Easy pizza. Fish-in-a-bag. Cajun spiced eggs. French apple tarts. If you think this doesn't sound like diet food, then think again. Recipes include Southern-style chicken; One-layer lasagne; Chicken tikka masala; Lamb doner kebab; Beef stroganoff; Sweet potato and black bean burritos; Sticky pork chops; and Baked doughnuts with sweet five-spice dust.As Tom 'It's impossible to stick to a diet if the food you're expected to eat is boring and doesn't fill you up. So I've developed lots of tasty and satisfying recipes that people will love to cook and eat, but that will also help them lose weight. I truly believe that this attitude works. I've been there myself and now I want to help others get there too.' By adopting a new, healthy approach to eating you really CAN lose weight for good.
Pretty average cookbook, in my opinion; there are a few nice recipes but nothing spectacular. This book does seem to assume lots of time to cook and space for complex cooking equipment. Overall, not my kind of recipe book.
It might seem a little weird to add a cookery book to "favourites" and "would read again" but this is for sure one of my favorite books to DATE. I got this on the first of February, and I haven't cooked anything else but stuff from this book. The recipes are fully delicious, and really spice up cooking. With a full vegetarian section, and even low calorie, but not restricted desserts, this is a life saviour for sure. It's hard to find low calorie diet books that cater to vegetarian diets as well, and then this book came along. I fully recommend this for everyone, meat eaters, vegetarians, vegans, people trying to lose weight, and those that just want to expand their palette. Never before have I come across such an amazing book, I highly recommend this.
Not quite what i expected, in a disappointed way, from this book
I like Tom and his usually unpretentious recipes, we watched the accompanying TV programme and bought the book, as, for health reasons, I need some food with flavour, as chemotherapy has numbed mine, but agave and yuzo! More ingredients bought just to use cupboard space, for minimal extra calories why not use good organic honey, will try the recipes just to fool friends, glad its only on my kindle.
Acquired this earlier in the year to lose some weight and having enjoyed the accompanying tv series. It's been on my cookery book stand permanently since then in the kitchen and we cook from it most days of the week. Yes it requires some stocking up of the store cupboard but once done the recipes are a breeze. (This from a moderately experienced cook who enjoys the process of cooking and has the luxury of working from home so more time then most to devote to it)
Really like the recipes in this book. Tried one last night and it was yummy. Total calories for each recipe are included. Would have been useful to have carbohydrates listed for people with diabetes though. Hence 4/5 stars.
Loved the tv series not just because l could do with losing a few pounds but Tom is my favourite tv chef. I’ve picked up so many new ideas to give my family a heathy diet. I’m sure this book will be used regularly for many years to come. Thank you Tom.
Good, flavourful recipes. Mostly clear instructions. If you’re deciding between this and Jamie Oliver’s 15 minute meals, this is better. By the third night of cooking from this book (from the library), we decided to buy a copy for ourselves.
Pretty good, straightforward recipes. I personally won't be using Elmlea at any point, but I welcome any ideas for higher protein, lower-calorie, higher vegetable-containing meals.
This book has loads of nice sounding receipes in, but I think it's written by a chef who has lost touch with 'normal' people who have busy lives, limited time to cook and who shop in Tesco and don't have access to half the ingredients listed. Oh you'll also need a seemingly endless supply of 'skinless chicken crowns pre-poached in 500ml fresh chicken stock and 500ml water' along with the odd blow torch, not to mention a spiralizer! Needless to say I returned this book and bought a useful one.
