The Nike sneaker slogan is "Just do it!" Homework should be treated the same way. Just do it! Kicking a desk, breaking pencils or throwing homework out will not help, the homework will still need to be completed.
"How to Do Homework Without Throwing Up" by Trevor Romain addresses every possible aspect of homework. He discusses the necessity for homework and how it fine tunes skills already learned and creates practice for skills not yet fully assimilated.
Many helpful suggestions abound for helping students successfully complete homework assignments. Eating a healthy snack first provides brain food.Doing homework in the same place each day, prioritizing and doing the most difficult work first and telling your parent or an adult if you need help are some helpful tips. Some children might want to attend a homework club or work with a study buddy.
Humorous illustrations by Steve Mark, further demonstrate how completing homework increases self-esteem and the comical foibles of trying to make excuses for not getting the job done.
"How To Do Homework Without Throwing Up" helps teachers and parents start a conversation with young learners, especially third to fifth graders. Completing homework and consistently reading will translate into future school success. Additionally, author Romain discusses learning difficulties including the need for glasses, being bullied and the student requiring extra help for school success. This gem of a book should be a staple in any home or school library.
Thank you free spirit PUBLISHING and Net Galley for the opportunity to read and review "How To Do Homework Without Throwing Up".
This book was a fun way to address some of the bad habits we find ourselves making when doing homework. I like that this book is humorous, well-illustrated, and touches on a lot of great points about how to be successful regarding afterschool classwork. I think the author made some big assumptions about how helpful parents, teachers, siblings, therapists/ counselors, etc. can be, regarding successful academic endeavors... and I didn't necessarily agree with that. But otherwise, I really enjoyed this book. It's for younger readers, but it has some timeless advice. 3.7* rounded up. (And for the record, dogs really do eat homework. In 5th grade, I had a teething puppy who thought my social studies homework and a few books from the library were delicious. I'm just saying -- it happens.)
Here are a few good reasons for doing homework. This is for everybody but more for students. Many times no one wants to do homework. Sometimes students say "What homework?" or "What are you talking about?" When they said homework they really don't know what they are talking about.
I liked the book because it showed me how to do my homework such as organizing my life as a student how to do the tasks and where are the places where nobody bother you so that you can stay focused on what you're doing because there are times when some students do not care about their tasks that are very important .
The book talks about how you can make your homework , and how you can get an A on your materials because it also talks about that to make tags! for that and where the homework! of to do, and also when you have questions you can ask your parents or your teachers why they are there to help you .
This book gives students tips on how to do their homework. I think the best tip was to ask teachers when you have a problem or don't know what to do. Another great tip was to remember to bring your homework home to do it and bring it back to turn it in.
I would recommend this book to all students because it is very important to do your homework. I liked this book because the topic was interesting to me.
This book is very revealing in a variety of ways on how to do your homework effectively. It gives many ways of being able to stay on task. I feel this book should be read by a younger audience because most teenagers know how to get homework done effectively. This book only appealed to me as a three star book because of the age of audience it is based on. I did enjoy the book, it was a short, fascinating read.
"How to Do Homework Without Throwing Up" is a silly book intended for young children. The book is instructions on how to do your homework effectively. It gives tips on organization and study habits. It talks about the importance of doing your homework in a timely manner and not procrastinating. I did not enjoy this book at all and felt it was a waste of my time. I would not recommend it to anyone over the age of 10, if anyone at all. If I could give it less than 1 star I would.
I found this book to be an easy read. I think that this book could actually help some kids do their home work. This book helps give you ideas on how to stay on task with your work. I would recommend this book to a younger age of kids. I did enjoy reading this book even though it is written towards younger kids.
"How to Do Homework Without Throwing Up" gives helpful hints on study habits and how to stay focused. While reading this book, you will find what to do and things not to do while trying to study. It also tells you how do develop a study program. I think kids and teens of all ages should read this book, it is very helpful.
Homework is soooooooo important .I learn that homeworks effects my life future .5 sters is for some funny and pull each child to his homeworks ........like me !
