Daniel Thatcher has accepted some hard truths. He knows his parents are junkies, his ex-girlfriend's a cheater, and he's one write-up away from losing his job. But what he's unwilling to accept is that his friend Tony skipped town for no reason. So when Daniel finds a map Tony left behind, he follows it to a remote section of the Cascade Mountains. It's a land filled with haunting shadows and crowded trees—an area untouched by man. Or so Daniel thinks. Not long after arriving in the woods, Daniel discovers inhabitants living in the heart of the forest. Despite their peculiar behavior, the reclusive residents posses an allure that goes far beyond their beauty. But beneath their lovely exterior rests a sinister secret, one that's both lethal and tragic. It seems the dead don't always stay buried. Now Daniel's forced to accept the hardest truth of monsters do exist, and if they have it their way, he'll soon become one of them. ***Authors please remember to read "The Legend" following the epilogue***

This was one of those deceptive kinds of books, where you're not sure how a storyline could fit into the number of pages (or digital pages, considering I read this on my Kindle app) without skimming over things and still be enjoyable.

For one, it was enjoyable.

Most of the time.

It didn't so much as skim over things, but it did have a jarring pace to it - where there were information dumps at every second corner and our main character accepted everything without much freak out. I get seeing is believing but Daniel honestly went from "I need to find one of my only friends" to "Wow Fantasia *insert googly eyes here*" and I just thought he'd have a bit more of his potential used, but apparently not yet, so that frustrated me a bit.

The only interesting component to the book, for me, was outside of Daniel's character. I wanted to learn more about the world he was being thrust into, I wanted to see more of the intricacies that threatened to tear that world apart (sure, we hear about all the cruelty of those who are under Thorn's thumb, but I was kind of hoping to see it? I feel it would have hit home a lot more.) In saying that though, I loved Daniel's family. All of his uncles and his grandfather? They were this other dynamic that really highlighted against the "normal" that was Daniel's life and family (which we see a bit later on).

The plot itself, as it is book one, was solid – though there was a lot of setup for the sequel of this, particularly with Daniel's character development (here's to hoping, because I'm really looking forward to a good and strong character arc for him!) I enjoyed the strict outline of "problem" and "need to find a solution" that went on, mostly because it complimented the world building and made sure I wasn't super confused with everything that was going on. It also meant that plot twists were quite literally out of the blue (okay, maybe some had a bit of foreshadowing) and meant that the ending picked my rating up from a 2 to a 3 – there was just enough intrigue in the way it ended, the way it was built and character arcs which really makes me think I would enjoy the next book over the first!

The post-epilogue chapter also really elevated the world building of this whole story. It gave layers to the background of Thorn, and her ancestors – I would find it really interesting just to read a short story of her childhood and how she really came to be who she is today. Her character arc would honestly be the most epic thing, I think.

I didn't really like Fantasia. I felt she was a bit one-dimensional when it really came down to it, as well as hypocritical – it leads me to start doubting her feelings for Daniel as less genuine and more as a way out of whatever "curse" her father's wife put on her? (Another thing, as I said before I wanted to see more of the world, including the Seven and their spouses and just the everyday lives of these people – I'm requesting short stories please!)

The whole story was a new take on immortal fantasy, and I think because of that unique note, it did take me a little while to really get into this book (plus the fact that I was put in a slump by an alternate current read just as I was starting this book too) but overall, I enjoyed it and would definitely pick up its sequel.

I'm still struggling with my rating, especially because I've never read a book like this.
I don't even know how to properly summarize the content. Let's just say it includes drama, death, friendship and family, love and a hidden society. And yes, it also gave me the creeps.
But what I can tell is that the fantasy elements are totally unique, the author created a creative, complex world.
Still, there were a few things nagging me. The protagonist Daniel lacked a bit of personality. He clearly is a special 16 year old boy, but weaving a tragic past around a character is not the same as giving him a personality.
In addition, I really hate insta-love. And boy, was there insta-love in this book. Daniel notices himself and tries to give an explanation for it, but that didn't help me cope with it.

Still, this book is the right choice for all those who don't believe that fantasy books can be surprising anymore.

