Nocturne Falls #5

The Vampire’s Fake Fiancée

Rate this book
Welcome to Nocturne Falls, the town where Halloween is celebrated 365 days a year. The tourists think it's all a show: the vampires, the werewolves, the witches, the occasional gargoyle flying through the sky. But the supernaturals populating the town know better.

Living in Nocturne Falls means being yourself. Fangs, fur, and all.

Sebastian Ellingham isn’t known for being a happy vampire. And when his long estranged wife comes to town expecting to pick up where they left off, things take a sharp turn toward cranky. Sure he’s been protecting her for centuries, but her assumption that he’s still available (he is) rankles.

His answer is to hire a woman to play his fiancée. The lucky victim is Tessa Blythe, sister of one of the town’s deputies, librarian in need of a job and, oh yes, reluctant Valkyrie. Playing along with Sebastian is all about the end game for her, the position of Dean of Library Studies at the local private academy.

When unexpected sparks fly between them, they agree to mutually deny the attraction. Fate, however, has other plans…

So far, I’ve liked this book the most in the series! I really enjoyed both characters in this book. All the secondary characters were also fun to read about.

Sebastian Ellingham is basically a Mr. Darcy Vampire. He’s cranky, keeps to himself and takes responsibility very seriously. He has a big heart, no one in his family really understands him and his estranged wife takes advantage of him all the time.

Enter Tessa Blythe, a Valkyrie that’s given up on her protective powers. When she was younger and training to be a valkyrie, she had a bad incident happen. But now, she's a librarian, loves books and all things intellectual. So yeah, she's like us folks except for the whole "female, badass warrior for Odin" part. hahaha

Tessa’s sister, another Valkyrie is a deputy sheriff for Nocturne Falls and talks Tessa into moving to the town. Tessa wants to become the Dean of Library Studies at Hardwood’s Academy. This is the school for all the paranormal children in the town.

But in order to get the job, she must act like Sebastian’s fiancé for a few days so that he can get his estranged vampire wife to sign the divorce papers. Her sister talks/dares her to do this because she really wants her to live in Nocturne Falls. Sebastian's divorce is a bit more complicated than a regular one since he's also his estranged wife's sire. And did I mention the wife is a ITCH w/ a B?!

I really loved both characters, their slow burn romance and eventual trust in each other. They were really great for each other. My favorite book of the series so far!

The Vampire's Fake Fiancée is book five in the Nocturne Falls series by Kristen Painter.

Sebastian Ellingham, the vampire, is basically a Mr. Darcy. He’s cranky, keeps to himself, and takes responsibility seriously. He’s got a big heart yet no one in his family truly understands him and his estranged wife takes advantage of him.

Tessa Blythe, the Valkyrie and librarian. She’s given up on her protective powers. She loves her books, all things intellectual, and the quiet life. Her sister is a deputy sheriff in Nocturne Falls and convinces Tessa in moving to town.

What started out as a job interview ends up with her sister setting her up to act as the fake fiancée for Sebastian, so he can get his estranged vampire wife to sign divorce papers.

I adored Sebastian and Tessa. Their relationship was funny and sweet. They ended up helping each other heal from past experiences. They also helped each other find what was missing in their lives. The romance is a sweet one. I also loved how Tessa ends up being his fake fiancée. Now for the estranged wife. She is a piece of work and boy does she cause problems and drama.

“They were a perfect fit, the recluse and the bookworm. The weapons collector and the sword wielder. The vampire and the valkyrie.”

The Vampire's Fake Fiancée was a fun read. The plot is fun, the characters are unique, and the supernatural world is enjoyable. This story is perfect for a summer read or a rainy day.

This was maybe my favorite book from the Nocturn Falls series yet. I was picturing Sebastian as Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice and Tessa as this blonde version of a sharp-tongued Kiera Knightly. He's quite cold to her in the beginning, but he has his reasons, and you can't help but sympathize with how he's been wronged in the past. At first I was a little taken aback by how rough around the edges he could be with Tessa... calling her names even, but you couldn't help but root for him to get that HEA he had been looking for and desperately trying to gain back after hundreds of years.

Evangeline made the perfect villianess. She and Sebastian had been tied together as humans by an arranged marriage, but hadn't really been together for hundreds of years, yet Sebastian still felt compelled to care for her for reasons that are slowly revealed over the course of the book.

One of the best things about this (in addition to the cat humor, and I'm not even a cat person) was getting to see more of the Ellingham brothers. This has just left me more curious about Julian and what sort of woman would ever be right for a womanizer who has been conquering them all for centuries. Overall my favorite book of the series to date.🦇🎃🧛‍♀️

Some days, you just want to surround yourself with comfort reads. *sigh of contentment*
---------------
Plot
The “fake fiancé” rom-com trope has been done many times (and in my opinion, it never gets old because it’s just so fun and funny), but in this case, there IS something different about it. The fake couple is a vampire and a valkyrie – I’ve never, ever read about such a relationship in a paranormal book before. It’s definitely original, and an awesome twist to a much-used trope.

