This started out okay, but I lost interest.
Gabby annoyed me a bit because she took an unnecessary risk and ended up getting sent to the colonies leaving her sister all alone. Why take the risk when her sister was depending on her?
The storyline in this was about Gabby being sent to the colonies and treated like a slave, whilst her sister Dawn and boyfriend Drew go out there after her, even though I wasn’t really sure how they expected to rescue her. We got some revelations along the way, and a hint of romance, but the pace was a little slow for me, and the story didn’t hold my attention well.
The ending to this was okay, but I don’t think I’d want to read the next book in the series.

Up until about half way through, this book was 4 stars, but that ending! Wow! It had to be a 5!
For the first time in a long time when reading a book, my heart was racing towards the end. It was like I was running alongside Gabby and Dawn. In that moment, I was being chased too. The writing was incredible!
I liked the essence of the story being about families trying to find each other. The only criticism I would have is that Drew's motives to go to the colonies seemed to get a bit lost in the story. I'd love to find out more about him and really hope that it's in book 2!
I did get a little confused sometimes about who was narrating at certain times even though each chapter clearly says who it is. I think it may be because it was written in first person. My brain just couldn't figure it out quick enough. It's no fault of Michelle Lynn's, just my brain!
I loved all of the characters, though I did share Dawn's view of Drew at the beginning - cocky arse! However, my mind was quickly changed. Oh, Drew... How I love you... I find Gabby a little harder to relate to, but I think that might be because I'm more like Dawn in real life.
It's no wonder my love life is so abysmal when I have all these fictional boyfriends. Well, Drew is now added to that list. If anyone knows a man like Drew living in England, send him my way ;)

This is a fun YA adventure, which appealed because it is set in a future world where America no longer exists and Britain has once again colonised the country (hope it works out better than last time) and uses it as a penal colony for anyone who commits even the smallest crime.
When a sister is arrested for stealing a bracelet and sent to the colonies, her sister and her boyfriend follow her to attempt a rescue. The boyfriend has a powerful father who refuses to help and the girls lost their father when they were very young, which led to them living in poverty. There are some interesting twists around the different relationships but no spoilers!
This is the start of a trilogy so we don't get all the answers in this first book but we are introduced to well developed characters and the future they inhabit.
The story is action packed and well written. All in all an easy and thoroughly enjoyable read.

Dawn of Rebellion is an original take on what I picture as the aftermath of a battle against the nations. Dawn’s sister, Gabby, is taken to a camp as punishment for stealing, but Dawn won't have it. With the help of Drew, she enters what's left of America to rescue her. Along the way, she learns the truth about secrets that have been kept hidden and meets wonderful people who challenge her to look at everything in a new light. This story is well written and takes you into a futuristic society. This is a read you won't want to miss. Can't wait to start the second one.

