Alex, Ren, Ernst, and Alex's mum have recently got themselves out of the execution chamber and need to go into the afterlife using a fake door to retrieve the lost scrolls that were taken from them before their execution. When they are being executed by a death walker King Tutankhamun Arrives from the shadows as a "Mummy". And as a favour for helping him find his heart in book 3 he shows them his portable Book Of The Dead that they need to use to destroy the death walker that is trying to kill them. Eventually, they succeed and go on to destroy the Order.
My favourite character in this series is Ernst Todtman. One of the best amulet keepers (and he's German). The fact I got from this book was that there used to be lots of mummies kept in giant tombs underground (in their thousands). There were for the poor and the weak because they couldn't afford lavish tombs. My favourite part was after they were in the execution chamber when Rens mummy cat got resurrected.
Well, this is it. The end of the TombQuest series.
Over the past 5 books, we've been in the world of Amulet Keepers, Death Walkers, The Lost Spells and The Order. It's a pretty neat world. That being said though... I still think this book, and the whole series, could be massively improved.
The last chapter of the Tombquest saga, this promises the final battle between good and evil, life and death. But with Alex and his friends and family in the hands of The Order and an army of the dead advancing on civilization, the hope of success is very low.
Okay, this didn't hold up to the rest of the books for a couple of reasons. One, it had some editing problems. When my reading partner, who is the approximate age this series is geared at, was picking up on editing missteps, that was a red flag. Secondly, it felt overwhelmingly rushed towards the finale and then, it just happened. Like all this buildup and then it was just over. It did tie up the ends very well, but it fell a bit flat for the end of a series.
Now, with that said, I enjoyed parts immensely. Like, I loved the part where they were trying to distract the crocodiles, it was fun. I also liked when it came to the ultimate decision. And, they brought back my favorite character! Oh yeah!
I enjoyed the wrap-up of the saga and am trying to get my reader into another series cause it was fun partner reading. This was an engaging read that will be a great introduction to young readers to ancient myths of other cultures, spark that interest.
Going to give this entire series a 3/5. Overall, it was good. It didn't wow me, it didn't shock me, I didn't love it, but I enjoyed my time reading it. The Egyptian mythology references were pretty awesome seeing as how that's what I took in school - but it still wasn't enough to be the best series I've ever read. Still, I'm glad I read it.
BWAAAAAAAAAAH! Such a decent and sad series! I really liked it. I just think that their "Egyptian" factor could be more "authentic," and that they could use more impact on the ending. Otherwise, good book!
I enjoyed the ending. It was unique and quite the twist. It also proves that even in the darkest of times there is still hope and victory can be snatched from the jaws of defeat.
Loved this series. I've always had a fascination with Egyptian mythology and have read several series that pull in that mythology extremely well. TombQuest did not disappoint!
Having finally found his mom in Egypt, but losing The Lost Spells, Alex and his friends Ren and Luke now have to escape their prison stronghold, save his mom and Todtman, find the spells, and save the world. And, in the mix of it all, fight the Order and their leader...not a small task.
Drawing on their strengths, as their amulets give them, the young trio must go it alone into the underworld, once again, to recapture the spells. Encountering strange beings, living mummies, and powerful death walkers, danger is at every turn. Finding portals that will allow them to enter into worlds, either past or present, that will help them in their quest, good vs. evil duels it out to the bitter end.
In these battles, they lose a very important member of the group, yet their commitment to right the wrongs is paramount, even though their hearts are heavy. A fitting conclusion to the series, The Final Kingdom will wrap up this kid-friendly series nicely.
This may be a nice alternative to young readers are daunted by the shear length of Riordan's mythology series. It could have been written as one book, yet this series is divided up into manageable installments.
This last installment of the “Tombquest” series presents the final showdown between Alex, Ren, Alex’s mom, his cousin Luke, Dr. Todtman and the Order and the legion of Death Walkers. Alex is devastated to learn that his father is indeed the leader of the Order and his goal is world domination with the power of the amulets that Alex and his allies hold. His mother finally reveals to Alex the details of his early life and his father’s obsession with the Book of the Dead. For the final confrontation, Alex and Ren must enter the Underworld and use the Book of Lost Spells to defeat the mummies as they try to take over New York. Readers will learn about mummification and Egyptian mythology painlessly. Fans of the series will no doubt relish this conclusion. The action-packed series is a good choice for reluctant middle grade readers. The length of the books is just right to hold attention and the narrative is easy to read and understand.
In the conclusion to this series, Alex and Ren and all their circle must face off against the Death Walkers and The Order to finish the closing of the doors to the afterlife. Doing so is very difficult, as there have been major shocking revelations for the preteens, including the reason they were betrayed in an earlier book.
There were a few places that it felt as though the author was reaching since there really wasn't a good way out of the tight spot the duo has found themselves in.
The ending was well done, but left me wishing for me. An excellent book and an excellent series, especially recommended for grades 4-8, but a good read for anyone who enjoys a good, fast moving, interesting mystery with a bit (okay, a lot) of historical information thrown in.
The final kingdom was the best in the series because they fight the stone warriors and how Michael Northrop uses so much character description and I can't believe how all of it comes down! People will love this book so much because of how Alex summoned one of the most powerful goddesses in Egyptian history!!! That had to be my favorite part because of the way it was described, it was like I was actually there, seeing what happened when the goddess chomped down into one of the stone warriors like a chocolate chip cookie!!!! Conflict: I loved the description on when Alex, Ren, and Luke fought incredible things in the after life and how they had to win New York City back from the power hungry order! It was just such an amazing book!
They end the order. This is the fifth and last Tombquest book out of them all. This great book is written by Micheal Northrop. Adventure is a great effective element. The reason of this is that the whole thing is unexpected how the ----------, sorry I almost spoiled one of the main things about the book. Magic is another effective element. The reason of this one is that magic is like the very bottom building block. The whole series is built off of magic. The final effective literacy element is the mummy and Egyptian Gods is great. The final reason of the is that the magic in hear is Egyptian religion. So he had to include the Egyptian Beliefs. To end it of simply this book is just amazing because of the Adventure, Magic, and Egyptian Mummy and Gods.
Good ending. I didn't like the plot surrounding Alex's family. It would have been better to understand his dad a little more. It also would have been better to understand how NYC reacted to the mummies besides just blocking off 82nd street. Plus, if the gods know what the death walkers were doing why didn't they stop them or interfere more? I think I would have enjoyed the book (and series) more if the POV was a little more omniscient.
The Final Kingdom by Michael Northrop is the conclusion to the TombQuest series. Alex and Ren are back in Egypt for the final show down. Things are pretty desperate with the The Order turning themselves into Death Walkers and stone warriors. Alex also has to contend with the fact that he's the rope in a tug of war between his mother and father.
The Tombquest journey comes to an end in this five book series by Michael Northrop. I really liked this series. It was very entertaining and Michael Northrop's knowledge of Egyptian history and lore is inspiring. He spins a good story that will keep the pages turning. Michael Northrop uses an amazing amout of description, but maybe too much. I would recommend this series to any 5th to 8th grader.
