Gritty, dark, and disturbing!
Find Me is a complex, creepy thriller that takes you into the life of the tormented, grief-stricken Jar as he embarks on a relentless and harrowing journey to discover, once and for all, the true fate of his girlfriend Rosa who allegedly committed suicide five years prior.
The prose is intense and tight. The characters are skeptical, focused, resilient, and in some cases depraved. And the plot, told from multiple perspectives, quickly unravels as it spins you through an intricately-crafted story filled with unforeseen twists, well-timed surprises, mind games, espionage, murder, perversion, evil and pure wickedness.
Find Me is a unique, riveting tale with explicit sexual imagery and demoralization that will not only entertain, but will also confound, shock, disturb, and even frighten you.

This is a super creepy, intriguing beguiling read that will keep you guessing.
Jar doesn’t believe that his girlfriend Rosa could take her own life. He knows her. She wouldn’t do such a thing. Why?
In his dreams he sees her, on the tube, doing this, doing that, going here going there. He’s convinced this is not dreams, it’s not his imagination.
He discovers her diary. That convinces him that she didn’t take her life, maybe she’s hiding, but, from what?
This is full of intensity that shuck me.
The authors writing is amazing. I loved it

Trigger warning: psychological abuse, animal abuse.
Another day, another "I wanted a crime-y thriller but this turned out to mostly be a spy thriller but then turned INDESCRIBABLY psychological in the last 20% WTF even is this book??" book.
I nearly DNFed this so many times during the first two thirds of the book. There was spy stuff. I really didn't like Jar as a character. I didn't give a shit what happened to Rosa. It was a non-chronological narrative, which I really hate as a plot device. And it was full of spy shit, which just bores me senseless.
And then all of a sudden, it turned into a book about torture??? Like...when the fuck did that happen?!
Do not read this if you have issues with psychological torture experiments being carried out on animals. Or people for that matter. But seriously. A lot of animals die in this book. It's pretty fucked up.
So yeah. I was NOT expecting the incredibly disturbing torture stuff. I seriously considered DNFing it at that point. But I was past the 80% mark and it seemed dumb not to find out how it all ended, so I pushed through. And to be honest, I kind of regret it.
In short: it jumps between first person and third person narratives. It jumps between multiple narrators. It jumps around in time. And then there's torture. Nope.

This one was fun! The further along I got in the book, the more I noticed I was spending lots of time thinking about how I might be able to adjust my schedule to carve out more reading time each day to more quickly return to the search for Rosa Sandhoe. A 3.5 Star read I’m rounding up to 4.0 Stars for the thrill of the search and captivating story behind Rosa’s disappearance.
Rosa, a college student who lost her dad just before her First Term at Cambridge in 2011, has been dead for five years, a suicide leap from the Cromer Pier although her body was never recovered. But Jar swears he has seen her alive since then, with increasing frequency the past few years, most recently in the underground in London. His psychologist, who specializes in bereavement, diagnoses these sightings as post-bereavement hallucinations. Jar isn't buying it! The sightings are too real and the similarities to Rosa far too great to be hallucinations. He has never stopped loving her, knows in his heart she would never take her own life and can feel her presence.
When Rosa’s aunt Amy emails Jar after stumbling upon an inaccessible, encrypted folder called Rosa’s diary on the hard drive of her laptop, he knows Rosa is out there, somewhere. The fact that his apartment was ransacked shortly after he took possession of the computer hardware only corroborated his belief that someone else knew she was alive too and did not want him to continue his search. The pursuit takes Jar Costello, his co-worker Carl from the art website where they worked and Max Eadie, a former journalist who had attended Rosa’s wake five years ago, into the depravity of the Dark Web and the role of Big Pharma contract research organizations in the development of anti-depressant drugs.
The story is fraught with twists and turns and a boat load of red herrings. I found it so very interesting, after finishing the book and taking some quiet time to put it all together, that themes of writing and the obstacles and challenges of emotional trauma are so interconnected thorough this book. Jar is an accomplished short story writer although he’s not written a single word since Rosa disappeared. Rosa's uncle Martin is a displaced CRO worker who aspires to be a novelist, although he's turned to journaling to overcome his literary struggles. Amy uses writing to work through anxiety issues, Max is a former freelance journalist whose renewed passion for the pen drives him in Jar’s quest to find Rosa while Rosa kept a diary to work through her depression after her father was tragically killed, the same diary that became tangentially and creatively connected to posts on the Dark Web about new clandestine human experiments, based on the 1960’s work of American psychologist Martin Seligman on learned helplessness and treatments for depression, to develop the next generation on anti-depressant drugs. Videos of the experiments are posted online, a perverse combination of scientific, albeit human experimentation and BDSM. The graphic debauchery of the videos and the odd but irrefutable connections between Rosa's writings and the online comments by Laika57 helps Jar connect the dots. He knows!
I love it when a book motivates me to research names and places in a story. My Google maps journey to Cromer on the coast of England was wonderful. My research on the work of American psychologist Martin Seligman's research on learned helplessness in 1967 at the University of Pennsylvania was fascinating. Now I know where the experimental harnesses, electric shocks and shutter-boxes came from although Seligman’s experiments were done on dogs!
This is the first thriller I’ve read in a while and it was great! I recommend you take it for a ride.

Find Me, the upcoming psychological thriller by J.S Monroe, was a book that can only be described as mind-blowing. Slow building and perplexing, I spent half my time reading unsure of what was happening and going back to reread pages. I didn’t know whom to trust and I didn’t know who was reliable. Needless to say, in the end, when all was said and done, I sat back in awe of Monroe. What. A. Wild. Ride.
This one opens in the middle of the action, I found myself trying to clutch for any information wildly. Jar, a man who lost his girlfriend (Rosa) to suicide five years prior, is continuously “seeing” her. Struggling with his grief, he decides to see a grief counsellor. However, when her diary is discovered, he begins to doubt that Rosa is dead and starts to investigate the situations surrounding her murder.
This one gave off a “conspiracy theory” vibe almost immediately and I loved it. Is she in a cult? Was she kidnapped? Is she involved in a government agency? All of these questions were running wildly through my mind. I also loved the attention the author gave to the idea of “grief hallucinations” and the way your mind tries to cope with intense grief. This was incredibly interesting.
The novel is told through two different perspectives. We hear a narrative voice from Jar and then a perspective from Rosa’s diary, as she explains the years leading up to her suicide. I did find the narration a little hard to follow at times, especially in regards to the diary entries. They were all over the place, and, although they were dated, they were not in order. I felt like the chronological organization would have made more sense and would have been easier for me to follow. However, once the twists are revealed near the end, this confusion all makes sense.
This one ended up reminding me of The Nightwalker by Sebastian Fitzek; I didn’t know what was real or who to trust or really what was happening. After reading the last pages, all I could do was say “WHAT??!!” and look around wildly.
If you want a psychological thriller, and I mean a true mind-bending, confusing type of read, then this will be your next pick. Hands down.