With the final installment of a rather famous YA dystopian series about to hit our screens, you would forgive this reviewer for feeling a bit jaded with the genre. It's been about six months since I read one. I thought I could not take another. Then Dawn of Rebellion pops up and I try it. The cover looks intriguing - I'm British, and its a YA dystopian? Already, this story says 'hey, I'm different'.
And it certainly is. Sisters Gabby and Dawn are the focus of the book, and when one the siblings steals a bracelet as a super birthday present for her sister, she is promptly arrested and dispatched to an unknown location to face an uncertain fate. But it's going to be rough justice, whatever it is.
At this point in the story, I was thinking 'this is rather harsh, even by totalitarian government standards', but in the author's world, even the smallest infraction carries the heaviest price. Think about the simple themes of love in the greatest dystopian novel of them all, and yet Winston and Julia pay the ultimate price.
So whilst Dawn of Rebellion is not as dark as that particular tale, it is dark, brooding and yet at the same time, manages to work in an unforced love story between Dawn and the third biggest character in this story - Drew.
As Drew says, in one of my favourite lines from the story:-
"I have never met anyone like Dawn or Gabby. They are both strong, yet surprisingly vulnerable. Both of them will go to the ends of the earth for each other. I never knew bonds like that existed. They are the stuff of stories.In today's world, people don't just risk everything for each other."
Now here is another point of note - the POV changes per chapter. I know some readers dislike this, but I actually adore this writing style. Anyone who says 'I can't read a story shaped like this' will miss out. POV is important, but we shouldn't always expect a third person narrative. Let's change things up. And this book does.
The author gets many of the British slang right on the head of the nail,not an easy thing to achieve, so again, my respect for that.
The main thing that drove me to read this book in only three days, was the clear and strong bond between the sisters. Gabby is taken away, so Dawn hatches a plan for her rescue. Improbable chance of success? Yes. High chance of being killed? Tick. Hard to put this story down? Oh yes.
Let me just say that I loved THG - you know which series I am on about. After reading book one, I bought 2 and 3 straight away. I already purchased book two in this series. I simply have to know what happens. In my view, the story is stronger than many other YA / Dysts with its original setting, shifting POVs (that are per chapter, not per scene, so you won't get lost, I promise you) and thrilling story, and believable characters who make believable decisions, given the pressure they are under.
It's looking like a great series. Jump in.

by Michelle Lynn is the first in a 3-part dystopian YA sci-fi futuristic British-American characters series. Points for strong female characters as well as characters that are not all teens or young adults who feature prominently: so far, one who is a child and a few middle-aged and thirties-ages have significant roles). The apocalyptic aspects are sketchily explained, but the rationale for that is that the main characters' understandings are incomplete (deliberately and accidentally under- and mis-educated). Narrators alternate, so first-person POV frequent changes may confuse some readers. There are also not clear distinctions between the two sisters except for circumstances and a few stereotypical nods to traits and age-related characteristics, so it's a good thing each chapter is named by its narrator's first name.
The book has uneven pacing and odd chapter breaks as well as mistakes /errors in word choice (not just the British v. American English issues, which I don't mind), sloppy grammar and missing or incorrect punctuation that I find unacceptable. Again, this author skimped on or was ripped off by editors/proofreaders.
Additionally, the chapters are too numerous (over 60) and quite short, which I also dislike: it makes the writing choppy and speaks (again) to poor editing choices. Many of the chapters are narrated by the same character who narrated the previous one, so why break those up?
Furthermore, this author is unclear on the concept of "series," in my opinion, since she ended Volume I in the middle of a scene and situation. Not only is there no "closure" to this book, but the scene itself is a cliff-hanger, and not in a good way. Sure, large scale conflicts in a series between/among people and in the grandest sense (humans v. nature, e.g.) can't and shouldn't be resolved within the first volumes, but situations and plot arcs must have a rise, a climax and a resolution within each book. I believe each book in a series must have its own completed plot arc; this does not and I've read others that do not, either. I hope this is not a trend, as it is breaking the unspoken contract between readers and the author: do not leave readers hanging mid-scene at book's end.
Madeline L'Engle, Susan Cooper, J.K. Rowling all did multi-volume series superbly. Lynn needs to re-read these and see what she did wrong.
Many of the characters are lazily drawn via stereotypes, tropes and cliches, as are the main situations and plot points. Not exactly plagiarized, but this author freely (and probably unconsciously) relies on those who wrote before (and mostly better than) she did. I can name more than dozen books/series that are similar and I'm not a even a well-versed reader of this genre, either.
All that said, it is one of the few books I did read in its entirety, so it must be somewhat compelling/interesting, even to this jaded reader. I'm NOT a dystopian YA fan, usually, but I have read a lot of them and enjoyed some. I liked this book's/series' basic premises and characters enough and wanted to find out what happened sufficiently to keep going, but it was very slow (it took me days to read because I kept putting it down in dismay or dissatisfaction).
Included in this are for the dystopian portion: the bad side of climate change, class/race-type conflicts, gender role issues, health and nutrition problems, parental abandonment and dishonesty, untrustworthy governments/education systems, rebels and outcasts, slavery, violence and threats of violence, deaths and murders.
On the plus side, interesting views and well-raised issues of sibling relationships, loyalty, courage, the bases for friendships/alliances (between some unlikely pairs and groups), ingenuity, revelations that disturb long-held beliefs---personal and larger---including characters'/groups' understandings of religion/God, parents, government, history, science, sex/romance, personal/group identity and morality/ethics.
Can't heartily recommend, but many will like this and want to keep reading the series despite its shortcomings.

