RUN. It’s all sixteen-year-old Tessa Carson has ever known. Hunted by a telepathic killer, Tessa and her family have fled home after home, hiding behind aliases to survive. Her scars are more than just physical, and as the only one in her family without a psychic ability, she lives a life of secrets, lies, and fear.

After the Carsons flee to a new hideout and take on new identities yet again, Tessa meets confident, carefree Tristan Walker. Their attraction burns fierce, but she runs from him too, knowing their love can never be true when she can’t even tell him her real name.

But Tristan has secrets as well—secrets that will either save Tessa, or destroy her. The only way Tessa can save her family—and uncover the real reason they’ve been hunted all these years—is to forget everything she’s learned from a lifetime of running away, and run straight into danger head-on.

Clara Kensie, author of dark fiction for young adults
…don’t forget to breathe…

Clara Kensie grew up near Chicago, reading every book she could find and using her diary to write stories about a girl with psychic powers who solved mysteries. She purposely did not hide her diary, hoping someone would read it and assume she was writing about herself. Since then, she’s swapped her diary for a computer and admits her characters are fictional, but otherwise she hasn’t changed one bit.

Today Clara is an award-winning author of dark fiction for young adults. Her debut, the super-romantic psychic thriller DECEPTION SO series, was named an RT Book Review Editors Pick for Best Books of 2014, and Deception So Book One: DECEPTION SO DEADLY, is the winner of the prestigious 2015 RITA© Award for Best First Book.

The first two books in the DECEPTION SO series, originally released as a six-part serial titled Run to You, are now compiled into full-length novels, DECEPTION SO DEADLY and DECEPTION SO DARK (Snowy Wings Publishing).

Clara’s critically-acclaimed novel AFTERMATH (Simon and Schuster), a dark, ripped-from-the-headlines drama about hope, healing, and triumph over tragedy in the tradition of Room and The Lovely Bones, is on Goodreads’ list of Most Popular Books Published in November 2016, and Young Adult Books Central declared it a Top Ten Book of 2016.

Her most recent book is KILL ME ONCE, KILL ME TWICE, a dual-POV, dual-timeline, dual-romance, dual-mystery/thriller with elements of magical realism.

Clara’s favorite foods are guacamole and cookie dough. But not together. That would be gross.

This book had a looooong journey of heartbreak and triumphs, and it's finally published the way it was meant to be. I'm thrilled that you love reading it as much as I loved writing it.

This book was so good! Full of romance and mystery, this book is one you don't want to miss. In a nutshell, I really loved the thriller aspect of this and the plot twists were great!

Note: I received a free digital copy of this book thanks to YA Bound Book Tours in exchange for an honest review.

Plot

The plot was just great! I admit, I wasn't that into it at first, but once I kept reading, I got really into it. I loved the idea of having psychic powers (first of all, who wouldn't want those kind of powers? and secondly, they make all stories so much cooler!) and I really liked the whole idea of the book; a family on the run and all. Everything was set up very well, the plot wasn't all over the place or anything, and there were plenty of plot twists and cliffhangers to keep readers on the edge of their seats! Of course, some of the plot twists can be considered predictable, I guess the only reason they weren't for me was because I didn't want to believe what I already saw coming. :P Nonetheless, this book was full of suspense and mystery, and I really enjoyed the romance too.

Characters

I just loved the characters; Tessa was just such a sweetheart! Being the only one in her family without a psychic gift, Tessa never fit in, not even in her own family. While her siblings thrive at school, wherever they go, Tessa struggles to keep up. This feeling of isolation, this feeling of being different, I sympathized with, and that made it quite easy for me to connect with her and like her. I really loved Tessa's character; she may be considered naive by some, but I found her to be realistic. I didn't approve of all her decisions, but I loved reading about them all the same. By the end of the novel (when all hell breaks loose) I was really hurting for Tessa, I had grown so attached to her that I felt her pain, and my emotions were all over the place.

The love interest, Tristan, was great too. I absolutely loved seeing his relationship with Tessa grow, and how natural it seemed. I could genuinely believe in the romance, and totally rooted for it too. He was simply so sweet and understanding, his interactions with Tessa was something I looked forward to the most.