My aunt literally changed my life after gifting this book to me during elementary school. Because i actually decided to do my homework and study after reading it. Not simply because the book had great suggestions, but because i was very happy that a grownup adult is understanding how i feel, and it helped me to feel less "unusual"; considering that i was the only student in class who hated homeworks, well now i know that the i wasn't the only one but the problem was that i was the honest one. So many years have passed, but i still remember this book when I'm struggling with my projects in college, and every time i feel that someone is out there who can understand😂
the name of the book I reed is How to do my homework without throwing up by Trevor Romain. this book tells you ways to do your homework and get it done faster and to be able to find better ways to do it to do better on it. This book tells you who you can ask to help you to do your homework and how to do it better and how to do good on your homework. Say you need to do your homework but it is your bed time and it needs to get done and you need to find time to do it so you have to ask for help for your parents or older siblings. I rate this book a 6/10 it was ok it was just not for me you can say. I recommend this book to 8 years old and up because there is a lot of big words.
i'll admit it ... 1 i had to get this book because the book cover was so cute. 2 i had to get this book because i was totally curious. i have not done homework in years ... i did it through college so that was 1998 ... when did i graduate there? any who ... i guess i had to do some work ... learning when in working situations but not like when you were in school. great read. fun. quirky. cute. i did read it through my local library leaning program. fun times!! kindle Fire read. laters.
This is a book I probably should have read when I was struggling in grade school, but I wasn’t the biggest reader and never ended up reading it until now (because why not?). It actually has good tips, is a quick read and doesn’t shame or sugar coat things like procrastination.
The book is about a young boy who HATES homework. He gives all most 500 DUMB and good reasons how not to barf wile doing homework. One of the good ways is taking breaks to read. Another good way is doing it in the same quite place every time. The book was really easy and a fast read.
I give this book five stars because it is really funny and it made me do my homework. Is it short, easy to read and is the indicate for people who are starting to read books.
I like it because it was interesting.I would recommend it to schools, libraries, and more.I like this book because it is nice that some people LIKE homework.that is why this book is really good.
How to do Homework Without Throwing Up by Trevor Romain is a children’s non fiction book that is currently scheduled for release on April 1 2017. Homework isn’t going anywhere, and kids need to learn to do it. This updated classic provides specific tips for starting, doing, and finishing homework—and maybe even laughing while they learn. Kids will also learn how to make a homework schedule, when to do the hardest homework (first!), the benefits of doing homework, and more—serious suggestions delivered with wit and humor because laughter makes learning fun. Refreshed to address modern distractions like the Internet and electronic devices, this updated classic (with hilarious full-color illustrations) helps kids see that they can handle their homework and emphasizes how terrific it feels when they finish.
How to do Homework Without Throwing Up is a simply written book that tries to get young readers to understand that while doing homework is not fun, it is necessary and fighting it only makes things worse. The ideas, suggestions, and tools that the book offers are all pretty simple to implement- setting up a routine and having a snack being among my personal favorites. The illustrations are fun and emphasizes the ideas that the text is trying to get across. This could be helpful for families struggling with big homework battles. However, I found that the text includes things that would only be relevant to older students, while seeming to be aimed at a younger audience. It felt a bit like those skits that school kids are forced to sit through in school assemblies- where the points being made are good but the delivery is a little to corny to really stick with the target audience.
Okay, this is one book we HAVE to have at least two copies of in our elementary school library! It's PERFECT for the targeted audience! (About 4-6th grade.) It's a brilliant combination of what that age group already wants to read - lots of clean humor and graphics! The suggestions are couched in such a fun way so that they won't even mind that they're being given instructions! Also I got the impression that the author thinks his audience is worth talking to - that he really likes them. They will be really liking him back. I'll be looking to see what else this author has out there, 'cause they'll be in demand!
