About the author

Olli Sovijärvi

Dr Olli Sovijärvi is one of the pioneers of holistic medicine in Finland. At the beginning of his career Dr Sovijärvi worked as a medical duty officer at the Finnish Red Cross Blood Service. In 2006 he graduated from the University of Helsinki with a Licentiate degree in Medicine and became self-employed in 2008. In 2010–2011 Dr Sovijärvi completed an Integral Theory degree at the John F. Kennedy University, focusing on psychology and philosophy.

For the first five years of his career as a physician Dr Sovijärvi was employed by Finland’s first medical recruitment agency. The job description involved scheduled patient care as well as emergency care and being on call. He has worked at nearly 50 different clinics around Finland.

His numerous media appearances, social media articles and Finland’s first health podcast have expanded the general public’s awareness of what health care can be. Dr Sovijärvi has also acted as consultant to various companies and service providers operating in the fields of wellness and health technology.

Between 2013–18 Dr Sovijärvi practiced medicine at a private clinic that specializes in nutrition and holistic health care. The clinic employs physicians and nurses practicing holistic medicine. The clinic features
the only trace element laboratory in Finland. At present, Sovijärvi focuses primarily on the production of scientific content for preventive health care and wellbeing. He also runs training sessions and presentations on the topics of biohacking, performance optimization, nutritional issues and maintaining the intestinal balance. In his free time he enjoys athletics, playing with his child, music and good humor.

Good Book as a reference about Mind, Body, Nutrition and metabolism in general. It's useful to have as a guide when you have doubts about a specific topic or if you prefer to deep in some topic about hormomes, suplements, etc

In spanish I prefer "Salud Salvaje" from Marcos Vazquez

It feels weird rating this one. It wasn't really a book, as in -- it wasn't a story at all. It was all pure information. That was to be expected, as it's more of a reference guide rather than anything else. I can't quite rate it if I haven't used it as a reference yet, you know?
However, I have other things to say:
1. While some of it was certainly helpful, the level of background detail about the human body was not really motivated by anything.
2. On the other hand, the later chapters were a bit too surface-level. The sleep chapter was the happy medium, I wish the other ones were more like it.
3. Too little actionable advice? I hesitate to throw in this one, because "upgrading yourself" is not an area where you can get definitive answers that apply to everybody. You kind of have to experiment and see what works. However, the endless cataloguing does get tiresome when you don't see how to apply the strategies to your life.

This book is essentially a gigantic encyclopedia filled with tips on how to biologically optimize yourself for performance, health, and happiness. The number of little tidbits on things like nutrition and sleep is astounding. Sometimes reading this book felt like a chore, as the amount of detail was excessive for my level of interest. But hey, this book seems to be targeted towards bio-hacking enthusiasts and I'm sure some people are interested in the n-th nutrient that will increase oxygen uptake in the amygdala by four percent.

Jokes aside, I do think there was a solid amount to be learned from this book. Does it need to be four hundred and whatever pages long? No.

There were a lot of nice graphics to illustrate different concepts though.

Książka, w której znajdziemy naprawdę dużo biologii (nie jestem wielkim fanem) i sporo odwołań do artykułów naukowych. Trochę się zawiodłem jej praktycznością - większość treści to teoria. Rad praktycznych może wydawać się być sporo, ale są one mocno rozdrobnione i w mojej opinii nie składają się na jeden zgrabny system działania - co mnie osobiście nie przekonało i odrzuciło. Książka jest też nierówna - rozdział o ćwiczeniach jest niezły, w porównaniu do tego o żywieniu, który był mocno teoretyczny, a przepisów było tam jak na lekarstwo, w porównaniu z innymi (o ironio!). Niezłe wydanie papierowe - masywne, z dobrym papierem i przepięknymi rysunkami. Ale też mam wrażenie, że nie sprzyjało ono tekstowi i można byłoby książkę całościowo odchudzić. Treść często skimmowałem, bo teoria męczyła mnie aż za bardzo, ogólnie książka mnie mocno rozczarowała.