I wasn't sure what to expect from J.M. Muller's first book, the cover doesn't give much away, apart from a sense of eerie intrigue. But once I began I found that the author delivers an accomplished tale with some chilling scenes.

The fantasy element of the book is blended very nicely with the young protagonist's everyday life. There are reasons behind this new breed of supernatural creatures and their interest in Daniel. He's a relatable character thrown into a very alarming world and you have to feel for the decisions that he has to make. J. M. Muller crafts a captivating story, one that belies the fact that this is a debut novel.

One of my favourite parts is The Legend at the end of the book, which ties everything together in a darkly delicious way.

If I could give this book 0 stars I would. I am flabbergasted anyone could ever have given this book anywhere near 1 stars, let alone 5. The main character, Daniel, has zero personality and is an all-around douche canoe. The book begins with the reader learning that his girlfriend of a year, Sarah, has supposedly just cheated on him with the resident evil jock Alex which has caused the two to break up. However, Sarah comes to talk to him about not remembering the supposed cheating and that something bad is going on. But Daniel, being the real stand up guy he is, completely ignores everything she says because clearly his pride is in tatters. And this is girl he was supposed to care about. His utter disregard for her continues throughout the novel and nobody seems to care (well except me).

Don't even get me started on Daniel's love interest Fantasia. Their relationship is basically the embodiment of the Magical Girlfriend trope. She's supposedly super gorgeous and she and Daniel fall instantly in love! And not just love, but creepy, possessive love! Because being super possessive and violent just means you really care about a person! Despite that you met them like 2 hours ago! And neither of them see anything wrong with this. Sarah simply attempts to talk with Daniel at one point and suddenly Fantasia is suddenly there, "protecting her man." Daniel also seems to forget about his entire family when caught up in his "love" for Fantasia. I mean his parents are drug addicts that abandoned him, but there are still people who care about him. But he's all, "See ya fam, gotta go die so I can hook up with this mega uber hottie I met like a week ago. "

None of the characters are ever fleshed out and seem more like cardboard cutouts then actual people. And nobody seems to have logical emotional responses to anything. One minute Daniel is super chill with someone, then he's totally paranoid, then super angry, and then suddenly he's chill again. And he's not the only one. There are also no logical consistencies within the world. Supposedly the Velores (basically Faeries with a hip new name) are immortal and super old, yet also have new technology. But they supposedly never leave the forest they live in? But they wear modern clothes? Did no one notice or have a problem with this? Not to mention that the Velore straight up murder Daniel's friend Tony and make him a Velore. Afterward both Tony and Daniel are supposedly super chill with this?

Everything about this book made me want to groan outloud. And many times, I did.

Honestly, I could go on and on about all the things that were wrong with this book, but I need to go cleanse my brain of any and all things that had to do with it.

***** 5 cranky stars *****

I was recently in need of a genre change and this was the book to do it. The cover intrigued me and I was immediately hooked. It's been awhile since a YA Paranormal has held my attention and JM had my attention from the first word.

This is the story of 16 year old Daniel Thatcher. Son of druggie parents who lives with his ailing grandmother. The only one to show him love.

Fresh off a breakup he seeks to get back at his ex girlfriend and plans to attend a camping trip with his best friend and 2 beautiful girls. Break ups are dramatic at that age, people. Life happens and in his stead his friend Eric goes without him knowing. Disappearances happen and without giving too much away an epic journey begins. He meets a beautiful girl named Fantastia who is his sort of guide. She introduces him to another world and becomes many other things to our dear Daniel.

I normally tend to shy away or flip pages when books get to descriptive but JM Muller has a way of giving you enough without it being overboard. I pictured the land to be like stumbling into Disney but ran by an evil lady. There is also an interesting array of characters. I'm looking at you character who made me crave chips!! It will hold your interest from start to finish. She also includes a legend in the back that is a must read. It gives you a gruesome look into one of the characters. Seriously I'm now avoiding axes!! Read it you'll thank me or hate me because yuck.

Please read if you want to escape into a magical world. I can't wait for many, many more books by this sweet lady!!