I loved how Romain tells kids to practice reading by reading everything, great literature, blogs, nonfiction...(he goes on and on,) street signs, comic books, cereal boxes, "your big sister's diary (OOPS, just kidding!)" Now that was age appropriately catchy! I also appreciated his mention eating healthy snacks to boost brain fuel instead of salty fatty foods that are hard to digest and actually make it harder to focus. Cool. And there's so much more!
I got this (re-release version) book from NetGalley for this honest review and this elementary school librarian LOVED it!
This is a basic compilation of some do's and don'ts when it comes to homework. Nothing notable, but mostly things that are common sense. I could see a parent or teacher reading sections of this book to their child or student as a tactic to use if they are having trouble getting their homework done.
Trevor Romain has written a surprisingly humorous and educational book. Although it’s mostly common sense because it’s written to kids it should actually be very helpful. Along with the wonderful advice on how to create schedules, avoiding excuses, and the positivity that comes with doing a job well done, the art work that is included to illustrate everything adds a layer of amusement that should help kids want to read this book.
There are intelligent but fun mantras that parents can print out and put up near where their child does their homework to help motivate them. As a parent I learned quite a few things from this book on ways to help my child make homework time easier.
It’s not just for young kids, high school students and even college students would do well to read this book too and apply the lessons to make studying easier. I also loved the healthy snack tips so you can avoid the inevitable sugar crash that will prevent you from working properly by eating the wrong thing.
If you have a child, teen, college student or if you fit any of these categories yourself you really need to check this book out. It’s not very long which will make it easier on those short attention-spans and I bet putting this book into practice will pay off with some very good grades!
Recommend for kids who are kicking and screaming or just dragging their feet over homework and for parents who are losing their minds about it -- like I've been. The title grossed out my child and he doesn't want to read it so I'm reading it to him. (Big surprise!) It puts the reasons and ideas for establishing a homework routine into kid speak. It relates to kids and acknowledges that homework can be horrible but explains that its a reality and it does benefit them long term. It focuses on how to deal with it maturely. My child already likes the idea of making the suggested homework schedule! I'm concurrently reading That Crumpled Paper was Due Last Week by Ana Homayoun. It is written to parents of disorganized boys and how to parent them into successful educational life.
I purchased this book in primary school through the Scholastic pamphlets that were ubiquitous in schools at the time. At the time of purchase, around age 9, I found this book entertaining and informative. As a means for sustained self-motivation, I reread this book throughout the years, so much so that it has become an item of nostalgia.
I can only speak to the earliest edition, but I must admit to have been a big fan of this book. Writing from my graduate apartment at Yale University, I may even credit this book with a very small contribution to my academic outcome.
Homework has serious side effects. You might become smart and successful if you do all your homework. Buku ini cukup inspiratif untuk anak2 yang sebel sama Pe-eR dan cukup menghibur buat orang dewasa. Bahasa yang digunakan mudah dimengerti dan bikin ketawa.
School Library Journal praised How to Do Homework Without Throwing Up as “Designed to make kids laugh…a great little paperback for parents and educators to share with those who think homework is the bane of childhood.” Students of all ages and grade placements will learn valuable homework skills like how to make a homework schedule, how to get help with homework assignments, and more.
It was okay i guess it wasnt wht you would think it would be about though i only like the advise they give you to do your homework. It wasnt a book many people would read it a goofy book i thought it was kinda funny on how they tell you how to do your homework. I personaly liked this book because i thought the advise was my favorite part.
I think children will love this. The messages are all positive. There are some really good tips that even adults can use in their daily lives. Some are funny to read. Others are oh so true. This is short and sweet and you can apply the suggestions immediately. I would say this is a great reference for reluctant readers. It is a start and it is never too late to pick this up.
I bought this book for Gwynedd from her Scholastic Order. She read the whole thing out loud to me last night and seems to be taking it's advice to heart. It used just the right amount of humor and lightheartedness to get the message across!
Lots of easy-to-read suggestions for how to tackle homework, and why. Simple enough—with brief text and an illustration on each page—to be readable for even the most reluctant homework doer. Reviewed for www.GoodReadingGuide.com
