The Little Witch
The little witch was only a hundred and twenty-seven years old. That´s not at all old for a witch. She spent about six hours a day doing exercises in witchcraft, but she couldn´t get her spells right. Then she got into deep disgrace at the Walpurgis Night party. She was given a year to make herself into a good witch or be expelled. So many strange and funny things happened to her that year, she began to wonder if she would ever pass the final test.

He won the Deutscher Jugendliteraturpreis in 1972 for Krabat.

He was born in Liberec (German: Reichenberg), Czechoslovakia. His forefathers had lived in this area since the 15th century, working in the glass industry. His parents were teachers. After he graduated school in 1942, in the midst of World War II, he was drafted into the Wehrmacht Heer. Although he survived the military action on the Eastern Front, he was taken prisoner as a 21-year-old lieutenant in 1944. He spent the next five years in various POW camps in the Tatar Republic.
After his release in June 1949, he was lucky to find his displaced relatives and his fiancée, Annelies Kind in the Bavarian town of Rosenheim. They celebrated their wedding that same year.
Between 1953 and 1970 he was initially a primary school teacher, then a school principal in Rosenheim. There his talents as a storyteller and illustrator were put to good use, and often the stories he told the children would later be written down and published.
Preußler died on February 18, 2013 in Prien, Chiemsee.

"Die kleine Hexe" ist ein zeitloses Kinderbuch. 1957 wurde es veröffentlicht und bis heute ist es beliebt bei Jung und Alt. Ich kenne die Geschichte auch noch aus meiner Kindheit und habe sie damals schon geliebt.
Auch heute noch ist es schön, mit der kleinen Hexe, die mit 127 Jahren zu den Junghexen gehört, Abenteuer zu erleben und Gutes zu tun :)

As far as I can remember, I read The Little Witch (and other books by Otfried Preußler) as a little girl and really enjoyed myself. His books are among the few children's books that are still on our family's bookshelves. As a teenager and adult, I never reread them (...I'm not big on fairy tales in the first place) but I thought it would be fun to reread them now in a Russian translation.
Despite the fact that I have been learning Russian for 4 years now, I can still barely manage to read children's books, so going for a short story that I was already familiar with seemed like a good idea.
Well, what can I say? I absolutely loathed the book. First and foremost, reading it in Russian was a pain in the ass and I quickly realized that it probably won't do me any good (for my language learning) because all the vocabulary that I was unfamiliar with was so fucking specific (as in spells, other terms associated with witchcraft, the names of forest animals etc.) that I will probably never use it in my day to day life.
But more importantly, I was appalled by the racist language and depictions in the book. Don't get me wrong, I know that it was written by a white German man in the 50s, so I didn't expect anything less: racism (especially towards Black people and indigenous folks) is still wide-spread today, so why should it have been different in the 50s. However, it doesn't sit well with me that newer publications (my Russian translation is from 2019) just translate/ adopt these slurs (e.g. use of the n-word to describe Black people, but also use of the i-word to describe Native Americans and e-word to describe indigenous circumpolar peoples) without any form of (trigger) warning.
Reading one chapter in particular, where the little witch attends a carnival and all these white people are dressed up as people from other cultures (using Blackface and other stereotypical and hurtful forms of "costume"), made me very uncomfortable, especially since I know that most families who give their children these books to read won't explain to their children how harmful these words and depictions are. And that's my biggest problem with old racist children's books. Not that they exist. But that we allow them to dehumanise marginalised people (and sometimes whole cultures) without any comment.
And to top it all of, I thought that the story sucked ass. The premise of the book (the little witch being shunned by the elder witches and having to prove herself within one year to be a good witch) is so boring and the way the story is set up (basically every chapter focuses on another "adventure" during which the little witch saves or helps another person or animal) was so repetitive, it soon became unbearably boring. Furthermore, the "lessons" that the little witch learns are so fucking weird and made me uncomfortable as well. Basically she learns to separate humans (and animals) into good and evil, and that good people deserve our help and "evil" people need to be punished, sometimes by severe means of torture. It's such a shit lesson. I hate it here.
So, the combination of a frustrating translation, racism and an overall shit story made this a whopping one-star book for me. Deal with it.