This book is an action-packed young adult adventure in a dystopian world of the future. Environmental changes have caused North America to warm and dry out, while Britain has got colder. Short of food, the populations dwindled through hunger, civil war and disease. We learn about this through the experiences of two girls, Gabby and Dawn, sisters in poverty-stricken London. Drew, one of the more well off people, is a kid in their school who fancies one of the girls, Gabby - but his influential father has her deported.
The adventure ramps up as the other sister Dawn determinedly finds a way to the colony that used to be America with Drew. The lad only wants to find his half-brother, similarly deported, but as their missions coincide they work together. I won't ruin the story by telling too much because I read it in one sitting to find out what happened. The slave colony growing food like oranges for England is just part of the experience but it is described very vividly and you really, really want the girls to get free. Even then, what would they do? Where would they go in this wilderness?
This tale is novella length and is suitable for reading by young adults, with some violence and challenging situations. You can learn a lot by reading Dawn of Rebellion, and you will probably want to read the next book right away.

This story should come with a warning! WARNING – Hard to put down!
Dawn of Rebellion, follows the stories of Dawn and her sister Gabby swapping between their POV’s. They live in a harsh world where they have always had to have each other’s backs. But when Gabby pushes the boundaries of the law a little too far she is shipped off to the colonies, leaving Dawn to fend for herself. With the help of Gabby’s boyfriend Drew, Dawn sets off to find and rescue her sister.
I didn’t think I would, but I really enjoyed reading the story from the different characters POV’s. I prefer reading from a first person perspective, and was happy Michelle Lynn took a different approach. Although it took me a little to get use to Lynn’s fast paced writing, usually preferring a little more description injected into a story, it quickly sucked me in and I found it hard to put down.
I thoroughly enjoyed both Dawn and Gabby’s stories, and found the entire concept of America’s demise and England’s uprising intriguing.
This story should come with one more warning. WARNING – CRAZY CLIFF HANGER!
But I loved it! It left me wanting more and stayed true to the story.

What a story! Set in the future, you start the book following along with two sisters, Gabby and Dawn. The story is told in alternating POV’s, which I loved because the two girls get separated right from the beginning. The transition flows easily, and I never once questioned whose head I was in.
While reading, I could visualize the terrifying world the author created. Each trial and tribulation the characters underwent was disheartening, and I felt their pain. The story drew me in from the beginning, and I had a hard time putting the book down. I just had to know what was going to happen next.
Although I enjoyed reading this book, I would've liked to have seen smoother interactions between a certain couple. At times, the main characters’ emotions ran too hot and cold, which is why I rated this a four star. But those minor details certainly didn't pull you away from enjoying this book.
The ending was totally unexpected and left me wanting to read the next book. The author did a wonderful job in creating such an imaginative story. I’ve already downloaded the next book!

Britain is ruled under military occupation, and all attempts of sedition are quelled violently, and criminals are sent to the colonies - the former United States - for the merest of infractions.
Abandoned by their parents as children, sisters Dawn and Gabby live rough on the streets of London. But when a lapse in judgment gets Gabby arrested and sent to a slave labor camp in the colonies, little sister Dawn must discover courage she never knew she had to save the only family she has left. While Gabby struggles for survival inside, Dawn finds unlikely allies to help reunite her family.
Told in alternating first-person POVs between Dawn and Gabby (and, on a couple of occasions, Gabby's friend and Dawn's ally Drew), the story unfolds slowly but gathers steam quickly, and I found myself glued to my Kindle, hoping against hope that Dawn and Gabby could not only be reunited but escape with their lives. The story ended on a cliffhanger that has me itching to start the next chapter in the saga!

