Awesome adventures inspired by the best-selling new Pokémon Sun & Moon video games set in the tropical Alola Region!
Sun dreams of money. Moon dreams of scientific discoveries. When their paths cross with Team Skull, both their plans go awry…
Although Sun and Moon didn’t plan to participate in the Full Power Tournament to win the island challenge amulet, both of them end up competing…for different reasons. Trouble arises when the leader of Team Skull, Guzma, signs up to punish Sun for defeating some of his grunts before the competition even starts…!
This was hard for me because it was mostly the Pokémon tournament and therefore action heavy and I find Pokémon battles deeply confusing so I spent pages absorbing nothing and hoping for the dialogue to fill me in. But I think the next one will have more wandering about in the world which I’m better at reading.
Wow, I really enjoyed the 2nd volume in this series!! I love the new / original story and love the Alolan Pokemon & Alolan Region Arc & definitely was a great & fun read, definitely recommend if you love Pokemon & especially if you have played the Sun & Moon 3DS games like me! Looking forward to reading volume 3 to see what happens next! 😊💖💖
This (mini) volume of Sun and Moon has us at the Full power tournament! Sun and Moon each get roped into competing, in addition we have Gladion, Hau, Masked Royal, and a Team Skull Grunt. Highlights -Moon and Gladion's fight is my favorite, as it involves Moon gushing over the cute Poison Pokemon(One of which is Alolan Grimer) and her trying to connect with Gladion over a 'love of science'. It shows off Moon's specialty more, and foreshadows more about the Ultra Beasts, and the tears in space. -Sun fights Masked Royal rather unmotivated, until he pesters Royal enough to get a glimpse of the important Island Challenge Band, and gets ready to fight. Speaking of, how Sun and Masked Royal start just grabbing at each other in the middle of the fight is hilarious. And also Kukui is very bad at hiding his identity still - Guzma is brutal, as usual. He slams his grunt in order to have plausible deniability to replace him, and fights Sun. Sun ends up winning with some trickery, and Cent showing brutality when it gets dirty, and Guzma goes mildly insane, slamming his head against the ground, which is pretty surprising.
-Finally, Sun fights Gladion, whom demeans Sun's motivations, which gets Sun annoyed, and in a fighting mood. He ends up doing a Z-move, sorta. Sun wins the tournament, and wakes up on a boat, ending the chapter Overall- Fun fights, showing more of the characters, and teasing some future story beats. Pretty fun, can't wait to see where it goes from here
Do you enjoy the Pokémon video games? Have you read the previous manga book titled Pokémon: Sun and Moon, Vol. 1? If so, then this second book in the Sun and Moon series is perfect for you! This book written by Hidenori Kusaka and illustrated by Satoshi Yamamoto is the second installment to this fantasy manga series and expands the Sun and Moon story, making it even more fun and interesting to read. In this second installment, Sun and Moon visit Professor Kukui after being attacked by the mythical Pokémon, Tapu Koko. After being told this, many of the authorities stated that had started to notice that the guardians have been distressed and angry at the people of Alola. To please the island guardians, the authorities throw a Festival Tournament and the winner receives an island challenge amulet. Sun and Moon join the Festival, but the festival is interrupted by some familiar faces; Team Skull! I give this book four out of five stars. It’s not perfect, but I think it was more enjoyable than the previous book. I really think the introduction to the festival was a nice touch, but then the addition of Team Skull and their leader Guzma made it even more enjoyable. You not only learn more about Team Skull, but you are also introduced to some new, mysterious faces and Pokémon. So overall, I very much recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Pokémon or people who read the previous book!
Lots of new characters get introduced in this volume and a lot of action is happening in the Alola region with the tournament. Also when I got to the "Poison Girl" part, I laughed out loud. They are building up a very nice world here. You didn't need to play Sun or Moon to know what's going on, as the story is easy to follow along. But you should be reading this in order like with any Manga that's not a one off story. I'm really loving the character Moon and Sun is a fun dude with surprises up his sleeve. A high recommendation. I'm excited for Volume 3.
Very enjoyable! I wasn't expecting Moon to favor poison types, but it makes total sense for her character. I love her even more because of how passionate she is about them. And everyone's reactions to her saying poison types are cute was hilarious! I'm honestly surprised Sun won the tournament, 😐 but he is one of the main characters so... I'm also kind of curious to find out what Gladion's goal is. Can't wait to read Vol. 3!
Demetrius loves the tapus! We loved reading this book together. We laughed out loud at many parts of this book. I love being able to share Manga with him.
The Team Skull grunt is literally named Team Skull Grunt A for the tournament!! That's freaking hilarious!
But but but: grilled Slowpoke tail!? Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat!? They're eating pokemon!? Y'all, they're practically sentient beings. Don't eat them. Everyone in the poke-world are vegetarians. That's just science. And I won't believe anything else.
Update: My son has informed me that they mention cutting slowpoke tails in Gold and Silver, but I don't remember that, so my righteous indignation stands.
Prof. Kukui in his costume! Ha!
But Hau's a little one note, yes?
We get to meet Lillie and Nebby, and Samson Oak, and Prof. Burnet and her so sweet fan-girling over the The Masked Royal.
I just love Moon and her courageous spirit, and Sun is still calling her Ms. Customer Package which is just too funny.
And emo-boy Gladion is just perfect.
This volume had so many funny and exciting moments with the tournament and