This book was amazing. It is rare that I sit for hours engrossed in a book. Colors starts right in to Daniel's life and it seems everything is going wrong. The character is someone the reader connects with. With every bump he hits, you feel for him. You find yourself hoping everything works out.
The Velores, an original and intriguing creation by Muller, are cunning, beautiful, and dangerous. The true intentions of any of them, including Fantasia, are mysterious. With every twist in the book, you are left wondering who can be trusted. Led by Thorn, a vicious and charming ruler, Daniel stumbles in to their world while in search of his friend, with Thorn eyeing him for her own intentions.
This is an outstanding and fresh entry into the YA genre. With vampires, zombies and dystopian settings played over and over again, Colors is a welcomed, imaginative, refreshing and gripping story. The story flows nicely and doesn't feel bogged down at any point. The creativity and imagination Muller put into the characteristics of the Velores was astounding. It leads me to know there are great things coming down the line from this new author. And I can't wait to see what that will be.

I haven't read anything from this author before so I didn't know what to expect but after reading  Colors of Immortality,  I'm glad I believed my intuition that this would be a great book.

Fresh from a break up with his cheater girlfriend, Daniel, our hero, planned a double date/camping trip with his friend Tony along with two girls. Only to find out that even his friend deserted him by leaving town without him. Daniel never had an easy life and was used of accepting hard things but he couldn't accept what Tony did. Something is wrong and as he seeks to find the truth, he learned that he was right. He was introduced to this magical but creepy world, met this unusual but alluring beautiful people who seemed to have full of secrets. One of them was the gorgeous  Fantasia,  who told Daniel everything he needs to know and became his companion.

I must start with the statement, "this book gives me the creeps". The author aesthetically created/described this fantasy world that gives such an eerie feeling which results in favour to the world building. I felt like I was in some Disney movie, a dark, suspenseful Disney movie, set in a spooky forest ruled by a cruel witch, topped with spine-chilling scenes. Remember that Maleficent movie? Well, that's close to home especially that the villain was as amazing as Maleficent and we all love Maleficent. Don't we? And I'm not fooling you. I just read some reviews and learned that I'm not the only one who think it this way.

Aside from the fantastic world building, I also liked the way the genre shifted from a realistic YA story to a paranormal, suspense, mystery novel. It was properly done and realistically that I have to admit, only few writers can do.

So why I haven't given this book a five-star rating? The Romance, ladies and gentlemen. Though some of you might like it, I'm not a fan of insta-love which involves insta-possessiveness. I'm not saying that the romance is a disappointment, it was, well, romantic but not just for me. Also I find Daniel, ahm, a little disappointing. I hate cheating and that's one of the triggers I avoid in the books I read. With that being said, i must hate his ex, Sarah, who supposedly cheated. True or not, I felt like Sarah deserves more chance than what Daniel gave her. She was explaining and he's supposed to be in love with her yet he just ignored her without giving her so much of a chance to explain herself. Or did he even tried knowing the real truth behind. Anwyay, what do I know when it comes to romantic relationship? Hehe.

Anyway, aside from Daniel, I find all other characters (or creatures) amazingly written. So overall, I recommend this book to everyone who loves fantasy and creepiness. :) :)

I received an e-copy from the author and publishers through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. :) :)

Happy reading guys,

You know that feeling you have during the first 25-30% of a book you're really interested in? When the main character is the "real world" and then things happen to force our hero into adventure. You know, before that point of no return? That is this entire book. That feeling, that part of the Hero's Journey/most books is this entire book. It reads like a prequel. So, you're just waiting for the adventure and the journey to start, but it doesn't. It seems like it was written with a sequel in mind, so thankfully there is one which released recently.

Think of it as though Harry's initial recruitment to Hogwarts was a book of it's own, but make Dumbledore a matriarchal tyrant and add a love interest. But even though there isn't character development or much plot to it, it's still interesting because the world is so fascinating. That's how this book was for me. I read it way too fast, eager to actually start getting into the world of magical forest zombies.

Essentially, Dan is a troubled sixteen-year-old kid with no control of his hard life. Then Supernatural forces make his life even harder because he is the Chosen One and they need him. So, most of the book, up until the 85% mark, is them recruiting him into their world.