Heia, Walpurgisnacht!
Nach sorgfältiger Lektüre von Mannie's Review, in dem sein Unterbewusstsein einen Bezug von Die kleine Hexe zum "Dritten Reich" herstellen möchte, bin ich neugierig geworden. Ich habe das Buch zuletzt 1969 gelesen. Da war ich fünf oder sechs Jahre alt. Möglicherweise wurde es mir also auch vorgelesen. Jedenfalls war ich froh, diese alte Ausgabe noch in einem der Bücherschränke zu finden. Die meisten meiner Kinder- und Jugendbücher habe ich inzwischen "freigelassen".
Kurz zum Inhalt: Eine kleine Hexe (im zarten Alter von 127 Jahren) wünscht sich nichts sehnlicher, als einmal bei der Walpurgisnacht teilzunehmen, dem alljährlichen Hexenfest auf dem Blocksberg (den wir heute als Brocken kennen). Entgegen dem Ratschlag ihres weisen Beraters Abraxas, einem Raben, schleicht sie sich verbotenerweise auf das Fest, wird aber entdeckt, und muss zur Strafe ohne Besen den weiten Weg nach Hause laufen.(*) Außerdem musste die kleine Hexe versprechen, bis zum nächsten Jahr eine gute Hexe zu werden. Ihre Bemühungen, dieses Versprechen einzulösen, davon handelt der Hauptteil dieses Buches. Nach einem Jahr treffen sich alle Hexen wieder, und es kommt zum Showdown auf dem Blocksberg. Vorher muss die kleine Hexe aber natürlich noch viel lernen, unter anderem durch das Lesen des Hexenbuchs:
Der Hauptkonflikt, wie er sich in meinen Augen darstellt, besteht in der unterschiedlichen Sichtweise der Hexen über die Begriffe "gut" und "böse". Für die alten Hexen ist eine Hexe gut, wenn sie gut hexen kann, und dabei den Menschen Schaden zufügt. Die kleine Hexe hingegen empfindet sich dann als gut, wenn sie den Menschen bei ihren Problemen hilft. Der Rabe Abraxas stellt dabei in gewisser Weise die moralische Instanz dar. Er ist es nämlich, der der kleinen Hexe immer wieder den aus seiner Sicht richtigen Weg weist.
Man kann durchaus Teile dieses Buches als eine Allegorie auf die Nazizeit in Deutschland lesen. Die Gesellschaft der bösen Hexen stellt dabei die Herrschenden dar, während die kleine Hexe zunächst ambivalent erscheint. Geblendet von der Ausgelassenheit beim Hexenfest ist ihr Wunsch dabei zu sein, sich also der Masse anzuschließen, sehr groß. Selbst als ihr als Strafe für ihr Vergehen angedroht wird, sie zu verbrennen, merkt sie zunächst nicht, in welche gefährlichen Kreise sie aufgenommen werden möchte. Ohne ihren Raben, wäre sie vermutlich auch den Lockungen erlegen, und zu einer "bösen" Hexe geworden. So aber gelingt es ihr, die Hexenpropaganda zu enttarnen, und wirklich Gutes zu tun. (Das Kapitel mit dem Blumenmädchen hat mir übrigens am besten gefallen)
Ich würde jedoch die Interpretation etwas weiter fassen wollen, und zwar über die Naziherrschaft hinaus. Nach dem Krieg und der Entnazifizierung gab es in Deutschland immer noch viele Menschen, die gut und böse nicht so recht auseinander halten konnten, oder wollten. "Es war nicht alles schlecht", war bis in die 1960er Jahre hinein ein durchaus salonfähiger Ausspruch. Ich denke, die kleine Hexe zielt mit ihren guten Taten, bei denen bösen Menschen "Denkzettel" verpasst werden, genau gegen diese Individuen. Außerdem stellt sich die kleine Hexe immer wieder auch auf die Seite der Schwächeren, der Alten und Armen, also der Unterprivilegierten. Für mich endet die Naziherrschaft bereits nach dem dritten Kapitel. Die bösen Hexen vom Anfang tauchen zwar am Ende wieder auf, aber das sind für mich andere böse Hexen, die es nun zu bekämpfen gilt. Im Laufe des Buches taucht zwei- oder dreimal auch eine dunkle, bedrohliche, Wolke auf, in der sich vermutlich eine böse Hexe versteckt, und die guten Taten der kleinen Hexe beobachtet. Ich will den Text aber auch nicht überinterpretieren. Immerhin handelt es sich in erster Linie immer noch um ein Kinderbuch.
Erwähnenswert finde ich noch die Tatsache, dass es inzwischen auch eine bereinigte Fassung des Textes gibt. Einige Leute, darunter die damalige deutsche Familienministerin, nahmen Anstoß an dem Wort "Neger" (genauer gesagt "Negerlein", denn es wird im Buch nur im Diminutiv verwendet). Sie wollten es durch einen politisch korrekten Ausdruck ersetzt wissen. Dies ist auch geschehen (mit Einwilligung des Autors) und aus den "Negerlein" wurden "Messerwerfer" (man muss das Buch lesen, um zu verstehen, warum dies in gewisser Weise sogar Sinn macht). Ich selbst fühle mich dabei nicht besonders wohl. Zum einen wird das Wort in keiner Weise rassistisch verwendet, und zum anderen war es nun mal damals (Erstausgabe 1957) ein gebräuchliches Wort. Ich verstehe auch die Eltern nicht so ganz, die scheinbar nicht willens oder in der Lage sind, mit ihren Kindern über die Problematik zu diskutieren. Darüber hinaus sehe ich die Gefahr, dass durch wiederholte "Anpassung" eines Textes an neue Sprachweisen nach und nach der Sinn des Textes komplett verfälscht wird. Nicht anderes war schließlich die Aufgabe von Winston Smith als Mitarbeiter des Wahrheitsministeriums in Orwell's 1984. Ich könnte nun auch argumentieren, dass das Wort "Hexe" politisch nicht korrekt ist. Es gibt (soviel mir bekannt ist), gar keine Hexen, und Menschen bzw. Frauen als "Hexe" zu bezeichnen halte ich für sexistisch. Was bleibt aber von diesem Buch, wenn man "Hexe" durch einen korrekten Ausdruck ersetzen würde?