For me I like to have the book grip me from the very first page to leave me hooked and wanting more. Or to simply sink me into the the book with a happy feeling that I can't wait to read what's to come.
Sadly that wasn't the case for this book. I wasn't gripped from the start. But unpreterbed I went on. Sadly I don't get hooked into the book. In fact as it continuously flipped time zones and between characters. I was left feeling jolted and confused. Nothing flowed properly and nothing happened in chronological order. Which made it even harder to connect with.
I usually love psychological thrillers but the slow moving plot. Just didn't work for me. I like my paychological thrillers a little bit more edgy and edge of your seat.
Sadly this book fell flat for me. Let me know if the comments what you thought.

UPDATE MIA HMEΡΑ ΜΕΤΑ
Σπάνια όταν κάθονται οι σκέψεις και τα συναισθήματα, αφού τελειώσει ένα βιβλίο αλλάζω άποψη. Αυτό έχει συμβεί ελάχιστες φορές, όπως με τον Παίχτη και το Αγαπητέ Θεέ. Η αλήθεια όμως είναι πως έχω τόσες πολλές ευκαιρίες να γίνομαι άδικος στη ζωή μου, ώστε δε θέλω να το κάνω και με τα βιβλία που είναι απ' τα πιο σημαντικά κομμάτια της ζωής μου. Είναι ευθύνη προς τον εαυτό μου και τις αναμνήσεις μου, αλλά και αποδοχή μια άποψης που έχω σχηματίσει πως κάθε βιβλίο έχει τον αναγνώστη του και μπορεί να τον απογειώσει. Δεν έχω λοιπόν το δικαίωμα να του το στερήσω, αλλά αναγνωρίζω πως αν με διαβάσει του οφείλω να είμαι ειλικρινής σε ό,τι αποκόμισα. Αυτό πάνω από οποιαδήποτε μορφή μωροματαιοδοξίας που όλοι ως ένα βαθμό, έχουμε. Το βιβλίο δεν έχει καμιά ''υποχρέωση'' να ανήκει σε ορισμένο είδος, ή κατάταξη. Γι' αυτό και τα τελευταία χρόνια προσπαθώ - χωρίς να το καταφέρνω πάντα - να μη γίνομαι υπερβολικά σνομπ όταν κάποιος εκθειάζει ένα ορισμένο βιβλίο.
Στο προκείμενο όμως, δε θέλω να αδικήσω το βιβλίο. Γρήγορο, με πλοκή που χωρίζεται σε πλοκάμια, τα οποία πάνε από ‘δω κι από ‘κει και κουλουριάζονται, τριπλή αφήγηση – βασική η τριτοπρόσωπη αφήγηση στο τώρα και δυο ημερολόγια - σε δύο χρόνους, μόνο που στην περίπτωση του ενός απ’ τα δύο ημερολόγια, δεν είσαι πραγματικά ποτέ σίγουρος σε ποιο χρόνο αναφέρεται και που κατά διαστήματα αλλάζει κι από ημερολόγιο γίνεται η σκέψη ενός ανθρώπου που δε μας έχει συστηθεί αλλά τον μαντεύουμε εύκολα.
Μου άρεσε πολύ ότι ο Μονρό σημειώνει συγγραφείς που του αρέσουν, ή έχουν κινήσει το ενδιαφέρον του, όχι σα να απαριθμεί ονόματα για να πουλήσει μούρη, αλλά ουσιαστικά συνδέοντας τα με τα χαρακτηριστικά ή τις απόψεις κάποιων ανθρώπων, αλλά και ενίοτε θέλοντας να κάνει κάποιο σχόλιο στο έργο τους.
Οι διάλογοι είναι γενικά αληθοφανείς, παρότι δεν αναπτύσσονται όλοι οι χαρακτήρες όσο χρειάζεται. Κάποιες στιγμές χάνει το ρυθμό του, αλλά τα μικρά κεφάλαια δίνουν την ευκαιρία να μη γίνεται πολύ κουραστικό.
Υπάρχουν δυο σημεία βασικά για την ανάπτυξη της πλοκής που ίσως να θεωρηθούν εξωπραγματικά από κάποιους, αλλά δεν πιστεύω πως είναι. Το πρώτο έχει να κάνει με το πένθος. Πριν μερικά χρόνια έχασα ένα πολύ αγαπημένο πρόσωπο και για πάρα πολύ καιρό επειδή όλοι το σκάσαμε και το είχαμε στενοχωρήσει πολύ, είχα πείσει τον εαυτό μου πως ζούσε κι είχε φύγει μακριά για τιμωρία μας και έβρισκα σημεία για να στηρίξω μια θεωρία, που καταλάβαινα την ευαίσθητη πέτσα της. Ήταν μια διαδικασία για να ξεπεράσω το πένθος, που ίσως να το κράτησε για περισσότερο καιρό δυνατότερο, αλλά η θεραπεία λειτούργησε στην περίπτωση μου. Η μια βάση του μυθιστορήματος πατάει πάνω σ’ αυτό κι ήταν ο λόγος που το αγόρασα.
Το άλλο βασικό στοιχείο σχετίζεται με ένα ζευγάρι όπου η γυναίκα είναι ασταθές συναισθηματικά άτομο κι ο σύζυγος ανάλογα των αναγκών του παίζει με τα φάρμακα της. Έχω γνωρίσει ένα τέτοιο ζευγάρι, που έζησα από κοντά την περίεργη ισορροπία μεταξύ τους και το μόνο που ξέρεις είναι πως όταν ο ένας πλησιάζει περισσότερο στη κανονικότητα, ο άλλος απομακρύνεται απ’ αυτή και πολώνονται κατ’ αυτό τον τρόπο διαρκώς.