This book demonstrates the author’s tremendous story telling ability. The Dystopian creation with an America reduced to essentially a penal colony and A Britain under a tough, controlling regime , tells the story of two sisters from differing perspectives. Very original concept and superb story telling make this a book I am happy to recommend. While I seem to keep reading Dystopian novels, they are not my first choice as I am way too picky about the back ground logic and I tend to spot things that I sometimes have to try too hard to suspend my disbelief and I can struggle with dystopian language . It is not a problem in this book as my attention was held within the narrative of the book. A Dystopian fan’s delight I am sure. Michelle Lynn is definitely an author to watch out for, great read

I really loved Dawn of Rebellion and was left with my mouth hanging open at the end! I cannot wait to see what happens next for Dawn and Gabby. Michelle Lynn does a great job of getting your attention right from the beginning of the book and holding it all the way to the cliff hanger ending. I'm usually not a fan of books written in first person with multiple characters point of view switching back and forth between chapters because I find it distracting. Sometimes I have to stop and try to remember which character's POV I'm on, but the author does a great job of making the sisters' voices very unique so I had no trouble and found myself quickly engrossed in the story. This was a great YA read and I absolutely recommend it!

I thought this was an okay read. I thought the beginning was interesting, but then I lost interest in the story. I felt like the characters were okay, but not that strong. Dawn was a bit impulsive and taking a lot of risks. I did feel sorry for them at some points.
There was a bit of a romance between Drew and Dawn. The ending was okay. I wish there was a little bit more to the ending to make my rating higher, but I thought it was okay. I hope the rest of the series is better. Overall, a decent read.

Exquisite and skilfully written story my only wish would be to have read the three stories at the same time. yes I did enjoy this book it was a pleasure to read. My thanks to the wonderful author Michelle Lynn and my thanks for the amazing privilege of reading her wonderful book and hope to read more of her works in the future. This book I would be delighted to recommend to all my friends. Wow, just wow.
When I was about to read this book, I thought it was going to be some historical book based in Africe or something, all patriotic, let's free slaves, black people need rights, droughts all over the continent, but really, I couldn't have been more wrong.
This book follows the story of three people, Gabby, Dawn and Drew (switches from their POV's) as they go on a journey realizing the corruption of the world they live in and basically how the government are dictating everything.
To be honest, I don't like Dawn, didn't straight from when she was first mentioned. To me, she seems like she's one of those characters that like a Eragon-Roran-situation. What is that I hear you ask? Basically it's when a non-main character/less important character or a sibling suddenly decides they're going to completely take over the plot. No. First you steal Gabby's boyfriend you will not steal her awesomeness and leadership!
And Drew.... Okay, you're a guy, you can have conflicted feelings, but setting up a love triangle? Really? Really?? The two of you can go ahead and do that to Gabby, it's not like she's been living in a slave camp with the only thing giving her hope was that you guys were safe! Those two people, just, I'm just not going to say anything else.
See, even Obama's walking away. The way they claim they're doing all this for Gabby, but are they? Are they really? Perhaps it started out that way but then they just forgot all about her and decided they'd go and fall in love. Believe it or not, you can stop yourselves falling in love, I mean you guys hated each other, if you'd kept focused on what you went to do then there wouldn't have been time for feelings.
Drew, yes I understand you're basically the school player, you were having an affair when you were with Gabby so you decided to go for innocent Dawn instead! I'm not letting go of this! Wow... I'm type shouting at a fictional character... Ah well, that how avid readers get, or maybe it's just me, but I doubt that. :3

But in all honesty, I love Gabby, and the sense of will you get from her. Michelle Lynn has a big check when it comes to the character development side of the story. You really get a sense of who all the characters are, their personalities, their reasons behind why they do everything. And who can't love Gabby's fiery spirit?

