I think I would've absolutely loved this book if the romance was just taken out. I know, I know, I'm the last person that you'd ever expect to say that just it's so confusing, unbelievable and inconsistent to me that I'm flat out ignoring it and pretending it isn't there. #sorrynotsorry

Truthfully, I don't even see it as romance. I see a teenage girl toying with a guys feelings while sleeping with another and flirting with anyone and everyone. But alas, I digress.

Okay, so the first book didn't tickle my fancy too much but I didn't hate it either, I felt like I just had too many questions or problems with certain things. So starting this one, it was sort of along the same lines but then perhaps midway through, it's like a flip was switched and HOLY CRAP this just got awesome! Now THIS is the kind of story I expected to get with having a secret op trained girl on a mission to find her mothers killer. Guns, combat, secret passage ways, fast cars, this is what I'm talking about! And the best part? No confusing emotions:
-yes I like him,
-no, I don't want to be with him,
-I was trained to not have feelings,
-I won't be friends with benefits because I'm already with the other guy, even though I'm not with the other guy
-blah blah blah
See what I mean? Annoying.

In the terms of excitement, this book definitely picked it up and was a lot better than the first. I'm looking forward to reading the next book now, though the ending doesn't give us much to go on or get excited about. Hopefully that changes in the beginning of The Society!

The Eagle (Spy Girl #2) by Jillian Dodd
4 stars!!!

“That is where you are wrong, my dear. You merely won a battle, not the entire war.”

This is such a hard review to write because everything is a spoiler, but the missions of Huntley Von Allister continue with a vengeance in The Eagle. After saving the Prince of Montrovia in The Prince, The Eagle starts with some well-earned downtime for Huntley, but it seems the world of espionage and assassinations have time for no-one.

As I said in my review for The Prince, the Spy Girl series is a cross between James Bond, Spy Kids and Nancy Drew. Huntley Von Allister being the orphan of spies who was subsequently placed in a Spy Academy as a child for protection and to hopefully emulate the success of her parents. Now trained and having already successfully completed her first mission, mission number two awaits.

After the assassination of the American President there is only one assassin who could have pulled off such a feat, an assassin that was presumed dead years ago. The assassination of the President is the first of a few hits and now Huntley and Ari need to thwart the subsequent attempts and take the killer out. This is a mission that has failure written all over it and now Huntley must put her life on the line once again.

Huntley’s back ground is still not really known but Jillian Dodd does give us a few more snippets of information perfectly building the suspense and intrigue with regards to how Huntley finds herself in the situation she is now in.

“So when were alone, we felt like a fairytale?”
“In most fairytales, the girl doesn’t lie to the Prince.”

A Jillian Dodd book would not be complete without man candy and The Prince of Montrovia and Daniel are still the love interests vying to get Huntley’s attention. The Prince is still my front runner but Huntley is still of the opinion not to get emotionally involved, the first rule of being a spy. Daniel I still don’t trust and I am sure that there is something sneaky going on behind the scenes with him.

“You have to come back, Lee… Because I think I love you.”

Fashion, humour, wit and fantastic banter are prevalent throughout and really cement this as a YA read. Huntley is a lot more serious and focused in this book rather than acclimatising to wealth and social occasions so you can already see her growth. For a spy though she is inherently compassionate and it is this trait that could cause her the most problems. Huntley really needs to dig deep in her gut because it is her instincts as to who to trust that will be her biggest weapon. There are so many “dodgy” characters in this book, Jillian Dodd is spinning the webs and I cannot wait to see who gets caught.

Bring on mission 3!!!

Sheesh this is a hard review to write because of all the suspicions but no revelations, there is a lot of conjecture and inference within the narrative adding to the tension while not divulging much in the way of answers to the millions of questions thrown up the events within the plot. Yeah, I know I'm not making much sense but you need to read it for yourself and I refuse to spoilt it for you. Although there are few revelations there are tantalising tidbits of clues scattered through the narrative allowing the puzzle to slowly to shape. The plot thickens with each tiny clue, assumptions are easily made but harder to confirm.