Μου άρεσε και διασκέδασα αρκετά.
Κάποιες απ’ τις πιο κουραστικές αναφορές σχετίζονται με διάφορες φαρμακευτικές ή χημικές ουσίες και όσο πιο πολύ προχωράει η ιστορία, μοιάζουν να κινητοποιούν το ψυχωτικό ενδιαφέρον κάποιου, κλιμακώνοντας και το δικό μου ενδιαφέρον που έφτασε τη συμπόνια για τα πειραματόζωα. Και μια παράλληλη εικόνα – ιστορία μέσα στην ιστορία, με τον εγκλεισμό ανθρώπων σε μια βαθιά εφιαλτικά προβλέψιμη απομόνωση, που θυμίζει κάπου κάπου τις ώρες αναμονής του Καίσλερ στην Ισπανική Διαθήκη κι αλλού τα εφιαλτικά βασανιστήρια του Γκουαντάναμο. Το θεωρώ ιδιαίτερο προσόν για το συγγραφέα, πως δεν πουλάει απλά το παραμύθι του, τονίζει την ουσία του και γεννάει ενδιαφέρον. Μια λεπτή ματιά πάνω στην τρέλα της υπερβολικής ελευθερίας που μπορεί να μας οδηγήσει η αναζήτηση της φιλοσοφικής λίθου και όλων αυτών των καλών σκοπών που για κάποιους αγιοποιούν και τα μέσα. Κρίμα που δεν εμβαθύνει περισσότερο σ’ αυτό, αλλά επιμένει περισσότερο σε άλλα σημεία, που ωστόσο παραμένουν χλιαρά.
Τα παλιά Ελληνικά Γράμματα είχαν καλύτερη επιμέλεια. Σε ένα μεγάλο μέρος το χτένισμα είναι ανεπαρκές κατά βάση σχετικά με τα ονόματα. Εύχομαι πάντως να ορθοποδήσει ξανά ο εκδοτικός.
Σπάνια όταν κάθονται οι σκέψεις και τα συναισθήματα, αφού τελειώσει ένα βιβλίο αλλάζω άποψη. Αυτό έχει συμβεί ελάχιστες φορές, όπως με τον Παίχτη και το Αγαπητέ Θεέ. Η αλήθεια όμως είναι πως έχω τόσες πολλές ευκαιρίες να γίνομαι άδικος στη ζωή μου, ώστε δε θέλω να το κάνω και με τα βιβλία που είναι απ' τα πιο σημαντικά κομμάτια της ζωής μου. Είναι ευθύνη προς τον εαυτό μου και τις αναμνήσεις μου, αλλά και αποδοχή μια άποψης που έχω σχηματίσει πως κάθε βιβλίο έχει τον αναγνώστη του και μπορεί να τον απογειώσει. Δεν έχω λοιπόν το δικαίωμα να του το στερήσω, αλλά αναγνωρίζω πως αν με διαβάσει του οφείλω να είμαι ειλικρινής σε ό,τι αποκόμισα. Αυτό πάνω από οποιαδήποτε μορφή μωροματαιοδοξίας που όλοι ως ένα βαθμό, έχουμε. Το βιβλίο δεν έχει καμιά ''υποχρέωση'' να ανήκει σε ορισμένο είδος, ή κατάταξη. Γι' αυτό και τα τελευταία χρόνια προσπαθώ - χωρίς να το καταφέρνω πάντα - να μη γίνομαι υπερβολικά σνομπ όταν κάποιος εκθειάζει ένα ορισμένο βιβλίο.

Rosa's story had me hooked, although I loved the book, it had quite a few twists,and turns that I had to re-read some paragraphs.
This added to my enjoyment of the book as the diary and plot kept me guessing,would highly recommended.

I liked the storyline of this but it was a little confusing. Alternating from POV & a diary (that I wasn't sure was fact, fiction or altered) it was hard to keep track & I kept having to reread parts. I also predicted the "big secret" very early.

I had seen this cover on social media, and needless to say I was intrigued so I was delighted to get a review copy.
I had no idea what to expect because the cover literally gives nothing away so when I got it I saw that it was a flip book, in that you read half and then turn it upside down and read from the other cover and then meet in the middle! It was my first book like this, so that in itself was a novelty!
I don’t want go into the plot, because I’m mindful that I may give something away! What I will say though, is the first half of the book was excellent! I was gripped, until I flipped it over. Once I flipped, I found that the story lagged a bit, and even became a bit predictable!
However, it didn’t deter my enjoyment of Find Me. It was an interesting premise, and I was pleasantly surprised to see my hometown as a main characters hometown too as that’s not something I ever come across in books!
Find Me is a thriller, with some very compelling chapters, but at times I found it just fell a little flat when it could have gone the other way! I did enjoy it though and would recommend it if you like psychological thrillers sprinkled with a bit of mystery!

Couldn't get much more than a few pages inside Jar's side of the story before the pace made me decide it wasn't for me.

I received a copy of this book from Head of Zeus in exchange for an honest review.
Jar Garlath has never gotten over the death of his college girlfriend Rosa who was suspected of taking her own life, and her body was never found. Jar is convinced that Rose may still be alive and has a habit of hallucinating her. But when he sees her, clear as day, at a train station, he knows something's up and it sparks a series of events that leads him down a dark and dangerous path as he tries to get to the bottom of what happened to Rosa.
This book was one crazy ride! Right from the very start, which sees Jar spotting Rosa at the train station, I was hooked! There was something about the writing - the desperation and urgency of both Jar's mission to find Rosa and Rosa's sadness over the father's death and what to do next - that really just grabbed me. This whole book just has your whole body one edge and her heart beating that bit faster as you have no idea of what's going to come around the corner. This is helped by short and snappy chapters which make the book a very fast-paced and easy read.
I really liked Jar as a main character. His feelings for Rosa were very genuine as was his grief for her. He was still clinging onto that bit of her, because he had never had closure due to there being no body. So, it was pretty understandable he would still be cut up over her disappearance/death. I did like that he had tried to move on, he did have relations with other girls - just none that stuck. He was also well aware that he had problems considering he was hallucinating Rose. I liked his friendship with Carl (though this book is the type that makes you suspect every character so I was looking at him suspiciously for a while) and how he was able to be open and honest with him about almost everything. It also might sound weird, but Jar was written in such a way that he felt like a writer. I could completely believe that he was capable of creative and emotive writing from how Monroe built his character in the book.
The ending of the book was just insane. As things started to become unwrapped and it became clearer what the truth about Rosa was, I was just transfixed. It got so dark and twisted, my stomach was really turning at points but I couldn't put the book down.
I will say that I really hated reading the parts during this book that discussed animal testing in labs and some past experiments on animals. I am big into cruelty-free products and this was just upsetting for me to read so I found it hard and anyone who is of a similar mind may also find these bits tough to read (there was nothing too descriptive, it was more the point that it was a reminder there are places that still do this kind of thing and that there were experiments on dogs to test out the 'learned helplessness - that that was a real thing and i hated learning that it had actually happened to innocent creatures.)
This book was a great, fast read though and I definitely recommend to people looking for a new thriller.

Jar is a likeable character that believes that his girlfriend Rosa is alive after she supposedly committed suicide and after some new evidence he finds tries to find what happened to her and where she is!
Many threads makes you wonder which theory is correct, is she alive or Jar suffers from severe grief? Who is telling the truth and who is real?
It has a good pace but some passages are tiresome especially when Martin describes the various antidepressants that he was developing and working with and also the various ways of torture for experiments!
The Greek copy has various mistakes that makes the reading less enjoyable!

Θα μπορούσα να μην είχα διαβάσει αυτό το βιβλίο, τουλάχιστον δεν θα είχα τόσο τρομακτικά όνειρα χθες το βράδυ.
Το βιβλίο χωρίζεται σε δυο μέρη με βάση τον συγγραφέα, το πρώτο μέρος ήταν πολύ δυνατό μιας και έδινε την εντύπωση ενός κατασκοπευτικού θρίλερ.
Στην πορεία εξελίχθηκε σε ένα βασανιστικό θρίλερ, κυριολεκτικά.
Διαβάζοντας για όλα αυτά τα πειράματα στα ζωάκια, έκλαιγα και δεν ξέρω πώς το ολοκληρωσα.

Για να προλάβω ό��ους τους λάτρεις των θρίλερ, δεν ήταν τρομακτική ούτε η εξέλιξη των γεγονότων, ούτε η έκβαση αυτών.
Οι περιγραφές, σε μερικές σελίδες, ήταν βάρβαρες και θα μπορούσε να το είχε διαχειριστεί διαφορετικά γιατί υπήρχε καλή προοπτική κρίνοντας από το πρώτο μέρος.
Επιπλέον,το βιβλίο βρίθει πολλών εκφραστικών και, αν θυμάμαι καλά, ορθογραφικών λαθών κάτι το οποίο με προβλημάτισε για τον εκδότη.

