously wondering how the lovely Ronnie Turner came up with such a brilliant but dark story!!!! Should I be worried??? Truth be told, I’ll worry if I’m told I won’t get more of this fantastic noir psychological dish!

Lies Between us is an astonishing debut, an utterly fascinating and masterfully delivered tale of darkness and secrets.

Lies Between Us is the authors debut novel and it really shows bags of potential.

The story itself is split in alternating chapters between three characters. I have to admit that this is where I struggled with this book. The chapters with each character really had me intrigued but I found myself getting confused and struggled to keep up and had to go back and re read parts a few times to makes sense of things.

I loved the whole concept and I was gripped by each character, desperate to learn more as, believe me, some of these characters are seriously sick and twisted which is always going to go down well with readers who love psychological thrillers.

Overall a solid debut of which shows a great deal of promise and I look forward to reading more by the author.

This is a good debut psychological thriller that really makes you think.
All the way through I was trying to work out the ending as I was convinced the three different characters who we hear from were linked somehow.
I won’t say if I was right or not - I’ll let you read and try and work it out too!
I really liked Maisie and the chapters from her point of view really had me intrigued.
Miller is very disturbed and the chapters from the past show he has some serious issues.
John and Jules’ story is tense as their daughter has been kidnapped but I didn’t feel that I connected with them much.
This is a gripping story.
Thanks to HQ Digital and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

Lies Between Us is a very ambitious and brave novel, especially for a debut young author. There is no getting away from the fact that Ronnie Turner can write; she can create characters who leap from the page and has constructed a plot that is very complex.

Told in three voices, over three different time periods; Lies Between Us is not an easy story to settle into. The reader needs to work hard to establish each of the three narratives, and more importantly has to take heed of the date stamp at the beginning of each point of view.

Lies. There are lies and there are damn lies, and this story contains some of the biggest and most damning lies that I've come across in a work of fiction. Are the characters lying, or is it the author? As the story unfolds, there's that nagging doubt constantly in the reader's head; who is telling the truth, and how are these three voices connected?

Probably the most frightening and most compelling voice in this novel is that of Miller; a young boy sharing his innermost thoughts in the 1990s. Miller is just a child, but his observations are that of a cruel and warped wicked brain. His voice is incredibly chilling and this author doesn't hold back, there are scenes that will shock and the narrative gets increasingly darker as it progresses.

In November 2015, John Graham is a happily married author and father of six-year-old Bonnie. He and his wife Jules are expecting a second child very soon. Life for John and Jules seems fine, until Bonnie disappears. John's anguish, grief and to some extent, guilt is expertly portrayed by the author, and as letters from Bonnie's captor arrive, the tension increases. It's clear that this is a personal vendetta against John, but he has no idea why, or who. Or does he?

The third narrator is Maisie who works as an intensive care nurse. It's January 2016 and she is caring for Tim; a man who is in a vegetative state after being attacked. His wife Heidi is pregnant and she and Maisie become close. Sharing innermost secrets, becoming friends. However, Maisie suspects that Heidi is not telling everything .... more lies perhaps?

This author keeps her readers on their toes, and although at times I got a little lost and had to go back to check the date stamp of the part of the story I was currently in, there's this hook that keeps nagging away whilst reading; a determination that you WILL work this out. I can assure you, you probably will not!
Whilst the Tim/Heidi part of the story are essential to the plot, I did feel that Maisie's own story wasn't really needed; her own confession, to her husband Ben and then to Heidi felt a little out of the loop, although the final scenes after a surprising end reveal were very well done.

Lies Between Us is a very good debut from a young author who is obviously incredibly talented; her characters are outstanding. The premise of the story is excellent, however I'd prefer a little less confusion along the way, I do like to be challenged, but there were times when I felt a little bit too stretched whilst reading this.

I look forward to reading more from Ronnie Turner.

‘Will they ever learn the truth?’

Miller is a creepy, twisted and very strange individual. From a young age it is very evident that Miller is not well. His views on the world, his ability to control and his coldness make for a very chilling character. Ronnie Turner introduces us to Miller from a young age as we witness his ability to manipulate situations to suit his own agenda. He is obviously a young boy with issues, issues that are left unattended to, allowing him to further develop his influence over others.