I adore Huntley, despite everything she has experienced and been trained for she manages to retain her innate compassion; drawing people to her. Huntley relies on her intuition as to who to place her trust in. Will she be proved right? Let's hope so!!!!

I have to say I am not too enamoured with the whole love triangle situation going on in the pages of The Eagle but I know there is a good reason for it, I just need the reason confirmed before I lose my mind, lol.

The Eagle is jam-packed - code names, conspiracy theories, betrayal and double cross, spies and counter spies. It is hard to figure out who is telling the truth and who exactly are the good guys in this story. DAMN, I NEED SOME ANSWERS!!!!

I was hoping this book would be better than the first, but it was honestly a let down. I didn’t care for the characters as much as I did and the plot bored me. I really wanted to enjoy this but I did not.

Suspenseful, explosive, and action packed.

The Eagle is full of unexpected plots, twists, and turns. It starts off with a powerful world leader being assassinated and the action never slows down after that point. Huntley, better known as X is assigned the case. Her mission is to find the assassin who took down the leader. It's not an easy because according to the world he has been dead for year, and their are things about him that are connected to Huntley's past. Amid all of the chaos Haley still finds her time to be in the middle of a sexy love triangle.

Huntley is such a dynamic character with so many aspects to her that I couldn't help but love her. She is a spy, a lover, a friend, and according to the world a very wealthy heiress. She has many diverse roles and she plays them all well.

On top of everything that Huntley is dealing with there are things that she is completely in the dark about. People that have bits and pieces of her future and past in her past in their grasp. They hold they key to the the things that she can't remember and the truth about her family. Who there people are is a mystery, but I believe that they will be very important in the next book of the series.

I loved this book which is no surprise because Jillian Dodd is a great author. There is something about her books that draw me in and hold me captive until I have read the very the last word. You will never go wrong when you make the choice to pick up one of her books.

The Eagle is really interesting and action filled. It is filled with romance, love, ___, friendship and action. The secrets and dangers lurk everywhere and the book does not come to a complete ending. Of course, this is one of the ways that the author does to attract you to continue reading this book but the mystery of this book is to hard to bear and it would've been better to attract readers by telling them the truth. The mystery of the book and the action of the book is perfect for me. However, it is not dramatic enough as it feels like a nice chat with the world's deadliest villain that killed the main character's parents. Another thing that can be improved is the appropriateness of this book, is it possible to create an edition of this book that is child friendly?

This books reminds me of the dark society and other spy movies except that this book is more scary and more close to you when the action happens. Unfortunately, I cannot connect to most of this book because I am not a covert spy and I am pretty sure I wouldn't be allowed to connect if I am one.

Huntley is enjoying some downtime on Lorenzo’s yacht after completing her first mission with Ari. The gorgeous Daniel has invited himself to join her which leaves her feeling a little bit conflicted. She has two guys who she has genuine feelings for, she likes them both.

After the death of a high profile world leader, Huntley is assigned her next mission. This time it is very a personal one. The assassin who killed family. However, the mission turns out to be quite unexpected for her.

There is just so much going on in her head and each day she wonders just who she can trust as that circle of people is becoming smaller by the day. To add to her confusion, memories from her childhood are slowly coming to the surface and I have a feeling that when they do fully appear Jillian will leave us feeling blindsided.

This is a fast paced, exciting series, full of suspense and riddled with clues that I am trying to figure out as I go. Bring on book 3!

And the mystery continues.

The Eagle continues Huntley's story and the mystery involving her family. Her undercover partner who is acting as her brother starts to question her background as well.

Things heat up with her and Prince Lorenzo but she is still keeping him at arms length.

There is more spy action in this stallment and it keeps it exciting. Huntley gets to be more of a physical bodyguard for Prince Lorenzo. He just keeps getting sweeter and she is going to miss her chance with him if she isn't careful.

Of course the epilogue leaves us with a big question mark about a situation but lucky for us readers the third book is already out.

