A million reasons to go home. One hot reason to stay. From New York Times bestselling author Elle Casey comes the second book in the sexy Red Hot Love Series.
Emerald Collins is nothing like her strong-willed sister Amber. When she found out her father was a member of the legendary rock group Red Hot, sensitive Em was determined to carry on as normal—she had no interest in finding out more about her dad or leaving her quiet sanctuary in Maine.
But while visiting Amber in New York, Em meets Sam, a tortured, sexy, and utterly unsuitable musician. Sam and Em are used to life behind the scenes but their undeniable attraction is about to put them right in the spotlight.
When Sam reveals a shocking secret about his past, Emerald has to make a choice. Will she follow her head and return home or is the magnetism between them and the excitement of the big city enough for her to follow her heart?

This second book in the Red Hot Love series focuses on Emerald. Out of the three sisters she is the more creative of them but also quite introverted. She doesn’t really like stepping out of her comfort zone and loves her life on the farm in Maine.
When Amber asks Emerald to come and stay with her while Ty is on tour in Japan she is initially reluctant but caves into the pressure from her sister. They really do need some quality time together after the past few months of a new and disruptive family dynamic changed things for them all.
Emerald is still very distrusting of the Red Hot guys and has no interest in meeting with them, let alone talking to them. She thinks Amber is looking at them through bedazzled glasses and can’t see them for who they really are. The men that abandoned their mothers and their daughters.
Emerald’s first time in New York is a bit over whelming and it becomes even more interesting when Sam, Ty’s brother, arrives to stay with them as well. But wait there is more…. When there is a huge issue in Japan, Amber has to leave them to their own devices. This was not the special sister time that Emerald was expecting but she takes it all in her stride.
Sam is a bit of a puzzle that Emerald finds herself wanting to solve. She knows that there are issues that he is working through with his brother but he seems to have the weight of the world on his shoulders. The more time they spend together they realise they have a lot in common. The find themselves sharing their deepest secrets and fears with each other. This really cute friendship between them evolves and something is building between them. It happens slowly and organically but it is definitely there.
‘I’m having a hard time keeping my hands off him. He is so beautiful, and his sadness acts like a magnet drawing me in. I don’t want him to suffer this way. I want him to feel the joy in life again.’
When Sam’s personal life gets incredibly intense, Emerald is the one that is there for him and it really is a beautiful thing. She is very aware that her time with Sam is limited as they have very different lives. He is working with Red Hot and has responsibilites he can’t ignore and she knows that a life living in a city will never be one she could be happy with. The only thing she does know is that she doesn’t want to say goodbye to Sam.
I am really enjoying this series, I love all the quirky things that Emerald says to Sam, like she is 75 years old and not in her 20’s. Right from the beginning these two just clicked and I loved how their connection evolved. Looking forward to seeing what is instore for Rose.
I love Ambers story, the first book of this series. But it took me three tries to get into Emerald. Actually there is real reason why it happened. But this time I read the whole story and really enjoyed it. All three stories of the sisters are so different but they all end up with them getting a HEA they deserve. Sam the MMC seems to be difficult but he see that he has a really great heart and he is looking out for peoples he cares for very much.
I absolutely love this new series by Elle Casey! Let me just start by saying you need to read this series in order, so be sure to read book one first! I loved Emerald and Sam's story! Em is a country girl who really doesn't want change. She likes her life just how it is and is extremely bothered by the uproar that Red Hot has created in her quite, secluded life on the farm with her family. She goes to the city to spend time with her sister for 10 days and never expected to meet Sam. Sam is quiet an has secrets, he instantly captures Em's attention with his Weirdo with the Beardo. I loved all the humor in this book, I laughed so hard. This series is just so Refreshing! Em is a sweet young hippy that is so wonderfully awkward and innocent. She's not very social or outgoing so all her and Sam's encounters are so Great! Sam is sentimental and Loving, he's a wonderful dad! Em helps Sam through his loss and at the same time Sam helps Em come out of her shell and not be afraid about everything. I really loved this book! The characters are so lovable and we got a little bit deeper into the past of Red Hot and moms. I can't wait for Rose's book! I received an arc from the author in exchange for a honest review.
"I received a complimentary copy of this book and have volunteered to leave a review."
