Once upon a different time, there was a boy who raced through a kingdom of death. He wore a brown jacket where all others were black, and it was said that his face could snare the hearts of ten thousand German maidens at first sight. His own heart? Hidden behind layers of leather and sneer and steel. Untouchable. Until it wasn't.
This would be the year of Luka Löwe.
"Take your marks."
Double victor. Hero of the Third Reich.
"Get set."
Tough as leather, hard a steel.
"Go!"
Worthy.

This was flawless. And exquisite. It was everything a good novella should be and then some. Heck, it was almost more entertaining than Wolf by Wolf. Reasons?
I am head over wheels in love with Luka now. The guy is freaking adorable and such an amazing narrator. He's hilarious, he's gorgeous and once we get to see his softer side, insanely cute and root-worthy. In WBW we didn't know exactly what had happened, though I was able to form a general idea about the situation. Here we got to know the details of the 1955 Axis Tour, how Adele/Felix Wolfe won the tour and the falling out between the two. Let me just say that I feel sorry for the guy even though Adele had sufficient reasons that justified her actions.
I am at a loss to understand how driving a bike across miles and miles of land can sound so effing fascinating. The novella was perfectly paced and the 100 pages it covers were stunning. No scheisse.
