"Young love, paranormal creatures, and murder."

There is a creature haunting the swimming pools of Beverly Hills. 16 year-old Josh Butters believes he sees a connection between the creature and the mysterious and beautiful girl next door. Before long, Josh finds himself falling head-over-heels in love with the girl, Lara, who it turns out is an enchanted being. Josh discovers that he and Lara are soulmates, drawn together by the siren’s song, destined to be together from birth. But there’s a dark secret to being Lara’s soulmate, a secret that involves battling creatures, and an age-old feud. Josh must decide if the price for being Lara’s one true love is a price he’s willing to pay. It could cost Josh, his family, and friends their lives.

Dangerously exciting, yet mystical and romantic, Moondancers is a page turning thriller that asks the question "do you believe in soulmates?"

Moondancers is a twisted tale of true love and folklore.

Josh thought this summer was going to be typical of those in the past - hanging out with his best friends. He wasn't expecting to get caught up in the lives of the new neighbor and her cousin. Alan, Conner, and Josh planned to just observe from afar and not get too up close or personal. That changes while the boys were playing around by Alan's pool. The mysterious new neighbors make their presence known when Conner tries to show off in the pool.

The lives of Josh, Alan, and Conner are about to change in ways they never thought possible. As creatures are revealed that are only talked about in storybooks, Josh gets pulled into their world in more ways than one. He also watches Alan enter that same world but in a completely different way. Conner finds out the hard way as he sinks to the bottom of Alan's pool, held down by a ghastly monster.

Alan is pulled in by the alluring Alexia, his new neighbor. Josh is pulled in by Alexia's cousin, Lara, and forced to stay involved as Lara's family uses conniving and threats to get him to do their bidding. Conner is attacked by the monster that lives in Alan's pool. Now Josh has to find out what the monster is, where it came from, and how to rid it from their lives. Of course, it's not going to be that simple, especially when Lara explains to him exactly what is going on.

E. Van Lowe's Moondancers is a very unique story. It's a mature young adult (15+ y/o) story told from Josh's point of view. It's not sappy or overly emotional; it's realistic (the romance, not the paranormal creatures) and wonderfully told. The pacing of the book is fast and the tale is engaging.

The character development is done well and the world building is excellent. I felt like I was in the story and got to know each character individually. Josh's character is a typical teenager that finds himself at the crossroads of being a kid and maturing into make decisions to protect his family and Lara. Lara is a nice character on the opposite side of the line than her mother. Lara wants to protect Josh and her mom wants to coerce him by using his family - regarding what, you'll have to read the book to find out for yourself.

Warning ~ there is a cliffhanger ending,,.,

The warmest hearts can melt ice...

I've been a fan of E's work for about a year now and have thoroughly enjoyed the stories he has spun. Even so, I wasn't quite sure what I was getting into when this book was released.
I hadn't cleared up enough time on my calendar to give it the attention it deserved at first, but the more pages I read, the more it drew me in.
These beautiful creatures had secrets, and I needed to find out all of them.
By the time I was halfway into the story, I realized I was hooked.

The ending was a bit shocking, but definitely makes you eager for the next story!
I very much enjoyed this book and am excited for more to come!!!

1 Penguin because DNFed at 25%

This book just isn't working for me personally. The ideas are there, and they're intriguing; I'd love to know more about the world, but...

1. Insta-love, and a HUGE case of it...from more than one character.
2. Awkward writing/confusing prose.
3. I can't connect with either the characters or the story, which is making it drag out longer than I'd like.

Therefore--off with you! Your cover is gorgeous, I wish I'd liked you better... It's not you, though, it's ME.

I liked the story. A little bit of love and a little bit of horror. Some things were kind of hurried and unexplained, but all in all not bad for a pre-teen/teen

I got this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. This book was a surprising read for me as it is written mostly in main character Josh's PoV. Instead of the main character being something special, Josh is just your normal guy, with normal friends and a normal life. Until he meets someone...
There is a hidden world of mythical sea creatures and one of them had taken residency in Josh's best friend's pool...
I really loved this story. The author is quite adapt with the English language, I'd say but English is not my spoken language so maybe it's just me lol. Still, I found that to be a plus, since it makes me more adapt with the language.
I wonder how the story develops in Frostfellows!

How often do you run across a classic YA novel ... for boys? Not very often. Typically, a YA book for boys is all about machismo and action and fighting, but rarely dealing with emotions of love - further propelling gender stereotypes. But E. Van Lowe's YA book, Moondancers, breaks through the barriers and offers up a really enticing set of characters and story.

Josh Butters is going on sixteen. His best friends are Alan and Conner. They are the stereotypical teenaged boy nerds. They think about, fantasize about, the really good-looking girls at school, but the very thought of actually talking to any of them makes the boys panic. But a new girl, Alexia, has moved in next door to Alan, and she's the most beautiful girl any of the young men has ever seen. Alan tries to impress her with some antics in his pool, but when he doesn't come back up Lara, Alexia's cousin comes to his rescue before the boys even see her move. But when he does see her, Josh is spellbound. He knows, in his heart, that Lara is his one true love. But Lara and Alexia harbor an ancient family secret that could prevent the boys from ever getting close to the girls. But when the secret is out, the boys are needed to help protect the girls from a long-time evil.