So, I struggled to rate this. On one hand, the characters are bland and there isn't much which goes on except for an instalove. The characters just react to events and act on the orders of Thorn (the Villain McBaddie). On the other hand, the world is complex, interesting and unique. I NEED to know more about the world and I need to dive head-first into it. Also, the writing is great.

However, it was nothing like I've read before. For me, the positive parts of the book outweigh the bad and I did find myself "really liking" the book, which is why I give it four stars. If it had more interesting characters, I would definitely have given it a 5.

I received this book through Netgalley and am providing my honest review.

It's been so long since posted any review..am so happy to have finished reading this absolutely amazing book and boy, what a read it was!!!!
Absolutely fantastic!
Daniel Tracker a sixteen-year-old boy with a wrecked family... wasted father who never cared for him, drunk mother who always ended up bringing unknown men home, as long as Daniel can remember. One of those men had the habit of beating him up along with his mother which resulted in his running away from his mother's house. The only hope is his sweet, old grandmother who loves him more than anything. He also had another positive thing in his life in the for a his girlfriend, Sarah, which turned into a curse the evening he found out she was a cheater, though he hadn't seen the details himself, the rumor were enough to know it all. His only friend, best friend to be exact, Tony suddenly skips town with just a little note addressed to Daniel. Daniel can't believe it all. And Erik's frightening tell seems to have no sense. Daniel is determined to know it all.. to go into the darkest of the woods, to encountered the horror that awaits him.
One word that describes the book CRAZY, that also in a good way. How would you feel if you realize monsters really do exist and they want to be become one of them? That to become one of them you have to be dead? That whom you think as a cheater is innocent? And that you have fallen in love knowing her to be a monster! Not all monsters are harmful.. not all of them are bad.
I am very much in love with the whole concept. It's more like a tale from the Grimm's fairy tale series, a dark tale full of love, fate, cruelty, darkness and terror. Am really not sure if it has a next book or not but I really want a next book of it badly. Let the tale not end here.. there is so more to read.

Magical:
I read this novel, not just as a favor to my dear friend who authored it, but also because I was incredibly curious about it from what I was seeing on Facebook posts. Let me tell you, I was not disappointed in the least. Granted, I am not one to read fantasy very often. I often read suspense/thrillers or love stories on occasion. What drew me into this book was just the simple beauty of the writing. What captivated me was this: starting the book off into a "normal" every day setting and slowly emerging into the fantastic elements, where you can begin to believe magic and fantasy are as close to you as your hand or if you believe, your heart. Fortunately, I do believe in magic and its power, therefore the story truly took hold of my heart to the point where I thought about it often when I was away from it, wondering what was going to happen when I next opened the book. Once I reached a certain point, I just dreaded knowing the end was coming, but realizing too that the "spell" if you pardon the pun I was under while reading was far too strong for me to keep away from it.
I was most impressed with her character of Daniel, the main character. The story is in his voice and Muller did a wondrous job of capturing this voice in first person. Without giving much away, because I'm not one to give spoilers in any instance in a review, his transformation from cover to cover was so believable, heartbreaking, hopeful, and ultimately magical.
There is so much more I would say here, but for the sake of those who have not read the book yet, do yourself the favor and buy it. The storytelling truly is magical and will touch your heart and entertain your mind.
Many kudos to my dear friend on this astonishing journey of a novel.

Review

First things first, I just want to say that Ms.Muller is one awesome lady. She is  kind and polite. Now on to my thought of Colors Of Immortality. This was a great and amazing read! Every page was mind gripping. I didn't want to put it down. The main character Daniel Thatcher is a wild card driven by his emotions. He set himself on a course to find answers, and this leads him on a dangerous path. The beginning of the story had me at first. I was relived it wasn't just a book of teenage heart break and redemption. But it was actually pretty dark and mysterious. With a light hint of Gore and romance. Which in my opinion is perfect.
I won't spill the beans on any major parts.. but I will say you might cry... Well I did with the lost of a certain character. Colors Of Immortality was a fast read for me because I couldn't put it down. Once you get into the swing of things you have to know what happens. And it certainly wasn't a disappointment. I can't wait for the sequel. My rating is a 5/5

This is an absolute game changer. I am not a huge fan of YA and didn't know what to expect, but this book has made me open my eyes to the entire genre. It's surprisingly very dark, which I didn't expect and my mouth was gawped open for at least the last 30 pages! I think what a lot of books can fail to do is surprise it's readers - but Muller definitely did just that, especially with 'The Legend' chapter right at the end after the Epilogue - I didn't expect THAT. I 100% recommend this to anyone who loves YA, or dark fantasy, new world fantasy or even if you are looking for an unlikely love story (yes, it's got everything) - then you definitely need to read Colors.