A late review it is yet Emerald's book is on the roll right now and deserves any success. ...Second book of Red Hot Love series and Elle Casey is back with Emerald's story, Amber's sister. If you haven't read Amber's story yet then I recommend to read it first because this way you won't have many questions of what is going on in the background story. Which is the Red Hot band members.
A little synopsis of the first book. Amber's mothers create a home, a communal farm, as she called it and Amber's help there is valuable, just like her sisters are. Choosing to live there instead of chase a career in a big city is a clear decision for hers. However, her peace has been disturbed after the revelation of a big secret. Their fathers are really exist and want a place in their daughters lives. Amber, after a tough first month in New York, has met the love of her life in the face of the new member of Red Hot, Ty. Three months and lots of private talking with her fathers after, Amber starts working for the band. She also helps Ty to invite his brother Sam to work with them and write some songs for the band. And I'll be damn...His super hot presence hasn't made only Emerald to feel hot and bothered...
The sisters are unseparated. They know each other like the back of their hand. They love each other deeply. So when, Amber asks Emerald to visit, Emerald hide her fear and anxiety for the unknown for the sake of her sister's happiness. To make matters more interesting, Sam Stanz, Ty's hesitant-reserved brother, shows up earlier than he was expected. To top it off Emerald's inconvenience, Amber leaves them alone for an emergency trip.
Emerald is a sight to behold while fighting her fears for the sake of hers and Sam's welfare. She became the keeper of his secret, his lifesaver and he, in return, worshipped her body and understand her heart. Although Sam, helped her fierce self to emerge when challenging her, Emerald's fear hasn't decipher. Emerald was still in an emotional havoc for the fathers she never met were the reason.
Elle Casey's narration is, once again, well versed and atmospheric. Although the author portrays Emerald's character with care, I would prefer to see less of Emerald's inner dialogues and more real ones where she is a heck of a fiery woman...I love Emerald's clarity, the way she understands humanity, of how she holds herself while encounters uncomfortable situations and being afraid. She definitely brought all the feels in this book.
The author, once again, delivers a romance with the most heart warming storyline. The secondary characters are totally enhance this story as they each have different personalities and hold a great part into it. Emerald's story was a beautiful journey with yet another happy ending. Can't wait to read Rose's story and the end of Red Hot Love series by Elle Casey...Until next time, enjoy your free time reading great books with the most unforgettable stories.
Emerald is the shy one of the 3 sisters, preferring to stay on the farm, however her life changes drastically when a trip to see Amber in NY lands her the "job" of keeping Sam a brooding, bearded, musical genius and brother to Ty from book 1 company. This book had more serious overtones than the first and I do recommend reading them in order. Again, 3 stars because what is a big deal in the stories premise, is not dealt with.SEE SPOILER BELOW. The surprise character in this book was delightful and is the main reason it received that 3rd star. But more cheesy sayings, unresolved huge issue and insta-love are the norm for the series, so just go with it - or not
Never "seeing" the reunion actually occur between Ty & Sam pissed me off, as their separation was a big part of book 1.

REVIEW: 3.75 stars--EMERALD is the second instalment in Elle Casey’s contemporary, adult RED HOT LOVE romance series focusing on three ‘sisters’-Amber Fields, Emerald Collins and Rose Lancaster. This is twenty-seven year old, rock musician and song writer Sam Stanz, and twenty five year old Emerald Collins’ story line. EMERALD can be read as a stand alone but I recommend reading the series in order for back story and cohesion as there is an ongoing premise throughout.
NOTE: If you have not read book one –AMBER-there may be some spoilers in my review.
Told from first person perspective (Emerald) EMERALD follows the building relationship between twenty-seven year old, rock musician and song writer Sam Stanz, and twenty five year old Emerald Collins. Emerald’s sister Amber has fallen in love, and moved to New York, and our heroine misses her terribly. With an invite to visit, Emerald reluctantly sets her sights on the Big Apple but is unprepared to fall in love. Enter Sam Stanz, Ty Stanz’s (AMBER) younger brother, and the man with whom Emerald will fall in love. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Sam and Emerald, and the potential fall-out as Sam’s life begins to spiral out of control when ghosts from the past take center stage.
