In this instantly absorbing and thrilling series, bestselling author Chris Pike delivers another suspenseful and pulse-pounding adventure in the fourth installment of the EMP Survivor series.
Nico Bell has been working undercover in San Antonio for over a year, trying to infiltrate a dangerous gang led by the mysterious Santiago. Desperate for a meeting with Santiago, Nico agrees to be a courier to pick up and deliver a package. It should have been easy, but easy isn’t in Nico’s vocabulary. EMP isn’t in his vocabulary either, but it soon will be.
Kate Chandler, who requires a service dog, desperately wants to forget her past. She works as a bartender at a historical hotel next to the Alamo in San Antonio. Young and tough, she uses the bar as a barrier so nobody will ever get close to her, again. There’s a problem, though. Nico who has been staying at the hotel has seen through the ruse. He makes a promise to her he intends to keep, that is, until the EMP interrupts his well-thought out plans.
A story filled with bravery and incredible courage, Unwanted World is a stunningly unique take on the chaos and the unraveling of society caused by the EMP. An epic tale with a twist on history and one with fascinating characters and electrifying intrigue proves once more author Chris Pike is the one to watch.
Chris Pike grew up in the woodlands of central Texas and along the Texas Gulf Coast, fishing, hunting, hiking, camping, and dodging hurricanes and tropical storms. Chris has learned that the power of Mother Nature is daunting, from floods to category five hurricanes, to slippery ice or desert conditions. It pays to be prepared.
Currently living in Houston, Texas, Chris is married, has two grown daughters, one dog and unfortunately three overweight, demanding cats.
Chris is an avid supporter of the Second Amendment and has held a Texas concealed carry permit since 1998, with the Glock being the current gun of choice.
IMPORTANT NEWS ABOUT BOOK 2: Uncertain World is now available! Readers are emailing me telling me they really enjoyed it. To find the book, please search by these words: Chris Pike EMP Survivor Series.
Hi Readers, this is Chris. I'd like to tell you thanks for stopping by and if you have downloaded a copy of Unexpected World or Uncertain World, man I am really grateful! It is because of readers like yourself that makes Indie publishing possible. Seriously. Thanks a million.
And if you have a moment, could you post a review. One or two sentences is all that is needed. I will be forever grateful. Thank you! Y'all are the best!
Nico Bell is an undercover border patrol officer trying to infiltrate a drug cartel. Kate Chandler is Chris Chandler’s younger sister hiding from her past behind the bar where she works. Nico is determined to peel back the layers Kate has constructed to insulate and protect her from her own feelings. Reload is her service dog and senses that Nico is a good man. San Antonio is rich in history. Will that history be destroyed when an EMP turns the city upside down?
Pike’s fourth novel in The EMP Survivor Series, Unwanted World: A Post Apocalyptic/Dystopian Survival Fiction Series, branches off from the previous books and takes us back to before the EMP struck San Antonio. We meet Chandler’s sister, Kate, and discover why she has not returned home. Once the EMP strikes Kate finds herself separated from Nico. Can he fulfill his promise to return?
Of all the books so far in this series, this one starts off the slowest. But, once it gets going BOOM! Watching Kate’s character grow was very satisfying. Grit gets tossed around a lot when describing characters in these type of books, but Kate truly puts new meaning to the word. I’m anxious to see where the series goes from here.
This is the fourth book in the series, with one book remaining (expected publication date early 2018). I read the first three books roughly a month ago over three days, and wanted to read the fourth book.
I received this book as a gift and I enjoyed it very much. It was a bit different than the first three books, and it took a bit of time to adjust to it, but it won me over and pulled me in. While I would have liked to have read it in one sitting, I wasn't able to do so.
It could be read as a stand-alone book but I think it is much better to read the first three books before reading this book. If you haven't read the first three books, be sure to read them in series.
Now I'm waiting for the fifth book to come out - hopefully in about six months?
This is the fourth book in the EMP Survivors Series. This is somewhat of a unique series in that each book is not a continuation of the previous book. The first two books followed one plot line, while the third and fourth focus on different survivors from the initial moment of the EMP.
The lack of continuity is by no means a detractor, in fact I find it quite enjoyable to be able to follow different groups of survivors on their journey.
This fourth book followed an intriguing set of survivors in what I would say from reading many other books in this genre, is a bit unique.
I would have given a five star rating had it not have been for what I felt was too much emphasis on how the dog Reload interpreted numerous situations. The dog's point of view different much to the story line and at times pulled me away from the story.
