New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Jana DeLeon was raised in southwest Louisiana among the bayous and gators. Her hometown is Carlyss, but you probably won't find it on a map. Her family owned a camp located on a bayou just off the Gulf of Mexico that you could only get there by boat. The most important feature was the rope hammock hanging in the shade on a huge deck that stretched out over the water where Jana spent many hours reading books.

Jana and her brother spent thousands of hours combing the bayous in a flat-bottom aluminum boat, studying the natural habitat of many birds, nutria and alligators. She would like you to know that no animals were injured during these "studies," but they kept makers of peroxide in business.

Jana has never stumbled across a mystery or a ghost like her heroines, but she's still hopeful.

She now resides in Dallas, Texas, with the most spoiled Sheltie in the world.

Hook, Line and Blinker by Jana Deleon is the 10th book in the Miss Fortune Mystery series. When some-one tries to kill Hot Rod and steals his black SUVs, he tries to warn Ida Belle that she is in danger, and the team once again become involved in the mystery. It is always fun to catch up with Sinful especially with the good news that Celia has lost the mayoral election. Very entertaining with lots of laughs along the way.

Love the mystery and Big & Little ~ aka my favorite mobsters. Not a fan of the tension with Carter but I suppose it is going somewhere. Conclusion was confusing but nothing a little exposition didn't clear up.
The real question is...WHY DOESN'T MY LIBRARY HAVE THE NEXT TWO BOOKS IN THE SERIES? I might just have to buy them.

In case you haven't read any of this series, Miss Fortune is a CIA assassin with a bad guy after her so she's incognito in Sinful, Louisiana until things die down. Only 3 people know her real identity there-- Deputy LeBlanc (who she's dating) and 2 older ladies who were once spies, Gertie and Ida Belle. In this adventure, their friend Hot Rod is attacked in his shop and Ida Belle is in danger because an SUV she bought from him may have evidence hidden in it. So where else could they hide the SUV except in a storage facility owned by the local mob. See how that turns out.

I love this series! The scenes in it are ridiculously funny. I like the break from reading dark mysteries and thrillers to laugh out loud at the ladies antics. I have no idea how the author thinks up so many hilarious adventures.

Laughing the way

What a wonderful way to spend some time. Visiting with Gertie, Ida Bell, and Fortune was a laugh fest. I could just imagine these ladies doing these crazy antics. It would make a great movie or better yet a tv series.

I am looking forward to more adventures.

When Ida Belle got that supped up, black, turbo powered Blazer in Later Gator, I just knew nothing good was going to come of that. What is hidden in Ida Belle's new love and who wants it bad enough to kill? Well, what can I say? Fortune, Ida Belle and Gertie are up to their eyebrows in it, again. Carter just knows that the three of them are in it, again, but just can't prove it. I kinda think he really doesn't want to bust them anyway. Fun read and a mystery to solve.

This is book 10 in the Miss Fortune Mystery series.

This was another action-packed book. So good!

And the ending was a bit of a cliffhanger. The mystery was solved. But the book ends with me desperately wanting to see what happens next with the info that Fortune received.

The tenth book in the Miss Fortune Mystery series by Jana Deleon. The recount is in and the rightful Mayor of Sinful takes her place. And Hot Shot, a local mechanic, is assaulted and in critical condition at the hospital. But he manages to get a few words out warning that Ida Belle is in danger. So naturally, Fortune and Gertie, along with Ida Belle, must find out why.

Love this series! But I do have to admit it's getting a bit long for my taste. I see that there is at least one more book coming in the series and that's great. I do highly recommend this series to those who love quirky characters and a lot of laughs.

I am so hooked. Each book drawer you deeper into the Louisiana bayou and Sinful and of course deeper into the lives of Fortune, Ida Belle and Gertie. I'm always wonderful how Jana DeLeon is going to make me laugh out loud again with the antics and somehow setting cow manure on fire and Celia up to her no good ways did the trick.

I love this series and will continue to savor each book, much like a fine glass of sweet tea.

Oh and did you know there is a website for Sinful- you have to check it out, what a hoot.

Hook, Line, and Blinker is book 10 in the Miss Fortune Mystery series. This series is set in Sinful, Louisiana, USA and follows Fortune, who is a CIA assassin in hiding, and old ladies Gertie and Ida Belle, who are lifelong Sinful residents and ex-spy war veterans, as they help solve a string of various crimes and murders.