This is really one of the better YA books that I have read (and I've read a few of them). In part it's because this really captures the feelings of the geeky, awkward, teenaged boy. I know...I was one of them. The constant thinking about girls. The dreaming about those found so attractive, but the failure to step up and actually talk to one of them. Not every boy is an athletic star and confident in himself. Especially at that age, and this book really identifies with those young men.

And while the boys do talk about their feelings and their passions and finding a soul-mate, they are also able to step up and become heroes to fight for the ones they love.

And best of all...they understand and respect the friendships they have among themselves. Too often boys in books are the masculine meat-heads who fight for the girl but don't really want to show the 'feminine' side. These boys are 100% male, but recognize the tight bond that they've developed over the years of being friends and that this isn't just tossed away when a boy/girl relationship begins.

This is so smooth! I am so excited to have found a book that understands and can convey this.

And the story is thrilling. Monsters and enchanted creatures. Domineering and clueless parents. True, unrequited love. Fights. Brain over brawn. This story has it all. I felt that I could have been any one of these boys - would certainly have liked to have been when I was that age - and so I understood them. They were real to me and I suspect that a lot of young boys would find it the same.

Which brings me to ... the cover. This is a GORGEOUS cover, as seen above. But this screams "girl's YA book" to me. Girls should like it. There are some powerful young ladies within. But this doesn't look like the sort of book that will grab a hold of those young boys who would want to read it. In fact, it will be embarrassing for those geeks to take a book off the shelf with a pretty girl on the cover like this. I know that's a shame, but that's the life of a teenager.

Do everyone a favor, and put this book in the hands of every boy ages 13-17. Make them read the first chapter and they will immediately be involved and they will read the rest on their own.

Looking for a good book? Moondancers, by E. Van Lowe, is an exciting YA book that should appeal greatly to teen boys especially.

I received a digital copy of this book from the author, through the publicist, in exchange for an honest review.

Such a great escape! Moondancers takes you to a fantasy world that you can sink right into. Joshua, Alan and Conner are friends and the geeky guys in school but a new girl moved in next to Alan her name is Alexia and she is the most beautiful girl they have ever seen. When she realizes they are talking about her while they are outside by the pool she and her cousin Lara tease them and when Conner does a cannonball into the pool no one notices at first that he doesn't come up. By the time Josh and Alan realize it Lara is bringing him up from below and no one even saw her go in, but Conner has some gashes on his leg so they attend to that. Josh can't help but call her on how she did that and she calls him names and leaves, but when she is around Josh hears music in his head so he follows her,she disappears but not before he insults her again. Well back at Alan's, Alexis invites them all to a party and the guys convince Josh to borrow Dads car and take them all there. Well Alexis ends up following some other guy but Lara is there and Josh hurts her feelings again so she leaves the party and Josh follows her and gives her a ride home where he sees some weird creature behind the bush. Josh goes back and spies on Lara and her family and she explains that they are not from here, and Josh feels like he is falling in love with her it he promises to keep her secret. Plot moves quickly and is an enjoyable read but beware it ends in a cliffhanger

I received this as an arc for an honest review. I hate when I can't give a great review it really bums me out. I wanted to like this book, I really did. The character build wasn't all that great. It seemed really childish most times. To fast paced. Josh was rather stupid lets just put it that way. He had no back bone when it came to his friends or anything else for that matter. Both Alan and Josh kept contradicting themselves. They wanted to be badass at times then others they acted like scared toddlers. The end conflict was laughable, josh stood there pissing himself while holding Lara and the events that followed were his own stupidity. He could have fought or died trying. Pansy! And WTF is everyone giving him this "this is all your fault stares"? And how the hell were most of these his fault?!?! I'm sorry had that been me I'd have told them to f themselves. OMG ALEXIA!!! If I could choose to stab one person it would truly be her. I hated her that much. Why wouldn't Josh tell Alan it was a spell? Hello, he's aware of the situation now. The ending all I could think of was the Bon Jovi "you give love a bad name" the lyrics just blaring with that freakin siren song "Shot through the heart, and you're to blame, darling. You give love a bad name." This story had promise, the concept could have been great but the characters killed it for me. I truly hope they grow in the next book.

Moondancers is book one in the new Beautiful Creatures of Beverly Hills series by YA author, E Van Lowe.

The summer Josh Butters was to turn 16 began like most others. Josh was hanging out with hos 2 best friends, Alan and Connor, either at the Frozen Yogurt shop looking at girls or swimming in Alan's back yard pool. What Josh didn't know was that he would fall in love with a girl, and not just any girl. Lara, unbeknownst to Josh, along with her cousin, Alexia, was actually just one of several myth-;like creatures living among the humans in Beverly Hills. But they wren't alone. There was also a creature living in Alan's pool. a creature that wasn't as friendly as Lara and he was out to hurt Lara and her kind.