Το βιβλίο χωρίζεται σε δυο μέρη με βάση τον συγγραφέα, το πρώτο μέρος ήταν πολύ δυνατό μιας και έδινε την εντύπωση ενός κατασκοπευτικού θρίλερ.
Στην πορεία εξελίχθηκε σε ένα βασανιστικό θρίλερ, κυριολεκτικά.
Διαβάζοντας για όλα αυτά τα πειράματα στα ζωάκια, έκλαιγα και δεν ξέρω πώς το ολοκληρωσα.

Παίρνοντας στα χέρια μου το "Βρες με" και διαβάζοντας την περίληψή του, η πρώτη μου σκέψη ήταν: Ξέρω τι να περιμένω! Έχοντας διαβάσει αμέτρητα, πλέον, αστυνομικά και θρίλερ μυθιστορήματα, μπορώ να πω πως βρίσκομαι σε ένα αρκετά καλό επίπεδο εκτίμησης καταστάσεων όταν αυτές μου παρουσιάζονται για να τις αναλύσω. Και όμως, το συγκεκριμένο βιβλίο αποδείχθηκε κάτι αρκετά διαφορετικό απ' αυτό που περίμενα, μια ιδιαίτερα ευχάριστη και ανατρεπτική έκπληξη, παρουσιάζοντας μια ιστορία που με μια πρώτη ματιά φαντάζει αρκετά κοινότυπη και προβλέψιμη, με έναν τρόπο διαφορετικό, σαφέστατα πιο τολμηρό απ' ό,τι θα περίμενε κανείς, και με μια συνολική προσέγγιση, αφηγηματικά και δραματουργικά, πολύ πιο έντονη απ' όσο θα φανταζόμασταν.
Η Ρόζα, αριστούχος φοιτήτρια του Κέιμπριτζ, με ένα ολόλαμπρο μέλλον να ανοίγεται μπροστά της, μην μπορώντας να διαχειριστεί τον θάνατο του πατέρα της, αποφασίζει να δώσει τέλος στη ζωή της. Τουλάχιστον, όλα τα στοιχεία αυτό μαρτυρούν, αφού η ίδια ήταν που έπεσε στα φουρτουνιασμένα νερά της θάλασσας, με τον ιατροδικαστή να επιβεβαιώνει πως πρόκειται για αυτοκτονία, μην αφήνοντας περιθώρια αμφισβήτησης. Ωστόσο, υπάρχει κάποιος που αρνείται να το πιστέψει, έστω κι αν έχουν περάσει πέντε χρόνια από εκείνη τη μοιραία μέρα, και αυτός δεν είναι άλλος από τον τότε σύντροφό της, Τζαρ, που όχι μόνο δεν μπορεί να τη βγάλει από το μυαλό του, αλλά νομίζει πως την βλέπει παντού, στο δρόμο, στο τρένο, όπου κι αν κοιτάξει. Βαθιά μέσα του πιστεύει πως η Ρόζα είναι ακόμα ζωντανή και αυτό είναι που θέλει να αποδείξει, ό,τι κι αν χρειαστεί να κάνει. Μέχρι τη μέρα που λαμβάνει ένα email που θα σημάνει την αρχή του τέλους του προσωπικού του δράματος και θα αλλάξει τη ζωή του για πάντα.
Το πρώτο θετικό στοιχείο που πρέπει να αναγνωρίσουμε στο βιβλίο αυτό, δεν είναι άλλο από την καλοδουλεμένη του πρόζα. Ο Monroe την έχει δομήσει με τέτοιον τρόπο που ο ρυθμός αυτής είναι σταθερά δυνατός και έντονος, χωρίς να χάνει τη δυναμική του ούτε για μια στιγμή, ενώ η πλοκή, όπως και η αφήγηση αυτής, είναι σφιχτοδεμένη και άρτια, οδηγώντας σε μια σταδιακή αποδόμηση όλων αυτών που νομίζουμε πως βλέπουμε ξεκάθαρα, αλλά που κάτω από την επιφάνειά τους υπάρχουν πράγματα, στοιχεία και δεδομένα που πρέπει να παρατηρήσουμε πολύ προσεκτικά για να τα διακρίνουμε και από εκεί, να τα επεξεργαστούμε και να τα κατανοήσουμε. Και όταν το κάνουμε, δεν μπορούμε παρά να αισθανθούμε ρίγος και ανατριχίλα, να σοκαριστούμε, ίσως και να νιώσουμε μια κάποια ενόχληση, τόσο σε προσωπικό ηθικό επίπεδο, όσο και ως μέλη ενός κοινωνικού συνόλου που σε μεγάλο βαθμό αρέσκεται στο να βρίσκει ικανοποίηση μέσα από το σεξ, τη βία, την ανθρώπινη εκμετάλλευση.
Η αφήγηση είναι πολυπρόσωπη -μέσω του Τζαρ και της φωνής της Ρόζας, έτσι όπως αυτή αποτυπώθηκε στο ημερολόγιό της-, κάτι που μας επιτρέπει να έχουμε μια απόλυτα ολοκληρωμένη εικόνα της κατάστασης και της πολυπλοκότητας αυτής, των διαφορετικών οπτικών της, ανάλογα από ποιο πρίσμα επιλέγεις να την δεις, να την αναλύσεις και τελικά να την αξιολογήσεις, μα και των συναισθηματικών κλιμακώσεων των εμπλεκόμενων σε αυτή την υπόθεση. Ίσως η αφήγηση να σας μπερδέψει, σε σχέση με τις καταχωρήσεις στο ημερολόγιο της Ρόζας, χρονολογικά, αν όμως είστε αρκετά συγκεντρωμένοι, κάτι τέτοιο δεν θα αποτελέσει πρόβλημα αλλά αντίθετα θα σας βάλει ακόμα πιο βαθιά μέσα στην ιστορία. Οι χαρακτήρες, όπως και η πλοκή, είναι εξίσου άρτια δομημένοι και τα ψυχογραφήματά τους είναι απόλυτα ολοκληρωμένα και κατανοητά, με κάθε σκέψη, συναίσθημα και πράξη τους να δικαιολογείται, όχι απαραίτητα επειδή συμφωνούμε μαζί τους, αλλά γιατί κατανοούμε και σεβόμαστε την δικιά τους αλήθεια, ενώ παράλληλα ερχόμαστε πιο κοντά τους, μέσω της αφήγησης, γεγονός που μας επιτρέπει να ταυτιστούμε αν όχι με τις αποφάσεις τους, με το προσωπικό τους δράμα, σε μεγάλο βαθμό, σε ανθρώπινο και όχι μόνο επίπεδο.
Διαβάζοντας το "Βρες με", πάρα πολλές σκέψεις θα περάσουν από το μυαλό σας και άλλα τόσο ερωτήματα θα γεννηθούν μέσα σας, τα οποία θα τροφοδοτούνται από μια συνεχής αμφιβολία και μια αμφισβήτηση των πάντων. Όλοι φαντάζουν αθώοι και όλοι φαντάζουν ένοχοι, την ίδια ακριβώς στιγμή. Όλα φαίνονται λογικά και πως εξηγούνται απλά και εύκολα, όμως είναι έτσι, ή κάτω από την επιφανειακή αλήθεια βρίσκεται κάτι άλλο, πολύ πιο βαθύ, τρομακτικό και δύσκολα διαχειρίσιμο; Η ιστορία έχει πολλές ανατροπές, πολλές εκπλήξεις και σίγουρα σε καθηλώνει από την πρώτη μέχρι και την τελευταία του σελίδα, όπου μονάχα τότε έχεις την πραγματική εικόνα της κατάστασης και δεν μπορείς να κάνεις τίποτα άλλο από το να μείνεις με το στόμα ανοιχτό. Παράλληλα, είναι μια κοινωνική ανάλυση του πως διαχειρίζεται -ή αδυνατεί να το κάνει- κανείς το πένθος και όλη τη θλίψη που αυτό επιφέρει, τροφοδοτώντας τον συναισθηματικό παράγοντα με θεωρίες συνωμοσίας που οδηγούν σε ένα κράμα που θυμίζει κάτι από Fitzek, μια "σχολή" που είτε αγαπάς είτε μισείς. Και όσον αφορά εμένα, την αγαπώ και τη συστήνω, όπως ακριβώς και το "Βρες με".