I'd really been hoping they'd get split up somehow, and isn;t it awesome that a whole unit of British soldiers were after her! (The Texas people seemed pretty suspicious of that but they were probably impressed too, yup, they seemed impressed) Okay I know that shouldn't be cool but I have a weird sense of priorities, adventure and drama taking top space, not sensibility, practicality, sense of danger, pfft, never heard of the words.
That's it guys, I'm out, I cannot write any more. Except for what I'm writing now.... 4 stars losing one for Drew and Dawn because I have no sympathy for them. This book immediately grips you, though it's a little slow in the middle adventure is a constant throughout the book, so if you're a fan of that you'll love this book. Would definitely recommend!

When I was about to read this book, I thought it was going to be some historical book based in Africe or something, all patriotic, let's free slaves, black people need rights, droughts all over the continent, but really, I couldn't have been more wrong.
This book follows the story of three people, Gabby, Dawn and Drew (switches from their POV's) as they go on a journey realizing the corruption of the world they live in and basically how the government are dictating everything.
To be honest, I don't like Dawn, didn't straight from when she was first mentioned. To me, she seems like she's one of those characters that like a Eragon-Roran-situation. What is that I hear you ask? Basically it's when a non-main character/less important character or a sibling suddenly decides they're going to completely take over the plot. No. First you steal Gabby's boyfriend you will not steal her awesomeness and leadership!
And Drew.... Okay, you're a guy, you can have conflicted feelings, but setting up a love triangle? Really? Really?? The two of you can go ahead and do that to Gabby, it's not like she's been living in a slave camp with the only thing giving her hope was that you guys were safe! Those two people, just, I'm just not going to say anything else.
See, even Obama's walking away. The way they claim they're doing all this for Gabby, but are they? Are they really? Perhaps it started out that way but then they just forgot all about her and decided they'd go and fall in love. Believe it or not, you can stop yourselves falling in love, I mean you guys hated each other, if you'd kept focused on what you went to do then there wouldn't have been time for feelings.
Drew, yes I understand you're basically the school player, you were having an affair when you were with Gabby so you decided to go for innocent Dawn instead! I'm not letting go of this! Wow... I'm type shouting at a fictional character... Ah well, that how avid readers get, or maybe it's just me, but I doubt that. :3

Michelle Lynn has created a nightmare world in her novel "Dawn of Rebellion;" a world in which Great Britain is in the hands of a brutal military dictatorship and what was once the United States of America is a ruined land deemed fit to serve as nothing more than a penal colony.
The story revolves around two sisters who, abandoned by their mother after their father is reportedly killed in an accident, hide the fact that they are alone in the world as an alternative to being sent to different foster care homes. Theirs is not a cheery existence: They live in abandoned buildings, sometimes moving as many as five times in a month, and seldom have enough to eat. Dawn, the younger of the two girls, is a good student hoping to be sent to university after high school while her older sister Gabby is an athlete destined to be placed in the military by a British government seeking to control every aspect of people's lives.
Suddenly, as if their lives aren't bad enough, things get worse.
Much, much worse.
Gabby is arrested one afternoon after stealing a small bracelet to give to Dawn for her birthday. Because she is thought to be "unsuitable" by the high-ranking military officer who is the father of the boy she is dating she is shipped off - without a trial - to "the colonies" and winds up working on a penal farm in America.
When they learn of this, Dawn and Gabby's boyfriend decide they are going to rescue her, though exactly how is something of an issue for them since there are 3,000 miles of ocean between their homes in London and the American penal colonies.
Add to that the fact they don't know exactly where Gabby is and you have the makings of a really wonderful adventure story.
Lynn has written this novel - the first in what is meant to be a series - in a fast-paced, almost cinematic style. Chapters are short and the writing is crisp. Each chapter is narrated in first person by its "author" and some are little more than a paragraph in length. As an author myself I know that it is extremely difficult to write in this fashion without losing the reader because of the rapid scene changes. As a reader I can say that Lynn manages to pull it off nicely. In my opinion, she is able to do this because there is virtually no clutter in her chapters; no meaningless descriptions of ruined landscapes or endless rants about the unfairness of life in a world gone mad. Instead, Lynn leaves it up to the reader to fill in the blanks and I, for one, appreciate the fact she is not spoon feeding me every minute detail of this adventure.
"Dawn of Rebellion" is not a long novel but it manages to be both a well-written adventure and the story of a young woman's first tentative steps into that minefield we know love can sometimes be. Additionally, this is a novel that speaks strongly and clearly about the sacrifices people make for those they love, the ties that bind families and friends to one another, courage in the face of long odds and loyalty. Despite the brevity of its chapters, there are some very poignant moments in this novel that add great emotional depth to the narrative.
I highly recommend it and, honestly, can't wait to read the second novel in this series.

