Jump inside the Millennium Falcon and help Han and Chewie as they journey across the galaxy on a simple smuggling job. But nothing is ever simple with Han Solo, and when things go wrong, Han pretends to be Jabba the Hutt to save himself, Chewie, and the Millennium Falcon. And that's when things go from bad to worse! With over twenty possible outcomes, readers will have to think like a true smuggler to keep Han and Chewie safe from Imperial TIE fighters, Mandalorian mercenaries, and so much more! With so many different story paths, the adventures never end!

Cavan's contribution to the era is a comic book series released through Marvel Comics titled Star Wars: The High Republic.
Nice and simple. Has a right path and a wrong path. The right path has a few alt side roads that tye back in, but all the other paths dead end really quickly. They have one early alt choice that gets some good distance, but it's still about a 6th the content of the "right path".
Overall, pretty good for the type of literature it is. My compliments to Cavan Scott for yet another excellent book.
This was such a fun book! It took me bqck to my childhood and summers spent on choose your own adventer books. Cavan and Elsa have a lot of Star Wars experience so this book is quite the fun adventure. This book is set in the same time period of the Solo movie and revolves around Han & Chewbacca trying to finish ajob for Jabba the Hutt. The typical Solo luck comed into play and soon Han is trying to svoid Imperial blockades and criminals on a Jungle planet. It took me awhile to complete the mission successfully but I had tons of fun !
A smuggling job has its share of dangers for Han Solo and Chewbacca. However, this time, the reader is in a position to help them out by making difficult choices for them.
Scott's "Choose Your Destiny" books are very fun, fiendishly difficult and work really well on a Kindle.
This gamebook took only about 2 hours to work through. Basically, if you play as if you were Han Solo from the movies, you'll move along pretty quickly to the proper ending. I went back and read some of the dead ends just to see how Han and Chewie could fail and being a kid's book, it's never gruesome.
Choose your own adventure books were fun as a kid. Now I get to read them to my girls. Overall fun even though we got captured by the empire 13 times lol 😆
So-so. I mean, for the age group it's aimed at, it's reasonable fare. The writing is decent, the plot straightforward and there's some nice moral choices at the end.
As a gamebook, it's interesting. The start is very binary - either choose the right path or meet an untimely 'end', whereby 'end' they mean you're not dead or anything, it's just they don't want to continue the story down that path - eg Han and Chewie are captured and will eventually escape, but that's another story. Go back and pick the 'right' path.
Later on, the paths get just slightly more..., I hesitate to use the word complicated. Let's just say they're not simple but only barely so. And finally at the end there's a moral choice which is fairly easy to get 'right' and even gives you multiple opportunities to get it right. It's very appropriate.
Oh and one other thing, in some cases, the choices are along the lines of "Han tries to do X. Does it work (turn to page x) or not (turn to page y)". Which are kind of odd choices.
I'm a sucker for gamebooks so I'll read anything because of my interest in the mechanics. Otherwise, the story was very forgettable.
My trek through reading all the Star Wars canon material has led me to another first. I had never read a "choose your own adventure" book. I think these became popular just as I aged out of the demographic. Funny, that now as 50-something year old man I finally end up reading one.
I will say i did not like the experience. I feel short-changed, if that makes sense. I want to read a story and get wrapped up in what the author wants me to get wrapped up. Every time you get to the end of the page, you are immediately taken out of the experience, because you have to make a decision. Not my cup of tea.
****Mild Spoilers Ahead****
As for the writing and the book itself? It's very fun. I LOVE Cavan Scott, so it should come as no surprise that I enjoyed this and read it without putting it down. It's cool to have the story of why exactly Jabba had a bounty on Han Solo's head. This took care of that nicely. Is it essential? Probably not. I wouldn't be upset if we got new canon material (maybe a mini series comic?) that re-wrote this adventure, but as it stands, it's a pretty cool story.
I've never read a book where you pick the move at the end of the situation. This being my first one, I wasn't sure what to expect. It does warn you not to read the book linearly. The reason behind that is you would be totally confused reading this book that way. You read the chapter all the way through and at the end, it will give you two choices to continue the story. You then go to the page it states to continue on. Eventually you'll get to the "end". If not, you'll keep making choices never knowing where you'll end up. I was excited to read this book. I'd probably still be going like the Energizer Bunny if I hadn't decided to stop. I think I'll be going back & try it from the very beginning again.
In addition to being a fun Star Wars story (or, I suppose, stories), this was a well-crafted Choose Your Own Adventure novel. It wasn't immediately obvious which choices were the best ones, and I had to read it several times to get to a successful conclusion. Even so, I feel like I can still read it several more times, because there were several other paths I never explored. The illustrations are fantastic as well. Very enjoyable!
Even though only two books survived (and are now in my daughter's care), I remember countless hours devoted to the "Choose your adventure" books, whether it was a sci-fi story, dinosaurs, pirates, they were all good. Should I had one Star Wars adventure of the kind, it would've made me enormously happy as a kid!
So, when they announced one based on Han and Chewie, I was ecstatic! Written by Cavan Scott and illustrated by Elsa Charretier; this one shows the pair trying to escape an Imperial blockade. You must guide Han taking (mostly bad) choices in order to achieve the only result where they escape, if not unscathed. Adventure, tension, Wookiee roars, this one has it all!
If you loved these kind of books in your youth, this one really delivers!
Definitely worth reading, i explored most of the options in about an hour. Very fun and enjoyable book and the right way was never obvious.
Surprisingly, if i were Han, i wouldn’t make it alive. Had to return back around 5 times because i made a bad decision, and around 8 times i just wanted to explore both options.
I enjoyed the book and I thought it was clever to keep children entertain but the reason why I didn't rate it 5 stars is because it sends you all around the place and it is hard to keep track of. But over all its pretty good another addition to the star wars universe and if there was similar books like this one I would keep on exploring the Galaxy far far away.
It's about time that choose-your-own-adventure stories made a comeback. This was cute and nostalgic and a great choice for younger readers (or older readers who need a bit of a giggle at the end of a long day).
This was a lot harder than what I though and I fucked up Han and Chewie like 3 times before I actually helped them. Overall it's fun, but the story becomes a bit irrelevant by the 4th time you're trying to find the right way to go.
This was an exciting format of book. It was fun hunting around the books for the next step in the journey. I found the writing to be good. This would be an excellent way for getting kids invested in reading.
A fun little adventure that will be enjoyed by fans of choose your adventure books. I do wish these Star Wars versions had more endings/choices. One cool thing is that there is a canon/official ending, and it is fun to attempt to reach that ending on your first try.
This was fun to read with my daughter. She loves Chewbacca and this was a good story focused on he and Han before falling out of grace with Jabba the Hutt. I found the choices to reward good behaviors, which didn't quite feel right for the scoundrel Han but as intended for its audience was understandable and time well spent reading together.
This took us 5 minutes to read (/fail) I'd love it if it was longer and wasn't so "Do you want to lie or kill?" I mean, I know that's what he does, but it's also a kid book so it could have gone a little lighter on that..
This little adventure took me back to elementary school days. I have not read a choose your own adventure since then. I read through several different outcomes and it was pretty fun, but largely you could skip this one unless you're just a completionist.
Not always the biggest fans of Choose Your Own Adventure style books. I just want to know the path that gets me to the end the right way. If you choose the wrong path, you'll know within a page or two typically so it's not like there are multiple, lengthy plot threads that can take place.
Fun book learning Han and Chewie into A New Hope. My son has really gotten into the choice nature of the book, and makes the repeat readings much more fun.