A perfectly delightful Halloween listen. The titular “little witch” is just 127 years old (“and for a witch that is not very old at all”). All she wants is to dance at the witches’ sabbath on Walpurgis night with the big witches, but alas, she’s still a little too young. But if she’s a good witch all year…
Like Preußler’s equally wonderful Krabat, The Little Witch is magical in a deep and affecting way that has more to do with how it captures the passage of time, the turning of the seasons, the antics of squirrels and birds and the small dramas of daily life, than with its more literal witchcraft. The version I heard was delightfully told by Lina Beckmann in a variety of appropriately silly voices.
As a side note, I’ve learnt from other reviews that the original edition has a racist carnival scene, where all the village children dress up, “it’s a small world” style, as racial and ethnic stereotypes. This was seamlessly updated, in the version I heard, to princesses, dragons, robbers, etc., which I very much appreciate.

Die Kleine Hexe -- 2013 Kindle Edition
When I was a young child in Germany, Otfried Preußler's 1957 children's classic Die kleine Hexe (The Little Witch in English translation) and how she learns to be a successful spell caster and equally to also rebel and actively stand against the older witches for whom being a good witch means by nature and necessity being a curmudgeonly and evil one, this was one of my favourite bedtime stories (a lovely and imaginative tale, totally in tune with childhood wonder but also presenting an important message and lesson that to become good at something, such as with the little witch's attempts to practice, improve and perfect her sorcery, this indeed should also always mean obtaining success without doing harm to others, that one's own success should never be painful for others and should also be helpful to and for society).
And yes, if I were to simply read Die kleine Hexe as a story in and of itself (and of course, this also would mean reading the original 1957 version) I would most certainly be gladly and smilingly ranking this book with a solid five stars (and a permanent place on my favourites shelf). But sadly, I do not (or rather I no longer) own a copy of the latter and the 2013 Kindle edition of Die kleine Hexe unfortunately presents some rather sillily ignorant modern-day word changes and omissions, where for example, village children celebrating carnival dressed as negroes in 1957, in 2013, they have been labelled and described as knife throwers instead, and words such as gypsy have also been removed and expunged because of supposed political incorrectness (totally naive and at best problematic in my opinion for a children's novel penned and published in 1957, and really, if parents etc. have issues with some of the words used in Die kleine Hexe they should simply discuss this with their children instead of like what has indeed happened, officially whining and complaining to the publisher and actually getting Thienemann Verlag to not only change around these oh so "horrible" words but also to seemingly and quite strongly bully and cajole Otfried Preußler's family to agree to these changes, as Preußler himself was certainly always and rightfully so totally against any such censorship, alterations and removals).
And thus, while I do still love love love Die kleine Hexe, there is no way that I am going to be ranking the 2013 Kindle edition with its to and for me both totally unnecessary and also inappropriate textual changes with more than three stars (and sadly since ALL post 2013 versions of Die kleine Hexe whether they be e-books or traditional dead tree tomes do seem to present and include the above mentioned alterations and omissions, I would certainly and very strongly suggest that interested readers consider trying to obtain older and as such pre 2013 versions of this book).
Furthermore and indeed most definitely, I also categorically am pointing out that no indeed, I for one absolutely have never thought and will never think as some reviewers seem to believe that Otfried Preußler's narrative, that his Die kleine Hexe is in any manner supposed to represent with the battle and juxtaposition of the good little witch and the evil older witches some kind of allegory of National Socialism. For honestly, the older witches making the little witch's life miserable, they are simply run of the mill nasties and yes the kind one often encounters in good versus evil fairy and fantasy stories and on a global level at that (and furthermore, in my opinion, if Die kleine Hexe were in fact not a post WWII German children's literature classic, I for one seriously do doubt that anyone would even consider the possibility of the storyline and themes being somehow and strangely related to Naziism).

