Just as good as the first volume. I love Tanjiro's and Nezuko's sibling relationship so much. It's adorable.

"Kibitsuji Muzan! I won't let you go away! No matter where you ran to, I will pursue you till the end of the hell itself! I will remove the head of yours with my blade! I will definitely never forgive you!" [Tanjiro]

Vol. 2 of Demon Slayer was full of surprises. Usually the hero needs to deal with the small beans first, while trying to find the big bad, but it's not what happened here. We got introduced to the final boss right away. It was something that completely caught me off guard while watching the anime, because Tanjiro just caught some familiar scent, chased after it and then BOOM there he was, the Smooth Criminal of the Demon Slayer universe - the Michael Jackson himself! Who does that in their story, who introduces their final villain so early and shows us his menacing nature right away? It's not something you see very often, so props to the author for it.

Big brother, I'm alone in the dark, I'm so scared.
Big brother, hold my hand like you always do.

Eh... ? Who is the big brother I'm thinking about?

Vol. 2 is the book where the reader starts to get thrown into the emotional conflict, because this is where, through the example of the mutant demon, the author shows us one of the biggest truths of the world - that the evil is not born, but it's made. We as the readers have seen the gruesome side of the Demon Slayer universe. We've already seen the tragedies that the demons are responsible of, so in the humans vs demons fight the side for us to stand on should be obvious to us. The humans are the prey, the hopeless victims. The demons are the hunters, the cold-blooded killers.

Or so it looks like in theory, because the reality is different.

We cannot help, but feel deep sadness and sorrow for the demons (not for all, but for most of them for sure). They are shown as the ruthless killers, yes, but all of them were humans once, they had their lives, their families, their hopes and dreams that were shattered, because of some bad circumstances. They were shown as Tanjiro's opponents, but never as Tanjiro's enemies, not just because of Tanjiro's kind-hearted nature, but also because of their human past that comes back to them in the moment of them standing on the death's door. It's always emotional, so it makes us feeling torn about the demons, because they suddenly stopped being the greatest evil and we start to see them as human-like beings. Things we should feel sorry for, not hatred for. What's the most interesting is the fact that only we, as the readers can see the demons' past. Tanjiro cannot. But he's so kind and full of compassion, that he forgives the demon and prays for it when it disintegrates into nothingness. He's seen them doing the most gruesome of things, and yes, he feels the anger and fights against them with the need to kill them, but always shows compassion on the end. That's something I deeply admire about his character.

"In this world there is only one demon whose blood flowing in its veins has the power to turn humans into demons." [Urokodaki]

Muzan wasn't the only new character that we got introduced to in this volume. We get to see other teenagers who survived the final selection (we didn't get to know their names, but since I'm an anime fan, I already know) and we get to meet different kind of demons through Tanjiro's missions as a newly chosen demon slayer. His main goal is to find a way to turn Nezuko back into a human, but he's also going around, doing his best to help people who were attacked by the demons. He not always succeeds, though, not fully, and as much as I always wish for a happy ending for everyone, it's not realistic. There will always be tragedies, small and bigger ones, but tragedies nonetheless, because no matter how hard one can try, they cannot save everyone. It's just simply not possible, even in a fictional story.

"I will allow you the glorious death of dying by the hands of the Twelve Demon Moons. Now let's play! Until the night ends! Until your life ends!" [Susumaru]

Vol. 2 ends with an attack of two demons on Tanjiro, Nezuko and their new found allies. The demons were send by Muzan who, after his first meeting with Tanjiro, needs him dead no matter what the cost. Through that attack we've been introduced to the Twelve Demon Moons, known as Muzan's strongest minions. Will Tanjiro and Nezuko be strong enough to defeat this new threat and protect their allies or will they fail? We will see in the next volume! ☺️

I genuinely cannot understand why everyone loves this manga/anime. There were so many issues with it that I started reading it in February and I dragged it on until I forced myself to finish it in May because I couldn’t stand to see it on my currently reading shelf any longer.

Here are the issues I came across:
1. Disorientating action
Lots of running and jumping and wildly swinging swords. It was all over the place, exaggerated and hard to follow.