Η Ρόζα Σάντχοου, νέα ακόμη φοιτήτρια στο Κέιμπριτζ, βουτάει στα νερά του Κρόμερ, στις ακτές της Κορνουάλης κι εξαφανίζεται. Όλοι πιστεύουν πως πρόκειται για αυτοκτονία, από κατάθλιψη λόγω του πρόσφατου θανάτου του πατέρα της, ο σύντροφός της, Τζαρ, όμως, εδώ και πέντε χρόνια κάνει τις δικές του έρευνες, πεπεισμένος πως κάτι άλλο έχει συμβεί. Γιατί ο Τζαρ έχει την αίσθηση πως είναι ακόμη ζωντανή; Τον παρακολουθούν όντως κάποιοι ή είναι ιδέα του; Πώς βρέθηκε το ημερολόγιο της Ρόζας στα χέρια του και γιατί είναι κρυπτογραφημένο; Γιατί ξαφνικά η κοπέλα αυτή αρχίζει να του στέλνει mail με την παράκληση να τη βρει πριν από αυτούς;
Πρόκειται για μια συναρπαστική ιστορία μυστηρίου που οδηγεί τον αναγνώστη σε συγκεκριμένες υποψίες και μια μονόδρομη κατεύθυνση, μόνο και μόνο για να τινάξει ξαφνικά τα πάντα στον αέρα και να ανεβάσει την ένταση και το σασπένς στα ύψη. Η καλογραμμένη πορεία ερευνών, το παρελθόν της Ρόζας που ζωντανεύει μέσα από το ημερολόγιό της και ο Τζαρ, που ζει απίστευτες περιπέτειες, μπλεγμένος ως εκεί που δεν πάει σε αυτήν την υπόθεση, δίνουν ποικιλία στην αφήγηση και δε με άφησαν σε ησυχία ούτε λεπτό. Στο πρώτο μέρος έχουμε τη φοιτητική ζωή της κοπέλας από το χειμερινό εξάμηνο του 2011 ως το θερινό τρίμηνο του 2012, που περιγράφει τα γεγονότα εν είδει ημερήσιων καταγραφών, και η γραφή της ακροβατεί ανάμεσα στο κωμικό, με πολλά αστεία και προκλητικά περιστατικά από την ανέμελη (;) φοιτητική ζωή στο Κέιμπριτζ, δηλαδή μπιροποσίες και χαπάκια ecstasy, φωτιά στα μαλλιά με σαμπούκα και ολονύχτια πάρτι («Κανείς δεν θέλει να μείνει μόνος του, ειδικά την πρώτη χρονιά», σελ. 80), το μελαγχολικό, με τις αναμνήσεις από την ευτυχισμένη ζωή με τον πατέρα της ως το μοιραίο τροχαίο ατύχημα που τους χώρισε για πάντα, ως το ρομαντικό, με τον Τζαρ και τις φάσεις που περνάει η σχέση τους ως την εξαφάνισή της.
Το οικογενειακό υπόβαθρο της κοπέλας είναι εξίσου καλά μελετημένο. Ο πατέρας της Ρόζας εργαζόταν στο Πολιτικό Τμήμα του Υπουργείου Εξωτερικών κι έτσι τον έστελναν σε πρεσβείες σε όλο τον κόσμο για να συντάξει αναφορές. Η Ρόζα νιώθει πως η καριέρα του βάλτωσε εξαιτίας της, γιατί ήθελε να περνάει περισσότερο χρόνο μαζί της. Η μητέρα της είχε αυτοκτονήσει λόγω επιλόχειας κατάθλιψης ένα χρόνο αφού τη γέννησε κι έτσι ο δεσμός των δυο τους ήταν άρρηκτος. Η αδερφή του πατέρα της, Έιμι, μένει με τον άντρα της, Μάρτιν, στον τόπο όπου έγινε το μοιραίο κι είναι μια γυναίκα που ακροβατεί ανάμεσα στην πραγματικότητα και τον εθισμό των ηρεμιστικών χαπιών.
Πέντε χρόνια μετά από εκείνη τη βραδιά, ο Τζαρλαθ Κοστέλο, βραβευμένος νεαρός Ιρλανδός συγγραφέας που ξέπεσε να αρθρογραφεί για ποπ είδωλα της μουσικής σκηνής σε καλλιτεχνική ιστοσελίδα, έχει ακόμα το προαίσθημα πως η Ρόζα ζει, κάτι που το εντείνει η ψευδαίσθηση πως τη βλέπει παντού στον δρόμ��. Όταν το εξομολογείται στον Καρλ, τον μοναδικό σύμμαχό του στο γραφείο, εκείνος δεν τον πιστεύει και τον παραπέμπει σε μια καλή ψυχοθεραπεύτρια. Αυτή είναι η αφορμή στη συγγραφέα να εκφραστεί ειρωνικά απέναντι σε αυτό το σημαντικό, κατά τα άλλα, κομμάτι της ζωής μας: «Σκέφτεται όλους εκείνους που έχουν καθίσει σε αυτά τα δωμάτια, ξεφορτώνοντας τα προβλήματά τους για μία ώρα προτού τα πάρουν ξανά μαζί τους και στη συνέχεια βγουν στον δρόμο» (σελ. 86). Στο διαμέρισμα του Τζαρ όλα δείχνουν πως την ξεπέρασε, σε μια αποθήκη όμως έχει στήσει ολόκληρα επιχειρησιακά σχέδια για να την εντοπίσει και να ερευνήσει τις συνθήκες θανάτου της.
Η αφήγηση σε ενεστώτα διαρκείας δίνει ένταση και δημιουργεί τις κατάλληλες συνθήκες για επιπλέον αγωνία και φρενήρες γύρισμα σελίδων. Το διπλωματικό παρελθόν του πατέρα της Ρόζας σύντομα στρέφει τον νεαρό σε μονοπάτια που τον μπλέκουν με τις Μυστικές Υπηρεσίες και τον Σκοτεινό Ιστό, χωρίς ούτε στιγμή να φτάνουμε στην υπερβολή ή σε επίπεδο πεπερασμένων κατασκοπικών μυθιστορημάτων. Αντίθετα, η μαεστρία του χειρισμού της πλοκής με προετοίμαζε για ένα αντίστοιχο τέλος, που ειλικρινά δε θα μ’ άρεσε, μιας και δεν πολυσυμπαθώ τέτοιου είδους βιβλία, αν και η τακτική αναφορά του Τζων Λε Καρέ στο κείμενο, με τον πράκτορα Σμάιλι να μας κλείνει το μάτι, ήταν ένας διακεκριμένος φόρος τιμής σε κάτι ξεχωριστό στο είδος του, στο δεύτερο μέρος όμως, όπως προείπα, ένα αναπάντεχο πρόσωπο παρεμβαίνει στην αφήγηση, αρχίζοντας έτσι να χτίζει σωστά το οικοδόμημα που ετοιμάστηκε πριν αλλά με κεράμους και πλίνθους ατάκτως ερριμμένους.
Δυστυχώς, η εξέλιξη των γεγονότων και ο πραγματικός λόγος εξαφάνισης της Ρόζας με αποτρέπουν να γράψω το παραμικρό συναίσθημα που προέκυψε από αυτά, γιατί είναι κρίμα έστω και μία λέξη να χαλάσει τη μαγεία των εκπλήξεων που περιμένουν τον αναγνώστη. Η κεντρική ιδέα λοιπόν για την οποία γίνονται όλα αυτά είναι πολύ καλή και ταυτόχρονα απάνθρωπη, από ψυχολογικής σκοπιάς, με όλες τις απαραίτητες λεπτομέρειες να παρατίθενται μπροστά μου και να με ανατριχιάζουν ως το μεδούλι. Ίσως αυτή ακριβώς η «εμμονή» να απωθήσει πολλούς αναγνώστες κι είναι κρίμα, γιατί προσπέρασα αυτές τις λεπτομέρειες χωρίς να έχω χάσει τον ειρμό της πλοκής, άρα… Οι τρόποι αφήγησης αλλάζουν, η αλήθεια έρχεται όλο και πιο κοντά, ο Τζαρ αρχίζει να συνδέει τα κομμάτια του παζλ και η τελική αποκάλυψη με γέμισε συμπόνια και οίκτο.
Το «Βρες με» είναι ένα καλογραμμένο θρίλερ, με παραστατικούς και δωρικούς διαλόγους, γρήγορες σκηνές, λιτές περιγραφές, αναπάντεχες εξελίξεις, ρεαλισμό και συναισθήματα. Είναι ένα ανθρωποκυνηγητό σε μονοπάτια απάτητα για το ευρύ κοινό και ταυτόχρονα αρκετά επικίνδυνα για όποιον κάνει αυτήν την απερισκεψία. Το μυστικό εξαφάνισης της Ρόζας αποκαλύπτει πολλά πράγματα για τις απάνθρωπες μεθόδους ανάκρισης που δε διστάζει κάποιος να εφαρμόσει σ’ έναν άνθρωπο και φροντίζει να διαλύσει για πάντα το τζάμι προφύλαξης από τα πειράματα σε κρυμμένα εργαστήρια. Αγωνία, ένταση, σωστά δοσμένοι χαρακτήρες, πειστικότητα και εκπλήξεις με κράτησαν ως το τέλος και με ξενύχτησαν.
Πρόκειται για μια συναρπαστική ιστορία μυστηρίου που οδηγεί τον αναγνώστη σε συγκεκριμένες υποψίες και μια μονόδρομη κατεύθυνση, μόνο και μόνο για να τινάξει ξαφνικά τα πάντα στον αέρα και να ανεβάσει την ένταση και το σασπένς στα ύψη. Η καλογραμμένη πορεία ερευνών, το παρελθόν της Ρόζας που ζωντανεύει μέσα από το ημερολόγιό της και ο Τζαρ, που ζει απίστευτες περιπέτειες, μπλεγμένος ως εκεί που δεν πάει σε αυτήν την υπόθεση, δίνουν ποικιλία στην αφήγηση και δε με άφησαν σε ησυχία ούτε λεπτό. Στο πρώτο μέρος έχουμε τη φοιτητική ζωή της κοπέλας από το χειμερινό εξάμηνο του 2011 ως το θερινό τρίμηνο του 2012, που περιγράφει τα γεγονότα εν είδει ημερήσιων καταγραφών, και η γραφή της ακροβατεί ανάμεσα στο κωμικό, με πολλά αστεία και προκλητικά περιστατικά από την ανέμελη (;) φοιτητική ζωή στο Κέιμπριτζ, δηλαδή μπιροποσίες και χαπάκια ecstasy, φωτιά στα μαλλιά με σαμπούκα και ολονύχτια πάρτι («Κανείς δεν θέλει να μείνει μόνος του, ειδικά την πρώτη χρονιά», σελ. 80), το μελαγχολικό, με τις αναμνήσεις από την ευτυχισμένη ζωή με τον πατέρα της ως το μοιραίο τροχαίο ατύχημα που τους χώρισε για πάντα, ως το ρομαντικό, με τον Τζαρ και τις φάσεις που περνάει η σχέση τους ως την εξαφάνισή της.
Το οικογενειακό υπόβαθρο της κοπέλας είναι εξίσου καλά μελετημένο. Ο πατέρας της Ρόζας εργαζόταν στο Πολιτικό Τμήμα του Υπουργείου Εξωτερικών κι έτσι τον έστελναν σε πρεσβείες σε όλο τον κόσμο για να συντάξει αναφορές. Η Ρόζα νιώθει πως η καριέρα του βάλτωσε εξαιτίας της, γιατί ήθελε να περνάει περισσότερο χρόνο μαζί της. Η μητέρα της είχε αυτοκτονήσει λόγω επιλόχειας κατάθλιψης ένα χρόνο αφού τη γέννησε κι έτσι ο δεσμός των δυο τους ήταν άρρηκτος. Η αδερφή του πατέρα της, Έιμι, μένει με τον άντρα της, Μάρτιν, στον τόπο όπου έγινε το μοιραίο κι είναι μια γυναίκα που ακροβατεί ανάμεσα στην πραγματικότητα και τον εθισμό των ηρεμιστικών χαπιών.
Πέντε χρόνια μετά από εκείνη τη βραδιά, ο Τζαρλαθ Κοστέλο, βραβευμένος νεαρός Ιρλανδός συγγραφέας που ξέπεσε να αρθρογραφεί για ποπ είδωλα της μουσικής σκηνής σε καλλιτεχνική ιστοσελίδα, έχει ακόμα το προαίσθημα πως η Ρόζα ζει, κάτι που το εντείνει η ψευδαίσθηση πως τη βλέπει παντού στον δρόμ��. Όταν το εξομολογείται στον Καρλ, τον μοναδικό σύμμαχό του στο γραφείο, εκείνος δεν τον πιστεύει και τον παραπέμπει σε μια καλή ψυχοθεραπεύτρια. Αυτή είναι η αφορμή στη συγγραφέα να εκφραστεί ειρωνικά απέναντι σε αυτό το σημαντικό, κατά τα άλλα, κομμάτι της ζωής μας: «Σκέφτεται όλους εκείνους που έχουν καθίσει σε αυτά τα δωμάτια, ξεφορτώνοντας τα προβλήματά τους για μία ώρα προτού τα πάρουν ξανά μαζί τους και στη συνέχεια βγουν στον δρόμο» (σελ. 86). Στο διαμέρισμα του Τζαρ όλα δείχνουν πως την ξεπέρασε, σε μια αποθήκη όμως έχει στήσει ολόκληρα επιχειρησιακά σχέδια για να την εντοπίσει και να ερευνήσει τις συνθήκες θανάτου της.
Η αφήγηση σε ενεστώτα διαρκείας δίνει ένταση και δημιουργεί τις κατάλληλες συνθήκες για επιπλέον αγωνία και φρενήρες γύρισμα σελίδων. Το διπλωματικό παρελθόν του πατέρα της Ρόζας σύντομα στρέφει τον νεαρό σε μονοπάτια που τον μπλέκουν με τις Μυστικές Υπηρεσίες και τον Σκοτεινό Ιστό, χωρίς ούτε στιγμή να φτάνουμε στην υπερβολή ή σε επίπεδο πεπερασμένων κατασκοπικών μυθιστορημάτων. Αντίθετα, η μαεστρία του χειρισμού της πλοκής με προετοίμαζε για ένα αντίστοιχο τέλος, που ειλικρινά δε θα μ’ άρεσε, μιας και δεν πολυσυμπαθώ τέτοιου είδους βιβλία, αν και η τακτική αναφορά του Τζων Λε Καρέ στο κείμενο, με τον πράκτορα Σμάιλι να μας κλείνει το μάτι, ήταν ένας διακεκριμένος φόρος τιμής σε κάτι ξεχωριστό στο είδος του, στο δεύτερο μέρος όμως, όπως προείπα, ένα αναπάντεχο πρόσωπο παρεμβαίνει στην αφήγηση, αρχίζοντας έτσι να χτίζει σωστά το οικοδόμημα που ετοιμάστηκε πριν αλλά με κεράμους και πλίνθους ατάκτως ερριμμένους.
Δυστυχώς, η εξέλιξη των γεγονότων και ο πραγματικός λόγος εξαφάνισης της Ρόζας με αποτρέπουν να γράψω το παραμικρό συναίσθημα που προέκυψε από αυτά, γιατί είναι κρίμα έστω και μία λέξη να χαλάσει τη μαγεία των εκπλήξεων που περιμένουν τον αναγνώστη. Η κεντρική ιδέα λοιπόν για την οποία γίνονται όλα αυτά είναι πολύ καλή και ταυτόχρονα απάνθρωπη, από ψυχολογικής σκοπιάς, με όλες τις απαραίτητες λεπτομέρειες να παρατίθενται μπροστά μου και να με ανατριχιάζουν ως το μεδούλι. Libro de intriga, donde el protagonista, Jar, intenta encontrar a su novia de la universidad, Rosa, que se suicidó 5 años antes, pero que él no cree. La narración, en forma de diferentes diarios, nos permite conocer tanto a los protagonistas, como al resto de personajes, desde el punto de vista de quién está escribiendo.
Inicialmente solo hay dos diarios, que se van alternando: el de Jar, en el momento actual, que más que un diario es la narración en primera persona de lo que va sucediendo y nos explica como vive, lo que aún siente por Rosa, su negación a aceptar su muerte y las aluciones en las que la ve; y el diario de Rosa de los meses anteriores a su muerte, encontrado por su tía recientemente, en el que ella explica como sufrió tras la muerte de su padre, como conoció a Jar, y otras cosas...
Poco a poco, van apareciendo, alternando con esos, otros diarios, otros personajes, con lo que paulatinamente y tomados en conjunto, acaban por dar a Jar la explicación de todo lo que realmente sucedió.
Me han gustado, tanto los personajes, totalmente creíbles, sobre todo Jar; como la trama, aunque he de decir que el final está un poco sobredimensionado.