Starting out from what seemed a contemporary standpoint, readers of 'Dawn of Rebellion' by Michelle Lynn are introduced to the main characters, Dawn and Gabby, as students in school. Dawn is quieter and more reserved, while her sister Gabby is outgoing, pretty much getting whatever she wants, including boys. Despite their differences, Dawn and Gabby love each other very much, and they are only have each other. Their parents are not around, due to issues beyond the girls' control, and they look out for each other as a result. When Gabby tries to pick up a present for Dawn's birthday, all trouble breaks loose, and Gabby's thieving spirit lands her in more trouble than she could have ever bargained for.
When she is sent from her home in London to the colonies, which used to be America, Gabby finds herself tested at every turn, aching to survive in an unknown world, full of people who don't trust her any more than she trusts them. The few friends she makes are hard-won, and loss is all too familiar a feeling in the slave camps in which they're all kept.
Dawn, along with Gabby's semi-boyfriend Drew, hope to come to her rescue, even though Drew has other thoughts about what he'd like to be doing - searching for his lost and estranged brother. They meet up with others who help them along their path, as well as some who want to stop them from moving forward. Through it all, despite their growing uncertainty about their feelings for each other, they stay true to their motivation for coming to the colonies.
'Dawn of Rebellion' is a feel-good story mixed with action, adventure, downtrodden spirits, and the ability to rise up when times are tough. The title, while including the main character's name, does a great job of symbolizing how Dawn learned to rebel as the novel went on, but at the same time, all of the characters learned that they had more in themselves than they would have ever believed as a means of starting to rebel against the evils of the world. All of this is poised against a backdrop of love and hard-earned trust that makes the characters brave and true. Michelle Lynn has captured bits and pieces of the human spirit and revealed how judgment and stereotypical thoughts about others can sometimes be turned on their heads and have you questioning who you can trust, and how people can change if you allow them the opportunity. I am looking forward to reading the sequel, as the novel did end on a cliffhanger, and there are some loose ends I would love to see tied up as the story progresses. Besides this and an issue with grammar or spelling here and there, the novel was a must read and kept me highly engaged.