I couldnt be more pleased with this book. It captures your attention from the very beginning and does not let you go until long after you have finished the book. So much thought has gone into the world the author created and it's very different magical rules. Alot of the time the fantasy books all follow a certain cookie cutter path the author however does not and it's quite a refreshing change of pace. A MUST READ!!

Colors of Immortality by J.M. Muller is a fantasy, mystery, young adult story. This is my first book by this author and I enjoyed it. I will be going to look up more of her books for sure. Honestly, I wasn't quite sure what to think about this about the first few chapters I read then, it picked up and I had a hard time putting it down after that. Her writing style is easy flowing and engaging. Her attention to details is such that I felt like I was right there in the forest with the characters. Her characters are both connectable and lovable even though some are good and some are bad, I still found a way to connect with them. This is a story about a young man, Daniel, who was raised by druggies who is now living with his Grams. His life has not always been so easy with a cheating girl friend and a job he is about to lose. What will happen when his friend, Tony, disappears? When Daniel finds a map left behind by Tony, he doesn't hesitate to follow it to the forest. This forest looks long deserted but is it really? What is lurking in the shadows here will take you on a few twists and turns that will leave you sitting on the edge of your seat one minute and the next turning page after page to see what will happen next. Will Daniel accept the hard truth? Is the dead really dead or are they something else? Those that are lurking in the forest are out to get him, will he be safe or will become one of the dead? I enjoyed Daniel and a few other paranormal characters in this story. Daniel is a little rough around the edges other then being a teenager. He knows what he wants and has the determination to get it. In my opinion, he does seem to have a soft side to him, that is all I will say on the subject because I highly recommend you read this book to find out. The secondary characters are a little different but they are supporting. The paranormal characters fit right in to this fantasy story. Find out if monsters do exist and if they will have their way with Daniel!

Friends, just this once, please be advised that this review may contain some minor spoilers <3 I've marked them but beware anyway. Anything can slip my mind when I haven't had tea.

While Colors of Immortality had much to love, one of my favourite things happened right at the start. Muller throws you into the action right away but she does it gently, without info-dumping and without overwhelming. There's no slow, boring build-up, but it doesn't feel like too much too soon, either.

All throughout the book I kept wondering what was going to go wrong. There's another world full of magic and darkness right next to ours, and poor Daniel kind of stumbles into it. So there's tons of scope for things to go wrong!

A few small things are revealed as the story progresses, but it also leaves plenty of questions and tension for the second book.

No more secrets; she was finally free.
And I was finally aware.

Colors of Immortality had one thing I LOVE in urban fantasies: the idea that magic exists all around us, and we don't realise it because we're humans and not worthy. It takes me right back to my childhood where I saw magic everywhere; stories like this always make me nostalgic <3

At the end, Muller includes an intriguing little extra. She tells the villain's--Thorn's--backstory a little like a fairy tale, and you'll gobble it up if you love lore!

There were only two things that didn't work for me. The first was

The other thing that bugged me was how jealous Fantasia was. Dan talked to his ex because she wanted to make sure he was okay after a traumatic thing happened, and Fantasia reacted like he cheated on her. It was just a little strong for me. Between that and the insta-love, they both needed a cold shower.

Colors of Immortality is an easy recommendation if urban fantasy is your genre and if you like the idea that magic exists alongside our world without us realising it. It's a great debut, and promises so much more! The future is bright for this young author.* The sequel, Shades of Death, will be in my next book haul for sure!