This book is the 1st in the Nocturne Falls where the guy and girl did not like each other right away. I love seeing them get to know one another, and realizing the other person is not what s/he originally thought. It’s not quite a love-hate relationship, but it’s great to see them get rid of their first impression and genuinely like each other for who they are. People look down on them for being a bookworm and recluse – and being “boring,” but I love that they found each other – someone who can relate to them and appreciate these qualities.

Characters
--Tessa: I was not expecting to see the next “creature” in the Nocturne Falls series to be a valkyrie. I have to admit that I was not entirely sure what that was, even though I have heard the term before. After learning about Tessa – her need to protect the worthy and her badass sword skills – I’m obsessed! I really like seeing her struggle with the balance between power and control. It makes sense to see her afraid of losing control and becoming a monster. This internal conflict has been interesting to read about. We don’t really see her kicking ass because this book is not about fighting – but I admire her growth in this area. Plus, I also like that she’s a librarian who values knowledge and calmness. She is a world of contradictions, and I love that about her.

--Sebastian: That grumpy lump. I adore him. I’ve been waiiiiting for him to get his own book because he’s been so sad and bitter. Also, I’m incredibly relieved that his love interest in this book is not his wife that left him all those years ago – I mean that bitch left him and used him for 3 WHOLE CENTURIES! Anyway, I’m glad that he meets Tessa. He’s a bit of a cold, pompous man at first glance, but he has shown he can be a softie as well. The things that stand out most about him are that he’s 1) honorable and 2) loyal. I definitely have to admire him for his honor code and his loyalty to people (especially to his family). In addition, I literally dieeeeed when his cold, cold heart melted while playing with the cute kitten, Duncan.

Final Thoughts
I’m giving this book 4 stars because I love the unique characters, the fun plot, and this super creative world. It’s a thoroughly enjoyable book, and for me, it’s a perfect rainy day comfort read (which it is today for me). Because of this book, I want to read more books about valkyrie. They sound badass! I appreciate the author for expanding her creatures list in Nocturne Falls. This book has been an utter delight!

This was a very difficult book to read. The lead male character, the vampire Sebastian (and brother to Hugh - the lead in book one in this series), is just plain unlikable in almost every way. Somewhere around the 60 to 75% mark I just wanted to close the book and not continue, but I did, since this is something like the . . . um .. . 11th book by this author I've read. And I'd been able to complete all the other ones. So . . . I completed this one.

Just to remind myself later: Sebastian's wife of four hundred plus years has returned (after an absence of, roughly, four hundred years). Long story short: Sebastian’s grandmother dated a vampire in 1666 – plague breaks out, to save her family, she allowed herself to be turned, then she ‘turned’ her grandsons, who, in turn, attempted to turn their wives (well, two of the three brothers had wives at the time, the third did not). One of the wives died in the process – that’s Hugh’s former wife. Other found vampire life to be freeing and wandered off to ‘find herself’ for the last 400 years. But, as already noted, she’s back now. Sebastian has been pinning away for his wife, but her actions/reactions/comments when she returns annoy him to the point of saying that no, she can’t just slide back into his life as his wife – in fact, he already has a fiancée sooo… He doesn’t, but, meh.

Enter into the story one Tessa Blythe – who everyone, it seems, calls super plain and boring. She’s a librarian with a cat. In a crappy job (mostly because of her crappy boss). Her sister, who is a deputy in Nocturne Falls, finally talks her into moving to Nocturne Falls since there’s a great librarian job open there. So she does it – quits her job, moves . . . before actually having that other job.

During the interview a man rushes in – Sebastian – without even paying attention to the fact that anyone other than Hugh is in the room, he rants about his wife then said he needed a fake fiancée. Tessa sister is, for whatever reason, in the room with Tessa (this is kind of mind-boggling, why the fuck is the sister in there? Seriously? Is it normal for someone to have their sister join her on a job interview?) and immediately says that her sister, Tessa, could be the fake fiancée. She, Tessa, just sits there in shock. Sebastian, for his part, takes one look at Tessa, and calls her a plain mouse. And that she wouldn’t do.

One thing leads to another and the complete jackass Sebastian ends up with his fake fiancée. Throughout the story, Sebastian attempts to mold Tessa into someone else (clothing, hair, jewelry, fencing), though Tessa does, at times, stand up for herself.

The wife and the extended family meet, have dinner, stuff happens, .

A librarian valkyrie and a CFO vampire are a pair of passed over introverts who find the best in each other. The circumstances were a cliché but the characters shined.