This was a little gem! I ended up really enjoying this and devouring it over the course of a day and a half.
The story centers on 2 sisters, Dawn and Gabby. Gabby has always looked after Dawn and tried to make her life comfortable. One day while out with her boyfriend, Gabby decides that Dawn deserves something special for her birthday and steals an expensive necklace. Unfortunately she gets caught and is sent to the colonies, an undisclosed location where they are sent to be slaves for the rest of their lives. Dawn is devastated but decides that she has to try to find this place and rescue her sister. So she leaves London and travels to where they know the colonies are located, which is the old US. Where the colonies are exactly, they don't know, but Dawn and Drew are intent on finding Gabby.
The setting for the book is for an America that is no longer, it's now colonised by Britain and is used for criminals no matter how small their crime. I enjoyed this aspect of the book as usually Post Apoc books take place in America, and while this still does, it's not an America that's normal.
I liked the characters too. Gabby and Dawn have a great relationship and it was lovely to see. The fact that Dawn left everything she knows to go to an unknown world to save her sister, pretty much says it all. There are plenty of other characters too and all were well written and developed. The only character I had any reservation for was Drew. His reasoning for going to the colonies in the first place were sketchy and not mush was done about it during the book. Maybe we will find the answers in the next book, but who knows!!
In all, this book was a pleasant surprise and kept me hooked throughout. It is told from multiple POVs which worked well here because we get Dawn's story as well as seeing from Gabby's and Drew's POV. It made the book richer. I can't wait to read more in this world!!

Dawn and Gabby are all each other have. In England, things aren't the way we are used too, in this Legend Trilogy esque world, the military run everything: including the colonies, the biggest being America. When Gabby is caught stealing, she is sent away to become a slave at one of the Colony's concentration camps while Dawn and Gabby's boyfriend, Drew, trek through unknown terrain to rescue her. This is a book of love, trust, faith and a hell of a lot of determination and I loved all of it.
I received this book a couple of months ago from the author and it took me a while to pick it up, I just wasn't in the mood for a Dystopian read, but when I picked this up I found myself wanting to read every dystopian ever written. Lynn has an uncanny skill of making the reader feel that they are following the characters through this adventure, this is through her use of description. She isn't one of those authors that add in unnecessary facts or imagery, all of it is used to build the story and that is a really defining quality in dystopians.
The style of this book reminded me a bit of the Legend trilogy. Maybe that was due to the military role in the book which I enjoyed. I felt like some elements could have been more heartfelt, I almost didn't feel for Gabby when she missed Dawn and when they met Colonel Nolan *cough* It felt...awkward. If that was me, I'd be crying and kicking and screaming. They were too calm almost but each to their own.
I hate cliff hangers though! If someone wants to donate the second book to me it would be much appreciated! Read this book, you will really enjoy it!

Brilliant young adult book that tackles many adult issues. This is the story of two sisters, Dawn and Gabby, who are completely different not just in looks but in personality. Gabby is the older sister and always took care of Dawn, the more timid of the two. It also follows the point of view of Drew, a rich boy in love with Gabby. But when Gabby is sent to a prison camp in the colonies, Drew and Dawn have to join forces to rescue her. The characters all have deep complex personalities, and are not what they seem at first. It shows the power of love and family, even under extreme pressure when loyalties are put to the test.
I enjoyed each point of view, but especially liked how Dawn overcomes her prejudice of Drew, who she sees as just a spoiled rich boy. He is so much more and teaches her “Believing is not something you do just because you’re allowed to.” There is also a colorful cast of secondary characters, I really cared for like Sam and Lee, Jeremy and Amanda, and of course Claire.
The sisters have to overcome many obstacles to find each other, and once they do, things are not perfect, because their experiences have changed them. I love how their characters develop and how it shows the realistic and sometimes messy side of relationships. But in the end “Family comes first, forever and always.”
I enjoyed each point of view, but especially liked how Dawn overcomes her prejudice of Drew, who she sees as just a spoiled rich boy. Dawn of Rebellion tells the story of two sisters with an unbreakable bond that has younger sister Dawn traveling across the world into unknown dangers to try and free her sister Gabby from a slave camp. (I'll leave the summary there so as to avoid any spoilers.)
This story is fast-paced and action-packed, and the whole time I was reading, I felt like I never knew what was coming. It's told from dual perspectives, Dawn and Gabby (with a brief third perspective from their mutual friend/potential love interest Drew) which adds a neat dynamic to the story because it allows the reader to see what is happening with both of them as they are separated. As someone who loves sibling dynamics, I also enjoyed seeing their thoughts about each other and how each viewed the other's role in her life. Their character arcs were also great to see from their own first-person thought processes, as well as from each other's perspectives.
I really enjoyed this story, and even though it pretty much wrecked me emotionally, I want more!

