Excited about attending the beautiful ball in the nearby castle, three little dragons show up with the best of intentions, but after they knock over the punch bowl, stumble about on the dance floor, and cause all-around havoc through a series of mishaps, the Good Knight quickly intervenes in order to get the gala rolling in the right direction once again.
Good knight welcomes three little dragons to the castle, where a party is in full swing. Unaware of their mishaps, suddenly the whole castle is in an uproar. Luckily Good Knight teaches the little dragons a thing or two about manners, with compassion, patience and kindness.
A cute picture book, ideal for those grown-ups who may be taking a child out to their first big event or someone's house. You'll figure it out. The illustrations and the trouble the little dragons get into provide some great hilarity for both kids and adults alike.
Good Knight's three little dragon friends are very cold. As he is a good knight, he takes them to the castle so they'll be warm. However, he cautions them to mind their manners because there's a ball happening at the castle. They agree. The only problem is that the little dragons don't know what manners are. They get into quite a few scrapes before Good Knight realizes the problem. Once educated, the little dragons are mannered and polite.
What I thought: Good Knight and his little dragon friends are such great characters. I look forward to reading about them for many years to come. I like how Thomas uses a repetitive style that is similar to Dr. Seuss. It gives the book a certain rhythm. Repetition also makes this book perfect for children to read for themselves. The illustrations are bright, colorful, and immensely appealing. The latest installment in the series is as good as the others previous. Brava, Ms. Thomas!
I love the early reader Good Knight series, so I was excited to find a picture book. The story here centers on using good manners. I just think these are so fun to read aloud...seriously, how often to you get to say 'methinks'?
A funny story about a knight that brings three dragons to a ball and where the dragons learn about manners.
Ages: 4 - 8

Good Knight takes the three little dragons into the castle to warm themselves after a big snowstorm. Good Knight informs the three little dragons that there is a festive party inside, and they must mind their manners, but dragons will be dragons. The three little dragons cause mischief during the party, until Good Knight reveals to them what it means for them to mind their manners.
The good knight took his three little dragon friends to the castle to get warm on a very cold night. There was a fancy ball in progress so he told the dragons to use their manners. But, dragons will be dragons! Fun illustrations.
I am exploring the world of children’s book because I am taking a children’s literature course this semester. This book was adorable and teaches kids about manners. I could picture myself reading it to my future class and sharing a laugh with them.
I saw this at the library and being a fan of "Good Night, Good Knight" and "Get Well, Good Knight" I had to take it home. It's okay but I didn't find it on level with the other two.
I do adore some of the illustrations - the horse is wearing leggings and earmuffs; too adorable!
Because of the cold, Knight has taken the dragons to the castle. Only there is a ball and he has asked them to "mind your manners." Of course that doesn't happen. The Knight cries "Why aren't you using your manners?" The dragons hang their heads and ask "What are manners?"
For me this is a good reminder that kids don't just know things, they need to be taught.
The Good Knight (and Shelley Moore Thomas) say "... And most of all manner mean thinking before you do something."
While this book was a lot of fun I was a bit disappointed that it wasn't directed to beginning readers like the first book was. This was longer and had much more difficult words. A good reader could tackle it but not an emerging one (without a lot of help).
That being said my kids thought this was really funny. The dragons are very cute and the illustrations are excellent. There's even a lesson about manners here which I always appreciate.
I would have rated this higher if it had been easier for kids to read. As a picture book though it's very well done.
This is not my personal favorite book, but Charlotte loves it. She likes the characters of the dragons, and the character of The Good Knight. Charlotte is very interested in knights, because she likes that they are brave. We both like the part of this book where the little dragons learn about manners - those are things that can always do with a little reinforcing around here.
We have exhausted the sum total of the Good Knight picture books available at our library. I'm going to check out interlibrary loan. Helpful knights is definitely a theme I would like to embrace around here.
A well written story will, as a bi-product, teach a moral lesson--obvious or subtle. The opposite is not always true. My experience with Shelley Moore's "Good Knight" books is that her charm as an author is dependent on subtleties in her writing and in her illustrator. Since this story was devoid of both, this one fell flat for me.
I loved Shelley Moore Thomas' first Good Knight book...Good Knight, Good Knight. This one was a great one to tell as a participatory story. This one (while not as good as the first) was a cute story, with some funny scenes, sure to get a laugh. And, those dragons are just so endearing!
The Good Knight invites the three dragons into the castle on a cold winter's night but there is a party going on and the Good Knight tells them that they have to use their good manners. They don't know what manners are though and trouble ensues.
A kind knight invites three little dragons into the castle to get warm, but warns them to mind their manners. However, "dragons will be dragons" and get into all kinds of trouble, until they learn about manners.
Three cold dragons are invited to the castle by the prince so they can get warm. He warns them that they must use good manners, because he is having a party. But dragons will be dragons, and soon there is trouble. Will they learn to use manners and make everything okay again?
This is a cute picture book about manners that is a good bedtime story pick, especially on a cold winter's night. We have enjoyed the books in the Good Knight series and will look to borrow more from our local library.
The dragons need to get out of the cold, so the Good Knight takes them to a fancy dress ball at the castle, but they struggle with minding their manners and thinking before they act. Lots of cute, illustrative lessons in concepts like"please" and "thank you" for beginning readers.
The Good Knight takes the three little dragons to the castle to warm them up from the cold, but they have to learn to use manners to keep from ruining the ball.