Clara Kensie did a great job of having me emotionally invested in the characters, which made tragic and shocking events in the story have a greater impact, as I cared so much for the characters. It was great!

Writing Style

The writing style was gripping, I couldn't stop reading it, and I really enjoyed it. Written in the perspective of Tessa in the first person, the writing style allowed me to clearly see Tessa's feelings, which in turn allowed me to strongly sympathize with her. The writing style was very subtle, I was able to picture everything without having to be told what everything was like. All in all, the writing was great and simply added to my overall reading experience.

Overall...

This book was a great read, you'd never be able to tell from the cover or the beginning of the story how great it really is, but it really is. This book honestly had my heart clenched in a fist or something. The plot was hooking, and I especially enjoyed the psychic part of the whole family-being-on-the-run. I really loved the characters; I sympathized with them, and really connected with them, even though in essence I have nothing in common with them. They (or more specifically, Tessa) was simply likeable. The writing style was gripping, I couldn't stop reading the book and the writing style made the experience quite memorable! I definitely recommend this book if you're looking for an addictive, fast-paced romantic thriller, filled with plot twists and unique ideas.

This review and many more can be found on my blog: Feed Your Fiction Addiction

The title of this book does not lie. There were some surprises in this book that caught me totally off-guard (and a few that I guessed, but that’s par for the course). Many characters in the book are deceived by someone or other, but of course, I can’t tell you much more than that. In fact, this is a tough book to review without giving things away, so I’m going to have to be very generic in my review, and you’ll just have to trust me that you’ll want to read to find out where it all goes.

What Fed My Addiction:

A double life.
I’m always sort of fascinated by books where a character has to live undercover, and that’s definitely the case here. Tessa and her entire family have spent years on the run. They rarely live somewhere for more than a few months and they bring almost nothing with them. Tessa has had a dozen names over the years, and she can’t get close to anyone, partially because of the secrets she has to keep and partially due to the trauma she endured as a child—the horrific events that live on in her nightmares.

Tessa’s transformation.
Tessa has spent her life afraid. She is constantly waiting for the very-real bogeyman to catch up with her family and succeed where he failed the first time—in killing her. Because of this, she’s built a bit of a shell around herself and she’s somewhat timid. This is exacerbated by the fact that she’s the only person in her family without any psychic or telekinetic abilities—she feels like she’s the only one who can’t help to keep her family safe—always a liability. She also feels guilt over what happened to them in the first place, so there’s a lot of bad for her to dwell on. But as the book goes on, Tessa finally begins to open up and trust a bit more. She also learns to trust in her own capabilities (and to insist that others see that she’s not incapable as well). I enjoyed watching Tessa come into her own.

The romance.
Tessa and Tristan are great together, and I was definitely a fan of the romance!

What Left Me Hungry for More:

Make up your mind.
There was one point at the end of the book where Tessa made up her mind about something and then almost immediately did a complete about-face with seemingly no provocation. It made my head spin a bit and it also made me feel like the original decision was completely for the sake of creating tension (somewhat unsuccessfully). Still, this was one moment, and I felt like I understood her motivations overall—so I could easily forgive it.

Deception So Deadly is an intensely suspenseful paranormal read that you won’t want to miss! This is the second book I’ve read by Kensie, and she’s quickly becoming a favorite author. I give this one 4.5/5 stars.

This book is a whirlwind of action and suspense. I was addicted from page one!

Tessa is the only member of her family who doesn’t have a psionic ability. Her dad has the ability to see people, what they’re doing, where they are, at any time of the day, and her mom, brother, and sister are telekinetic. Tessa and her family are constantly on the run, hiding from a vile man who is trying to kill them. They’ve been on the run for so many years, never able to stay in one town for more than a year. It’s hard to form any type of relationship when you might have to abruptly leave, and can never return.