I keep finding wonderful authors outside of my normal reading genres, and this one fits that category. I've never been a dystopia type of reader, however, the way this book started out gripped me. Being a history lover, i was intrigued when the story started off with the character in history class. The future is glib for the former US and is proof that great nations can fall greatly. The adventure begins one sister is sent to the former US which is now a barbaric penal colony.The other sister and friend risk everything to find her. Others have discussed the story more in depth, so I'll go with the writing.
This is a first person, action packed, fast paced dystopian/adventure written in alternating POV. Normally, I dislike first person, dislike Dystopia, and abhor the alternating POV However, this author really tends to make this all work and superbly. I kept reading and did so in two sittings. Whether this book is your preferred genre or not, I recommend you give it a try. The plot and writing is excellent, and it left me wanting more of the story. With penal colonies, dictatorships, and sacrifice for family... you just can't go wrong.

Dawn of Rebellion was a great start to a new series. I absolutely loved the concept of this world. In the beginning, it's not too far from the world we know, but when Gabby and Dawn arrive in the Colonies, you see just how different this world is--and how easily something like this could happen in our world. This was my favorite aspect of the book.
The author does a good job of building up the mystery around what might have happened to the USA as we know it. We know some details, but there is still a lot we don't know, which makes me anxious for the next book in the series.
The only bit of criticism I have for this book is that is doesn't feel quite polished enough. The writing is good. There really aren't any major issues with errors or anything like that. It just feels like the story and conversations weren't quite developed enough. But it didn't stop me from enjoying the book and connecting with the characters.

Dawn of Rebellion was an interesting book featuring wars of nations and their drastic results on common people. Gabby strike me as a bold and reckless young girl who often can not decide between right and wrong. She leaves her sister alone and desperate to get her back from the concentration camp. Due to her reckless attempt at stealing, Dawn and Drew are left to figure out a plan to rescue her from the remains of America. The British uses America as a sort of prison camp and try to stifle rebellious streaks of common people.
The novel is set in dystopian future and shows bleakness and hopelessness with poverty, hunger, climatic changes and violence. The novel is written wonderfully but the characters are not very interesting. The ending is exquisite and leaves no unnecessary question in mind. A definite read!

Dawn of Rebellion is a dystopian novel that tells the story of two sisters Dawn and Gabby and Gabby’s boyfriend Drew. The story is told from the points of view of all three of them and this makes it more intriguing. It is also the retold story of a time, when outcasts from Britain used to be sent off to its colonies. However, that part of the story is presented from a futuristic perspective.
Gabby is sent to the colonies, when something goes wrong. Dawn, accompanied by Drew, goes there after her, in order to save her sister from the impending dangers. What follows is an action-packed maze of violent twists and turns. The greatest twist of all, however, comes near the end. Watch out for it.

This YA fantasy book was about two sisters Dawn and Gabby who are trying to find their way in a harsh land that was once America. While this book started out with a bang it slowly fizzled to the point that I had to make myself finish it. While the authors ideas and context were a phenomenal idea, I felt this story could have done so much more. I rated this book a 3 out of 5 stars. This book may be someone else’s cup of tea, I just found this to be slow and cold.

Over all I have to say I liked this book. It was an easy, quick read but there isn't anything wrong with that. I liked all of the characters that you meet in this book.
The book takes place a type of world that we don't currently live in but I believe the author explains it well and does a great job of making it believable.
There is definitely a bit of a cliffhanger at the end. I don't know if I will read the next book right away but I am sure I will one day, because the characters are likeable enough I need to know what happens to them!

I didn't love the characters in this, but they were okay. I felt quite sorry for them at points.
This started out okay, but after a while I started to feel a bit bored unfortunately. It wasn't a bad read though, it just couldn't hold my interest very well.