Tämä järkäle oli oikein mainio tietopaketti omasta terveydestään kiinnostuneelle ihmiselle. Mulla kesti monta kuukautta kahlata tämä läpi, kun asiaa oli niin paljon ja kirja oli aika hankalan iso. Tämä on silti sellainen jonka voisi kuvitella jopa omistavansa kun oli niin täynnä hyvää tietoa miten meidän kehot, aivot, ja muut systeemit toimii ja kuinka niitä voi parhaiten ylläpitää.

Well-organized with beautiful infographics, the book utilizes science, technology, and a deep understanding of the human body, physiology, and nutrition.

The entrepreneur Serge Faguet recommended the section on sleep in one of his famous articles on biohacking. Accessible to everyone, it's well organized, lots of infographics, actionable, goes straight to the point. I'll keep it as a biohacking cheat-sheet.

This is an amazing book!
Anything you need to know to optimize your health (sleep, nutrition etc) is put in one book. Starting from what plants you can put in your bedroom and what mouse to get so your wrist wouldn’t hurt etc. I think every household needs this book!

Very thorough book with a lot of science-backed tips.

Sometimes it felt like information overload where I could not define what was important to me and what I could take away from it.

Tämä kirja on pakko lukea useampaan kertaan että saa kaiken mahdollisen irti. Toinen vaihtoehto olisi selata kirjaa edes takaisin ja kerrata se mitä asiasta sanotaan toisissa luvuissa. Kirja on hyvin monipuolinen ja looginen kokonaisuus, asioita käsitellään tieteellisesti tutkituin tiedoin ja myös kritiikkiä esitetään mikäli tarvetta ilmenee. Lukemisen arvoinen, vaikka ihan puhtaasta mielenkiinnosta.

Uskomattoman kattava opas suorituskyvyn, hyvinvoinnin ja terveyden optimointiin. Suurin osa vinkeistä oli niin syvällisiä, ettei niitä tule ikinä otettua osaksi omaa elämää, mutta on kiehtovaa tietää eri mahdollisuuksista. Kirjaan kuitenkin mahtui myös arkipäiväisiä vinkkejä hyvistä ruoka-aineista, unesta, työstä, mielestä ja liikunnasta.

Lue Biohakkerin käsikirja muistiinpanovälineiden kera ja keskity itseäsi kiinnostaviin aihealueisiin ohittaen muut.

Довольно уникальная книга. Не часто такое встретишь.
Максимально наполнена отрывками из научных исследований, которые практически невозможно применить на практике.
В подавляющем большинстве рекомендации написаны максимально сложным научным языком. Какие-либо рецепты состоят из ингредиентов, которые просто физически вряд ли возможно достать.
В общем, книга написана безумно сложным языком, наполненная невозможными к практическому использованию рецептами.

Järeä tiiliskivi, mutta hyvin mielenkiintoinen. Menee varmaankin hankintalistalle, tämä yksilö oli kirjastosta. Ainoa miinus kirjalle on, että se tosiaankin on järjettömän iso ja painava eli hankala lukea, mutta ehkäpä se ei olekaan tarkoitettu luettavaksi kerralla kannesta kanteen, vaan käsikirjana lähdeteos, josta tarkistellaan aina vain haluttu osa kerrallaan.

Kivaa nippelitietoa, ymmärrystä ilmanlaadun, unen, jne. merkityksellisyyteen, selkeitä käytännön vinkkejä. Liikaa luettelointia, saisi olla puolet lyhyempi.

Hyvä käsikirja ihmisen kehon ja mielen kokonaisvaltaiseen ymmärtämiseen. Ei paljoa itse tosielämän esimerkkejä ”hackeistä”, vaan aika pintapuolinen raapaisu itse metodeihin.