Ist eine gute Hexe wirklich eine so schlechte Hexe?
Da meine Tochter noch nicht selbst lesen kann, aber – zum Glück – eine unbändige Neugierde auf Bücher hat, hat sie mich zu ihrem regelmäßigen Vorleser ernannt. Das kann manchmal sehr zermürbend sein – wenn es um Bücher mit rosafarbenen Einhörnern geht, die grenzdebil wiehernd durch die Luft fliegen und Regenbögen kotzen (oder so ähnlich) –, doch in den meisten Fällen ist es ausgesprochen schön, vor allem weil mich meine Tochter immer wieder mit Fragen zum Gelesenen unterbricht.
Als ich Otfried Preußlers Die kleine Hexe mit meiner Tochter las, war ich zunächst einmal überrascht, daß ich das Buch als viel aufregender, lebhafter und bunter in Erinnerung hatte. Aber eine gewisse Ernüchterung muß man bisweilen in Kauf nehmen, wenn man Kindheitsklassiker wieder hervorkramt. Andererseits bemerkte ich recht schnell, daß diese Geschichte es meiner Tochter sehr angetan hatte: Die kleine Hexe will beim Hexentanz mitmachen und bemüht sich deshalb nach Kräften darum eine – wie die Oberhexe es von ihr verlangt hatte – gute Hexe zu werden. Dann, am Tage der Abrechnung, muß sie erkennen, daß in Hexenkreisen unter „gut“ verstanden wird die Fähigkeit, Böses effizient zu tun. Über diese zwei Bedeutungen des Wortes „gut“ wollte meine Zuhörerin dann allerdings ausführlichst reden – und auch darüber, daß die kleine Hexe manchmal Gutes tat, oder dies behauptete, indem sie anderen – bösen – Leuten Schaden zufügte.
Ich hätte nicht gedacht, daß solche Fragen meine Tochter von selbst aufgefallen wären, aber es wird wohl auch daran liegen, daß der Text selbst recht einfach – sieht man einmal von einigen altertümlichen Worten ab – geschrieben ist, so daß der Inhalt einem Kind sofort klar wird. Insofern kann ich sagen, daß das Reden über das Buch mit meiner Tochter für mich die Hauptschwäche des Textes – das weitgehende Fehlen von Humor und die oft episodenhafte Darstellung – beinahe schon wieder wettgemacht macht.
Interessant finde ich übrigens auch die Ausführungen des Mitrezensenten Manny, der in der Rahmenhandlung des Buches eine verschlüsselte Auseinandersetzung Preußlers mit dem Nationalsozialismus sieht …

Ich kann mich nicht erinnern, ob ich das Buch als Kind besaß. Vielleicht kannte ich es nur aus der Schulbibliothek.

Die Zeichnungen sind sehr sehr schön. Die haben mich am meisten begeistert.
Inhaltlich spricht es mich nicht mehr so an wie als Kind.
Aber das Buch ist einfach trotzdem ein Stück Kindheit und es kommen Erinnerungen hoch.