2. Non-chronological plot
This was a very strange and annoying plot technique where the plot followed one event in the present until there needed to be some background information given so there’d be a random scene taking place in the past shoved into the present scenes. This was extremely disruptive of the flow of the manga and also very confusing because one second Tanjiro would be fighting a demon in a town and the next second he’d be talking to his mentor back on the mountain.

3. Awful dialogue
I’m not sure if we can attribute this issue to the fact that it’s translated, but I’ve read other translated mangas and they didn’t all have this issue.

The dialogue came across as so amateur it was like something I’d written when I was 10 years old. The narrative was also pretty much the same and I just couldn’t stand it. It was like reading a cringy fanfiction not a quality manga that for some reason everyone loves.

Tanjiro’s dialogue was also very repetitive. He constantly said the same things again and again, he was so predictable. He was so exaggerative, it was like you could’ve added three exclamation marks to all of his sentences and it would’ve suited the tone perfectly. Everything was like *gasp* “oh my gosh! Oh wow! I can’t believe it!” and nothing had substance because of that.

This was just awful and I wish I’d never started it. The lesson to be learnt: just because it’s popular doesn’t mean it’s good!

Ah, now I'm starting to see why people love this one.

Our main hero has gained a lot of experience already. We already get a small time skip and our new hero is a lot stronger. On top of that his sister is awake and they begin their adventure to try to bring her back to being a human. The first tale here is kind of sad as we learn these demons are kidnapping young women before they get to old and get "ugly" as they say. The next is the main villain has found out what our Demon Slayer wants and goes for the attack.

A fast paced volume with plenty of great fight scenes. The humor also hits the marks as there's a couple of really funny moments, funny faces, and getting more time with the sister kicking ass was a big bonus. Sometimes the series jumps around a bit too much but besides that it is very enjoyable. I'm digging this series so far. A 4 out of 5.

This did most of the things I hoped it would, so yay!

Also, whoa, I had not realized this is set roughly 100 years ago. The sudden transition from a timeless rural setting equivalent to the "vaguely medieval" world common in western fantasy to urban Tokyo is jarring! (Deliberately so, as we see our tough and calm hero thrown by a new environment.)

It's a thrilling shift from setup to action. While Volume 1 laid the emotional groundwork with Tanjiro’s tragic backstory, this one gets into the heart of the Demon Slayer Corps and the dangers that come with it.

🌟 Highlights/Spoilers
🌼Tanjiro’s Growth: Tanjiro’s first real test during the Final Selection... He faces a grotesque demon using techniques taught by his master, Urokodaki.
🌼Nezuko’s Awakening: Nezuko re-emerges as a powerful and mysterious ally.
🌼Atmosphere & Stakes: The atmosphere intensifies as Tanjiro investigates the disappearance of young girls in a nearby town. This foreshadows darker themes and moral complexity that might come later in the series.

The pacing is brisk and the emotional beats land with precision. And the art style is so beautiful!

I think that the other three contestants in the final selection are the other important characters in the series:)

I LOVED IT!

I'm surprised Demon Slayer is already so fast paced; most of the big confrontations I got to in the anime all happen in this volume, so from here on out everything will be a surprise! I’m still finding the fight scenes a little bit rushed and confusing to follow, but the art style is improving, so I'll probably continue reading. Muzan’s introduction was definitely my favourite part so far; I’m curious to see if he’ll continue to have a big role in the rest of the manga.

Tanjiro, the hero of this story, receives his first mission from the Demon Slayer Corps. Also, he learns who the source of the demons is and confronts this individual. It felt like there was more action in this second volume than the first one since there are no training scenes.

Tanjiro fights the demon who killed his mentors students and that scene was so powerful where you see his compassion even for his enemies and then the thing with Ore and bird selection, getting the sword from Haganezuka happens and that scene is so funny and as he goes on his mission first to defeat this demon who eats girls and then finally some other place where he confronts Muzan but also meets another woman whose a demon doctor but is attacked by Two of the twelve Kizuki and its gonna be an interesting fight.

I like how the manga is slowly introducing the main villain of the series and presenting credible threats in different demons all distinct and posing a challenge to our boy and it gets better with his sword techniques especially the art of him fighting is breath taking!