Tessa’s family is overprotective of her, because she doesn’t have any powers. They think she’s too fragile and needs constant supervision. This treatment has made Tessa extremely introverted, a recluse who shuts herself off from everyone she meets. She’s so afraid she’ll say the wrong thing. Afraid that she’ll make a connection, and will be devastated when it eventually has to be severed. She’s also angry that she can’t tell people something as simple as her real name. Tessa thinks that there’s no point in connecting with people, if she can’t be her true self.

Tristan is such a sweetie! He sees that Tessa struggles with anxiety, and other fears, but doesn’t address it. He doesn’t ask questions. He just accepts her for who she is, and tries to protect her, but not in a smothering or pitying way like her family does. Tristan believes Tessa is strong and tries to help her believe it too. Their budding romance is sweet and steady.

The last quarter of this book shocked the hell out of me. There was a huge turning point that turned everything upside down. It made me question everything I thought. I didn’t see this crazy, surprising twist coming, and it gave me chills. It was dark, agonizing, and so, so juicy. It was awesome!!

The ending of Deception so Deadly was major, and a great setup for the next book. I hope that there’s just one more book, because this series could easily wrap with two, and I’d hate for a third, or more to drag the series down.

4.5/5 stars

I read these books early last year when they had originally released as a serial and I really loved them. After rereading, I was afraid I wouldn't feel the same as I did then, what with my ever-changing tastes. I am THRILLED to say I was just as enraptured now as I was then! I have become a very distracted reader as of late and it is too easy for me to put down a book at the slightest distraction. That is not the case with Deception So Deadly. I was engaged from start to finish and completely invested in Tessa's story.

I think what made this so awesome for me was the romance between Tessa and Tristan. I loved how he pursued her, even after being rejected by her multiple times. (There's a reason for it, I promise.) He is such a good guy and I really loved how sweet he was. Tessa is a sweetheart too and I felt for her. She does not form attachments with others because her family is always on the run and must be ready to flee at a moment's notice. While her brother and sister thrive in their new environments, Tessa doesn't. She is the only one in her family who does not have psychic gifts and really does feel like she's no one special. She pulls away from Tristan because she's afraid to fall for him and not be able to tell him the truth about who she really is. She is very sensitive in that respect, not wanting to create something that's built on lies.

However, Tessa's mother, brother, and sister won't be easily dissuaded. They want Tessa to have a friend, to have some semblance of a normal life, so they see Tristan as a good thing for her. I loved seeing Tessa and Tristan together. There is so much kissing I wanted to burst. It was just the sweetest of relationships and I loved that it felt natural and it was so fitting of a young adult romance.

I really liked the suspense element in the story too. We know Tessa and her family are on the run from a Dennis Connolly, because he hurt Tessa when she was younger. Because of his own psychic abilities, he can always find them. Tessa's father has the ability to see him when he's close, which I thought was a little convenient, but there IS a reason for it, as we find out later in the book when everything is completely thrown into chaos.

I loved the chaos. It was shocking and I had no idea it was coming! It was hard to read at the same time, because my heart just hurt for Tessa. She has already been through so much in her life and to add in all of these other factors? Killed me! I won't say much more, because obviously I don't want to spoil it, but I really loved reading this book again. I can't wait to dive into the next one!

So glad to see the Run to You serial compiled in a full novel (just in time for the Romance Writers of America RITA awards for which this book was nominated!). Sometimes it's hard for me to turn off my writer brain. The fast pacing in this story had me flipping pages with barely a thought to my internal editor, so for that it gets my top ranking. I enjoyed the pure ride of this suspenseful YA about a family on the run due to their psychic and psychokinetic abilities. There was one particular twist I didn't expect, and the story kept me guessing. The one thing that surprised me a bit was a character choice at the end. Knowing the series continues in another book, I guess I thought the ending might be different. Though originally read as an entire serial, maybe the experience was different in installments. Either way, a great fun read.

I don't normally read thrillers, but Deception So Deadly had me rethinking my genre choices! I was glued to the story, especially once I got about a quarter of the way in and I had no idea who was good, who was bad, or what would happen next! I'll definitely be reading Deception So Dark when it is released in February!