Encontra-me é o primeiro livro do autor inglês Jon Stock com o pseudónimo J.S. Monroe, e também o seu primeiro dentro do thriller, depois de vários livros de espionagem. Jar é um escritor irlandês a viver em Londres que não se conforma com a morte da sua namorada Rosa, há cinco anos: aparentemente, ela cometeu suicídio, atirando-se de um penhasco, mas o corpo nunca foi encontrado. Jar vê-a por todo o lado e julga tratarem-se de aparições, mas serão mesmo? No início do livro, Amy – uma tia de Rosa – entrega a Jar um disco de computador onde Rosa guardou o seu diário digital e, à medida que as entradas vão sendo desincriptadas, Jar e o leitor vão regressando ao passado e ficando a par da época em que Rosa entrou para a faculdade, quando conheceu Jar e mesmo antes de o seu pai ter morrido.
As duas perspetivas – o diário de Rosa, no passado, e os acontecimentos presentes, na perspetiva de Jar – vão sendo intercaladas à medida que a narrativa avança, oferecendo constantemente ao leitor a sensação de teoria da conspiração. O próprio título do livro, Encontra-me, dá a isso a entender: que Rosa não morreu, na realidade, e que existe algo muito maior do que as personagens principais, que desejou “matar” Rosa e que ela permaneça “morta”. O artifício narrativo da personagem pouco fiável foi uma ideia que me ocorreu a partir de determinada altura, mas terão de ler o livro para perceber se estava certa ou errada.
A curiosidade para saber o que de facto aconteceu a Rosa e como toda a situação se irá resolver faz com que a leitura avance, ainda que não considere que estejamos perante um page-turner, mas antes um livro que leva o seu tempo a desenvolver o enredo e as suas personagens. Tenho de confessar que nem sempre manteve o meu interesse em alta, uma vez que tem momentos que parecem arrastar-se um pouco e não contribuir muito para o avanço da história.
Alguns dos temas deste livro, que ultrapassam um pouco as margens do thriller, são o abuso físico e psicológico, bem como a capacidade de ultrapassar traumas e prosseguir com a nossa vida. Penso que o autor os explora de forma interessante, com a centelha da esperança sempre presente. No final de contas, Encontra-me revelou-se um thriller interessante; sem ser especialmente inovador ou originador de uma leitura ávida, suscita a curiosidade do leitor no desenlace do enredo, que acaba por revelar-se satisfatório.