John Graham has it all. His daughter Bonnie is the apple of his eye and with his wife, Jules, by his side, life couldn’t get any sweeter. John is a writer whose success has been slow to come. But now with his latest novel, doing well in the charts, John is happy. But one day all this changes for John, when Bonnie disappears from their home. Jules and John are distraught, desperate and very frightened. Who would do such a thing? Why would anyone take Bonnie? What do they want? With the police involved, horrifying images are sent to Jules and John, images of Bonnie. But on the back of each image, there is a message. This person is someone who knows them, someone who knows about John. Bonnie has been made to sign these images so they know she is still alive…but for how long?

Maisie Green is an ICU nurse. For her own private reasons, Maisie chose ICU as her specialty. With the relatives of loved ones in need of comfort at all times, Maisie is very capable of providing this care and her work with both patient and next of kin is very important to her. Maisie lives with Ben. They have a good life, a very busy working life but they always make time for each other and share their hopes and dreams for their future together. But Maisie has a secret that not even Ben knows and Maisie hides this, with guilt, as every moment passes. A patient is brought into Maisie’s ward, a married man, Tim, who had been attacked and discovered on a street unconscious. His wife Heidi is by his bedside and Maisie finds their situation very emotional. It’s playing on her mind and she finds herself closely observing Heidi. Maisie asks no questions but makes Heidi aware that she is there for her if she needs a friend, a shoulder….

What do all these people have in common? What connects their stories?

Ronnie Turner has written quite a complex story that moves swiftly between different timelines. As the stories of all these individuals weave their way in and out of the plot-line, it is very important, as a reader, that you keep your focus as you move through the story.

The dates are very central to Lies Between Us, as each chapter informs the reader of which decade/year an incident takes place. I have to admit I did get somewhat frustrated, but that could be down to my ‘very old’ eReader. I found it a little confusing but, I think for me, paperback format would immediately solve that issue.

Overall Lies Between Us is an impressive debut from a writer to watch. It gives us an insight into the rather deviant mind that Ronnie Turner possesses, a rather scary place indeed!!!!

Lies Between Us is three stories in one, with each one having a separate narrator. Their tales arouse both sympathy and horror along with firing up my nosiness as the author slowly reveals the secrets and lies that are lurking, sometimes in plain sight.

Miller’s story is downright creepy and begins in his childhood in the 1980s. Miller is the child that everyone avoids. Clearly disturbed he carries around the seven deadly sins in a rucksack on his back. But, as he grows he learns to hide these, not because he wants to be nice but because he knows it will allow him to get exactly what he wants..

In the present, successful writer John is happily married to Jules and they have a beautiful daughter Bonnie then one ordinary day while the two are having a minor tiff in the kitchen, Bonnie disappears. The despair is overwhelming and the police have few clues to pursue but they cling to hope as the kidnapper gives them proof that Bonnie is alive, for now.

Also in the present, Tim is in a coma and as his wife Heidi and young daughter visit daily, Masie the ICU nurse is on the side-lines, efficiently doing her job. Maisie is drawn to Heidi and the two begin a friendship as they sit beside the silent man watching and listening to the endless bleeps of the machines keeping him alive. But, Maisie has her own secrets and she thinks she detects that Heidi does too.

These separate stories were clearly signposted and each one had me enthralled in their own right but of course what I really wanted to know was how they were connected.

It was genuinely hard to believe that this book was the author’s debut novel, it was expertly structured with the pacing even throughout. I didn’t get the feeling that I was on a roller-coaster as I do with many in this genre only to find the final swoop is disappointing compared to the rest of the ride, it wasn’t that type of read which in my mind is to be applauded. Instead there was plenty to interest me not only in each of the narrator’s individual stories, but my mind was kept busy trying to connect the seemingly disparate dots.

Ultimately this is a story of obsession but we also meet love, loss, despair and damage to along the way. The genuine exploration of the effects of these was one of the things I enjoyed most about Lies Between Us. Too often I find, having read a wealth of books in this genre, the pointers to the emotions we have all met in our lives are used to move the story on but when examined in the cold light of day, are revealed as just that, devices. Ronnie Turner in slowing the pacing has allowed us to examine them in more detail and therefore experience them second-hand, with feeling.

BEWARE of SPOILER

The book was told in three different point of view; Miller, John and Maisie. Miller was a trouble boy, obsessed with another boy. John was a father who lost someone important in his life. Maisie was a nurse taking care of ICU patients and was drawn to a family of three and a baby on the way. Three seemingly unrelated stories that met towards the end for the big spoiler.

The biggest red herring was the name of the pov's owner. One of it was a lie. In fact, some names were made up for the sake of confidentiality. So, when the end finally came, I was a bit confused. The story itself, in my honest opinion, was boring.

Story about child's abuse always triggered me because I hated it when kids experience pain inflicted by adult. So, was monster born or made?

