A fun children's quick read full of colourful pictures and information on 40 influential people. There's a lot of these books around at the minute. I liked this one as it links to the idea of peace and we strongly need some strong role models in these trying times.
It's a delightful book. It would a great treat for any child Free arc from netgalley
This is an interesting selection of infuential people who were fighting for peace in their time. The people picked up begins in the middle of the 19th century, and continues through to the early part of the 21st century.
As you can see by the illustrations below, each person selected is presented liked a character in a game, so you know the quick facts about them. For example, for Malala Yousafzai, we learn that she got the Nobel Peace prize, what happened to her, and what she has done since, plus a cute little drawing of her.
Obviously this is not meant to be the end all of information, but hopefully would spark children or young people to seek out more information about each of these important people who worked for peace.
Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.
"People of Peace" is an inspirational picture book for kids. 40 iconic peace advocates were selected. I have heard a good number of them but many were foreign to me. Very educational for both kids and adults. Concise and succinct background of each person keep reading interesting.
Illustrations are wonderfully rendered, as always.
This would make a perfect book for parents to introduce kids to some of the most influential peace fighters in history. Some of the choices picked for "People of Peace" might not be the best representations but there are definitely few well known figures that kids should learn a thing or two about.
"People of Peace" no doubt is a great book to add to anyone's private library.
Meet forty significant figures in the promotion of peace!
People of Peace is a very fun children's book involving people who have, each in their own way, worked towards global peace. Complete with beautiful illustrations and interesting key facts about their lives, the book is ideal for children, but fun for adults, as well! Definitely recommended as a gift to a child, and also as a family group read.
Excellent book, 49 of the 50 profiled folks belonged there as peace icons. I was disappointed that Michael Moore was included when there were obviously more deserving and effective people who did not make the list.
un merveilleux petit livre presentant quarante figures qui se sont battus et se battent encore pour un monde meilleur, avec des illustrations qui rendent la lecture encore plus agréable. jolie petit cadeau livresque.
I really enjoy books that give you a glimpse of stories of great people, and People Of Peace certainly is an enjoyable read for those reasons from start to finish. a book that is perfect for older children about incredible people from around the world.
This book is so aesthetically pleasing. The layout of this book is done so well with incredible illustrations of all the people who are featured in the book, and little facts about the people circling the illustrations that add to your picture of the person and then fact boxes that allow you an understanding of each entrant and what they have achieved.
The writing I think is better suited to an older reader (10+), and I do think for that reason it would benefit this book to have a glossary of terms used, however, it is a really good layout that gives the reader the information they need about the person featured and I think it would make me curious to know more about every single one.
A fantastic book, if you’re looking for sources of inspiration, you won’t find a better read!
People of Peace by Sandrine Mirza and Le Duo is a lovely collection of important figures from recent history (and today) who fought/are fighting for peace and human rights. It’s in a format that really works well for kids. There are quite a few of these types of books available right now, but this one is unique in the fact that it groups together well-known AND lesser known individuals who at one point (or all) of their life (lives) fought for peace in some way or another.
There are 40 people in the book, and each figure has their own page with a really cool lay-out. A short biography, some facts, a lovely illustration, and a great title. You can read about John Lennon and Nelson Mandela, but also about Tegla Loroupe, Rigoberta Mechú, and Bertha von Suttner amongst others. I loved seeing Aristide Briand and Jean-Jaurès mentioned, as growing up in France these are household names to me, but probably not to anyone outside of the country! I do think that there could have been a bit more diversity in the figures chosen, but I do appreciate that there are women and people of color represented. I also like how easy it is to pick out a figure or two and read about them during story time with the kids, and how we can use every page as a learning moment.
People of Peace will be published by Quarto Publishing Group - Wide Eyed Editions on May 3rd, 2018. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy!
People of Peace is a wonderful book featuring 40 pioneers in the pursuit of peace. Sandrine Mirza includes interesting and detailed information on each person along with a beaitiful illustration by Le Duo! Mirza and Duo have composed an important historical book, informative for children and adults alike!