Porządny thriller to jest właśnie to, co lubię najbardziej! "Znajdź mnie" spokojnie można zaliczyć do tej kategorii. O co chodzi? Dziewczyna Jara popełnia samobójstwo (czy aby na pewno?), chłopak nie chce tego przyjąć do wiadomości, cały czas wydaje mu się, że wszędzie widzi Rosę, w końcu zaczyna otrzymywać sygnały świadczące o tym, że wcale nie oszalał, a jego ukochana rzeczywiście może być jeszcze wśród żywych.
Już po przeczytaniu pierwszych rozdziałów wiedziałam, że będzie nieźle! Z wielką przyjemnością i rosnącym zainteresowaniem wybrałam się na poszukiwanie Rosy Sandhoe. A pytania się mnożą: czy dziewczyna została porwana, zwerbowana do wywiadu, a może rzeczywiście rzuciła się do oceanu? Dodajcie do tego mrożące krew w żyłach opisy tortur i zakończenie, po przeczytaniu którego człowiek mówi sobie "COOO?" i jeszcze raz musi zerknąć na 3 ostatnie strony, żeby przekonać się, czy rzeczywiście wszystko dobrze zrozumiał. "Znajdź mnie" to historia dobrze napisana, wciągająca i trzymająca w napięciu. Zachęcam, żeby się z nią zapoznać.

