Timey Wimey
Wow, Ms. Foxe Elders and Welders world just expanded once again, as Hex and Rowan take center stage as Steampunk lovers battle time to be together. I really like Foxe's world building, and the over all series arc is very interesting, but at times I felt the love story portion of this book was overshadowed by the time travel elements. Foxe writing is really good but I felt an imbalance in this book when it came to character development. Yes, Foxe stepped up her urban fantasy plot line but made me wonder when Rowan and Hex actually fell in love. I am the type of reader that needs that one quiet moment when the characters in a book connect on a visceral level. I didn't get that with Hex and Rowan.
I did get the visceral emotional connection and angst from a secondary character Gabriel Brightlingsea. He was a powerfully written character. I got the visceral reactions I crave when Rowan met his children.
Plus there are still more than a few questions that need answered in this series and I am hooked, despite Hex and Rowan love story not being the strongest.