It's been a while since I was this riveted by a book. I read it straight through well into the night and the early hours of the next morning, because I had to know what happened next and then after that until the very end. The suspense was sustained through the entire book, and I really was not expecting the reveal at the end. It doesn't end on a cliffhanger, but there is still a problem that needs to be solved in the sequel. I'm so glad that the next book is coming out soon!

I'm a reader who always wants to know how much romance is in a book, so I try to remember to mention that element in my reviews. There is romance woven into this story, and I liked how it developed. Since Tessa has to keep so many secrets, the romance had a forbidden element to it which was exciting. Tristan was more mature than most YA love interests, and I loved what he said to Tessa when he was trying to convince her that he knew enough about her to fall for her. Of course, with all those secrets, they become entangled in quite a web. At one point it was like they hit reset on their relationship, which I found very exciting. They don't go beyond kissing, if that's something you're concerned about.

This book was thrilling for me in a way that took me all the way back to my teens when I used to be enthralled by stories like this. That was before paranormal books all started following the same formula of the chosen one. It's not that I don't enjoy stories like that, but it's so exciting when you can't predict the outcome for the heroine, because she can't just zap the bad guy. If you want to read something different from the usual, I recommend this book.

4.5 Stars!

I first picked up this book/serial series back when it came out in 2014 and I remember totally falling in love with it. It was the first of its kind and I thought it was so unique. I couldn’t get enough and certainly couldn’t wait for the next episode. So, imagine my surprise when I heard that these serials were going to be re-released with a new title and a new series. It’s been many years since I’ve read this books, but I couldn’t wait to dive in and re-read it again.

From the moment I picked up Deception So Deadly, I was once again hooked. I immediately remembered why I fell in love with this series to begin with. From the brilliant storytelling to the writing that captivated my heart and begged me to keep reading; I couldn’t get enough. It was everything I wanted in a YA paranormal romance. With suspense around every corner, not knowing who you can trust and surprising twists; this book had my heart racing and I couldn’t help but devour each page. I had to know what would happen next and how Tessa’s story would play out.

For me, It was wonderful to revisit this story and this world that author Clara Kensie has created. It was like coming home in the best possible way. I look forward to revisiting this series again when Deception So Dark re-releases next year. If you haven’t had a chance to read this book yet, I highly recommend picking this one up.

Your whole family but you is psychic and you're being chased after by a telepathic killer. You've moved countless times to avoid being caught when you meet Tristan, your first friend in years. There are rules to follow: no screaming, answer the phone on the first ring and leave nothing personal behind. Your family's powers help to avoid detection and stop those who put you in harms way while you feel inept because you are neutral (no powers). Tristan turns out to have secrets of his own and now you, Tessa, must run straight into danger to try and save not only yourself, but your family too.

Ah! I was so lucky to have a slow day at work and power through this story in one sitting. Action packed from the first page on, this is a YA paranormal thriller you do not want to miss. I'm happy to say this is only book one in a series and I look forward to reading the forthcoming books. Tessa is such a likable character and I felt for her throughout my entire read. No love triangles here thank goodness! Maybe a little bit of instalove, but hey, don't we all have those in high school. *swoon* While I figured out a couple twists, I didn't see one thing coming and was happily surprised. Take a chance on this one, folks.

Thank you so much to Clara Kensie for this copy in return for my honest review!

This book is so fun! It's a "stay up too late to read just a few more chapters" kind of book! At first I thought it read like a typical family-in-hiding or witness protection story, but that changed quickly with the addition of some pretty awesome psychic abilities and several sudden plot twists (WOW WOW WOW!) that made the second half of the book very exciting. Readers will find themselves caring about the main characters Tessa and Tristan and anxiously awaiting the next book in what promises to be a suspenseful and amazing series.

The story starts off with a bang as Sarah, aka Tessa, gets a text while sitting in class that it's time to run. Again. Something her family has been doing for the past eight years. Her family isn't normal. They have secrets. Secrets that the government wants.

Tessa doesn't make friends, because what's the point? But when they settle into Twelve Lakes, she's pursued by Tristan, a boy with beautiful blue eyes and broad shoulders. She initially pushes back, but she's a girl and he's a boy and...hormones. While Tessa keeps her true identity from Tristan, she can't help falling for the sweet boy who makes her feel things she never has before.