Okay to start with, this book was great! :)
I never saw what was going to happen and I certainly didn't guess the ending. When reading this book, It was so good I had trouble putting it down. Which to many people should be a good thing and I was one of those people. This book left me wanting more everytime I tried putting it down and it definitely left me with plenty of questions thatI was eager to find out.
However, some parts in the story was in my opinon, very disturbing and I was not a fan. If you have read the book you will know what I am talking about.
On the other hand the writing was good and allowed me to instantly know what was happening in the story.
This is the first J S Monroe book that I have ever read and I am going to be honesty and say that I really did enjoy it. It left me feeling all the feels throughout the book, hate, anger, sadness, happines etc.
This book was a compelling thriller with relatively short chapters here and there and a urge to wanting more.

Ο Βρετανός συγγραφέας και δημοσιογράφος Jon Stock (το J.S.Monroe είναι ψευδώνυμο), έχοντας ασχοληθεί εκτενώς με μυστικές υπηρεσίες, γράφει ένα ψυχολογικό θρίλερ με μια δόση μετεφηβικης αγάπης. Δεν ξέρω αν το πήγαινε προς κατασκοπικο θρίλερ και δεν βγήκε (κολλημένος με τον Λε Καρέ, που αναφέρεται αρκετά), ευτυχώς όμως γιατί αυτό το κομμάτι (που υπάρχει) όσο το διάβαζα μου φαινόταν παρατραβηγμενο, του τύπου πήρα θεωρίες συνωμοσίας και τις έκανα βιβλίο. Τελικά έτσι όπως το πλάθει, το μυστήριο υπάρχει και το αποτέλεσμα/κίνητρο ας το πω, φαίνεται πιο αληθοφανές. Αληθοφανές λέγοντας, δεν εννοώ πως είναι μια καθημερινή ιστορία, παρατραβηγμενη την λες και μάλιστα με μικρά κενά (θυμηθείτε το κινητό που πέφτει από τον γκρεμό όταν το διαβάσετε).
Καταφέρνει να μας θυμίσει πως νιώθεις, τι σκέφτεσαι, πως γράφεις όταν είσαι ερωτευμένος στα 20+ χωρίς να στάζουν τα μέλια, και πόσο καλά υποκρινομασταν στην εφηβεία, είτε είχαμε κατάθλιψη, είτε ζούσαμε μια απώλεια...
Βρήκα πολύ ενδιαφέρον το ότι στο πρώτο μισό διαβάζουμε κομμάτια από το παρελθόν μέσα από το ημερολόγιο της Ρόζας, και στο δεύτερο μισό κομμάτια άλλου ημερολογίου που σιγά σιγά μας δίνει τις απαντήσεις. Το τότε και το τώρα είναι ξεκάθαρα και δεν μπερδεύει καθόλου.
Αλλά... κατά την γνώμη μου (πάντα) και μιλώντας λαϊκά, το κουράζει. Κομμάτια του ημερολογίου πετάγονται στο άσχετο, κι ενώ μερικές φορές υπάρχει λόγος κι άλλες είναι γοητευτικό, κάποιες είναι ανούσιο. Θα μπορουσε να μπει πιο γρήγορα στο ψητό και μέσω της εξιστόρησης του παρελθόντος και όταν επιστρέφει στην πλοκή του τώρα. Αναφέροντας λεπτομέρειες που θα μπορούσαν να λείπουν, συζητήσεις/διαλόγους που πάνω κάτω οι ίδιες πληροφορίες δίνονται, κάνει μικρές κοιλιτσες εδώ κι εκεί τουλάχιστον στα 2/3 του βιβλίου, το τελευταίο τρίτο είναι πιο γρήγορο. Ενιωσα πως βιάζει το μυστήριο χωρίς λόγο. Θεωρώ ότι 100-150 σελίδες λιγότερες θα το έκαναν πιο ενδιαφέρον και γρήγορο.
Όμως διαβάζεται εύκολα, γράφει στρωτά, έχει διαλόγους ρεαλιστικούς σύμφωνα με την ηλικία που "μιλάει" ο κάθε ένας, ωραία ψυχογραφηματα, παίζει με τα ονόματα από την αρχή και υποψιαζει τον αναγνώστη, μπερδεύει ευχάριστα με το τι είναι φανταστικό και τι αληθινό και φλερτάρει πολύ με την ανάγκη/φιλοδοξία για συγγραφή που έχουν οι ήρωες, κάτι που μ αρέσει στα βιβλία!

Όμως διαβάζεται εύκολα, γράφει στρωτά, έχει διαλόγους ρεαλιστικούς σύμφωνα με την ηλικία που "μιλάει" ο κάθε ένας, ωραία ψυχογραφηματα, παίζει με τα ονόματα από την αρχή και υποψιαζει τον αναγνώστη, μπερδεύει ευχάριστα με το τι είναι φανταστικό και τι αληθινό και φλερτάρει πολύ με την ανάγκη/φιλοδοξία για συγγραφή που έχουν οι ήρωες, κάτι που μ αρέσει στα βιβλία!

Even five years after the suicide of his girlfriend, Rosa, Jar still has post-bereavement hallucinations of her - seeing her in various places, having calls with her late at night. He believes these are all signs that she is still alive out there somewhere. He knows this can't be, but then he receives a message from Rosa's aunt saying she's found Rosa's diary and she needs him to read it. This only increases his obsession with Rosa and he plummets into an underworld where nothing is as it seems and the terrifying conclusion is nothing that he would have thought possible.
The story is told from various points of view - mainly Jar's as we teeter back and forth between past and present. How they met, her erratic behavior, their experiences and his thoughts after she leaves him a suicide note in her draft folder of her email. We see through her eyes how she wants to open up to him but can't as she's still dealing with the death of her father, too. Part two is where it gets a little confusing as we start to look through some other character's eyes and the back and forth from past to present gets a little muddled. While a fairly somber book, I did start to lose interest in the middle, which is why this is only a 4 star rating compared to the 5 star I would've given it because THAT ENDING - when it all comes together, it all makes sense and it's impressive how the author slow burns you right up to the last few chapters. For my own personal interests, I was completely enthralled with the subject matter so that ending really made the whole book for me. Understand that it's a bit of a slow burn with a somber vibe, but I highly recommend you give this book a chance.

Find Me is a great psychological thriller! I don’t want to give any more detail than what is provided in the blurb, but I will say that I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I found Monroe’s take on this premise to be quite captivating. I was completely fascinated with the conspiracy theories and psychological references that he included within the story. Nothing was as I expected it to be and had me guessing the entire way through.
