Historia pełna akcji, przygód, fajnych zagadek i sympatycznych bohaterów. Ładne ilustracje tylko to uzupełniają. Na pewno będę czytać dalej.

"The Door to Time" was a delightful journey into the realms of adventure and mystery, perfect for younger readers seeking an escape into fantastical worlds.

From the very start, I was intrigued by the concept of a mysterious door leading to different historical periods. It's the stuff of dreams for any young adventurer, and Baccalario certainly delivers on the promise of excitement and discovery.

Although the pacing was a bit uneven at times, with some parts moving swiftly while others seemed to linger, the overall experience was still engaging. There's a sense of wonder and anticipation as the characters journey through time, each era bringing its own unique challenges and surprises.

While I wished for a bit more depth in the character development, I still found the protagonists to be likable. There's a sense of camaraderie among them that adds to the charm of the story, and I'm curious to see how their relationships evolve in future installments.

One thing to note is that not a lot seemed to happen in this first book in the series. However, I'm hopeful that this is just the beginning of a grander adventure, with plenty more mysteries waiting to be uncovered in subsequent books.

Overall, "The Door to Time" may not have been a flawless read, but it certainly left me eager to continue the journey with these characters. It's a fun and imaginative tale that will appeal to young readers with a taste for adventure and a love of history.

In Pierdomenico Baccalario’s book The Door to Time, he wanted to show that the dead still have influence on the living. This book takes place in the modern day England in a hidden town called Kilmore Cove. The story is told from the perspective of a boy from London named Jason, who believes in ghosts and always likes a good mystery, his twin sister: Julia, who believes that ghosts are not real and that her brother is crazy, and their new friend, Rick, who knows much of Kilmore Cove for he has lived there all his life. Jason and Julia are moving into a house with many secrets called Argo Manor that had a supposedly mad previous owner: Ulysses Moore. They first meet their care taker, Nestor who shows them around the house. One room catches Jason’s eye, one that had been there through the Middle Ages as a part of a castle's keep. Their parents are going back to London to finish up the moving process and leave the children with Nestor, so they invite their new friend, Rick, over to investigate the room. There they notice a door that looks the oldest. It was beaten almost to the breaking point. Curiosity makes Jason want to look inside, but the door is locked. But Jason does not give up so easily…
One of the best parts of the book is when Jason falls off of the cliff and finds a secret message hidden in a package inside a secret crevice in the rock. It is in a code that they find in a book called ‘Dictionary of Forgotten Languages’. Once decoded, it reads “When the grotto’s seems defeat, these earth-lights you may use to shine upon the fleet that takes you where you choose” (80). Not only was the fact that Jason almost falls to his death exciting, but when they decode the message was intriguing as well. After they translate it into English, it still is a riddle that needed to be put together with other clues they find throughout the book. This book is similar to another mystery book called The Westing Game. Both books are about a mysterious mansion and their old owner that died and gave their house away (although The Westing Game was about people earning it by finding out who had killed the old owner). Both books embrace the idea that dead people can change life for the living. In The Door to Time, Ulysses Moore gives Jason, Julia, and Rick clues to how to open the door and to what is inside of it (or so Jason believes). In The Westing Game, the old owner, Samuel W. Westing, sends letters to a few trustworthy people (and one not so trustworthy person) that he wants to solve the question of who killed him so that they can get his earnings. This is also true in life. A dying person’s best wish is usually done in their honor. People that enjoy mystery books should read this book because there is always a riddle to solve, and the answer always amazes the reader.

Sayangnya ceritanya termasuk pendek.

¿Hellouuuu? Añadido a favoritos✔️

Recomendado👌🏻

I enjoyed this book...picked a brand-new copy up from the IMCPL Book Sale for $1.00. I would have liked it even better if there had still been copies for sale the next weekend. I only bought one so I could read it before deciding whether to buy some as gifts for my 4th grade students.

The book claims to be written by Ulysses Moore, but Baccalario's name does show up on the copyright page. There were a few things that annoyed me as I read - spots where some quick re-reading and revision would have made paragraphs much tighter. Also, as an adult reader, there were spots where the author over-defined certain words, i.e. labyrinth. However, as a teacher, I see the potential benefits of such redundancies.