The push and pull of their relationship is raw and real and kept me turning the page. As Tristan and Tessa fall for each other, Tessa is constantly looking over her shoulder, never able to relax and be normal, because at any moment she'll be on the run again, leaving Tristan behind forever.

Plot
The plot is a dual-pronged. It's the story of Tristan and Tessa, but it's also the story of Tessa's family and their survival. They must stay one step ahead of their pursuers, never knowing when they'll be found, because it is only a matter of when, not if. Both plots are very well done and kept me on the edge of my seat. They're woven together seamlessly, each driving the other in complex fashion.

Characters
Tessa is complex, deep, and wounded -- everything you want your teen protagonist to be. And while I liked the other characters, I didn't get the same level of depth from them. Even Tristan didn't come across as fully-developed as I would have liked. That may have been deliberate on the author's part, though. We see the world and the other characters through Tessa's eyes, and she's got a lot going on, what she chooses to observe and not observe are part of her character. Tessa's well-developed enough, I don't know that the lack of depth of the other characters is really a problem, but I did notice it.

World Building
The world of psychic gifts is a central part of the book, and while there isn't anything really new here, it's detailed and flows effortlessly through the story.

Writing
Clara Kensie does a great job of building tension, making Deception So Deadly read much like a thriller, but without the gore, violence, and language often found in adult thrillers. A number of twists wind their way through the plot like vines. Some I saw coming, some not so much, and the pacing was damn near perfect.

Ending
Considering this is the first of a two-book series, I thought the author did a great job of wrapping up the main story lines, leaving me satisfied, but still wanting to read the second book.

Top Five Things I enjoyed about Deception So Deadly:
1. The psychic abilities. Let's face it, no matter what you call them, super powers rock!

2. Tessa. All four-foot-ten of her. She's feisty, determined, and loyal. In her case, size really doesn't matter.

3. The twists and turns. I won't mention any of them because even one could spoil things, but I love the plotting in this book.

4. Tristan. I was hot and cold on Tristan throughout the book and I think that's part of his appeal. Just like Tessa, the author was able to pull me in before making me doubt him and his motives, then pull me in again, only to question everything I thought I knew about him all over again.

5. Jillian and Logan. As Tessa's older sister and younger brother, they look out for Tessa, but they each bring something different to the dynamic. Jillian pushes Tessa to have fun, to fall in love, because even love lost is better than not at all. Logan is two years younger, but he acts more like an older brother at times, protecting Tiny Little Tessa at all cost.

Bottom Line
Deception So Deadly is a fun, fast-paced young adult paranormal romantic adventure that is as much about the danger as it is about the romance.

Oh God, where do I start with this book?! I loved it, of course. If you are craving a fast-paced, romantic thriller, with crazy plot twists and amazing writing, look no further. There are not many quality YA thrillers out there. Paranormal romance? Yes. Fantasy? Yes. Even dystopian? Definitely. But thrillers are rare to find. And I am so glad I got to read this one.

Deception So Deadly is about a girl and her family who are constantly on the run. Hiding, lying, never getting to be themselves, never using their real names. Our main character, Tessa, is kind of the scaredy cat out of all the siblings. Always paranoid and afraid. Then one day, she meets this boy who changes everything . Ugh, so cheesy. Then one day, she meets this boy and suddenly, her secrets are hard to keep. This book had amazing romance. It was always evolving and changing, growing and becoming into this epic love story. I have to give it to Clara, she wrote one nice love story.

This book also has some supernatural elements in it, which made it SO MUCH BETTER. I was worrying it was just going to be a rather depressing thriller, but I was wrong. It added that little something to the story. And someone please tell me if they were reminded of The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer while reading this book, cuz I definitely was!

The story and the plot twists were predictable…but to some extent. It really threw me back at times. Like geez…Other than that, it was a little funny at times, there was action and suspense, and it was just a lot of fun. The characters were amazing, though some of them felt flat, the others were generously detailed.