Sam Stanz is a song writer but struggles with the spotlight. Heading to New York to meet up with his brother finds our hero battling between the present and the past, a past that controls his head and his heart. Emerald is the quiet sister; shy and reserved but not afraid to defend the people she loves and protects. Meeting Sam Stanz stirs something deep without Emerald’s heart, a heart she is quickly losing to our story line hero. Still struggling with the truth about her mothers’ past, Emerald battles between curiosity, anger and rejection in light of the startling news.
The relationship between Sam and Emerald is one of immediate attraction but Emerald is only in New York for a short amount of time. With Sam’s home base in LA, Emerald struggles with the what ifs and whys of falling in love with a man whose own life is spiralling out of control. The $ex scenes are passionate and seductive without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
Once again, there is a large ensemble of colorful secondary and supporting characters. We are re-introduced to the members of Red Hot: lead singer Red Wylde, drummer Mooch Gyllenhaal, rhythm guitar Cash Stagger, bassist Paul Goldman, and their lawyer Greg Lister, former band member Darrell Ford, as well as Amber, Emerald and Rose’s mothers Barb Fields, Carol Collins and Sally Lancaster.
EMERALD is, like Amber, a story of family and secrets, revelation and acceptance, heart break and loss. The premise is captivating; the characters are affectionate, spirited and real; the romance is tender, sweet and encouraging. EMERALD is an emotional and inspiring tale of love, loss, and acknowledgement.

2.5 stars rounded up. This was another one that I really, really struggled with in the beginning. The first book was the same, so I had hope that it would pick-up or I would have DNF'ed it a few times in the first 25%. Luckily, it did get better and I will read the third book in the series.
What happens when 2 lonely souls find each other? Life doesn't make it easy for them to get to know each other. They are one in the same of enjoying their privacy and alone time. But quite a few events happen that keep throwing them together. This was another great book in the unique new series from Elle Casey.
I received Emerald as part of a Goodreads giveaway.
Emerald lives a contented if unconventional life on her family's "international living" farm in Central Maine. Her family consists of three mothers, friends and former groupies of the band Red Hot and two sisters, with each of the three younger women being born to a mother (by a band member father) and raised communally. Her sister April, however, has taken a job in New York City working for Red Hot, who until recently were unaware of their daughters' existence. Emerald, however, still has a chip on her shoulder from their fathers' absence, and only begrudgingly visits April at her sister's request. She is turned off by the loud, crowded city and despairs that her trip will be awful--that is, until April's boyfriend's brother, Sam, turns up unexpectedly. Sam is a talented songwriter and musician, but one whose life presents its own complications. When he is forced to attend to a personal emergency, Em takes off with him on a spur of the moment to Los Angeles that will challenge and bond them both.
Emerald is different from a lot of the bland, cookie-cutter heroines in romances--at least, she starts out that way. Unfortunately, "that way" is a judgmental, uptight, supercilious whiny brat. She was obnoxious enough that I was skeptical she even could find satisfaction, let alone happiness. What's more, at some point in the third quarter of the book or so, she makes a complete personality 180 and becomes this freewheeling, completely chill hippie chick--except where her potential fathers, who didn't even know of her existence, are concerned. I guess we're supposed to attribute this to Sam's influence, but I didn't buy it. The end, where she randomly accepts one of the band members as her father, was super-odd considering the amount of fiery hatred she had for all of them the entire time. Also, holy balls, can any of these women effectively use birth control? Not my cup of tea at all.
Normally, I’m not one to read a book when it first hits my kindle, but I had both selfish and pure reasons for not messing around and diving straight in when it came to Emerald. The pure one was that I really loved Amber and I was looking forward to seeing where else we would go on this journey with these sisters. The main reason I didn’t wait though was because I really wanted to read Rose since I found out that I was right about who her hero was going to be and I’m beyond excited for their story. And I’m not a stickler for reading in order, but I have a feeling that Rose is going to be my favorite if the not the best in this series and I didn’t want to come down even a little from that end-of-the-series high that I was pretty sure just wouldn’t be the same with Emerald. I still would have felt good and loved the Red Hot Love series though because Emerald was excellent!
And in following with this unusual-for-me theme, I’ll say a few things about Sam first even though I loved him more and I always save my favorite for last. This case is different though because the book is told just from Emerald’s point of view and I have more to say about her and I feel I should just get my piece about Sam out of the way because it’s pretty straightforward. I loved Sam, he’s amazing and wonderful and loving him was the easiest thing to do while reading this book. And yeah, I think that’s all you need to know about Sam.
