As I read this book on work by the Scottish writer and preacher, Hugh Black, M.A., I was continually impressed at the changes in the views of work and rest between 1903 and today. Instead of striving to work less, the writer noted the need to work for duty and striving to have idle time for idle recreation that has little to bolster the soul leads to a life with less meaning and more temptation to want to create more idle ways to spend our time.
