What first drew me in to read this manga was the art. However, the story itself moves incredibly fast and I really have no idea how much time passes in the first volume. It gets right into the main plot with basically no introduction. It's just like "BAM! I'm here, we're doing this."

I will read the second volume since there are only two in the series. Personally, I would have liked it to be more informative and at a slower pace, especially since reading a little paragraph about the plot made me understand it a lot more than reading the first volume did.

--- Le Potrait de Petit Cossette 1-2 ---
Plot: Gelap, penuh nuansa misterius.
Gambar: Nuansa kelam tapi kelas atas^^.
Penokohan: Ok

Saya benar-benar agak bingung.

🌸SYNOPSIS
Eiri is an art student who works part-time in an antique store where he has become obsessed with a girl named Cosette, a portrait that is for sale. There is more to Cosette than this one portrait portrays, it is the key to a tragic tale. Anyone who ends up owning the painting, dies in bizarre ways. Before long Cosette appears to Eiri, asking him for help, asking for him to save her. Would he be able to save Cosette from the dark and tragic tale? Or will he end up losing his life?

🌸OPINION
Originally, I knew about this manga due to seeing the anime movie years ago and I was enthralled by it back then. It wasn’t until recently I found out it was a two-volume manga. Despite being an out of print manga, I managed to find them second-hand and procured them.
I much prefer the manga since it seems so much more expressive in its very monotone art style, it has a strong art style that seems to emphasis the play of light and darkness that seems to surround the story of Cosette and fate of Eiri.
Its themes are deep and dark following a tragedy that results in death and sadness due to Cosettes tortured soul and I really enjoy that about this manga, even when it leaves the reader at a cliff-hanger, making it ideal to own both volumes if one wants to see how this tale ends. Truly ideal for people who love gothic themes, love and suspense where you may even question the story but it has kind of made more sense to me than the film did at times.

🌸PRO
Enticing art style despite it being years old
The story, I love ones that is full of mystery and horror

🌸CON
Cliff-hanger, but it works really well in this series
Obtaining the manga may be a challenge due to age and out of print status

🌸FINAL SAY
“Nothing can be done, except to surrender”
Yes, surrender to this series. It is amazingly good, it’s dark and cryptic but sets the mood and story within the first volume and I assume that the second volume concludes this tale by answering everything that the first one has put forward. I do recommend this series to those who enjoy dark tales where death and sadness is a common theme or even for the gothic romance feel.

I never watched the anime so I can't tell whether the manga is better than the anime or not, but Le Potrait de Petite Cossette was a pretty good manga. The main reason it only got four stars is because the mangaka wasn't able to draw Cossette in a way that convinced me she was so beautiful you go nuts over her and it was a little too fast. Other than that, it was awesome. The Gothic touch was added in the right places. Although it wasn't very scary, it was kind of creepy to watch how an obsession can send someone over the edge. Also, the way feelings and situations were described was beautiful. The wording was deep. Here's an example:

Provocative smile, sensual glance, enticing lips... The catastrophe woven from hopes and dreams. Ruling me completely. Shutting away the boredome of everyday life from my mind. Bringing even the gravity of ungracious time to naught.

Her white arm is the border - the end of the world without the bounds of life, the touch of which could intoxicate one to bliss. It doesn't matter whether she originated from love or death. In front of her sweetness, everything is powerless. Nothing can be done... except to surrender.

Cool, right? I wish there were more of these, although there's quite a few in the manga. Oh well.

Anyway here's the summary...

Eiri, the male lead, is being haunted by images of a beautiful girl he doesn't know. He tries to remember where he's seen her before but couldn't until he once again came across the painting with her on it. Her name is Cossette and her soul is trapped inside the paiting. She asks for Eiri's help to "save her". He agrees and now they're hunting after Cossette's possessions, which are giving off negative feelings that are affecting people.

But Cossette has a tragic story: people who own the painting have all been murdered in bizarre ways. When Cossette's spirit appears in front of Eiri, she asks him to save her. His infatuation with the girl from the beautiful painting sends him through hell and back.

The gothic imagery and melancholy vibe were both fantastic, there are some truly stunning shots throughout this short series. Unfortunately, the plot is just barely coherent and the drive of the story and characters have no depth to them at all. It utilizes gothic-horror archetypes without making full use of them or taking the time to flesh out a compelling narrative. It's all style and no substance. I enjoyed it for the glamorous art alone.

A fantastic first volume in this curious series. Cursed objects, murder, suicide, ghosts, spooky things going bump in the night, and a boy a bit too invested in this whole thing. Yes, I love that Eiri promised Cossette, promised to help her. Promised to save her. But at times he just dropped everything, did things rushed or without thought, he stops caring about friends, work, and college. And it just made the story less for me. I would have rather see it be more balanced, less possessed and hurried, and more calculated.
But other than Eiri, I love this story and how spooky and creepy it is. I love finding out more about Cossette, see what happened to her and why she is now a ghost, see what possessions are in the world (and oh yes, I am not buying anything at an antique store, haha).
I like the art, it is quite pretty at times.