And moving on to Emerald. I had a love/hate relationship with her although hate is too strong a word as I never hated her, she just frustrated me sometimes. I could understand her to a certain extent, but I just connected and empathized so much with Amber and I handle things differently than Emerald that I just couldn’t empathize with her that much. Without all that though, I actually liked and even loved her. She’s a strong, independent, brave woman even if it doesn’t seem like it all the time. Emerald truly grows as a person throughout this book and I have no regrets about finishing this book, but I was never so peeved that I thought about giving up on this book.
There was so much that Emerald had going for it. It was fun and full of passion, adventure, and so much heart. It made heat ache and race and it warmed and melted it. It wasn’t always easy to read, but I wouldn’t have wanted to change a single thing about it. And I just want to say that you should stick it out, no matter what, as it never gets so frustrating that you feel like you can’t finish, but more importantly because every piece of this book is one hundred percent worth it to make it to the end. The ending was beautiful and touching and amazing — I just loved it.
Emerald is the second book in the Red Hot Love series and it can be read as a standalone, but I’d recommend reading the books in order. It’s told from Emerald's point of view and she and Sam do get their happily-ever-after.
Note: This review is for an ARC and is my unbiased opinion.
★ ★ ★ ½ Emerald is not happy with her sister Amber for moving to New York to work for the band her father is in. They had an agreement not to let the band into their lives, but that’s something Amber seems to have forgotten now that she’s in a relationship with the band’s new guitar player Ty. Emerald is determined to avoid anything to do with the band. She’s able to do just that until Amber forces her to visit New York.
In New York, Emerald meet’s Ty’s brother Sam and they instantly hit it off. They have a lot in common, and Emerald decides Sam might just make this trip to New York worth it. Things are going perfectly until Sam’s secret calls him back to Los Angeles. Emerald has to decide if his secret is too much for her and the short time she’s had with Sam is over, or if she can open her heart to new adventures.
I have to admit that I didn’t love Amber. I liked it, but her personality really put me off. I was curious as to where the series would continue to go, so I wanted to read Emerald. I was hoping I would enjoy this sister’s personality and therefore the book more.
Emerald was easier to digest than Amber. Her personality was quieter, less in your face. I loved that she felt such a deep connection to her upbringing, and wasn’t so quickly swayed from that way of life. I did get frustrated with her stubbornness at times, but I understood it. I felt she had a genuine connection with Sam. I enjoyed how their love bloomed.
Sam was a surprise. I don’t know what I expected from his character, but it wasn’t what I got. He was a really great guy. Sadie proved that. The whole story around Sam and Sadie was sad, but sweet. I really liked it, and I liked how it fit with Sam and Emerald’s story. It made me like Emerald even more.
I do have a couple of complaints about Emerald. One was the insta-love. Everything happened within a week or two, and it felt too fast for me. I needed more time for Sam and Emerald’s love to grow. I guess I sort of got that with the epilogue, but I needed more. The other thing that bugged me a bit was the father storyline. I don’t want to give it away, but I still feel unresolved with it. I’m scared Rose’s book won’t give me what I want.
Emerald was a fun, fast paced romance. I had some frustrations with it, but overall I enjoyed reading it. It continued to keep me interested in the series storyline, and I am very interested to find out what comes next.
ME. Emerald Collins (25, sister, narrator), Amber (sister), & Rose sister, grew up in/on the Glenhollow Farms commune. Group-moms: Carol (Emerald’s bio-mom), Barbara (Amber’s bio-mom, cook), & Sally (Rose’s bio-mom) took very good care of the girls. Amber moved to Manhattan, NY., & met Ty (Sam’s brother, Amber’s lover, Red Hot band lead guitarist).
The family was excited Amber Fields called & had some exciting news for them. The Red Hot’s are going to tour Japan & want the 3 mothers to come. Emerald comes to visit Amber & she introduces her to Sam Stanz (Tyler’s brother). Later Amber got a call, Ted (mgr.) got fired & she needs to take over. Sam offered to watch over Emerald. Madison (Sadie’s mom) is not responding to medical treatment. Sam is told the Dr.’s/hospital want to pull the plug on her.