These characters continue to grow on me. I already told you about Prince Lorenzo but Daniel keeps popping in for an appearance and he is quite the bad boy charmer himself. Lots of fashion, drama and mystery. What was supposed to be a bit of a vacation of Huntley after the last mission in book 1 doesn't really turn out that way.

A fun read that I would recommend. Lots of intrigue with a splash of romance.

I was gifted a copy for an honest review.

Huntley was successful with her first assignment and now she has received her second. The president of the United States has been killed and it is time for Huntley to face the man she has been dreaming about killing since the day she watched him kill her mom.

Huntley will be brought back together with Daniel and she will realize that he is not the man she keeps dreaming about and soon the man she cannot get out of her thoughts is back in her life. Along with finding the man that she wants revenge against she also learns information that makes her start to question who she really is and what information that was given to her is true or false.

This book had lots of surprises, and I continue to love Huntley and Lorenzo.

The plot of the story was more complex than the last book. There are new and mysterious characters, and we start to understand the mysteries of the school and our main character’s backstory. The action in this book was a little better than the last with threats, missions, and revenge. I could have almost given this book 4 stars if it didn’t have all the cringey romance. A lot happens in this book, it’s like the author realized that she needed to up her game from the last book and then threw a bunch of stuff into this one. And I will say, the author stepped up her game. Overall, another quick and easy read that immerses you in the world of spies.

The Eagle picks up right where we left off in The Prince (Formerly known as Spy Girl) and it doesn't slow down at all! This time around I felt the pace throughout the entire book was more smooth and just simply flowed better. I was telling my blog partner when I finished it that I can feel myself getting more and more addicted the further in the series I go. Jillian Dodd really has a knack for creating these crazy worlds full of characters who you cannot help but love, but what makes this series unique is the mystery surrounding Agent X, better known as Huntley.

As The Eagle begins we find Huntley relaxing on a yacht wondering what her next mission will be, hopeful she will one day be able to look her mother's assassin in the eyes as she ends his life. She's been so focused, so driven since she entered Blackwood Academy that's she never really thought to question anything. However, as the story unfolds lines begin blurring and as Agent X finds herself within the grasp of her one goal, a chance encounter not only changes her path, but leaves her longing for answers, unsure of reality and relying on her gut instincts. Who should she trust? Who is she really? Why was she sent to Blackwood Academy? Can she trust her employer? Should she trust them?

Yet aside from all of those struggles, she is also dealing with a Prince she loves, but is unwilling to admit to herself, and a Vice President's son who makes it easy to have a fun relationship without having to worry about her heart falling from him (but side note...she has no clue she is in love with the Price or that she won't ever truly fall for the VP's son). And who doesn't love watching a young girl navigate matters of the heart for the first time. It's the icing on the cake for me! I'm just going to go ahead and state the Prince is my choice, their connection is genuine and feels so "real."

What's crazy is as much as we learned about Agent X, as many questions as were answered there were just as many new questions posed that I feel just as confused as Huntley! I am super excited for book 3 and hope we do not have to wait to long to jump back into all the action. For me I felt by the end of the book that Jillian Dodd had fallen into her story-telling "groove," providing us with a story that I anticipate with each book readers will find themselves begging for more and more pages. Huntley's life may be confusing, but it's also a really fun place to escape to and she is a really easy character to not only like but to also cheer for. She's kick-ass but also has this soft, nurturing side which makes her very endearing.

“The Eagle” the second book in the “Spy Girl”series opens with Huntley Von Allister (aka “X”) and Daniel Spear cutting short their vacation on the Royal Yacht after the U.S. President is killed and his father takes over the leadership of the country. Suspicion that “the Priest” the assassin who killed Huntley’s mother is alive and responsible for the murder, Black X assigns her a new mission, to track him down and to find out who hired him.