Soon Josh find himself and his friends fighting for the lives of the girls and maybe themselves.

E. VanLowe weaves a tale of mythical creatures which draws you in and has you anxious to see what will happen next. I started this book and couldn't put it down until I was done. The story is unique not the usual young adult love story. It had me not wanting to put my kindle down fro a minute and left off with an ending that left me wanting more.

I am very excited to see what comes next in this series.

Josh Butters is convinced that some kind of monster is haunting the pools of Beverley Hills. Moreover, he thinks the monsters are somehow connected to Lara, the beautiful girl next door that he’s fallen head over heels for. And, boy was he ever right. He soon learns that the monsters are real and deadly, and that Lara is more than just beautiful—she’s other-worldly and he’s her soul mate. The problem: he might die trying to save her, or he might defeat the monsters and have to give up his soul.
Moondancers by E. Van Lowe is a young adult thriller that even old graybeards like me can enjoy reading. It’s a fairly well-told tale of friendship, young love, magic, and adventure set against the backdrop of the not-so affluent neighborhoods of the ‘poor’ part of Beverley Hills. I found this book a pleasant diversion on a day when the temperature was reaching for triple digits and outside activity was ill-advised. Curled up in front of a fan with a cold thermos of iced tea, the time just drifted by.

This is another beautifully written masterpiece by E. Van Lowe. Moondancers is one of those books I put on my all-nighter’s list.

Josh is a teenage boy with normal friends that steps into a world of mythical creatures and beings that aren’t always what they seem. Did you think all nymphs and satyrs were nice? Well read this and find out the truth, Josh did.

Here is your average boring pool hopping summer in Beverly Hills lower side until Alan (aka Best friend) gets a new neighbor. And the new neighbor has a cousin. Things start to turn interesting in a very short time. Can a girl make enemies out of best friends? Would you give your life for someone you just met and fell in love with at the age of fifteen? Or would you give your life of freedom for your best friend?

This book is action packed served up with a light side of humor!
Don’t stop here with E.Van Lowe read his Boyfriend from Hell Series. I know you will be happy you did.
Bravo E!

I received this as a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

At first the book was a little slow, and I had a hard time, it seemed another monster in the pool from somewhere evil, we need to kill. But the more I read the more it became interesting. Josh and Lara love had been before they were born, but Lara knows a secret of what will happen if their love should bloom. Her mother on the other hand is very manipulative, and conniving. I didn't like her from the start. Alexi next-door to Alan is a drama queen, but once you know the reason, she becomes conniving as well. Add Water Nymphs, Satyrs and Sea Troll and you have one exciting story.

Secret you think are reveal, only lead to more secrets, and the ending I did not see coming, I am not sure I can wait for the next book to find out what happen to Josh, because of Lara's love.

All in all a great book.

Eternal Love

Josh was close to his sixteenth birthday and enjoying life. In his neighborhood, swimming pools were common. While swimming at his friend's house, a creature attacked his friend. Luckily, one of the girls from next door saved him. Although Lara didn't live there, she thought the boys were jerks. Josh was really taken by Lara and did apologize. Around this time, there seemed to be a creature hanging out in pools in their area. It had attacked Conner and Josh had seen the creature n the poll's drain. Josh knew it had something to do with Lara. After talking to her, he found out that she was a water nymph. Her house Sat above a hot spring which was enchanted. He, also, found out that the creature was a Lycorian who wants to destroy the water nymphs. This is big trouble.

I think this is the first time where I get to review a YA novel written by a man and pretty much revolving around teenage boys. There you go first sentence out and there goes the spoilers.

I really enjoyed it, it was a good pace, really nice character I especially enjoyed Josh the most well he is kinda the hero of our story. I also like how his family was written about and their back story. It makes it quite realistic in a pretty much paranormal environment that no one is aware of. The father was very likeable and very relatable too.

Highly recommend it and cannot wait for the next book in the series.

All the way through this, I was not sure who was going to die. And I still didn't see it coming.
This really brought me back, to being a teenager; I forgot what self centered creatures teens are. This really hits close to home (other than supernatural critters lol) and I felt like this could be me - at least in how Josh reacts. And who he's attracted to. Except he's more courageous. Lara sounds wonderful. ish. Plenty else I did not expect. Thanks E Van Lowe! And am waiting, somewhat patiently, for the next one.

Twerps

This was too much like listening to adolescent boys rage over girls. It had too many "F" words... Of course, one, is too many. All they cared about was getting with a girl and though that IS what they think about it could have been written less juvenile. The story took too long to get going. The story it's self had promise and did pick up towards the end... (Or maybe I just started skimming by then). It ends with a cliff hanger but I will make up my own rather than read that drivel again.

DNF- too immature

I probably would have loved this when I was 14, back when I first uttered the F word and melted for cheesy high school romances.

The cover is beautiful, which is what made me want to read a book I knew was going to be a little young for me.

I just couldn't get into it. 10% in and we are introduced to insta-love and the dumb ol' guy friends trope. It wasn't necessarily awful writing for the target audience, but for me it was cringey.