What will become of Sadie?

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written romance book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great romantic movie, or better yet a mini TV series. To be continued. Not my normal read but I will still rate it at 5 stars.

I was so excited to see that Elle Casey had published Emerald, the second installment in the Red Hot Love series. I freaking loved the first book, Amber.
In case you’re new to this series, in Amber, we meet the three sisters, Amber, Emerald, and Rose. Long story short - their mothers kept who their fathers were secret and the underlying storyline of the three book is the truth coming out and each sister’s journey of acceptance all while falling in love. Each sister is very different in personality and I am really enjoying getting to know them all.
But arggghhh!! I didn’t love Emerald’s book as much as I loved Amber. It was slow to get moving forward. At times it felt repetitive and I struggled to connect with Em. That being said, I LOVED Em and Sam.
Sexy and flirty - these two together are red hot and fun. I couldn’t get enough of their unfolding relationship. I liked the complications thrown their way and in the end, I thought it was an engaging and entertaining book.
Emerald might have been slow to start, but I’m psyched I read it. I cannot wait for the last book, Rose. I absolutely recommend checking this series out!
For the first several chapters of this book, I was listening to the audiobook while working with my hands and didn’t want to wash them so I could turn it off and find something else to listen to. I’m glad now that I didn’t, but man, it was brutal in the beginning. I honestly hated Emerald at first. She was so judgmental, whinny, selfish and bratty, I couldn’t stand listening. She was one of the most immature main characters I have ever read. But then, she met Sam. The beginning was rocky, but within day she suddenly grew up, which was shocking. She matured so much and in the end I was proud of her and so happy for her. I thought the storyline was better developed, but again was really fast. At least it wasn’t only a few days like the first book. I still preferred the first book and liked Amber a lot more as a person. She was kinder, less judgmental and more mature. I’m a total homebody, introvert and country girl, just like Emerald, but I’m not shy and I certainly hope I’m not that selfish and rude. I guess I connected more with Amber for those reasons, even though she’s a city girl and an extrovert.
Okay, it took me some time to get into this book. I loved Amber, the first book in this series but at the beginning Emerald was really getting on my nerves. She was far too naive, too whiny, too....everything and I just felt like telling her to finally grow up and get real. Soooo, these feelings flared up every now and then again but on the whole, when things get rough, she finally wo-mans up and gets things done. Sam and her, well, there are some sparks but I didn't really feel the connection and even though things were intense, their feelings, well, it all feels a bit rushed. Okay, considering the fact that Sam is absolutely amazing and I'd love to stea...ummm...borrow him, it might not be that far-fetched, actually... Sadie is a hoot, I fell for her the moment we met her. Sam and Emerald are really great with her and it's fun to read about their interactions with her. All in all it is a nice story that made me laugh and that made me cry but due to my problems at the beginning, it is a good three stars book.
Emerald's story follows on from Amber's story of how three sisters living in a hippie farm in the middle of rural Maine discover that their fathers are none other than one of the hottest and long-standing rock bands of all time. Beautiful, talented and artistic, Emerald is sensitive and loves her peaceful life in the farm collective. When Amber insists that Emerald visit her in New York City, she reluctantly goes just so she can see her sister because they miss each other so much. Little did she suspect that there in the bustle and chaos of the big city, fate would bring her together with her soul mate. Amber's boyfriend's estranged brother, Sam, a talented musician/songwriter, has been recruited to help update the band's repertoire, and the two are drawn to each other from the minute they clap eyes on the other. Drama, tragedy, fate and love combine to make this a fantastic story and a compelling read.
Book 2 did not disappoint for this reader! I love that the some of the storyline continues from the first book and I especially love Emerald but probably not for the reasons you would think. I sort of found myself by reading this book, I came to the realization that I am very much a runner, when things seem to be too much, I retreat...completely. I totally identified with who Emerald is as a person, how her thought process works, how scary change can be, how she felt like life and the people she loves were all moving in different directions. And especially how she was worried she'd be left behind, in a sense, and that she had zero control on how to stop any of it from happening. This story really resonated with me because it took me so long to "find my courage" so to speak, and I just kept thinking, this is so me, minus the hot guy with the "weirdo beard", whom I adored by the way. I'm looking forward to Rose's story.