Overall, a fantastic read and HIGHLY recommended! 🙂

Wow. Overall thoughts? A very good book - special, even. I would give it 4 1/2 stars if that was an option. I won't say much about the plot, as it's difficult to do so without giving too much away. But here are some thoughts in general:
Positives:
1) Characters: Very vivid and well-rounded (whether "good guys" or "bad guys") - 3D rather than "cardboard cut-out" characters. You get to know them better and better as time goes on and this works very well.
2) Scenes: Quite immersing. I felt as as though I was there. The descriptions aren't detailed, but enough to give a fairly vivid picture.
3) Plot: Very engrossing and full of twists and turns. Goes along at a good clip from the first sentence. It's hard to put down!
4) Romance (last but NOT least! ;) ): Clean, full of chemistry and definitely swoon-worthy. But best of all, the love that is depicted (particularly from one of the characters) is wonderfully steady, not just gushy feelings but shown in so many practical ways, unswerving. TRUE love!! :))
Negatives:
1) It's not as dark as you might think from the description; however, there are some scenes which those of a squeamish nature might find difficult.
2) The 2nd half for me was a bit TOO sombre in tone - I needed a bit more lightness at least at times.
But overall, the feeling I got left with was the joy of sweet, deep love and the hope and comfort of kindness. Many scenes I had to re-read, they were that good. I'm really eager now for the next book!!
IMPORTANT NOTE: This is the first book I've reviewed that I received free from the publisher in exchange for review consideration. I want to assure you that these are totally my honest, unadulterated opinions. I adore books and I love sharing what I think about them. I'm hoping to do review more of my favourite books soon, so stay tuned! :)

It's not often you find a book that draws you in and just blows your mind! I just loved Deception So Deadly! It was an amazingly written ya novel filled with romance, mystery, suspense, betrayal and deception. I loved it from the very first the page!

All Tessa knows is to run. She and her family have been hunted by a telepathic killer. They have fled home after home, hiding behind aliases to survive. And Tessa is the only one in her family without a psychic ability. She then meets Tristan, whom she likes. But she avoids him knowing their love can never be true when she can’t even tell him her real name.

I loved Tessa, she was sweet, kind and protective of her family. I also loved Tristan, he was great, nice and protective of Tessa. I think they are great together! I loved their connection and the way they understood each other! I liked Logan too, especially when he acted like an older brother to Tessa.

The plot was so captivating and compelling. It drew me in and I was unable to put it down! There was a thrilling aspect to it, as I was reading it I really felt the fear, excitement and emotions of the characters. I just found this novel so good and memorable that you just have to read it for yourself! I'm looking forward to see what's next for Tessa!

This was fun.

I read an old version of this story a few years back (when it was in 3 parts), and I enjoyed it. This time, I felt it was fun to revisit this new improved version.

We meet Tessa and her family, running away from some REALLY bad guy. From the start we see that this family is something special, and you’d think that was cool… except they are constantly running for their lives. :-(

In this, she meets Tristan, the first guy to love and the first person she really wants to open up to. I loved their relationship and I loved Tessa even more once she lets herself be her true self, not just hiding from the world.

I can’t say that much without giving away stuff; just that there are A LOT of secrets and a few twists that reshape everything you thought you knew.

This is one hell of a ride for Tessa in particular, something that will continue in the next book, ‘cause although not a cliffy, the end of this book is definitely not the end of this story.

Wow, what a gem! Romance part was really good and satisfying, but the suspense aspect of this book blew my mind. The lies, the deceptions, you never guess what will happen next and the author succeeded to make you sit on the edge of your seat from the beginning until the end. And the way it is combined with romance was perfect.

What did happen? What will happen? What's happening???

All the characters have depth. The heroine is down to earth and mature. Tristan is... well, perfect :) The plot is absorbing, writing is very well edited. This book even made me write my first review ever, so obviously this goes straight to my favourites!

wow what a mystery! I started reading this book and couldn't put it down. A family who is being chased because they have mysterious powers. They move place to place. Well they finally caught up to them and now the mystery unfolds or so you think... Now as we dig deeper the truth starts to unravel. This story had me glued to my Kindle and I can't wait for the sequels!!