Thank you to Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read and review, "Colors of Immortality"
by J.M. Muller. This book is amazing! It is so original and nothing like anything I have ever read before. I love the characters. The book centers around a teenager named Daniel who has been going through a lot lately. His parents are on drugs, he just found out his girlfriend Sarah cheated on him and he is not doing good at work. When his good friend Tony goes missing, Daniel realizes that this behavior is not typical for Tony. With a map in hand, Daniel sets off to find his friend. I was truly surprised with the events that took place and I am truly hoping for a sequel!

I can see “Colors of Immortality” by J.M. Muller becoming the next favorite young adult series. Daniel comes from a very broken family. Most of his life he was unwanted and abused. When he moves in with his grandma, things get slightly better for him. Until his girlfriend cheats on him and his world begins to fall apart again. That’s when he discovers that the world he knows is not what it seems. He also discovers that he is not as unwanted and alone as he thought.

I am not a young adult but I enjoyed “Colors of Immortality” immensely. At times I thought the story was a bit “Twilight” like. Especially with the strength and speed of certain characters. However the plot itself is rather unique and fantasy like. The story focuses around the Velores and Daniel. The Velores all have special powers and belong to seven different groups. The leader of the Velores is Thorn, an evil queen. Now just because Thorn is evil does not make the other Velores bad. Thorn wants to recruit Daniel into her posse in the hopes of making another powerful Velore. The explaining of the Velore family was a little confusing to me only because it seems so large. Perhaps a family tree hidden in the next book might help people like me to understand who is related to who. This first book focuses on Daniel’s recruitment. I did mention that this is the first book because I hope and pray that J.M. Muller continues writing this series. The story is too big for one book and somehow seems only the beginning of something huge. J.M. Muller does provide the backstory of Thorn at the end of this book, but it only increased my curiosity of what was to come. The only question that remains in my mind at the end of this book is what Velore would I be?

Overall I loved this book! There is very minor swearing and the characters all have interesting backstories that have yet to be told. I am definitely recommending this book if you are a fan of “Twilight” or like to read fantasy.

Muller is a talented writer who's created an immersive, rich environment for readers to lose themselves in. It could've been easy to glamorize Narivous as a fairy tale of magic and immortality, but she shows you just how terrifying and dangerous those concepts really are. In that way, I agree with another reviewer that this tale is reminiscent of a Grimm's fairy tale; there is a dark cost for every magical blessing and more bad intentions than good in a culture so dependent on hierarchical power dynamics. For a debut author her employ of tension and suspense was, frankly, masterful. I enjoyed how every blessing came with a set of curses and every choice was the wrong one for at least one reason. These Velores have really been placed in an impossible scenario, one that makes you question what it really means to be a hero, to be a monster. What if you could be both? It's all very fae-like and makes me question what's true and false and who's playing whom. I agree with some 1 star reviewers that some of these characters and their relationships with each other are deeply flawed. However frustrating it was to read yet another dysfunctional, unhealthy romance in YA literature, I'm not leaving a poor review because, for the main character Daniel, it actually makes total sense that he would get into such a co-dependent relationship. Muller's backstory for him is so heartbreaking and realistic, that of course he'd treat love like a crutch. Personally, I'd like to see this romance knocked down a peg in the later books, otherwise the entire thing feels a little too Twilight-y for my taste. Still, I highly recommend this read. The writing style, the worldbuilding, the suspense, the characters...they enthralled me. Oh, and the Legend at the end, I echo every other reviewer when I say it was the PERFECT way to end Book 1. No spoilers...but Thorn is a fucking badass.

Where do I even begin with my love for this book? What Ms. Muller does, expertly, is place me into a fantastical world that exists within the contemporary realm that we know today. Her eloquent prose so masterfully guides you through Daniel's life that, to me, he became more than just a literary character. Instead, he blurred the line between fantasy and reality and became real in my mind. I feel like he is someone that I know personally, and I connected to his tale as such.

Muller builds suspense in such a breath sucking manner that even when you believe you know what is around the next corner, you find yourself completely blindsided. Colors of Immortality is two stories in one. The first half is very familiar, easing you into a world that makes sense, a world you can connect to. The latter half of this wonderful book crafts an unknown land of fantastical enchantment that exists right within our midst. It's spell binding and electrifying. The world Muller creates is described so vividly, that I could almost smell the air as I read it.