Parallel narrative was done abundantly and the only other one I had read was The Broken Girls
by Simone St. James, different characters that tie up towards the end. But for the life of me I couldn't connect with anyone in this book, making it dull and lifeless.

This book follows three people on different story lines, past and present. John's daughter goes missing. Miller is obsessed with his friend. Maisie is an ICU nurse caring for patients. They all come together in the end.

This was marketed as a Lisa Jewell-ish book, but it wasn't. None of the characters had any dimension. And the story was sooo confusing. A lot of back and forth without it being complimentary. It was hard to get into. It started getting kind of interesting more than halfway through the book, and then the ending was really dumb. Did not enjoy.

Dark. Disturbing. Gripping. Clever. Just some words that spring to mind when I think about this novel. Lies Between Us is a very impressive debut from Ronnie Turner. If you enjoy a strong mystery, you need to read this novel. When it comes to domestic thrillers, I really like the ‘missing child’ storyline, it’s one I can read about over and over, and I have read about it over and over! But, the way Turner portrayed it in this novel was unique; she managed to convey all the emotion of this storyline as you would find in a full-length novel where this is the only storyline, and masterly weave in two other storylines too!

Maisie’s storyline was my favourite, don’t ask me why, it just was, I guess I just found it the most intriguing. It wasn’t the darkest, Miller wins that award – whoever said children couldn’t be deranged, obsessive and disturbing as hell, clearly never met Miller. Now, where it gets tricky – the timeline of these three storylines does jump about a bit, but once the characters are cemented in your mind these jumps are easy to follow, without becoming muddled. And with any book with multiple timelines, you’re desperate to know just how/if these storylines will merge.

Lies Between Us is one of those books you stay thinking about once you’ve turned the last page, in fact you probably think deeper about it once you’ve finished it than while you were reading it. You let the brilliance of all that occurred sink in! And if you’re anything like me, you’ll message a friend who has read this book so you can talk about it, discuss what happened, what you thought you knew, confirm what you knew to be correct was actually correct – this is a fantastic choice for any book club!

The way everything came together in this novel was genius, really impressive! There was only one thing that bugged me, an instance where I thought the reader manipulation was a bit too extreme, to the point where I felt it backfired a bit, and rather than adding to the awe, it came across as trying too hard. But, as for the rest of the reader manipulation, I loved it, I loved the way my mind was toyed with, the lengths of the deception, how deep the truth was buried!

Let me not overlook how well written this novel was – the chilling tones Turner conveyed, the moments of love, pain, grief, all powerfully conveyed to the reader. It was this array of emotions that breathed life into this novel, and had you invested in it. Ronnie Turner is a new name in crime fiction, but with this novel, she has announced herself! I cannot wait to see what she writes next; Lies Between Us is a dark, disturbing, engaging, cleverly plotted psychological thriller that I highly recommend.

Where do you start when you read a debut that you have high hopes for? From the moment I read the blurb to Ronnie Turner’s book, I knew it would be right up my street! The blurb gives three key characters, each different in their own way and each with their own part to play in this twisted tale.

Miller is a sinister character. From the start, he gave me the chills. As I read more of his chapters, the more he made me feel uneasy #shudder.

Maisie is portrayed just as I’d like to imagine the perfect nurse in ICU. She’s there caring for the patients who can’t talk back. Having recently been in hospital it can be quite lonely as in my experience, nurses can be quite a chatty bunch!

As for John, my heart broke for him and Jules when Bonnie was taken. It’s a parent’s worst nightmare and it spirals deeper into a hell on earth for the couple.

From the start, I was constantly trying to work out the connection between these three characters. I was totally befuddled how these three distinct timelines would intertwine but when they did 🤯

Oh the climax 😱 I had to read it twice as I thought I’d missed something because I did not see that coming! Oh my! Ms Turner has written a blinder with that ending!

This is an impressive debut from Ronnie Turner. I could tell she’s drawn on her love for reading to create a unique story which keeps you guessing to the end. I for one can not wait to see what Ms Turner pulls out of her imaginative hat for book 2!! I applaud you Ronnie!

Perfect for fans of Jane Corey and Fiona Neil.

This is a dark debut psychological thriller that messes with your mind from the outset as you get to grips with three different narratives and differing time periods.

At times I had to flip back to make sure I had properly understood what had happened and how it influenced the next chapter, but the little lies and hints and truths are scattered throughout the book.
Once the three stories get to the point that they properly coalesce it’s a big shock to the plot and is fascinating to read...

