Bu düzeni sona erdirmeye kararlıdır çünkü özgürlük tek seçenektir. Yoksa değil mi?
I have a lot of good things to say about this book, but there was one thing that knocked what could've been a 7.5/10 to a 4/10.
THE PLOT This book is very on-the-go. There is no break, no slowing down, just one scary adventure after another, one battle after another, one person dying, another one injured, fighting, fires... you get the drill. It's jam packed with action scenes, and i had a good time reading it. I really liked how the story unfolded with an intensity that left me breathless and clutching the book so tightly my hands turned numb.
THE PACE As mentioned, the book doesn't stop. The pace isn't exceedingly demanding, which i thought was nice. even though things were happening nonstop, i did feel as though some scenes were not jarring/impactful enough for a couple of reasons.
one, the book didn't have a 'slow-down' scene. there was no cooking around a campfire, a little brief respite. everything kept happening one right after another, with little to no contrast in pace, which was a little sad because a good, strong contrast could've made at least 4 of the action scenes 10x more intense and impactful.
two, the book moved fast. but a good, fast pace doesn't necessarily mean that details should be compromised on. certain things felt glazed over, like the author was working on a tight deadline and didn't really have much time to put in the little extra detail that would've made the story all the more breathtaking.
THE CHARACTERS the story focused way too much on 3 characters - Alenna, Gadya and Liam. It felt as though they were the only 3 people who actually mattered. they seemed to be the catalysts for everything, which even though was true, made the story seemed a little bit half assed. it's not a deal breaker to me when it comes to deciding if a book's good or not, but i would've LOVED to see Cass a little bit more, or David, or Alenna's mum.
THE ENDING LORD. This book was a solid 4 stars for me, but the ending ruined it all. it was building up amazingly - fast paced, scary, a little worrying, suspenseful... and then alenna tripped and knocked her head and then we fast forward to two years later?????? what???? the ending felt like a "When your essay is due at 1159pm and it's 1130pm and you're only halfway there" kinda rush. it wasn't satisfying at all. there was so much that could've been explored. so many plot holes to tie. so many things to write about. i had so many questions, but it just... ended.
i have never been so let down by an ending, ever. most of the times, endings are predictable and boring, but this one? this one had the potential to be great. it had the potential to be something absolutely phenomenal, but i feel like we just got a whole lot of half-assery. i'm so disappointed. i hate the ending, and i hate that i dislike this book because it ended on such a sucky note.
OVERALL Wouldn't strongly recommend to anyone. Yeah, if you see it in the library and have a little extra time on your hands, why not? Don't buy it, and don't read it if you're looking for something really worth your time.
So let me get this straight: Alenna and Gadya can get shot at about a million times and each only get hit ONCE in a non-lethal part of their body, and then run around for days with untreated gunshot wounds in their arms and they're completely fine... But then as an added side note in the epilogue they get injured from falling into a hole because "guys seriously they got hurt from the rebellion too for real, I mean Alenna has a SLIGHT LIMP." And all of a sudden germs exist again and wounds can get infected AFTER the rebellion is done when these kids have been running around with injuries during this entire trilogy and have never used disinfectant?
Not buying it.
Also "the nuclear bomb we detonated messed up the ecosystem and a bunch of animals went extinct and a bunch of people died from crazy weather and flooding but like it's fine because the Europeans won our revolution for us so it was totally worth it". Don't even know what to say about that.

It was a good book throughout but the ending kind of spoiled it and there were so many twists and turns that everything became obvious. The ending was all rushed and many things were left out I believe.. The only character that I truly liked and because of whom I finished the other 2 books of the trilogy, David, turned out to be a power maniac and the way his story ended was terrible and ruined the book for me. I'd have preferred that at least for once their plan worked out properly without that mutant twist in the end and then David joining sides with the Ministers. It'd have been better if they just overthrew them like they originally planned with David on their side. And once again the bad love story between Liam and Alenna gets on my nerves.

Why can't it be out now! It's driving me nuts please please Lisa m stasse if your reading this work really hard at getting it out sooner this I officially think these books are better than the hunger games and that says a lot because anyone I've come in contact with knows I'm a majorly obsessed fan with shirts posters necklaces pins I Oder what's going to happen next almost every night
I am so sad that this series is over! Holy hell this book was a mind f***!!!! It made me smile and cry and wow some characters... I can't believe what happened!
After reading book 1 I was left wanting to know more. After reading book 2 I was fully engulfed in the series and invested in the characters, for me book 2 was much better than the first and I hoped that the author would continue to get better as we headed into book 3.
The Wheel is now history, that battle has been fought, but a much bigger one stands ahead. It is now time for Alenna to face the UNA head on, right in the middle of it’s own territory – by returning to where she grew up. After undergoing extreme training, Alenna and Liam are ready for the next battle, but it isn’t long before they are separated and once again fighting desperately for both their own survival and victory over the UNA. We have other characters make a return appearance such as Gadya and Cass, they are a refreshing addition and probably my favourite characters.