Where the book truly succeeds is in its antagonist. Muller sets the stage for this villain for the entire book, building her up over and over to the point where I began to wonder if the execution could possibly live up to the hype. My fears were put to rest, and Muller gave us a taste of a truly compelling baddie who, in one scene, reached Maleficent levels of villainous awesomeness for me.

And the Legend at the end.....It's like a little novella at the end. A cherry on top of a delicious sundae of awesomeness.

Muller remains one of the finest indie authors I've ever read, and she has created a lifelong fan in me. I can't wait for Book 2!

The first thing that drew me to this book was the cover! I found it so intriguing and then the synopsis sealed the deal and I one-clicked it. I can read any book as long as it keeps my attention and Muller did not let me down with this suspenseful fantasy. The story was so intriguing and made my mind run through all kinds of scenarios as to what could happen next. The writing was smooth and the story flowed well. I read the book in one evening and when I was done, I craved more. The combination of such creative fantasy and suspense made this a great debut novel, in my opinion. I am beyond excited to see what else Muller produces in the future!

"Sixteen-year-old Daniel Thatcher has accepted some hard truths. He knows his parents are junkies, his ex-girlfriend’s a cheater, and he’s one write-up away from losing his job. But what he’s unwilling to accept is that his friend,Tony, skipped town for no reason. So when Daniel finds a map Tony left behind, he follows it to a remote section of the Cascade Mountains.

It’s a land filled with haunting shadows and crowded trees—an area untouched by man. Or so Daniel thinks. Not long after arriving in the woods, Daniel discovers inhabitants living in the heart of the forest. Despite their peculiar behavior, the reclusive residents posses an allure that goes far beyond their beauty. But beneath their lovely exterior rests a sinister secret, one that’s both lethal and tragic.

It seems the dead don’t always stay buried. Now Daniel’s forced to accept the hardest truth of all: monsters do exist, and if they have it their way, he’ll soon become one of them."

I was gifted this book who is truly my light and probably knows me better than myself lol. This book managed to pull me out of a hard book funk I was in. While this is YA and quite simple to read so to speak it really does draw you in. This is a incredible debut novel and I do hope there's more with the way this ended.

I truly loved how monsters do exist in a everyday world. It's very modern day. Now the fantasy elements in this book will simply fascinate you. It's incredible what Muller was able to create in this book. I simply loved Daniel and Fantasia what a combination to blow you away and I'm going to assume they will become quite a force together if a book two comes along All these characters are incredible. It's so easy to feel connected to Daniel. I even felt for Thorn! You get to know a little bit of their backstories but doesn't overwhelm you.

This will be a story like no other. It's well worth the read to discover what monsters truly are. I'm so happy to have read this. It gave me what I needed. I do hope a second one is coming. Much Kuddos to J.M. Muller on this fantastic one of a kind story and the title is truly perfect and so fitting.

Total bonus points for having my favorite word "Indeed" in it twice LOL

Truly original! A must read!
I’ve not come across a book such as this in a very long time. I was glued to each and every page. The “world” and characters Muller has created immediately drew me in. A world of fantasy and creatures so brilliantly intertwined with a cast of human characters rooted in “human” existence; it left me in wonder of Muller’s creativity, imagination and absolute skill in translating from the mind’s eye to the page. The subtleties of “the moment” which contribute to the story as a whole flowed with an ease that made me feel as if I were part of the plot, joining Daniel’s and the lovely Fantasia’s plight. The Legend, adding yet another facet to Muller’s creation is brilliantly shocking and awards further depth into the beginnings and history of the tale. I recommend this to adult readers as well as YA, and lovers of all genres as the book’s content seems to have no bounds. Muller is poised to create an incredibly compelling series with this book as the genesis. I’m eagerly looking forward to her future work!