I will definitely read future books by this author!

I received a free copy of this book courtesy of the author and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. My review will also form part of the upcoming blog tour and all views are my own.

I'll write this straight out, I read 70% of Lies Between Us in one sitting and the whole book in 24 hours. Often, I'm a slow reader, not this time, all I wanted to do was carry on reading, which I did and thereupon I devoured the book. Due to this, I feel that Ronnie needs to add to her name as Ronnie Turner doesn't cut it. Henceforth, Ronnie shall now be known as Ronnie 'page' Turner because Lies Between Us with its ominous air of mystery is a real page-turner of a book, get it!😱😂😝

Or! As I was kicking it old school and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was on the TV when I was writing this review you can have the gangsta version: 'damn, girl you got mad skillz'.😱😂😝

The story in Lies Between Us is told from three different characters perspectives and takes place across three separate timelines. The story, itself is seemingly disparate and you will, on occasion (which is part of the enjoyment as you will wrack your brain trying to figure it out) wonder how the characters and their stories are connected. However, as the story progresses, getting darker and darker and building to the climax Turner manages to pull her threads together with plenty of chills, some clues, gasps, shocks, twists, a couple of 'oh shit' moments and scenes that burrow under your skin thrown in along the way.

Coming from a fantasy background and as someone used to reading multiple PoV (point of view) books I can eat three for breakfast with ease. As such, I was easily able to keep on top of the alternating PoV and timelines in Lies Between Us. Some who prefer a chronological and linear approach to their storytelling might find the constant swapping between the characters jarring, as I mentioned, I didn't.

The three characters are Miller, a troubled and obsessive child. Maisie, a harried nurse in the ICU. And, John, a father tormented over the kidnapping of his child.

Out of the three different PoV characters my favourite was Miller. We follow Miller across a span of his childhood years and there's something seriously creepy and sinister about him. Delving into his insidious mindset (in layman's term, he's a fucking weirdo) and having the chance to look inside his head where there is something inherently wrong with his wiring was fascinating to explore.

John's PoV is harrowing, at the start of Lies Between Us, a happy family life that is then ripped apart by the loss of his daughter after she is kidnapped. His story is an open wound that festers, that weeps and one that is full of grief. The loss of his child, his despair and suffering are written by Turner in such a way that you can feel the distress, the raw pain and the tension of the situation emanating from off the pages.

Maisie was my least favourite of the three PoV characters created by Turner, that's not to throw shade on the actual character or her story that focuses partly on her personal life and partly on her work life caring for a comatose patient in the ICU. Simply, she was my least favourite (she may well be another reader's favourite, that's how reading works, it's a personal experience and we all have different tastes) of the three but her, John and Miller's chapters are in their own way, all interesting and all add to the story being told by Turner.

One thing I've learnt about myself from reading fantasy featuring various PoV characters is that most of the time I always have a favoured story arc and character. One that I gravitate towards, and, for me, in Lies Between Us that was Miller. Oh, Miller, he's an unhinged individual who fixates on and becomes infatuated with people. His story contains some unsettling scenes and sadistic behaviour and I couldn't wait to delve back into his disturbing and obsessive psyche as I found reading about him and his malignant personality to be utterly gripping.

Lies Between Us is a very character-driven read. The use of the three different PoV characters by Turner serves to keep the story moving forward and allows you, as the reader the chance to get a feel for and to really become acquainted with the characters, their personalities, their back stories and their lives.

You wouldn't know that Lies Between Us is a debut from Turner. Her writing, often poetic and with the ability to evoke emotion and imagery effortlessly draws you into her work. She writes in such a confident way that you feel like she already has many books under her belt.

Lies Between Us is an outstanding debut, it chills, it thrills, it is sublimely suspenseful and Turner has the potential to be a huge name within the psychological thriller genre.

For a debut novel this book reads very well and for me it slots well in to the busy, popular and very competitive psychological thriller genre - the story is definitely one that I enjoyed!

The book has some very well developed characters and I felt that their interaction within the story was completely on point and it really helps to carry the plot through to the ending. I enjoyed finding out more about them as the story progressed but I did guess quite a few key points in the plot before they were confirmed. It kept me engaged and I'd read it in 2 days.

I enjoyed the plot and how the story is told through several characters. In the main I didn't find it confusing but I will admit that I did have to read the ending more than once as I found it a tad disjointed but it didn't really detract too much from my enjoyment overall of the story.

Four stars from me, it is a well written story with a great set of characters and I loved the main storylines that run through it - looking forward to see what the author releases next!