I stumbled across these books when I decided to check out a new-to-me genre called Cozy Mysteries and someone recommended this series. Once I listened to the first book, I couldn't stop. I have been listening to all of the books back to back.

In Hook, Line, and Blinker, someone is stealing black SUVs, much like the new SUV that Ida Belle recently purchased from Hot Rod. When Hot Rod is found with his head bashed in and ranting about Ida Belle being in danger before falling into a coma, Swamp Team 3 knows they need to jump into action to solve this before Ida Belle is hurt or killed. In this book, the ladies team up with Big and Little Hebert again. I have quickly grown to love those mob men and their head bodyguard. There were a few twists in this book and the ending even surprised me.

I recommend this series and suggest reading each book in order since each book builds upon the prior book's story and it makes everything that much more entertaining and enjoyable. If you like books with a big dose of humor, this is the series for you. I have found myself laughing out loud too many times to count.

The same narrator reads for the whole series. She does a good job and I really like the fact that the character voices are consistent from book to book.

A fun addition to the series

3.5 stars. I just love this series. There is a lot of intrigue, with twists and turns. This trio is a hoot. Favorite part....
Deputy Breaux leaned forward more and took a harder look at Gertie. “Why are you wearing a sheet?” Gertie froze and I still hadn’t come up with anything reasonable. Thank God Ida Belle was thinking for all of us. “Toga party,” Ida Belle said. He frowned. “Why aren’t the rest of you wearing sheets?” “Mine were in the laundry,” I said. “And I don’t take part in such nonsense,” Ida Belle said. “I was just there for the free beer.”

Usually this series is good for a few laughs, this book lacked those laughs and was only good for a chuckle at the old poop on fire gag. This was also a little too predictable with the bad guys being new characters not previously mentioned in any of the earlier books. Big and Little were the saving grace with this book and provided almost all of the entertainment.

Miss Fortune Mystery: 10
Four days after the last adventure, and Fortune has been in Sinful for a whole two crazy months. The mayoral audit has finally been completed, and Celia is finally ousted. This book starts off with a nice recap of all the highlights of what's happened since the first book. In this latest adventure, the man who upgraded Ida Belle's new SUV from the last book is viciously attacked. The last thing Hot Rod says before falling unconscious due to his injuries appears to be a warning to Ida Belle. Once again, Fortune, Ida Belle, and Gertie get into various hilarious and unlikely predicaments investigating and trying to avoid the wrath of Carter. Once again, this puts a dent in the relationship department, and Fortune takes a hard look at what she's willing to compromise to be with him. As with all the books in the series, this one is better enjoyed with a good suspension of disbelief. Ends on a teaser, so will definitely be reading the next one.

Jana Deleon's newest, much-anticipated Miss Fortune novel, Hook, Line, and Blinker, is a strong addition to the whole, delightful series. Fortune, a CIA agent in hiding in Sinful, Louisiana, has had a couple quiet weeks when the Sinful grapevine, which is tied directly into Ida Belle, lets the senior lady who is the true controlling force of everything in Sinful that her friend Hot Rod has been nearly fatally attacked, and the only thing he managed to say as he was taken to the hospital was that Ida Belle is in danger. Hot Rod is known for fixing up vehicles to give them lots of power and fancy details, and Ida Belle recently bought a hugely souped-up SUV from Hot Rod.

Hook, Line and Blinker by Jana Deleon was a first rate mystery with enough laugh-out-loud moments to keep me entertained from beginning to end. As usual, Gertie creates chaos as Swamp Team 3 joins up with Big and Little Hebert to solve a mystery that has put Ida Belle's new love, a black 4X4, into jeopardy. And the cliff-hanger at the end makes me impatient to read the next one.

A lot happening in this story, not all of it good. Just enough bad to get Fortune, Gertie and Ida Belle deciding they need to solve the crime(s). Get the local mafia involved and what you have is pure chaos again. So outlandish that you can't help but smile or laugh out loud. Love this series!

A bit more suspenseful, even with Gerties stumbling. Black SUVs are being stolen just as two brothers have been released from prison for doing much the same along with dealing drugs. But why pinpoint just black SUVs?

Our trio hook back up with the local mobsters to get answers. this one was a tad more far-fetched than previous ones, but then isn’t that the intent?