I expected this book to be ram packed with action and be really fast paced but I actually felt like it was a lot slower again and I found myself getting bored in places, I just wanted them to get on with it. For example Alenna in the Farm house labour camp – this was a necessary addition to the story, her captivity and submission but for me it just dragged on that bit too long, constantly waiting for her to break out and yet not daring to.
For me the story was a bit too political, I knew it was a fight against a government but instead of a clear battle, there were so many debates about what was right and what was wrong and why things were being done, and whether that was the right thing to do for all civilisation – it just got a bit tedious. There were also so many bad guys – or even possible bad guys that is started to get a bit confusing as to who was really in the wrong and who was just misguided. You never know who to truly trust – and to a certain extent that can make for good reading –keeps the tension, but again it was just too multi-layered and I just got a bit fed up and assumed everyone was evil.
There were some exciting moments and some quite sad moments and there were times when I really did start to race through the book again, but overall I found this book disappointing. It had so much potential from book 2 to make an epic conclusion, it just felt like things got a bit lost on the way.
I’m glad I finished the trilogy and it was worth a read but I don’t think I’d want to read it again. It just didn’t wow me.
OVERVIEW: I will not lie, one of the only reasons I enjoyed this book so much was watching Strasse's improvement as a writer. Alenna Shawcross has survived the wheel. Now, she is back in the United Northern Alliance, sent on several undercover missions to liberate the UNA to its formal glory. She is with her boyfriend, Liam and best friend, Gadya throughout most of the book, however, in the beginning she was sent to the Hellgrounds, a ginormous UNA base that conducted experiments on rebels like Alenna and her friends. Later she escapes and reunites with her friends.
FAVORITE CHARACTER: My favorite character was going to be David, because I admired his ingenuity, and then he ruined everything. I think my favorite character would have to be Cass. She was a former drone, but as soon as the drugs that took over her on the island left her body, she put her past and her pride aside to for the bigger picture. She did not hide her past because she knew that absolutely none of it was her fault. People were constantly berating her for what she had done but she kept her head held high and was still a fierce character.
ONE THING I WOULD CHANGE: If I would have to change ONE thing I would change the entire love scheme between Liam and Alenna. They simply showed too much affection in inappropriate times and overall had a very unrealistic relationship. They never argued with each other or showed flaws. Liam was Alenna's first boyfriend: where was the awkwardness? The embarrassment of showing affection in front of other people? Liam has had previous girlfriends; one of them being Gadya; but Alenna should have been more reserved when it came to that stuff.
RECOMMEND: I would recommend this book to anybody who hopes to become a writer one day, or even hopes to improve their writing skills. As mentioned earlier, I enjoyed Strasse's improvement; watching grammatical errors slowing decrease, subtly changing Alenna's character from a boy crazy damsel in distress to a strong female character that didn't need her boyfriend, or anybody constantly protecting her. Every book got better and better in this series.
I just finished The Defiant, the last in the Forsaken trilogy, and I'm still reeling! Knowing this was the last in the series, I knew not to look for another and had to accept the ending as the end, but I did check to see if Stasse has written any other series and was immensely disappointed that she has not! This is really concerning to me right now as I really loved this series and her style of writing and I really want another series by her to read!!
This novel starts while Alenna and her friends are on the wheel, but most of its entirety takes place in the UNA. As Alenna, and some others, arrive back in the UNA to help rebel groups stand up against the correct government, they will find their journey is much more difficult than they could have anticipated. An insurmountable hurdle always seems to pop up, that they always conquer of course, so perhaps a lot of bad luck also mixed with some good luck and skill gets them through. However, there are personal losses and setbacks that nearly destroy them at points. My characters are not who they seem and they have to rely upon each other in order to continue on their mission to defeat the UNA.
The ending was a good mix of action, surprise, tragedy and optimism. Just when I though it would end, there was another surprise and while it did end well, my mind hasn't been able to stop from the scenes prior to the epilogue.
Overall, I found this series very well written and addicting. I loved the characters. I loved the story line. I love the dystopian theme. I loved it all. The author did a fantastic job of weaving it all together and I hope there will be more to read from her in the future!
*NO SPOILERS* (This is a review for the whole series) First of all, ignore the negative reviews. I loved this series (It is my favorite underrated gem), but hey, everyone is different.
I admit I was skeptical to read this book at first (I'm a pretty picky reader sometimes), but once I got through the first couple of chapters, I couldn't put it down. I have read a lot of Dystopian books with a sci-fi edge, and I believe this book series could be my favorite. Yes, it has similar elements to Divergent and The Hunger Games and other books, but what do you expect? There are only so many original ideas that can come from a futuristic, rebellion-themed series.