This one gets more into the nitty gritty rather than the intro and the training.

We're immediately out of the woods and mountains and into a heavily populated district. But here's the kicker: he gets a brief brush-up with the main big bad. We don't see how bad he really is, yet, but passing for human and being able to turn people into demons by a scratch is pretty powerful.

Most interestingly, I love to see his sister shine. It's nice having a sister as a demon. :)

Demon Slayer might be some anime you have watched in Netflix, then you got so curious. Maybe because the animation is so badass you wanted to have more. Maybe the story hooked you badly you wanted more Kimetsu no Yaiba content in your blood. Maybe both.

There is one thing that I really appreciate with the way Koyoharu Gotouge executes the action scenes, and that is something he masterfully shows in this volume. The fights are neither big and grandiose like that in One Piece and Naruto. Demon Slayer fights are intimate and close quarters. These makes the scenes more intense and focused. Some say that Gotouge's style of drawing short statured characters are bothersome, but I think his style actually effectively complements the way the fights are framed, resulting to these closeup, clear panels of pure, in your face action.

I also appreciate the fact that so far, these fights only span for a few chapters. The antagonists never really overstay, always keeping readers on the edge.

Fast-paced and intense, Demon Slayer is gearing up to be one of the great mangas out there.

Now, this was great...

Tanjiro is now apart of the Demon Slayer Corps, and is now being assigned to various missions across Japan trying to stop demons. We also get to learn more about Nezuko and why she is in the state she is. Which was all very interesting, and tugged on the heartstrings a bit.

His first mission is to investigate a town where teenage girls have been mysteriously disappearing. It is then found out that there are demons who are able to pop out of little blood portals. Tanjiro must figure out a way to stop these demons before they kidnap any one else. But what does this have to do with Nezuko? Well, I'm not going to tell you.

Besides the art, the best thing about this book is Tanjiro. I love how caring he is for is sister and how he just wants to help everyone. Anyways, I highly recommend this series.

After succeeding at final selection, Tanjiro has officially become a member of the Demon Slayer Corps and has his first demon encounter. As he continues his journey with his sister, he has found the man responsible for his family’s bloodshed and possibly a way to cure his sister when they meet a doctor and her assistant who turn out to be part-demon themselves. I still can't get over how fast paced this manga is, but I'm enjoying it more and more. Since I already know the story from the anime up to volume 15, this is more of a review or revisiting of plot. I appreciate the pace, otherwise I think I wouldn't have the patience to finish it as I already know what happens up to volume 15.
I like the emphasis on kindness. I like the factor of protection. The combination of strength and kindness, although overused in general in manga and the East, is still beautiful each time I see it manifest in a form of art.
The "returning to human" bit reminds me a lot of FMA.
I like that the author is down to earth, aware of his limitations and consistently working with them and others for this project. It makes me appreciate that not everybody dives through their work confidently and unhinged.
I like the art and I am happy to see it slowly becoming more polished.

Arco: First Mission - Asakusa

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Vol. 2 estuvo bastante bien.

8/10 stars

This inches up to 8 stars mostly because of the evil Michael Jackson ;) But I also love how Gotouge depicts the remnants of human vulnerability in demons, and how Tanjiro's compassion brings the long-faded humanity back to fore at their final moments. The balance between the heartbreaking and the funny is well maintained, and while Tanjiro is a bit of a special snowflake, he's so wonderfully unaware of it that it doesn't bother me that much (at least for now ;)).

Art's still not too good, though ;)

This volume does a great job moving the story forward without rushing the story forward.
Tanjiro Kamado passes the final selection for the Demon Slayer Corps, is allowed to pick the metal to forge his demon killing sword and heads back to his sister and mentor. He's immediately given his first assignment and is sent to help a village where girls a mysteriously disappearing. He's stronger and more adept in this volume, but doesn't feel polished yet. We meet the demon that killed his family and turned his sister and the stakes became very real. The ending of this volume does a great job hooking you for the next, while giving you enough to feel like you've reached the end of a chapter.

I personally love a fast-paced story but because of that, especially this manga , one volume ends too quickly. Way too quickly... noooo
Wish it would be longer tho but anyway, love it. Absolutely enjoyable.
