The Anti-Inflammation Zone: Reversing the Silent Epidemic That's Destroying Our Health – Combat Chronic Disease in 30 Days Through Proven Nutrition and Lifestyle Strategies
Combat silent inflammation -- the most serious health threat you never heard of Heart disease is the #1 killer of Americans. Cancer is the #1 fear of Americans. Dementia is the #1 concern of Americans. What do these devastating illnesses have in common? All three have been linked to silent inflammation, a condition that occurs when the body's natural immune response goes awry. Silent inflammation attacks the heart, arteries, and even the brain -- and you will not even know it. Obesity is the primary cause of silent inflammation and excess body fat is causing today's epidemic rise in countless health threats. Now Dr. Barry Sears shows you how to combat silent inflammation in this comprehensive guide. His research shows that following the Zone dietary plan, including supplements of ultrarefined fish oil concentrates, is the best way to ensure the future of your health. You can reduce your risk of each disease and condition, or reverse silent inflammation if you have it already -- in only thirty days . The Anti-Inflammation Zone includes a week of Zone meals, exercises that you can do at home, and tools and tests for determining your level of silent inflammation. Follow this plan and enjoy these benefits:
I think that the Zone diet in general brings valid points, but is hard to keep up with 100% of the time. Everything in moderation is a better approach for long term maintenance. I felt like the author uses scare tactics and I don't like that approach. I can summarize the book for you by saying take fish oil, follow the Zone diet, exercise and reduce your stress. These are all pretty duh and nothing mind altering. He emphasizes fish oil over and over again. I cant stand the taste of most fish and the thought of taking an oil that may either make me smell like it or taste it repulses me. Anyone have success with it?
Bottom Line: I already summed it up for you! No need to read.
I read this on Audiobook. I like listening to audiobooks, especially when read by the author. I like reading books on general wellness and I thought this book would give me insight on this.
Luckily, I use my public library because this book would have not been worth the purchase. This author names a "serious" condition we all probably have called "silent inflammation". After this big reveal, every other sentence in this book had the words, "silent inflammation" which of course, you will not have if you follow his anti-inflammation zone recipe. He also used words often such as insidious when describing illnesses. He was really trying to ingrain into your brain this terror tactic which I found appalling.
The health information and help he gave was no help at all. The information was the basic watch what you eat, exercise and de-stress. The ONLY thing he said different was to take high doses of Omega-3 supplements. The four major diseases he said he was helping us steer away from were the basic ones too, Heart disease, cancer, diabetes and Alzheimer's disease.
This book is a blatant, self-advertisement to read more of his books or products.
The concepts are great, the delivery just good. A lot of repetitions like most American non-fiction books written for the layman. Also, I didn't care much for the performance in the audiobook. However, I very much agree with the content and learned from this book.
- increase your omega 3’s by taking a high dose, high quality fish oil tablet - control your insulin by monitoring the Glycemic Index of your food - do moderate exercise - control your stress - eat carbs, fat and protein all in moderation - watch out for contamination in fish and fish oil (high levels of Mercury)
Lucy Whitaker was a strong willed woman and Sir Robert Benson was a proud man and the two were about to butt heads! Would they become adversaries or join forces against unknown foes?
I liked the book because it had sidebars of unknowns thrown in and it kept the flow of the book moving. I loved the characters and I loved the description of the areas because it truly sounded like a real place. I felt the author tied the storyline together and the mystery was just enough to want me to keep turning the pages.
I would recommend this book.
I received an advanced copy from NetGalley and these are my willingly given thoughts and opinions.
Wow--this story had so many rich pockets of life. Lucy is our heroine--independent and running an estate that is not hers. But... she knows one day the owner will show up and she'll most likely be out. She's done such a good job that we are rooting for her! Rob--we just love him. Poor thing finds out he's the unclaimed offspring of some rich guy and has been lied to all his life. As a hot-blooded male, he storms off to fight abroad never to return. Until his half-sis summons him home. Guess what? He has inherited Lucy's "home" against his will. I was deeply moved to see these 2 find love in each other. Wonderful and heart-warming!
I hated this book, but gave it two stars because the information is good. Dr. Sears really needed to write this book for the layperson; there were entire chapters that were so full of hard to understand medical jargon I thought I would have to stop reading, but anyone who knows me knows that would never happen. And if I see the word eicosanoid one more time, I think I'll scream. Too technical, but good information if you can wade through the scientific terminology bog.
