Eat Happy has 154 delicious grain-free, gluten-free recipes that are also free of any processed sugars. If you are low carb, paleo, are wanting to keep autoimmune issues at bay, or just want to lose extra weight, Eat Happy gives you comfort food where you won’t miss the sugars or grains so your body and brain can feel happy from eating real foods. In 2012, after almost ten years of being gluten free due to celiac, Anna Vocino found she was gaining weight faster than a tick on a labradoodle. Turns out the culprit wasn’t overeating or too much fat in the diet, but the pesky sugars and grains in all those gluten free comfort foods. When Anna started podcasting with Fitness Confidential author Vinnie Tortorich, she adapted her entire way of eating to do what Tortorich NSNG—No Sugars No Grains. Sure enough, the weight dropped off, the inflammation due to celiac finally calmed down, and for the first time in her life, she learned what it meant to be truly happy about food. All of Anna’s recipes are delicious, easy to make, and so satisfying, you won’t even know you’re eating healthy. Craving rich, decadent chocolate pots with fresh cream that are delicious but not fattening? Wanna make a grain-free pizza crust that actually helps you lose weight? Dying for pancakes, but you’ve committed to avoiding carbs? How about hearty shepherd’s pie, tater tots, sizzling ginger rice, all made with cauliflower instead of high carb rice and potatoes? Eat Happy offers low carb comfort foods to please the entire family.
Anna is the author of Eat Happy and Eat Happy Too. Her cookbooks are filled with gluten and grain free recipes that celebrate her half Southern, half Italian-girl heritage. She hopes you enjoy every tasty recipe from cover to cover.
AMAZING cookbook! I was diagnosed type 2 diabetic three years ago. Removing grains and sugar from my diet was a must. This cookbook helps me so I don’t feel like I’m missing out. The recipes are delicious, not just as low carb food, but just food in general! I’ve cooked for guests that aren’t low carb and everyone always raves over it.
Recipes are super simple to follow but so much flavor! Also, so many different types of recipes that you won’t get bored! It shows just how flexible low carb/grain free cooking can be!!
These recipes are pretty easy. Not a ton of ingredients, but they are all whole foods. We've made a few recipes already and have enjoyed them. Can't wait to try more. Thanks Anna!
Once I got past the first 2 sections of meat (granted this didn't say it was vegetarian and didn't have to BE vegetarian, but somehow I felt like ~50 pages of meat was too much considering the vegetable cover.) I marked a few (4) of the vegetable and side dishes to make again, but overall this book was a let-down, reframing common recipes like chicken milanese (basically fried chicken with almond flour) and guac (cause if i'm old enough to invest in cookbooks then I probably already know how to make guac). Additionally, salt is everywhere and while I know that salt is how to make bland food taste better, I want food that tastes good without pouring on the salt. Also...lots of cheese and heavy cream. Lastly, I didn't like the typewriter font. I know why she used it, but I didn't like it.
If you love to cook and love amazing food, buy this
This is my new favorite cookbook. I’ve made Anna’s recipes before, and they’ve always been wonderful. Her approach with this book allows you to create hearty dishes at home that are delicious and satisfying and good for you. I have celiac disease, and the adjustments to these dishes that make them gluten free do not compromise a bit of flavor. I’ve loved everything I’ve made from it!
Recommend to anyone who has given up sugars and grains. This book will also help people who want to eat a nice healthy meal and not feel hungry an hour later.
It a very simple and easy recipe guide so even a novice should have an easy time in the kitchen.
Great cookbook with lots of ideas for gluten free foods. Lots of recipes that I want to try. Color pictures and really simple easy to read instructions and ingredient lists with very little random chatter from the author. A great straight to the point book.
I'm not living the philosophy of this book but I was hoping to snag a few good ideas. I wound up returning it to the library without snagging anything. There are good ideas here for the truly gluten free people - just not for me.
I love this cook book, it is my favorite! The no sugar/no grain recipes are in our regular meal planning rotation. My family even enjoys the food I've made from the Eat Happy recipes. Thank you Anna Vocino!
Fantastic easy low carb recipes. No fake ingredients with the word "KETO" slapped on. This is one of those recipe books where the author actually tested the recipes first. Thanks Anna, I recommend this and the second book to others all the time.
I love this cookbook for all of the healthy and delicious recipes that allows for a low carb, no sugar, no seed oil way of eating. This is for anyone out there who desires quality nutrition and amazing meal ideas.
Have tried some of the recipes and every one of them has made me want to try another! Made the Rosemary Sweet Potato Hash tonight and, for someone whose only previous experience with sweet potatoes was that hideous dish with the melted marshmallows, it was a revelation. So delicious! Fathead pizza is another big favorite at our house. If you're like me and not a gourmet, but have the basics down, this is a great place to find recipes that will make you feel good and impress those you feed - including yourself! Thanks, Anna! We're feeling the love!
Here's the thing about cookbooks: most of the time the percentage of things you'd actually want to cook after reading the recipes is pretty low and they're so damned expensive! The only way I can justify buying a cookbook is that I'm going to want to try at least 80% or more of the recipes.
There are next to no duds here. I kept flipping pages and waiting to be disappointed and there wasn't anything that looked it was anything but snashingly tasty. I checked this out from Tacoma Public Library and now I want to buy it. Good job, Anna Vocino, you're the first person to make gluten free food seem exciting and worth the effort. Five full stars.