Another fabulous read from Clara Kensie! YA and paranormal are definitely not my favorite genres but Clara has found a way to bring me into that world. The plot twists kept me at the edge of my seat while enjoying the development of the characters- especially the leads-Tristan and Tessa. Can't wait for the second "Deception So..." book to be released!

it was really good the storyline was pretty original and it was really engaging, but I felt like I could predict a lot of the twists and turns that were going to happen, but this is an amazing book and a nice quick read.

But here is a snippet and overview of what I thought:

Overall, I was addicted to the story. I could not put this book down. It was impossible. With the light and fluffy flow of the writing and the addicting plot, I was held captive. It was really interesting and great to read this book. I definitely recommend this book! Thank you so much to the author and the publishers for sending me this book to review!

I liked this. It's the first I've read by this author. I met her at an author festival. I'll go on with the series and try some of her other books as well!

Once I started Deception So Deadly, I found that I couldn't stop! It is so good. It's about a normal girl named Tessa who is on the run with her not-so-normal family.

They all have powers, psionic ones to be precise:
Her father, Andy, is a remote viewer, and has a "mobile eye" and can see anyone wherever they go, as long as he has touched them.
Her mother, Wendy, is psychokinetic (can move objects with her mind, etc).
Her sister, Jillian, is also psychokinetic.
Her brother, Logan, is psychokinetic AND hypercognitive (can learn anything super quickly).
But Tessa? She's... normal. Neutral. Which wouldn't normally be a problem, but when you're on the run from a killer who is obsessed with your family... it'd be nice to have powers, you know?

But everything changes when Tessa meets Tristan- the first boy that she has ever had feelings for, the first boy that she's ever even wanted to let in (even though she can't).

This is a fast-paced, exciting read. The plot twist towards the end was SO CRAZY and I loved it so much!! Tessa was so relatable, and I agreed with her decisions most of the time which is a plus. Tristan was swoon-worthy for sure. 😍
The writing is simple and light, and just my style. I feel like it'd be the perfect book to take and read on the beach (which is high praise coming from me, because beach reads are absolute GOALS).

I am SO excited for the sequel!

Independent Reviewer for Archaeolibrarian:

I received a copy of this book from YA Bound Book Tours in exchange for a fair and honest review.
This book was very interesting. The twists and turns that happen in this book are incredible and kept me reading from page one. The story line sounded interesting but I think was written better than I could have hoped. Nervousness, excitement, worry, dread, are a few emotions that I felt while reading this book. Just as I thought I had figured out what was going to happen, the author threw another curve ball and some of those curveballs were major curveballs!
This isn’t just a suspense or thriller there is some sweet romance going on too. Tessa needed someone, a friend per say, that she could attach herself too. She didn’t want to become close to anyone because her family was always moving to new places and it was easier to form no attachments than keep breaking them. Tristan won’t go away. I loved their back and forth and sweetness for one another.
There are questions that are left unanswered after reading book one that I hope will be answered in book two. While we get a general idea why the family was left constantly running and under attack, I would love some more detail for this. Since this is a two part story I’m reserving my judgement until book two for it to really affect my review. I’d definitely check this book out!

Note: This review contains NO spoilers

This is definitely not a new read for me! I read book one when it was still a serial...before it was compiled into this full-length novel. Even after rereading it, this start in the series still kept me at the "edge of my seat." I have to say that I still loved it! I was absolutely transfixed to the story with each turn of the page. Filled with action and suspense, Deception So Deadly is an intense thriller that kept my heart racing.

Clara Kensie created amazingly well developed characters and a world that teens can relate to...without the psychic abilities and that espionage and mystery feel of the story, that is. Other than that, the story itself was fast-paced and gripping story of one teen's struggle with secrets and betrayal. I also loved the budding romance between Tessa and Tristan...it wasn't overpowering or subtle. I thought this developing romance was well balanced and was intertwined within the story perfectly.

Deception So Deadly is just the beginning of this suspense thriller series that kept my heart racing and me holding my breath. This is definitely one intense and gripping romantic thriller that will keep you turning the pages.