This the second book in the red hot love series does not disappoint it is another good story. This is all about Emerald and her fear and too some extent her anger, having only just found out that she and her sister's have father's who are in a famous rock band and knowing that their mother's Lied to them does not sit well with her. When she goes to visit her sister Amber in New York little does she know that it is the beginning of a voyage of self discovery, whilst there she also meets Sam who has a troubled past and needs a lot of help they soon end up falling into bed but then his troubled catch up with him causing her to help him through. They have quite a traumatic time but love conquers all in the end. A really interesting story with lots to hold the interest throughout and a good hea at the end. Good read
I loved Emerald’s story. I loved that she sticks to her convictions, but recognizes when she is reacting out of fear... and even though the has fear, she pushes through it. Sam is such a sweet tortured soul. He and Em push each other’s boundaries to make themselves better people. I really enjoyed this book because the heroine was adamant about not meeting her would be father because of the decisions the band made 25 years ago. While she is angry, she is able to see the other sides to the story. I didn’t much like her sister demeaning and bossing her around. Maybe that helped her come out of her shell but it was the only part that I really didn’t like. And Em didn’t really stand up to her and always quickly forgave her. I can’t wait for Rose’s story!
This is Emerald, book two of the Red Hot Love Series, written by Elle Casey. Elle knows how to make you love her characters and wish you could spend some time with them. Emerald is Amber’s sister and this is her story. Sam is Ty’s brother and a songwriter that Red Hot calls in to write them some new music. You will LOVE them and Sadie is a welcome surprise with an amazing talent to call it like she sees it. You will laugh, you will cry, you will ache and cheer for them as they find their way in this brand new world. Can Em help Sam through some of his darkest days? Will they learn to lean on each other? Don’t miss this Red Hot series!!
Emerald really doesn't want to go to New York. She wants to stay at home where it's quiet and she can live the life she's used to. But her sister wants her to come, so she does. Too bad her sister's boyfriend's brother, Sam, shows up three weeks early. And then Amber has to jet to Japan leaving Emerald with a man she just met. This book just never really clicked for me. Emerald came across as more whiney that romance heroine, I never got why Sam and Emerald were going to have an HEA, and the story was pretty disjointed. Based on Emerald's attitude, I would have called this more New Adult than romance.
Continuing with the daughters of the Red Hot rock group, we have Emerald, the hippie chick. She thrives on the farm with her animals and hates the city. Sam and Emerald meet at Amber's apartment in NYC, he is Ty's brother. Their romance starts off slow with a lot of whining about the rock stars from Em, she hasn't come to grips that she has a dad but doesn't know which one. Sam has a secret but it's a good one and brings them closer together. I preferred Amber's story but Emerald's was special in her own way. I received a copy through Netgalley.
Well I will be honest Emerald did not grab me at first as Amber's character did. But after a few chapters her more quite and determined nature started to appeal. Whilst Sam grab me right at the beginning with his secrets and unique nature. The author is able to craft a story that full of wit, hilarious antics and well developed characters. Whilst the story line is fast paced, it also engrossing and well developed with main characters that draw you in. Elle Casey is an author that is a go to for me. I know I will get a enjoyable story. I am excited to read Rose.
Wow, a love story with everything. I loved how sam and Em got on so well from the beginning and complemented each others supposed weaknesses . Finding out about Sadie was huge but Am just fell right into the role and never looked back. I also loved that they all fell in love with the farm and get to stay there. I can't wait for the next book to find out about Roses story.
Sam tries to make the best of some situations, “it was very graceful,” he offers. I say nothing. “The way you fell to the side like that after you tackled my ***.” Sam is always busting his lady's balls, “you think we could actually get some sleep this time?” He pulls me against him and his hands slide down to my rear end and squeeze." I liked this book, I love this series, the main ladies are all just so honest and hold nothing back.
I liked this less than the first book in the series. It suffered some of the same flaws - in particular, that the romance felt under-cooked, since it's pretty much "insta-love"; and that once again the male lead was a bit of a cypher - but lacked the redeeming feature of a feisty, take-no-prisoners heroine. I didn't much warm to Emerald as a person, and while I liked that her path did end up being different from Amber's in book one, I didn't really feel invested in it.
