I hope you’re ready for another cookbook! I picked this one up pretty cheap from The Works but I was impressed by the quality of it. It had some great recipes in there and the photos were good too, putting it at least on a par with the Bosh! cookbook as far as I’m concerned.
Sure, not every recipe turned out as intended, and some of them didn’t look as appealing as they did in the photographs, but there was also a lot to love here and I took a bunch of the recipes and added them to my overall master list so that I can make them in the future. I’m even eating this while eating a mandarin and chia seed muffin.
So if you’re vegan, or if you’re cooking for one, it’s worth picking this up if you see a copy of it, especially if it’s going cheap. Now I’m hungry.
This is a good collection of quick and easy on the go ideas including details on portion sizes so each recipe can be easily adjusted to suit numbers of people and/or different appetites. Obviously each recipe is vegan but there aren't lots of ingredients and so many of them sound just damn tasty, with the added benefit of being animal free.

I am not Vegan, but I read this book because this year I am trying to improve my diet to eat as little meat as possible and more fruits and vegetables.
Before I read this book I thought Vegan was more stoic than Vegetarian, but I found the recipes in both to be not much different. Both Vegan and Vegetarian recipes are beautiful with colorful vegetables.
The book doesn't have many pictures to go with the recipes, so it doesn't give you much of an idea of what the recipes look like.
If you are interested in purchasing this book, I would recommend "The Complete Vegetarian Cookbook" from the same DK series.
Meh? I bought this at random in a charity shop. The layout and design are really beautiful, which make it very attractive and easy to read. Having said that, the recipes (very simple; under 30 minutes for the vast majority; requiring only a few, basic ingredients to make) feel like being made for a child's lunchbox/ packed lunch despite it being advertised to grown-ups! The fact that it's merely about snacks, salads, soups and sweets doesn't help if (like me) you prefer more earthy/ wholesome food. Regardless, I found a few nice recipes in there so I am happy to give it a 3 stars.
I picked this one up for the 'on-the-go' ideas, not necessarily vegan title. Definitely some great ideas for quick lunches and snacks; includes notes for portions so you can adjust to accommodate another person or additional portions; great color photos with the recipes; tips included. There are several recipes with random ingredients that I would have to look for (juniper berries, ground linseed, baobab powder) which is why I lowered one star.
Great ideas, great food - all recipies i've tried so far have been lovely. Most ingredients are easy to source and thankfully the book manages to avoid the usual pitfalls of putting someones life story before each recipe. Really well written and well presented. :) :) :)
A lot of new fresh ideas that you don’t see often, based around being able to pack them into lunches or on the go dinners (as the title suggests). I found a lot of the recipes to be a bit overly complicated, but im relatively new to vegan cooking so that might be why.
Lots of vegan cookbooks claim to have “quick & easy” recipes but then your in the kitchen slicing and dicing for an hour+. Most in here actually are quick and easy- perfect for busy week nights. We all especially loved the potsticker noodles.
It does feel like this book wants to perpetuate the stereotype that vegans only eat salads with the amount of (insert country) (insert vegetable) salads there are.
Beautifully designed cookbook with photos of each recipe. Recipes are for things that can be taken to eat for lunch or when away from home. But few are quick enough to be made on a busy morning before leaving and taking with for lunch. Many take 20-35 minute prep time (according to the recipes) and then additional chilling time. Others combine recipes elsewhere in the book making prep time even longer. Not a problem for making great food if you plan ahead, but perhaps the title of the book is a bit off. Make-Ahead Vegan On the Go might be more accurate. To be fair, the author recommends in the introduction to do a communal cooking session on Sundays with friends.
Small quibble: most of the recipe yields are listed vaguely, such as the sandwich spreads which each make 1 jar. Would that be a baby food jar or a half-gallon Mason jar? Almost all the recipes say they make 1 or 2 portions, sometimes not-so-clarified with the addition of small or large. Not very helpful. The dressings and dips say they make enough to dress 1 portion of salad. But the Vegan Mayonnaise has 2 1/2 cups of ingredients in it! The Vinaigrette has 1/2 cup of oil in it. Dump that on your lunch salad!
That aside, there are some great looking recipes here for things that store and when needed, reheat well. If you aren't looking for things you can toss together in 5 minutes before work, this is a good book of recipes for food you can take along.
I deeply appreciated this vegan cookbook; I'm so excited to try so many different recipes! The helpful hints about how long to keep things in your fridge as well as tips on how to order vegan in restaurants were great. Also, DIY veganese! I always just bought it, I've never tried making it. I think this book is an excellent way to get into making vegan touch-and-go meals, which is the first step for me to actually shift my eating habits to almost exclusively vegan. The recipes are easy to follow, and the pictures are gorgeous. Books like this are perfect for people like me, tentative-not-quite vegans who are trying to get their toes wet. Would definitely recommend.
As a long time (almost 9 years) vegan, it is hard to say that I did not knew at least some of the recipes in this book. However, I give a 4 because it offers nice solutions, it is a beautiful book with suggestive pictures and I do think it can be useful especially for busy vegans, who still want to eat home made food in spite of the growing offer of vegan food in Europe.