Saw a sneak peek of the Table of Contents and I'm really disappointed. Out of 40 (41 w/a pair of women) icons only 11 (12) were women. I really love Wide Eyed Editions but this is disappointing, If I were them I would've pushed the author to include more women. There are so many great women Activists that could and should have been included in this collection.
This is a wonderful book for young and old. A fascinating look at the men and women who have helped to bring peace across the world. This is marketed and labelled as a children's book but we can all learn something about and from the individuals contained within the book.
This exceptional series adds 40 people of peace to its series and highlights icons who worked tirelessly for their causes whether it was political, religious, or ideals to uphold. The format allows for a short scan of each person with factoids but when a short paragraph succinctly detailing their life's mission then includes an attributable quote, terminology associated with them, or an event from history that they're aligned with. On the right-side of the page is an illustrated version of their person with a few of those factoids.
It's a nice reference guide to get interest sparked in who they were before diving in to deeper information about them or simply a positive bell ringer or closing activity to read aloud and be inspired.
A great read designed to give you a peek at the lives of 40 influential people who fought for peace in their time. You learn a few key facts about each hero and the layout is designed to appeal to all readers, especially the younger ones. I found it an enjoyable read and I used it as a gateway to research more on a few of the heroes I'd never heard about. This is the kind of book we need right now and thankfully there are a lot of this style of book out there to be found and enjoyed.
Another terrific collection of stories about famous people, I love the focus on peace in this book. Each double page spread has a clear and consistent layout with a main section of information accompanied by breakout boxes of text and simple illustrations of the person and items associated with them.
A gorgeous idea, gorgeously laid out and designed, gorgeously presented. Important. But only a quarter of the entries are women. I find this astonishing and negligent on the part of both the author and the publisher, most particularly in 2018.
Wonderful layout and graphics: appealing and perfectly pitched at the Junior High Level and - hey - even older. It's a sweeping view without being overwhelming and even my 70-year-old self learned something. Definitely appealing. BUT: 11 were women out of 40 profiles.
This book features forty people from history who have made a significant contribution in their efforts towards peace. Colourful illustrations and text features make the information easily accessible to elementary school children.
A short read on 40 people who were proponents for peace. The information is slim but the artwork is attractive. A good starting point for reading more about those featured.
Great resource for kids to get quickly acquainted with 40 people who have worked towards peace in the past 200 years, some at a great cost. Filled with facts and aesthetically pleasing!
The book is basically like a graphic Wikipedia page. I didn't enjoy it one bit. I gave it 2 stars, because I wanted more out of the book, at least tidbits that I'd never known of r heard of. But instead, it was simply a collection of people and a few deeds they did. I got this book from NetGalley. I wish the book had something new or different.
This was a great book. I loved the pictures. I like that the information was in short little nuggets, so it wasn't so overwhelming for young readers. Some of the people I hadn't even ever heard of. The only person I disagreed with being in the book was Michael Moore. I mean there were so many other better candidates. Other than that, it would have been a five from me.
I really like the premise of this book. Kids definitely need people to look up to and to aspire to be like and there are 40 tremendous choices within these pages. People of Peace is an inspiring book about 40 different people, from different walks of life, who each made it their mission to contribute to a world of peace. I love that there are both men and women from old times and current times for kids to learn about. They will learn not only about these people's missions, but a little about world history as well which I think is super cool. I even learned about a few world changers myself! I think this book should be something all older elementary school aged children should read!
Personally, I would not have put some of the people featured in “People of Peace” on my personal list of peacemakers. However, I was pleased to learn about people that I had not heard of before.
People of Peace is a collection of biographical snippets on 40 influential figures from recent history. They are all examples of world citizens who advocate for human rights and world peace. The illustrations are simple and engaging, making the text more accessible for struggling readers.
I really liked the way it paired or grouped well-known advocates with lesser known figures. Each person, from Aristide Briand to Malala Yousafzai, has their own short biography, a unique illustration, and an eye-catching title.
I would have liked to see a bit more diversity in the people profiled, but there is representation for both women and people of color. It would be easy for educators to go through this book in a month or so with students, reading about one figure a day.