I really didn't know what to expect with this book, and after reading the synopsis, I was intrigued. I absolutely loved it and I think Muller did an incredible job on her debut novel!
One thing that I really enjoyed was that it was from a male's POV. Thinking about it, I believe that every book I have read this summer has been from a female's POV so it was a nice change! Muller wrote a captivating story with a very relatable main character. I love the idea of immortality and I think it's cool that the characters all have very unique abilities. The most important part of this book is The Legend which is at the very end. I don't know if it mattered when I read The Legend but I read it first and it helped to make sense of the immortal world, giving me a sort of backstory to the whole creation of their existence.
I read this book in 2 days because I never wanted to put it down. Each chapter leaves you wanting more. Needless to say, this book did not disappoint AT ALL. I cannot wait for the sequel to come out!!

This debut novel by J.M Muller was a great (I hope) first installment for more to come. When I finished Colors of Immortality I found myself can't waiting to read the next story.

This novel is an easy read and although it is young adult I found the story to not be not adolescent and perfect also for adults. Sometimes fantasy books you can easily get lost by intricate details of the imaginary world in the story and have a hard time keeping track of all the characters. Muller did a great job bringing this fantasy world alive while finding the balance of keeping the reader engaged and not losing them in unnecessary made up details. What makes this story great is that there are characters that are relatable to the reader and the way she writes makes you care for the outcome of them.

The biggest con is that I have to wait for the next book to find out what happens. I cant wait to read what comes next from this talented up and coming author.

I really enjoyed this book! I loved the characters and the unique world that the author has created. I found that I was immediately invested in the story and didn't want to put it down! I hope that there will be sequels to take us deeper into the lives of these characters and their strange world. I don't want to give away any spoilers, so I will only say that I really hope we get to know the grandmother and the ex-girlfriend, Sarah, a little better in novels to come. I will definitely be looking out for any more books by this author.

Originally the cover of this book lured me in. Then I read the synopsis and was intrigued. I needed a genre change and what a way to do that!!
Daniel was the cast aside kid of druggies and lived with his grandma. His life was less than stellar and was coming off a breakup. Hey he's 16 this is a big deal!! His friends ditch him to go on a camping trip. That camping trip would be the trigger for the whole book. This book had an interesting array of characters with interesting abilities. Their link to Daniel was woven so very interestingly. I truly enjoyed this book and hope there will be another. The author has a way with description that didn't make it so annoying you were screaming ok we get it. It's a story of drama and action and of course love. Love of a family he never knew. Plus The Legend at the end was gruesome! Read it if YA paranormal is for you!

This book surprised me.
With that being said, I have to admit I enjoyed it. It was a quick read with enough oomph to keep me interested. There were a few parts in the beginning that left empty spaces and a few times descriptions seemed lacking in a sense that it left a hole in the imagery, but overall nothing terrible. There is a major part that I felt was a little "too convenient" but it was rectified toward the end and it's use in the story worked out well. There was only one noticeable typo, and the grammar was superb. As a first novel, I have to say that it was well written and the story flowed nicely. I truly couldn't put it down, especially towards the end. I teetered between 4 and 5 stars but I believe it deserves 5. Overall this is a great YA novel that has enough of a storyline that anyone can enjoy it. I can't wait for the next book to be released.

Colors of Immortality by J.M. Muller

5 stars!!!!!

I was interested to begin this book as it is slightly different from my norm of supernatural creatures but I was instantly drawn in and hooked. This book was a refreshing new genre for me and I was very impressed with the authors way of telling the story and how she used slight references from the past but not too much. I was very intrigued about how they became as they are and the relationship between Daniel and Fantasia is quite unique and I am very interested to see how it will progress.

The whole storyline was very complex and refreshing. I was instantly glued to the pages of this book and I just couldn't put it down. The whole concept of the Narivians is very unique. I will be very interested to see how the author progresses with the storyline. I cannot wait to be able to further read into the world of Narivous.

This book has it all: drama, romance, sci-fi thrills and chills, great characters, and just an all-around fantastic story and plot. It is superbly well-written, and at times, you will be saying to yourself, "the suspense is killing me"!! The author truly knows how to pique--and keep--your interest all throughout the book. You will have a very difficult time putting the book down, so be prepared to take the time to read it all the way through in one sitting. Kudos to the author for giving the world such a provocative, spellbinding novel. I'm sure there will be more to come in the series, and I, for one, will be right there ordering my copy of each and every one of them! This is a real gem. Don't miss it!!