With the recovery of each item that she bled (probably) on, Cossette supposed murderer would be unveiled. The story is really fast-paced but it's flat. I don't really care about Cossette or her death nor do I care about the main character. There was nothing to care about. She was pretty and she was just there. I guess that's why the MC's at her beck and call.

Cool and creepy manga. =] I like the concept here. The story increased my wariness of getting any antique stuff that aren't from my family.

Bintang 2
Petite Cossette #1/2.

SIAPAKAH COSSETTE???

Kurahashi Eiri, mahasiswa fakultas seni, pekerja magang disebuah toko barang antik. Semenjak dirinya melihat lukisan gadis kecil Eropa abad pertengahan y berjudul "Petite Cossette" digudang toko, Eiri selalu berhalusinasi melihat gadis itu.

My thoughts:
the artwork is very well done. The story is also very fast paced which does not take you very long to read, and the only pet peeve I would have to say is that the story is considerably short. It leaves a slight cliff hanger at the end  of volume two that makes me want to continue when that is unfortunately where it ends, other than that it is a good story and I would recommend it to anyone who is into ghost story/ drama related stories.

the synopsis of the story:
When Eiri Kurahashi, an art student who works part-time in an antique shop,  comes across a portrait of a girl named  Cossette on sale in the store, her spirit appears in front of him, asking him to save her. Afterward becoming obsessed with her he finds out like all of the other antiques in the store even her own portrait has a gruesome tragic story attached to it: with all of the portraits previous owners being murdered in one bizarre way or another.

You know, little girls in Victorian clothes are creepy. Even more so, when those girls are ghosts and you're the only one who sees them. And even more, when weird things are happening around said girl and people are dying.

That's exactly what's happening with Cossette - she is the sweet little girl on a painting, that brings death upon every of it's owner. Until an art student discovers the painting, being able to see Cossette's ghost as well. From that day on, his life is in constant danger, since it's not only the painting itself, but also other things, which belonged to the young girl that brings dead and misfortune upon people. And he had decided to collect them, not wanting to see Cossette sad anymore.

The art isn't one of those I immediately fall in love with, but it's still good enough for my liking to not just abandon the manga. The story is nice, horrorish with some really creepy moments. Especially towards the end of the first volume does it get really interesting, so I can't wait reading the next one.

Review for the whole manga series

This manga only has 2 volumes so it's a very short manga. I gotta admit after reading Volume 1 I was confused because the things are not that explained and I don't know exactly where the story is going. However, when I've read Volume 2 everything finally makes sense. It was the type of manga that is very creepy and there's like this horror and gothic feeling. I really like the ending because I didn't really expect that it would end that way. Because it ended in a very tragic and scary way. And I never really thought that the ghost was evil because she's very cute and she's like very beautiful and fragile that I didn't really expect her to act that way in the end.

So, 5 stars for creeping me out and the unexpected twist in the end.

Based on a 3 part OVA rather than the other way around. A strange story. I found the manga to be more accessible than the anime, which I watched right after reading the two volumes. Great artwork; features a classic gothic lolita character trapped in a sort of purgatory who can only get out with the help of the one person who can actually see her. That person turns out to be a young art school student working at an antique shop. Only problem is, her possessions evidently have souls and they kinda want to kill him. Oh, and the ritual for bringing Cosette back into the world of the living will probably kill him too. Good times...

"Who will love me enough to sacrifice... his very life"
4 years ago, I was a young girl with an taste for gothic culture and paranormal events. I saw this little manga amongst the graphic novels stacked in a local bookstore. Being the first manga I owned, i immediately loved it as I have always been a fan of the idea of reincarnations.

Cossette's beauty is mesmerizing and you will love her to ruins, unfortunately she is cursed. A striving young artist began drawing her, as his muse. The ghost of Cossette appears to the young artist, and I gripped the edge of my seat because their unusual romance is utterly captivating!

This manga is.. painfully beautiful and heart-wrenchingly romantic.

The art is pretty blah at best and the story has a few okay points but mostly just peters out. It's not a redone version of the OVA or what the OVA was based on so far as I can tell. Sort of like an AU version of the OVA, or what took place right before the OVA with another version of the OVA protagonist? Dark, depressing, probably easy to skip since it's so hard to find anyway.

It's different that the manga is based on the anime, rather than the other way around. But this is short (two volumes) and I loved the anime for the horror and not-so-happy ending.

It can be confusing at times, but it's pretty, and fills it some more of Cossette's past (in the second volume). Not great, but decent, and I loved the art.

The story was about a guy named Eiri who was haunted by Cossette who insisted a help coming from him.

Okay. The book was so creepy in a good way. I like the killings in every chapter, the mystery of Cossette, the way Eiri helped the girl, and also the graphic was really excellent.

The manga has only two volumes, its very short. Based on the popular anime. This one is worth a shot.

A creepy story about a college student who is haunted by a possibly underage lolita with a penchant for blood. Petite Cossette is a good quick read. It attempts to be profound, but often doesn't quite succeed. Sometimes it's downright confusing, but overall enjoyable. The art is fabulous as well.
