if i had to read this whole book for class, it is 100% being put down for my reading challenge. this book was. pretty interesting read when it comes to the study of consumer behavior and i did enjoy the examples. not the worst textbook compared to all my others ahah
One of my favorite textbooks so I might be biased... Well written and really makes one think about marketing from a sociological perspective. Highly recommend for your own reading or for a class. Plus, when I bought the book it was $200USD new (they didn't have any used). Looking at amazon you can find a used version for $5USD shipped!
Michael R. Solomon's Consumer Behavior: Buying, Having, and Being is a comprehensive guide to understanding the complex psychological, social, and cultural factors that influence consumer decisions. Solomon's writing is engaging and accessible, making intricate theories easy to grasp and apply.
Good for Studying: The book is well-structured and covers key topics like perception, motivation, decision-making processes, and the impact of social influences on consumer behaviour. It includes real-world examples, case studies, and exercises that help readers apply theoretical concepts to practical scenarios, making it an excellent resource for academic study.
Inspiration for Writing a Fantasy Novel: Interestingly, Solomon's principles of consumer behavior can also inspire fantasy writers. Understanding the motivations and desires that drive consumer behaviour can be creatively applied to world-building and character development in fantasy settings. For instance, crafting a society's economic systems, trade, and even the symbolic value of items can be enriched by these insights, making Solomon's work a surprising but effective tool for adding depth and realism to fictional worlds.
Read this for my college course of the same name. It was an in depth evaluation of why we buy what we do and make choices as a consumer. Great read for those interested in marketing.