I wouldn't use this book for a lit circle or read-aloud, but I'll certainly encourage some of my kids to read it. The characters have some interesting quirks and the mystery is suspenseful. Each chapter ends on a cliff-hanger, which would keep the more reluctant readers moving through the story.

Normalde bu tarz hikayeleri severim. Bana çocukken arkadaşlarımla yaptığımız "define" avlarını, keşifleri ve küçükken izleyip hala çok sevdiğim "The Goonies" filmini hatırlatır.
description

First off, the book is marketed as being Ulysses Moore, but is actually written by someone from Italy and has been translated to English. That being said, I think there were some things lost in the translation.

Our three main characters, twins Jason and Julia and their friend Rick, are fun to follow and each of them offers something different. Julia constant sarcasm and joking keeps the mood light, but Rick irked me a bit. The twins are 11 and Rick is 12, but, at times, their dialogue and knowledge base far exceeds their ages.

Still, the story is interesting enough and there is an air of mystery surrounding the twins’ home on the cliffside. The manor’s caretaker, Nester, is hard to figure out, which I like. I never really knew what to expect from the book, but at the same time, I wasn’t really that into it either. The children talk about things that were kind of over my head and I don’t see how middle grade aged children can really get a feel for something that they don’t really understand.

Aside from that, the story had its pros. Like I said, the mystery will keep the reader guessing about what’s going to happen and as the children discover more and more, it’s hard to put the book down. Budding explorers will get a kick out of The Door to Time, but they have to want it because the story moves fairly slowly. The ending is what the entire book should have been about, but since it wasn’t, I can only imagine that the second book, The Long-Lost Map, is much more exciting.

Opening line: The house appeared suddenly from around the bend. ~ pg. 2

Favorite lines: His destiny was not to die in some dark tunnel. No, he was meant for something more. ~ pg. 161

I loved this book! It was a fast-paced good read, great for summer-time or weekends. Plus, it is the first in a series so it is easy for kids to keep on reading! 11 year old twins Julia and Jason move into Argo Manor with their parents; an old masion on the English Sea Shore. (yes, i seem to be on a british kick, see my last review...) Is it haunted? Is there a treasure waiting to be found? What's up with the caretaker? There are so many cool questions and possibilities that it is hard to put it down to eat dinner or go to the bathroom or anything else (like come to work)! Good for girls and boys, probably fourth grade and up. But, I would also be okay with giving it to a 7th or 8th grader who is either reading a bit below grade level (it doesn't look like a "little kid" book) or who is just looking for a quick, good read- especially one with out any grown-up issues.

Update- very addictive! I read through the next 3 in the series in about 5 days! And I want more!

Just when the story got going it was over and “to be continued.” I don’t mind a cliffhanger in a book or tv series, but this book was left very unfinished. It was a good attempt and may get kids more interested in learning about Greek mythology and ancient languages. Some parts of the ancient language clues may be a bit over the heads of eleven year old readers. It was reminiscent of Harry Potter, The Secret Garden, and you could say it had some National Treasure/Da Vinci Code elements in it too. Although a disappointment so far for the series is the lack of depth of the characters. They are very much the typical kids mystery story character. The mysterious lady who wants to buy the property, the odd caretaker of the property, the pestering adventurous little brother, the pretending to be disinterested older sister, the friendly neighbor kid out for adventure…these characters could use more personality to really give the story interest.

My only complaint with this book was that it ended just when the action got going!

Jason and Julia move from London to a sleepy little seaside town in England. They move into Argo Manor, a house surrounded by mystery. Right away, they notice that the house is a little different, and along with their friend Rick begin exploring. They stumble across (or rather slide down a cliff to) a small box containing some clay balls and a message written in a strange language. After decoding the message, other clues soon become apparent to them. What are the clues to? They are not really sure, but it must be something to do with the reclusive former owner of the manor, Ulysses Moore.
Before long they discover a strange boat that although in almost perfect condition, and obviously sailed upon, has no way of getting out to sea. Saying anymore than that would ruin the story way too much.

This was an interesting book and I really liked the adventure and suspense.

My rating: 4.1/5⭐
