The Houston family can't believe their luck when they stumble upon a beautiful piano at a low price. Their delight soon turns to horror when the piano comes to life. The melodies that it plays over and over again are eerie and it becomes clear that someone from the past has a message for them.
I bought this book at the dollar store, not quite knowing what it was. It’s essentially a reprint of an older Goosebumps ‘knockoff’ (so to speak), and I didn’t have high expectations upon first glance. Whilst some issues i predicted shone through, I was pleasantly surprise by this story. The story is actually decent and I like the sweet ending about what was actually happening. The characters were okay, there was some touching moments, and I really liked the side themes, like moving away from home. It’s good. But the writing is particularly weak, with some grammar mistakes and misuse of commas and past/present/future tense. The piano isn’t remotely scary and is pretty bland minus the big reveal, and the pacing is rough. But yeah, it’s okay. 7.5/10.
It's not every day that you get a haunted piano story. I thought it was decent, and the mystery surrounding it was gripping enough, but the end result seems off. I can't be the only one who sees it. The ending kind of doesn't make sense. It does, but there's literally a mistake in the timing of certain things that could be undone with a quick touch up.
This book wasn’t really scary as I thought it would be it was a fun read though and I thought it was kind of sad more than scary the ending is kind of short and it makes you want to know if there is more going on.
I was checking how scary this is for my 3rd grader. It’s not good. Not scary and not a bit believable-what kid that’s scared of a self playing piano will keep practicing on it?
"GOOSEBUMPS"ish...a very quick read, but the writing is kind of wonky and definitely feels like it was being made up as it was being written, if that makes sense? It also has a VERY abrupt ending.
2.5 ⭐️ Look I didn't want to be too harsh cause this is a kids book, but even so it's still pretty bad 😅. It's not scary at all, the plot barely existant and it just ends and I'm like thats it??? And i have read many kids and middle grade books that are fabulous! If this is supposed to mirror goosebumps writing wise it doesn't compare. Im a grown woman but give me a goosebump book and I'll be thoroughly entertained and creeped out. How am I supposed to be scared when the CHARACTERS aren't even scared. How are we so non-chalant about a HAUNTED PIANO 😒😑🤨🥱😫 Wouldn't recommend even for a quick read
First I thought the series was meant, as same characters, so far, is just series as in Creep stories. But same review. It doesnt built on, is like a "Wait, what? Why does everyone act like Oh yeah, whatevs, lets just respond to this paranormal event" There is no real reasoning to make you believe the story, which is a good story.
I found this book and several more from the series at my local dollar store. They reminded me of my childhood favorite, Goosebumps, so I picked them up. The new covers are pretty cool, and I like the illustrations inside. Gonna read them for fun this spooky season! I won't bother rating them because they are for kids.
When Roger and Emily buy a beautiful piano for £200 their children Victoria and Darren are thrilled. When it starts playing by itself they are all initially scared but after some investigation it seems a woman from their past is trying to send a message. Not all hauntings are meant to scare sometimes they are to protect!
This book is yawn-inhibiting slow. There are multiple mistakes throughout, to the point where it seems to be more of a rough draft than a final masterpiece. Even the chapters are incorrect (I’m sure counting can’t be THAT difficult!). Not so sure I want to read the rest of the series now 😒
Probably one of the dafter entries in the series. The plot doesn't make much sense but the behaviour of the characters makes even less sense. Why would you keep a piano in your house if you think it's haunted?
Picked up all 5 books from Dollar Tree recently and started with this first. It's not very scary even for the characters in the book. The story ends pretty suddenly and didn't make much sense. Good for a quick and easy read.
When I got to the last page and was about to turn it I thought “ how are they going to end this in 10 more pages?” Not that interesting and didn’t really have an ending or a cliff hanger of any kind (you don’t need one just saying if they didn’t have an ending why not at least a cliff hanger?)
Due to scheduling it took me a while to finish, but basically the family of the Houston’s they bought a piano for their daughter from a store they found during their pit stop, and when they got the piano weird thing happened and only the child mostly noticed it in comparison to the adults.
I got this from dollar tree because I just wanted something easy and spooky which is what I got minus the spooky part. not scary at all in the slightest to me but still a cute fun time for what it was.
Abrupt ending that served as a poor conclusion. The story was mediocre. I was expecting something like Goosebumps, but found this book to be much briefer, less developed, and overall a lower quality of writing.
It is evident that this is the first one in the series as the writing isn’t very good and the plot is very thin. The author definitely improves as the series goes along, but this one is just…. Eh.