Laut der Widmung im Buch, hat mir meine Mutter dieses Buch zu Weihnachten geschenkt, als ich gerade 6 Jahre alt geworden bin. Somit habe ich hier noch eine der politisch unkorrigierten Ausgaben, in denen noch gewichst wird ;)
Es tat richtig gut, dieses Buch nach all den Jahren wieder zu lesen. Und im Gegensatz zu vielen anderen Büchern aus meiner Kindheit, scheine ich diesem hier nicht entwachsen zu sein.
Die Abenteuer der kleinen Hexe haben mich wie früher schon erfreut und mir sehr viel Spass gemacht. Irgendwie hat das Buch eine tiefe Sehnsucht in mir geweckt. Eine Sehnsucht nach der Zeit, als wir im Winter noch Schnee hatten und ich mit unserem Hund durch die Wälder gestreift bin.
Unterdessen merkt man der Geschichte ihr Alter ein wenig an, aber das vergrössert den Charme der Hexe nur noch mehr. Es zeigt den heutigen Kindern noch immer eine Welt, in der Kinder auf Bäume geklettert sind und die Leute noch Holz sammeln mussten, um es warm zu haben.
Ich hoffe sehr, dass die kleine Hexe noch viele Generationen von Kindern erleben wird.

"Die Kleine Hexe" wurde in meinem Geburtsjahr 1957 veröffentlicht. Ich besitze sowohl die alte Ausgabe als auch die Neuausgabe vom Thienemann Verlag von 07/2013 ohne rassistisch diskriminierende Sprache, geändert durch Otfried Preußler selbst noch vor seinem Tod 02/2013.
Ich meine, dass niemand heute noch die alte Ausgabe lesen muss um dann die rassistische Sprache zu kritisieren und das Buch abzuwerten. Man kann jederzeit zur neuen Ausgabe greifen.
Für mich ist es immer noch eines der schönsten Kinderbücher.

This was honestly everything I had hoped it would be: it had a fun look at "witch culture," a talking raven familiar, great illustrations, and a surprise ending! My kids enjoyed it, too, and it was a fun read aloud.

Little witch is only one hundred and twenty-seven years old and still too young to attend the annual Walpurgis Night party. No matter how much she practices her witchcraft exercises she is unable to get her spells just right. Despite Raven's warning she sneaks in the Walpurgis Night party despite her young age and experience. When her mean old aunt spots her she announces her presence to everyone so that the Head witch has to punish her. She has a year (next Walpurgis Night) to be a good witch. We follow Little witch go through the seasons trying to make right.
I really enjoyed this cute story about a witch trying to be a good witch but realizes her definition may not be the same as everyone else's. This is a story I would have devoured as a child as I had an obsession with the supernatural even then. Witches were always my favourite and my poor mom had to come up with a different costume each Halloween (because there are only a hundred different kinds of witches - at least!). I would rate this story for about 7 or 8 years old and above - depending on the child. It is not an overly scary story but think of Roald Dahl's The Witches (a favourite of mine).

Definitely one of my fave children books!
I remember having a Vinyl of it and I loved to listen to it. It was super scary (for kids) but just perfectly made. I guess there isn't any children book I love more.
Fuck all the princess stories like Cinderella, I definitely preferred this kind of stories!

Hat mir sehr gut gefallen :D Wobei fast alle Probleme, die die kleine Hexe löst (und auch einige ihrer Lösungen), heutzutage strafrechtlich verfolgt werden würden (Tierquälerei, Misshandlung, unterlassene Hilfeleistung...).

Daudz vēlāk uzzināju par teoriju, ka 1957.gadā rakstītajā grāmatā labā un ļaunā samainīšana vietām varētu būt mājiens uz neseno Vācijas pagātni.
Bet ļoti labi atceros, cik valdzinoši biedējoša bija doma par negaisa mākoni, kas patiesībā ir ragana - ļaunā krustmāte Rumpumpele. Un kurš otrklasnieks negribētu runājošu kraukli, kurš dod padomus un kurā pieaugušie atpazīst sirdsapziņu? Īsteni laba bērnu grāmata, vienvārdsakot.