This is the 10th book in the Miss Fortune Mystery series and the question regarding Fortune and Carter’s relationship of will they or won’t they is finally answered. They did, and they continue to. We know they are now sleeping together because Fortune tells us so and the other characters often allude to their sleepovers. We know that Fortune enjoys them and that she thinks Carter looks good without any clothes on. We also know that despite how much she enjoys their cuddle time, she has no interest in living together because she needs her space. This isn’t a contemporary romance so that is as descriptive as Deleone gets with their love life. The only remaining and rather large relationship question between these two is can Carter accept Fortune for who she is and the fact that even if she’s no longer with the CIA her choices will often put her in harm’s way? He’s hardly off to a stellar start in this book when he decides not to reveal to Ida Belle that her life is in danger because he doesn’t want the girls (can you call two senior citizen women and an almost 30 year old woman girls and not get into trouble?) to get involved. Even though Fortune, Ida Belle and Gertie have already discovered this fact and why, Fortune is rightfully pissed that Carter would keep this information from them.
If you’re not familiar with this series, the 10th book while it can be read as a standalone probably isn’t the best place to start. I will say that this is at its’ worst a PG series. No graphic sex or violence. You can see and hear worse on prime time television. Although the bad guys are often shot between the eyes. The language is also PG with nothing worse than the occasional shit uttered. What these stories are is often hysterically funny, a bit romantic, emotionally warm with the growing relationships between Fortune and the people closest to her as she discovers what it’s like to have real friends for the first time in her life even if the ones closest to her are old enough to be her grandmother. In this book Fortune moves closer to accepting the idea that once Ahmad the international weapons dealer who put a price on her head is eliminated and she can officially quit the CIA she will become a P.I. She’s not quite sure how that decision would impact her relationship with Carter. In the process of giving Fortune some rare relationship advice Ida Belle is forced to reveal why she never accepted one of Walter’s many marriage proposals and reveals just how much she cares for him. Gertie is the comic relief of the team and she doesn’t fail to deliver in this story on several occasions.

ANOTHER WINNER!!

The latest installment in the Miss Fortune Mystery Series is another winner! It's such delightful entertainment from beginning to end. The girls - Fortune, Ida Belle & Gertie - are doing their best to keep the streets of Sinful, LA safe from crime. For a sleepy little small town, Crime has managed a uptick since Fortune has come to town. That fact alone just complicates her relationship with Carter LaBlanc the Law in the town. This book finds the girls in more dire straits than usual and we learn what lengths they are willing to go to protect each other and who they are willing to work with to accomplish their goals. Great entertainment!

Fortune is thinking of what she will do when she leaves the CIA, after she is out of danger, but things get complicated when one of Ida Belle's friends get hurt, and they are trying to warn her of danger.

This was another hilarious addition to this series, and I loved how Fortune is thinking of leaving the CIA, and what her job will be in Sinful.

The only blemish is Carter and Fortune seem to be having some issues that may end up breaking them or making them. I'm not sure which way the cards will fall, but I'm looking forward to finding out.

I typically love the combination of Fortune, Gertie and Ida. This book just felt like a regression in so many ways.

I thought Fortune and Carter were finally on solid ground, but here we go with all the uncertainty about their relationship.

So much more of the same, with Celia and the bumbling ways.

It was easy to suspect the culprits because they were the only new characters introduced in the book too.

Overall I wish we had something new.

2020 bk 98. Ida Belle's new black SUV came with some enhancements in the speed department courtesy of local mechanic Hot Rod. When Hot Rod is beaten and left for dead during the theft of two SUV's in the wings, Ida Belle, Fortune, Gertie, and Deputy Carter are left searching for clues. It takes the help of the Herbert Brothers (who have cars of their own altered by Hot Rod) to track down 'who dunit' in the rollicking fun read.

I am a HUGE fan of Jana Deleon and the Miss Fortune series but this one just wasn't up to par for me. The books are starting to seem like they fit a formula, which wouldn't be bad if the humour was there, which it wasn't in this one. If the next one is the same as this one, it may be time for me to say goodbye to the Miss Fortune series.

This is a favorite series when it became apparent this was just a filler book, it did not advance the series, it didn't make me laugh. When I got to the last page I sat wondering when the story would begin.

Disappointed

I had to make myself finish the book. All the wonderful sexual tension between Carter and Fortune was gone and replaced with a bad soap opera. I'm afraid the Fortune series has run its course.
