Magic Trixie Sleeps Over

Rate this book
She's smart. She's sassy. She has magic powers. And she's not going to bed!

Magic Trixie's had enough of her parents insisting she brush her teeth, take a bath, and go to bed on time. Especially since NO ONE else in her class has to put up with that nonsense.

So Magic Trixie's leaving! Instead of letting her family BOSS HER AROUND, she'll stay over at each of her friends' houses and see what other young monsters do when the sun goes down.

Will Magic Trixie ever find the PERFECT nighttime haunt?

Okay, everyone in my house likes Magic Trixie, so in honor of them I bump this from a 3 to a 4. Trixie doesn't want to brush her teeth, take a bath, go to sleep, so she refuses and her cool witch parents allow her to sleep at her friends' houses--werewolves, vampires, etc where she actually realizes they have it worse. So… there's no place like home, and she invites them all for a sleepover, chaos, fun. Thompson's artwork and energy is right for this age.

Magic Trixie - that mischievous little witch whose adventures began in the eponymous first volume of Jill Thompson's graphic novel series for younger readers, Magic Trixie - returns in this second volume, once again discontented at home. The trouble, this time around, is her parents' insistence that she bathe and brush her teeth, before bedtime each night. Convinced that none of her friends have to put up with anything similar, Trixie (together with her cat Scratches) sleeps over at their houses, one after the other, and discovers what the night is like for werewolves (Loupie Garou), mummies (Princess Nefi), Frankenstein-type monsters (Stitch Patch), and vampires (the twins).

Trixie's conclusion, that she misses her own night-time rituals, and the loving care given to her by her own parents, is not wholly unexpected, but is quite satisfying to see, all the same. The story is entertaining, with plenty of high energy antics to suit its heroine (and readers!), and full-color artwork to add to the fun. Trixie's family is really quite cool, in a contemporary, witchy way - I appreciated both her mom and dad, and the way they let her make her own discoveries - and her friends are suitably monstrous. All in all, an entertaining installment of the series - I look forward to reading the third, Magic Trixie and the Dragon !

Okay, Magic Trixie is my new favorite kids' graphic novel series. Or, since I didn't have a first favorite, I guess this is that, too! Trixie is fun and totally identifiable. Her friends are wacky. The art is colorful. You wish you went to Trixie's school. (Well, maybe not at lunch time.) I loved this escapade, where Trixie, tired of the forced bedtime routine at her house, spends the night at each of her friends' house in turn. Astute readers will figure out why her parents keep saying okay to the sleepovers. Great for kids, but fun for all!

The second of Jill Thompson's "Magic Trixie" comics, Thompson delights the reader with more amazing artwork in every panel on every page. The sleepover with Nifi in the land of mummies is a personal favorite, inventive!

When Magic Trixie is fed up with her bedtime regime, she looks to her classmates and friends for sleep overs. Bedtime with werewolves, mummies, and vampires prove to be monster-ously different from her own, however, the adventures unfold!

There were parts in this cute little book that made me laugh out loud, and my niece said that she liked this book, too. Once again we enjoyed the bright, fun, colorful drawings that were full of entertaining details, and it was great fun to spend some time with Trixie's monster friends.

Magic Trixie is mad that she has to brush her teeth and get ready for bed. None of her other friends have to do those things! She says she's going to leave to stay with Loupie Garou, and... mom and dad are okay with it? Turns out that werewolf families roughhouse a lot, and what's bedtime for Trixie is the beginning of the evening for Loupie's clan! Over the following nights, her sleepovers with mummy, frankenstein, and vampire friends show Trixie that while there are things that her friends don't have to do, there are things they do overnight that she finds completely crazy! Would she be better off back home?

Magic Trixie is so much like my own daughter it hurts. The whining, the messes, the "I know how to do this," the jealousy over family or friends who get to do things differently. Seeing Magic Trixie decide that maybe she doesn't want her brain taken out, or her sarcophagus sealed up, or to need to dig into the dirt in a graveyard to make a bed is just adorable, and wickedly funny at the same time. Sassy, sarcastic, and bitingly honest.

This is the second book in the Magic Trixie series by Jill Thompson. We enjoyed the first book and our oldest was excited to see that there were more books featuring Trixie.

The story offers an irreverent take on a preteen witch's nighttime routine and her first sleepovers, filled with magic and monster friends. Perfect for the preteen set, this book depicts Trixie in common everyday settings, eating meals with her family, getting to school, doing chores, but all with a magical twist. The illustrations are colorful and detailed and the dialogue is fairly sparse, allowing the pictures to tell much of the story.

Our oldest read this very quickly and really enjoyed it. I enjoy reading the same books they do and thought it was a fun, fast read, too.

This is a silly comic about a witch who doesn't want to take a bath or brush her teeth at night before bed. She complains to her friends (a mummy, a werewolf and a vampire) and they each invite her to spend the night at their homes. After seeing how differently each family behaves Trixie decides that brushing her teeth and taking a bath isn't so bad after all.

This book is not terrible but it's not good either. 7 or 8 year olds who don't like getting ready for bed might like it. I wouldn't recommend this book to any child older than that.

Another fun Trixie book--this one is about bedtime routines; Trixie never wants to take a bath and brush her teeth and thinks it'll be great when she spends the night at her friends' house in order to not have to do those things. Well, nighttime routines with a werewolf, mummy princess, a boy frankenstein, and vampire twins aren't quite what Trixie expected. Maybe things aren't so bad at her house after all.

The second volume in a children’s graphic novel/comic series about a young witch and her delightful family and friends. A great recommendation from a coworker which I feel obligated to pass on. All three were great, but the second one was by far my favorite … who doesn’t love a spooky sleepover?

Are you a kid who is also a witch? No? Well, Trixie is! In this second book in the series, Trixie is tired of taking her bedtime bath, brushing her teeth, and going to sleep. She thinks it would be more fun to sleep at her friends' houses, and her parents say yes! Find out how Trixie likes everyone else's bedtime routines. And if you like this book, try the others in the series.

Equally as fantastic as the first, with a look at the different bedtime routines of the other kids in Trixie's class, including werewolves, vampires, a mummy and Frankenstein.

The art is astounding and fun, the panels great to look at.

This series is definitely a little sharper than most - I am 99% sure Tixie's family are all hipsters, and the humor can be both silly and prickly. A fun read about how other people's families do different things, and that's okay.

Not too horrible, and two of the characters are named after two of our pets (Trixie & Rufus).

I like the art, and the family is cute. There is a lesson in the story, which I generally find slightly annoying. But it's for kids, and mine loved it.