HOWEVER, I found it to be unique in its own way and a very good book with great characters. I love Alenna's growth throughout the books. I also loved how incredibly complex David's character was. I found myself constantly trying to understand him and learn why he was the way he was. And the whole series is full of twists and turns that I did not see coming (THAT SECOND BOOK THOUGH). The one thing I learned from this series is: You can't trust ANYONE.
Unlike other YA Dystopians, this series is fast-paced from the beginning of the first book until the end of the third. I have read this series several times and found it very well written and definitely UNDERRATED. Yes. The love stuff is a little cheesy sometimes, but most YA love is (Examples: Katniss & Peeta, Bella & Edward, Tris & Four, etc). It really starts to grow on you, however, by the end of the series.
I 100% recommend this series! The message is beautiful and the characters are relatable. Period.
I feel emotionally frustrated with the conclusion of this book / series! I feel that although this book filled my thirst of none stop action, I became frustrated with the journey of these seemingly important 3 characters and that most of the exciting action was given to us in the last 5 chapters of the book.
I loved the journey and the in depth descriptions of each task and challenges these characters had to face, however as soon as Alenna, Liam & Gadya got their bikes and cycled all the way to New Chicago. The action ultimately was turned up by 10 and the pace felt the same. So many incredible, potentially exhilarating and adrenaline filled scenes could have been introduced earlier and not felt so rushed. This plot could have been lengthened, there was opportunity to dive deeper into the battle we’d all been waiting for against the UNA. But it felt like I was in a Lamborghini going at top speed of 200mph down the motorway and not taking a minute to appreciate the landscapes, scenery and acknowledging how I feel about them. Then I hit my head and we get hit with the epilogue which is 2 years later after the events. I was shook and stunned at the amount of plot holes that were left not filled or loose ends that were not tied up!
And Markus???…..They just give up!!! What!??
Don’t get me wrong I loved this series and I will miss these character’s I’ve come to love and know. I just don’t feel satisfied, I feel empty, confused and slightly happy it’s over.
In the last book of "The Forsaken" series, The Defiant is an action-packed story as you follow Alenna as she, and her friends, rise up to defeat the UNA. You follow Alenna, Liam, and Gadya as they go back to the UNA, and start a long mission to defeat the corrupt leaders and make UNA a good place again. You go through a fairly large plot twist and a lot of your favorite characters die in the name of rebellion.
I really liked this book. Much more than the second one. I like how Alenna has to be split away from everyone and has to become much more independent and she realizes that she's not always gonna have someone get her out of bad situations and that she has to do it herself. I also like how there is a good ending, but some characters that I loved died.
It was the final book out a series. This book left me with a satisfied feeling but wasn't happy on how manny character died just because the author only wanted the main three characters to live. This book is extremely fantasy and sic-fi like because of all the high tech machinery that is used to drug rebels like Alenna, Gadya, and Liam, to follow the scientists' orders. It finally had a oaky ending unlike the other two books leaving a negative feeling. This book was jumping around and had the occsianal death of a supporting character. This book was a fun read, but has no re reading value.
Better than the second book. I almost stopped reading the second book after the first few chapters but glad I finished it so I could read this last book. There are major holes in the book, like the fact that they never eat or drink for days maybe weeks. I’m glad I finished the series but definitely not a keeper to read again and will donate to goodwill as I don’t see any reason to pass it along to a friend either. Book 1 was just okay and 2 was fairly bad but the writing and the characters got slightly better in book 3.
For a minute there I thought this wasn't going to wrap up by the end. As with most YA, this was not believable and the characters can be very unlikeable. I don't usually read YA dystopian anymore for these reasons, but I found these at my local thrift store and loved the covers. At least I get to check off another series.
I thought this ended great. A lot going on for my attention span. Here’s the things that stood out to me:
*I’m thinking Liam is made of lead because everyone he hits, they’re knocked out cold. lol *UNA were creating scarier things *Woah David, my have you changed *Gadya is a ruthless badass *Alenna and Liam’s was romance in the background except for when they were separated.. Then that was all Alenna was thinking about *The ultimate betrayal. That weasel *That epic showdown at the end *The very end (epilogue of sorts) 2 years later was a nice touch to kinda see how things were going
I loved how action packed this final instillation was! It definitely kept me on my toes! It went a direction I personally wasn’t expecting, but I do feel the ending and epilogue were rushed, especially compared to the rest of the story.
I hate to see the series end, but it was full of twists and turns that kept me on my toes. The epilogue allowed the book to come to a full end, and I felt like I was on this journey with them.
4.8/5 A thrilling conclusion to the series!! I was crushed when Cass died as she was one of my favourites. And I never saw the plot twist about David coming. As the saying goes, you either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villian. This book gave me the closure that I needed, and I'm so attached to Alenna and Gadya. Would re-read over and over again and The Forsaken has been by far, my favourite series of all time.
