This book is a wonderful look at the history of the settler. It charts buildings from pre-historic times to contemporary times including football stadiums, ecological building, and international space stations.

Whether you are curious about The Chrysler Building or St. Paul's Cathedral, it provides non-fiction information about the culture, history, design, architecture, and also some interesting facts.

I highly recommend this book for anybody with an interest in sacred places as you can read about Temple Mayor, The Sagrada Familia, St. Peter's Piazza and Basilica, Amiens Cathedral, The Great Mosque, Hagia Sophia, among others.

If you want to explore the arts scene you can check out The Globe, The Guggenheim, or The Sydney Oprah House. Equally so, it has something for historians as it has information about the first homes and the first cities. It has the all important time-line at the bottom of each page for each building right up to the modern day (publication year 2007).

I would recommend this book for children aged 11-12 who can use it as a fact book about history, geography, and architecture. Given the illustrations it, which are beautiful, it suitable for younger children from 6-10 years old who have an adult to guide them. Children will recognize many of the buildings from movies they have seen. For example, The Chrysler Building appears in the movie King Kong and The Eiffel Tower and Brooklyn Bridge have also made an appearance in many movies.

Also, it is a great teaching tool.

I love this book, it has so many inventors and how their inventions have changed things for us nowadays. This book has Thomas Eddison, The Wright Brothers, Isaac Newton, Alfred Nobel, Gerardus Mercator and so many more. This was a fun book to sit down and flip through before I read all the central text, because there are a lot of smaller images and information offered to the reader.

This book is appropriate for ages 8+

I would guide kids to this book if they were trying to decide what inventor to do a project on, it gives them a large number of people to choose from. It also provides you with some fun facts about the inventors as well. At the end of the book is a glossary of terms that were used throughout the book so kids can further their learning.