This is the first book in a new series. Willowbrook is the place that she loves. How can she make the heir feel the same way about it? Robert and Lucy are the perfect pair in this novel of intriguing details and love. Caroline Warfield writes an intriguing story. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. This in no way affects my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
I learned a lot about how the body works for and against itself. Learning how the body works is the first step to fixing problems. So, I’m grateful for the author’s knowledge that he shared. As for the zone, I will take insights from the author regarding inflammation- causing foods, but to 100% be on the zone plan is not realistic for me. And no, I cannot imagine that much fish oil, either.
Fish oil, fish oil, fish oil. I have never read so much about fish oil. Luckily, I already take it so it wasn’t new news to me. The author suggests some basic common sense stuff - exercise, cut out processed foods, destress. He provides an easy way to do it. It wasn’t anything mind blowing or new... eh, it was all right.
Lucy Whitaker has been taking care of Willowbrook knowing it would never be hers but she guards if the loss heir. Sir Robert Benson left Ashmead the day he found out that he was the earl's bastard and not the father he though was his but as his sister's request he come back Can they work together and find a way to both be owners of willowbrook this was a great bood’
Solid read, some great pointers and things to consider / think about relating to how silent inflammation can destroy your health, and how to combat this inflammation. It is written by a physician so at times is a little dense, but still pretty approachable and easy to follow along. Definitely many practical suggestions and advice given, on how to live a better, more healthy life.
Read the French translation version and perused it. I read the sections more relevant to me. Lots of good info to keep in mind when I make food choices.
I enjoyed this book, but the series is off kilter. This author tried to stay with the plot, but it seemed a little forced. I realized that not all the books were written by the same person. I have read all so far and this was my second favorite. I liked the storyline and it. The heroine was so in love with her childhood hero. The description of the surroundings saved this story from being insipid. They met when their fathers were stationed in India. And the descriptions were as if I was there. Then they moved to England and the descriptions were very ton related. I felt that the hero had some missed opportunities and I don't know if this is because the author was writing to keep the story a certain length, but it wasn't right that the hero kept his almost death experience from the heroine. I didnt understand that part of the book and I think it needs to be revisited. In my opinion, if the hero was willing to send an expensive gift to a woman who was not his betrothed, which was absolutely forbidden at the time, why didnt he tell her about his injuries and why he had been out of contact for so long? And for him to go home, forbid his mother from sharing that he returned was just as bad. Once he took over the estate and was making decisions and meeting with stewards and solicitors, there was no need to keep it secret. He wasn't that far away from London, based on his travelling times. So, I give this book a solid 4 stars with a recommend to read.
The Lyons Den & extraordinarie Mrs. Dove-Lyon come up to scratch once again! This woman must have some amazing contacts because she seems to be able to pull off some of the most unbelievable marriage contracts! It’s to bad these computer dating services doesn’t have her panacea! lol 😂 Opal Jones knew as a young girl that Peter Ravenshaw was destined to be the only man who she wanted for her husband! Even as a debutante no longer and on the cusp of spinsterhood at the ripe old age of 22, I wonder what society would have called my daughter at 32? Well, Peter returned from war a changed man, but what man doesn’t? My husband and son both did!! Peter felt she was in love with an ideal of the younger and more idealistic boy! Opal of course disagreed and this is where the story takes on a life of its own and enter the Lyons Den and the calculating Mrs. Dove-Lyon! This author took the Lyon’s Den Series Quest yet another dimension and it was done very well! The book touched on P.T.S.D. which I think is an important part of our life because not only does it factor in with soldiers, but those who suffer any type of major isolation issues and lots of other issues can have PTSD!! I received this advanced copy from NetGalley and I willingly give my thoughts and opinions!!
I have been following this series, and I believe that this is the best adventure into the Lyons Den that Elizabeth Ellen Carter has written. Opal and Peter grew up in India as children of Royal Officers serving the Crown. Together they discover each other and have many adventures that form a close bond. But time moves on and Opal, as a young lady, is in London and Peter is serving in India. The distance causes a lapse in their relationship that makes Opal question Peter’s feelings. However, she does not realize that Peter has been wounded and several of his command, killed. Peter returns home a different man than when he left to serve. As Opal realizes someone must help her pursuit, she hires the one and only Mrs. Dove Lyon of the Lyons Den. The mighty Lyon of Matchmaking is only too happy to help Opal find a way to capture her love interest. For money of course, and a lovely piece of Indian Jewelry. But will it work or will the Lyon sleep through the night?
I have not read any of the books in this series so maybe I am missing something but the big deal with using the services of the Lyon's Den was just weird.