Da ich wegen meinem Arbeitspensum im Moment aber einfach keine Muse finde, um zu lesen, musste ich mir zumindest das Hörbuch anhören (Hörbücher gehen schließlich immer und irgendwie muss ich ja an meine Geschichten kommen ;)).
Im Folgenden beziehe ich mich daher vor allem auf die neue Hörbuchversion "Die kleine Hexe", gelesen von Karoline Herfurth. Ich mag Frau Herfurth unglaublich gerne als Schauspielerin und auch als Sprecherin konnte sie mich restlos begeistern und hat die Geschichte um die kleine Hexe wirklich zu einem Erlebnis gemacht. this used to be my favorite childhood book, but I guess some classics don't age as well as (imo) Roald Dahl or Jacqueline Wilson's novels. Mostly sad that I decided to reread it and ruin the perfect whimsical memories:'(!
I still enjoyed the atmosphere and witches' lore, but what lost me was repetitiveness of some adventures. Nor did I think the ending was genius like a decade ago :DD

I finished reading this year's first book "The Little Witch" in English. The book is for children written by my favorite German author, Tfried Preussler. It is interesting, but I cannot find his any books in foreign publishers. So, I bought it from a Japanese publisher. I have a memory about the book.
When I was a college student, I had been learning German as my third language for two years. I already forgot it since I have not used the language after graduation. However, while I had been learning German, the book written in German was my textbook. I had learned grammar from the book. It was my first book to read in German. I have an experience that once I visited to German, I bought a wooden small Christmas ornament of the witch there. I have still kept it and put it in my kitchen cabinet. So, I have thought someday I would like to read the book in English again. That is because both the story and the illustration of the book are very cute.
After I kept on reading, I remembered many things that relates to my college days. Today I called one of my college friends who took the same German class with me. I also went to German with her. We talked about the days when we were young for one hour. We also exchanged our current information. I like talking with my friends who has been friends with me since we were students. We can get back the days when we were young easily. We have lots of memories that we can share. I would like to appreciate the book because thanks to the book, I enjoyed a reunion with my friend. The little witch in the story is one hundred and twenty-seven years old... a mere youngster in that species. She lives alone in a witch's house in the middle of the wood with her talking pet raven Abraxas.
Every year the older witches, on Walpurgis Night, gather to dance the night away on Brocken Mountain. It's a huge celebration for witches all across the land. Little witch is far too young to attend so she decides to sneak in anyway and join in on the frivolity. She is exposed by her evil aunt Rumpumpel and humiliated in front of her peers. They abscond her broomstick and burn it to ashes. With no means of transportation she must walk for three days to get back to her home. She is given the edict that she has one full year to do some astounding good witchcraft if she is to be invited back to this festive occasion on Walpurgis Night ever again.
Will little witch be able to behave and do good for a whole year? Does she even know what a good witch is? She decides the best revenge she can have is to prove to her witch elders that they are wrong... that she will and can become a super-hero little witch doing good to those in peril. She comes to the rescue of many who are unable to help themselves and thus proves to herself and to the other witches that she is the best and "goodest" witch of all.

Το βιβλίο που με έσωσε και που ηταν το μονο που μπορεσα να συγκεντρωθώ να διαβασω σε μια πολύ δυσκολη προσωπική στιγμή, οταν ειχα τον μπαμπά μου στο νοσοκομείο.
Η παιδική αθωότητα ειναι τόσο αφοπλιστική, που σου φερνει δάκρυα. Ο τροπος που (πρεπει να) εξηγούμε στα παιδια ειναι τοσο βάναυσα ειλικρινής, ειναι το τελευταιο καταλοιπο ανθρωπιάς και αθωότητας που μας εχει μεινει στον πλανήτη.
Συχνα τα γερμανικά παραμυθια με σώζουν. Το εχει κανει και ο Μιχαελ Εντε, οι αδερφοί Γκριμ και άλλοι.
Η εικονογραφηση ειναι φανταστική. Αν δεν κανω λαθος νομιζω οτι ειναι του ιδιου του συγγραφέα. Αλλά μπορει να κανω και λάθος.
Δεν εχει τοση σημασια αυτο. Σημασια εχει κυρίως οτι η φαντασια θα σωσει τον κοσμο (μας)
Και οτι τα παραμυθια ειναι σημαντικά. Διατηρουν το παιδι μεσα μας.

Really cute story about a witch who wants nothing more than to dance with the older witches on Walpurgisnacht. She has to prove that she is worthy of it, so for a whole year we follow the witch as she does her best to be good and learn more witchcraft. Very different ending from what I envisioned and perhaps not the best for children, but I still enjoyed it.

Süß! Etwas anders als in meiner Erinnerung. Schon interessant, Kinderbücher nochmal aus einer neuen Perspektive zu lesen.
Ich denke das Buch hat mich gelehrt, dass man an seinen Träumen festhalten sollte und man sich selbst von einem unfreundlichen Umfeld nicht dazu anstiften lassen sollte, schlecht zu handeln.