Although the romance is wishy washy with Huntley flip flopping between Daniel Spear and Lorenzo, the King of Montrovia, intensity and suspense ratchet up when not only the assassin’s second target is identified, but the students and faculty at Blackwood Academy are murdered, Huntley’s friend surviving only to be accused of a homicide, and political tensions in the world increasing when the Syrians take the Russian port of Tartus. Intensity and suspense escalate when Lorenzo’s life is again threatened by a suicide bomber, heightening the mystery between Huntley’s mother’s death and Ophelia’s plan to end the monarchy in Montrovia.

Well-written and intriguing the plot vibrates with secrecy as Huntley and Terrance search for the truth about her mother’s death and her past buried in the files in her locket, the enigma of the covert organization called Black X and the link between Montrovia and the Terra Project. Skillfully Jillan Dodd weaves a thrill-ride with twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat until an explosive confrontation near the end that leaves more questions to be answered.

Included in the cast of complex and unforgettable characters are new faces like the deadly, calm and controlled “Priest” thought dead after being betrayed; a quick-witted but frightened Josh Bentley; and Chauncey a precocious six-year-old who wants to be a knight. Like Huntley Von Allister now a Montrovian Countess who continues to be smart, self-sufficient, and unflappable but unsure about her feelings towards Daniel and Lorenzo, all these personalities and others fuel this story with excitement, passion and drama.

I liked “The Eagle” with its mystery and intrigue and look forward to reading the next book in the series.

The Eagle is book two in the Spy Girl series by author Jillian Dodd. When we last left Huntley she was on a luxurious yacht finally getting the downtime she so desperately deserved. However it was cut short when she received a new mission. A mission that started the The Eagle off with more action, fashion and hotties. It is difficult to write a review without giving away the plot or storyline for this series. Especially due to the action based nature of the books.

We can talk about the Prince and Daniel for a moment though. Ladies, Jillian always manages to write the most perfect book boyfriends for us to swoon over. Seriously!?! She leaves us arguing with one another about which one our main character should choose. There are two guys here that Huntley could choose should she choose to settle down in the end. My gut is telling me that Jillian is going to spring another hottie on us though. Do you remember the Keatyn Chronicles? We had Cush, Aiden and Dawson to choose from!! Why settle for two when we can have three?

Oh wait...the hotties distracted me from the book. Back to The Eagle. Buy the book! It's worth it. The story builds from The Prince and honestly has just gotten better. If you loved the Nancy Drew books growing up you will love these.

This novel was explosive! (Pun Intended)

There are so many moving parts that it keeps you on your toes throughout the book and just when you think you have it figured out WHAM! You are blinded side by something else.

Now that Huntley has successfully finished her first mission, and is enjoying time off when breaking news pulls her back to the US where is tasked with her next mission.
"I now have the assassin exactly where I want him."

The lies and deceit really ramped up this novel.

Huntley's heart is also getting in the way.
"He gazes into my eyes, and we share a moment. The kind of moment from a love story - two people rooted in their spots, the world spinning around them, while they only see each other."

Can Huntley complete her second mission or will her heart, soul and compassion compromise it?

I Haven't read the first book in this series yet but got to read this book because Jillian Dodd was kind enough to send me a special code to get an early copy.
I found I didn't have to read the first book in order to understand what was going on as it explained at the beginning of the book.
This book was very well written and found yet another series from Jillian that I loved!
Once I started this book I couldn't stop reading.
I am looking forward to the next book to see if Huntley and Ari find out that they are actually related.
I hope they do!!

If I could give this negative stars I would. The only reason I read this book is because the ebook I have had books 1-2 included, but given how horrible the first one was I should have known this would be bad. At this point I was in it for the comedy, where do I start:

1. The President of the USA has just been shot, is in critical condition. The son of the Vice President (who is now acting President) is on your boat and has no clue. Instead of that being the FIRST thing you mention, instead you ask him how he got on the boat. Seriously, this is probably not the best time to be rehashing your relationship status…it can wait.
2. She overhears a conversation about an agent and her daughter who were both killed 6 years ago and yet decides this couldn’t be about her and her mom. Seriously, we have established that the school you were sent to was made exclusively for you, you were encouraged to never talk about your families or even your names with your classmates, and this is the first time you have considered that the world thinks you died? Worst spy ever…
3. You have recently become the KING of your country and yet your mom and now deceased father (who was King) still get to decide that you have to get married by the time you are 24…you are the KING, tell them no…instead you just whine and complain that it isn’t fair. CHANGE IT!
4. Juan (the head of security for the king) might be the most incompetent person I have ever heard of. Huntley sees a suspicious man at Independence Hall and thinks “bomber” and he says “what do I do” to which she gives very precise details as to how to take him down without risking the bomb going off. She darts the dude taking him down. Afterward Juan just accepts that a “personal security” class is what taught her how to do that? HA! That is the most unrealistic lie ever! And yet he goes on to ask for the name of the firm so that they can train the Royal Security Team…
5. She goes back to Blackwood to find the whole place empty and then just happens to come across the one kid she hooked up with and actually knows his name. He tells this OUTLANDISH story that armed men (who just happen to be former students) came to the graduation the day before and killed everyone. (30+ highly trained spies were killed and only he survived by ambushing one of them and killing the other.) to top it off within 12 hours of killed 30+ people there is no sign of any dead bodies on campus, every single item on campus is GONE, and no one is talking about them all dying. And instead of getting out of there or trying to figure out what happened he is concerned with the first time she had sex…I just can’t with this book.

There is so much more I could say about how downright horrible this book is…but I will spare you. Just don’t waste your time.

For those of you that have read Spy Girl, The Eagle is a MUST READ! This book picks up right after Spy Girl ended and takes us on another crazy ride, where we are left with more questions, yet seem to get some answers, and a lot of action in between.

Huntley is trying to relax after everything that has happened and is waiting for her next mission and is still looking for answers, Daniel has joined her on the yacht and Lorenzo is not pleased about it. Both of these men are vying for her heart and she refuses to give either it to either of them. She has a job to do and she can’t lose herself to a man. When she’s back on US soil things get even more interesting, but at least she has Ari around to help and it’s very interesting to see who all they can and can’t trust.

There is so much that happens in this book that and through it all and everything Huntley goes through she keeps her humanity which is something I admire about her. This girl has been through more than anyone should EVER go through. She is sent on a mission that is risky and puts her in a lot of danger, but she takes it knowing she may get some answers she has always wanted, but it only leaves her, and us as the readers with more questions!

This book with all the different subtexts thrown in gives us some insight into who or what may be pulling the strings and even though I’m kicking myself for not reading this book when it came out, I’m actually happy I waited since book 3 (The Society) is now out so I can dive right in and see if we get some more answers. If you’re looking for a suspenseful read with a heroine that you can’t help but love, the Spy Girl Series is one you should definitely pick up today! Jillian Dodd does not disappoint with this series!

oh my god. This is even BETTER than the first one. I have SOOOO many things that I love about this book so let me go in order. First of all:-

1) Huntley is actually not that much of a playgirl. I'm really glad to know that there's actually a reasonable moral compass inside of her and that it is acting up well and good. Something that not only guides her well through this particular aspect but also another that made me TRULY proud of Huntley. And Lorenzo....oh my god. If she doesn't end up with him in the end.....I will throw a MASSIVE fit.

2) I'm starting to LOVE the whole pace of things. A spy girl?!?!?? Who knew I could love such a plot line SO MUCH! I've always be fascinated by the whole agent, spying, assassin thing. But I've never actually had any REAL idea of what any of it was actually like. It was so intricate, complex, and probably required SO much forethought that honestly- props to you Jillian Dodd. That is a beautiful mind you've got there.

3) Lastly, the mystery of her parents. Normally when there is a looooong series with the same set of characters that go through a different journey in each book but always return to safe home at the end- bores me to tears. I literally cannot read more than two books and drop the series like a hot potato. But in this case, the fact there is an entire OTHER mystery about something very personal to the main character unfolding in the background of each book, makes reading this series THAT much more interesting. And boy is it one HELL of a mystery...