Opal decides that Peter is not going to do anything about marriage so she decides to push him into a card game to win her hand???! I just don't get it and it seemed kind of manipulative to me that she force Peter into this.
At times, I was confused as Opal would go back into the past and remember events and I didn't feel there was much notice when it went from present time to the past.
I also didn't know if a previous book tells about Amber and Miles and why he left her at the altar or is that explained in a future book?? It was kind of annoying as it was a side story but not much was explained.
I might try another book in this series to give it another chance but this was just an ok romance and HEA for me.
A few weeks ago I learned about "the Zone diet," which was coined by Dr. Barry Sears. According to the Zone diet, it is eicosanoids that promote wellness, not losing weight. Eicosanoids are hormones within a zone. Dr. Barry claims that most diseases are caused by inflammation. Eicosanoids control inflammation, so the key to wellness is to keep moderate amount of eicosanoids in your body. Dr. Barry also emphasizes that the most dangerous symptom is "silent inflammation" because basically you can't notice the symptom directly but you are not well. In order to prevent silent inflammation, it is necessary both to balance three hormones (Pro-inflammatory eicosanoids, Insulin, Cortisol) and to take high-dose fish oil. To be honest, I am still not clear how to take fish oil in my daily life, but will take Anti-Inflammation foods such as extra-virgin olive oil, sesame oil, turmeric, and ginger.
I am a big believer in the Zone, although I don't do it like I should, I understand the concept. This book makes absolute sense to me and just seems to follow Barry Sear's research. It is just the next logical step. I am a member of the Zone website, and while I believe the Zone line of thought about keeping your eating habits balanced, why this is important, and how to do it, I think he is really trying to make a lot of money on his products. Don't get me wrong, they are probably good products, I'm just not into that side of things although I have and would like to purchase more of his omega 3 and omega five oil pills. They are just pricey.
I am not going to do this on either. The things you shouldn't eat include: breakfast cereal, flour, crackers, pasta, bread, bagels, muffins, cookies, fake, granola bars, rice, potatoes, grains, sugar, butter, vegetable oil, egg yolks or canned fruits and veggies. The diet goes on an on about eating fish and taking 4 to 12 fish oil pills a day. I hate fish. The thought or smell of fish makes me beauteous and always have. I don't even take the pills because the Thoth of burping up fish taste makes me want to throw up. So basically you can't eat anything processed if you want to get rid of inflammation in the body. What's left?
The idea is good! I am reading it because I got struck with an autoimmune disease and want to be in control of my immune system. In true American style it starts by telling the reader what an excellent book it, is, how famous the author is and how successful the method is. You can safely skip all this, since the method and the research speaks for itself. The book is very repetitive and somewhat dumbed down, but it sure makes certain you get the message! And I did.... This makes sense and I will follow it.
Listened to the audio and purchased the hard copy. Years ago I lost quite a bit of weight and improved my health with “The Zone. I have kept the basic principles of “no white stuff” and “protein and 2 veg” pretty well over the years and have maintained most of that weight loss. Now I am 74 and everything hurts, so I am delving into Anti inflammation eating to see if I can feel better (and perhaps drop some more pounds!) The main change seems to be the addition of much fish oil, but I know my eating choices need a tune-up and this is a sensible, maintainable eating plan.
Great book! Eric and I have been on this diet for a month or so now and it works so well. I feel a lot more satisfied (and not bloated) and have a lot more energy, plus I am finally down to my pre pregnant weight (I never thought that would happen!!). Eric has also lost weight with just the food part, he hasn't had time to work out the last couple of months. I am excited to see what happens after boards when he does.
A must read for anyone suffering from inflammatory based diseases
If you have been diagnosed with any form of arthritis or diabetes, this book could be so very helpful to you! I have had a number of patients, who have followed Dr. Sears’ recommendations in this book, make remarkable progress in controlling their diseases!
The book was what I read... Seemed to be identifying silent inflammation something that GPs do not measure look for or talk about... Perhaps this book didn't get to the right places.. AA:EPA ratio please on the NHS...
Sweet story. Quick read. I really liked both the leads. Peter was a brave officer, struggling with guilt over an attack. Opal is the girl who has always loved him. Imaginative story line, with some interesting characters!
p254-55 - correlation between statin drugs and breast cancer. Correlation between statin drugs and higher production of AA, which causes inflammation in the body.
Barry sears exposes information that could improve your health and minimize the incidence of diabetes, cancer, heart attack and Alzheimer's. A worthy read.
