Book two is more of a fire trap than a lot of people would say. Jonathan Barret has to adjust himself to his new life that left him with many questions. It seemed like every time one question was answered, five more allowed their ugly heads to pop in. And the one person he needed the most to help explain it and help adjust to it? Poof, she isn't there to guide him but to leave him stranded and let him be a newborn on his own.
It was sad to read how Elizabeth was taken advantage of and how if Jonathan wasn't this new body, he wouldn't be able to save her. This story is just like book one in many ways since it glides over vampires but more dictates how the Barret's lives are. However, Jonathan is a vampire now and it does breach that subject, but he - along with many others - discuss his new "form" as being a miracle.
This book does breach the smut actions. Unlike book one, this book is not as tame, but it does not give specifics. It does hint towards certain aspects, but it does not flat out say the smut actions.
I really like P. N. Elrod. I read all of the Vampire Files (at least all I could find) and thought I'd try this series. This is the second in the Jonathan Barrett series. Whereas the first series was set in '30s gangster Chicago, this is set during the Revolution on Long Island. The pace is leisurely, the story is relatively gentle and humorous until the end which is surprising and exciting. Loved it.
I read these when they first came out! Loved reading them on a digital platform! Well worth the time! Keep writing, and I will keep reading! Thank you!!
I honestly enjoyed this book more than the first one. Jonathan learns more about his "condition" the hard way, and his sister falls for a Lord come visiting from England. It was a good read, twist ending that you don't necessarily see.
Elrod wrote this series of books with Nigel Bennett of Forever Knight fame. You remember, he was Nicholas' maker - LeCroix. So, he's got some "history" when it comes to vampire stuff.
Much ado over nothing. Kept waiting for something meaningful to happen. A watery, slow-paced vampire novel. Not a lot of substance to sink one's teeth into.