This was possibly my favorite book of the series. It was decidedly different in that all new characters were introduced into this world. (Kate was only mentioned in the 3rd book.) The story begins one week before the EMP & follows the adventures of Nico & Kate. At first separated, later as they struggle together. The action was interesting & for the most part believable. Spoiler: The scenes where the widows were told of the death of their husbands was somewhat plastic to me. Also there seemed to be little discussion about what had happened to the world between Nico & the pilot. Where was their curiosity? Kate’s interaction with Reload was a different twist. Vulnerable. Did they help anyone over the winter? No one showed up looking for a handout? Did they ever run anyone off? Just wondering. I’ve enjoyed the series & am looking forward to the last book.

I had read the first 3 books quite awhile ago and for some reason, didn't know there was a book 4 until recently. I was concerned about not remembering much about the people in the series, but thankfully, this starts with a new story line. Nico is a very likable character, as are some of the supporting cast. Kate is a lot more shadowy and underdeveloped. Clearly she survived a very traumatic event but beyond that and her fixation with her past, she is not fleshed out well. Both she and Nico do spend a lot of time thinking about lots and lots of things. Still, this kept me interested enough to finish and enough to continue to book 4 if there is one.
This 4th installment focuses on Kate and where she was when the lights went out. She meets up with a Border Patrol agent, Nico, who instantly falls for her prior to leaving on a dangerous mission, Kate plays hard to get. When the EMP strikes, Nico's partner is killed when his helicopter crashes and he rescues a pilot who ejects from his jet prior to crashing. Both have a difficult time getting back to the Alamo. When they do return, gangs have taken over the larger hotels and war erupts. Nico, Kate, and a handful of motel guests take on all comers at the Alamo.
One final book left in the series and I'm looking forward to seeing how this all wraps up. Great job Mr. Pike.
My only complaint, up-front: survival was far too easy in this installment of the series. The vast majority of citizens in San Antonio mostly just disappeared, and apparently only a very, very few realized the food that might be stored in the Minor Hotel. Pretty unlikely. And no one else thought that an EMP-RESISTANT helicopter old be useful? Again, unlikely.
Those factors understood, this was still a great read. Clean with no gratuitous (or any other) sex scene. Clean language. Solid values, interesting plot, intriguing characters.
Chris Pike stated that Nico Bell deserved a book of his own.. Absolutely! I've been following this series since it was written and each book continues to totally grab me as I read it. Chris Pike's characters are well developed and make you wish you knew someone like them in real life. This s an outstanding series and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys any type of action fiction. To me, this book is first an action adventure and the Post Apocalyptic aspects are secondary though vital to the series. Now for the last book in the series.. Thanks Chris Pike
Got the grand finale coming. I’m not sure how I feel about that. There was so much friendship turned extended family in Unwanted World, in all the books really, that I want to see them all together. Loved the bikers. Reload needs some pals to play with. And Kate and Nico are just gorgeous. A strong woman who doesn’t right away realise it and a good, moral man. Of course the battles are bloody as always and the good guys refuse to back down. Go the Alamo!!!
Lots of action propels the reader along this tale of the aftermath of an EMP. The characters are strong but draw strength off each other. Action, a little romance, and a lovable service dog. I look forward to the next installment and recommend this book to everyone.
Kate is a bartender in San Antonio across from the Alamo. It is very interesting to learn some of the Texas history. Kate and Nick seem to strike an instant romance but I’ve seen it happen so it is believable. An enjoyable story and my favorite character is Reload.
It's an interesting tale of tenaciousness and commitment. It's a good read but the formula is a bit repetitive if you've read the other books in the series. Character development seems rushed - things happen to fast and some plotting end abruptly. But I'm looking forward to the next book to see how it will all wrap up.
Enjoyed Unwanted World tremendously. Chris has an unusual flair for writing, and he does it without resorting to hot and humid sex scenes! Amazing! He has many readers who appreciate that. Looking forward to the next series.
More like 3.5... A quick and easy read with likeable characters. I have a soft spot for authors who give pets a voice and I enjoy the the harrowing stories of the leading men in the series at the end of each the book.
Second time I read the book. Forgot to review. I love this author's writing. No need for vulgarity, sex scenes, this is a book you can read with the whole family. Great storyline, characters....definitely 5 stars!
Almost non-stop action and major bloodletting makes this story a great addition to this series. It's going to be interesting to see how Chris ties all the storylines together the final book, but you can be sure it will be fast moving and interesting.
If you like end of the world books, EMPs are some of your favorite well here is the series for you. Good reading no big bad words just good writing. Don't miss out on a great story with wonderful characters.
Great tale inside a creative story. This author writes in an easy flowing narrative style. You get caught up quickly in the characters. I felt like I was standing beside the characters watching them move through the story. Well done!
This is one of those times when I get the first book and then end up buying the second and realize I'm going to have to buy the entire series because I'm hooked
Wonderful series, can't wait for next book, each book tells the story of humans brought together by adversity, loneliness and the need carry on with their lives.