Another entertaining instalment to what is a truly fun series to read. In this instalment, Vampire Sebastian's wife, who left him 300 years ago, returns expecting to pick up where she left off. In panic, whilst trying to prove he has moved on and no longer loves her, he tells her he is getting married and invites her to come meet his fiancee. Enter Tessa, Valkyrie, who is only supposed to be there to interview for the dean of library studies at the college run by Sebastian and his family. Suddenly she find herself roped in to pretend to be Sebastian's fiancee and that is where the fun begins.

One of the things i really liked about this one is that it wasn't as instalovey as the previous ones and though there was chemistry between the two main characters and they were pretending to be engaged, we got to see the relationship develop rather than instantly be there.

The storyline was fun and kept me engaged from beginning to end and I especially like Tessa who was strong and constantly underestimated. I really had fun with these characters and i am interested in seeing where this series goes next.

This cozy, closed-door paranormal romance was so cute! Very light and low angst.

Sebastian is a grumpy and starchy vampire, and is not pleased when his estranged wife returns after centuries expecting to pick up where they left off. Naturally he invents a fiancee. Enter Tessa, a Valkyrie librarian who reluctantly plays along, in return for a job as the Dean of Library Studies. He thinks she’s plain (at first), she wants to help him stand up to his estranged wife, and they were just adorable together.

These books are so cozy it's like coming home. I always enjoy listening to the audiobooks maybe because of the narrator's voice but also because of the quick stories easy to follow while I do something else. I chuckled a few times and that's a winner in my book.

Here we follow Sebastian, a 400 years old vampire looking for a fake fiancée to convince his wife (they've been separated for a long time) that he's moved on and that another woman can fall in love with him. At first, I didn't think I was going to like Sebastian but I was wrong.

However while I really liked this book, it used once again the ex-lover / ex-wife as the villain. I wish the author would find something or someone else to put as the villain because twice in a row, it's what happened. Now, I don't really remember what happened in the first three books but I'm hoping the 6th won't use the same trope.

Painter wowed me with another good installment in the Nocturne Fall Series.
It's not a secret, that I love the series. And The Vampire's Fake Fiancée is so far my favorite.

I've been anticipating Sebastian's story right from the first book in the series. So I was very excited about this one. But honestly I was really surprised by the story line- first I kinda didn't expect that Painter would go the whole Tessa line. Second I was most surprised by the end. I really didn't expect that Painter would go that way. But I absolutely adore that she did.
The plot is a take on the fake-fiancée becomes more... I loved it. It's super cute.
We finally get to hear how Sebastian ended up the broody Mr. Melancholy and why he pined over that elusive wife of his.

Set in Nocturne Falls, a place followers of the series have come to love, it's actually much lighter on the world building than most of the previous books. It's mostly set in Sebastian's home, I think that is kind of the reason for it. Still it's the usual wonderful and fun set up. We get to know the world of walkyries this time around. Painter did a fabulous job at taking known mythology and adding her own imaginative details. Loved the sword!

This installment is definitely character driven. And I think is does shine in this department as well. I loved Sebastian in the previous books, but I adore him now. But my favorite is definitely Tessa. She is grounded, strong, loyal and kind. I could relate to her, she is kickass with a tender heart and her reaction at the end, was so real and so level headed I utterly adore her!
My least favorite character: Evangeline. I found her too over the top and I was not quite satisfied with her reaction at the end. I mean I get she is spoilt and self-involved-- but well maybe she was just a tad too much?
We get to see quite a few of the previous characters, which is always a great pleasure. And we got to know more about Julian. I adore him!! And I got good news for all you Julian fans out there: Painter said that he will get his own book as well... but it will be a while yet. Still I can't wait!

IF you love the series. Definitely a must read. But if you haven't - this works as a stand-alone, just like all the previous books. If you like the genre, looking for a cute and entertaining read, give this a go... or even better start with book 1 ;)

In The Vampire's Fake Fiancee, the second Ellingham brother, Sebastian, finds true love with a Nocturne Falls universe newcomer, Valkyrie librarian Tessa Blythe when they fake a relationship to try to extract him from a relationship with his not-yet-ex-wife.

This may be my favorite Nocturne Falls book. Tessa has lost her confidence and has been hiding her real self behind her mousy librarian persona. It's not until she has someone else to fight for that she gets her Valkyrie mojo back. On the other side, Hugh has been so traumatized by his relationship with the selfish Evangeline that he's given up on love altogether until he meets Tessa. They have a wonderful relationship and I love the supporting cast as well.

How could anyone NOT like this book? The couple was perfect, the plot just serious enough to keep you, the evil ex-wife just sneaky enough you were never 100% sure what it was she wanted and the heroine who you knew was more than she seemed.

All of these novels in this series are just light and fun entertainment and are great books to keep around for those times when you just don't have anything that appeals to you.

Bottom Line: Pure simple entertainment, a few laughs, some semi-serious moments and a good ending. Whats not to like :) 4 Stars

Yes, I picked up another Nocturne Falls book. But you see, I've been waiting for Sebastian Ellingham's story since book 1! I've got a soft-spot for all the Ellingham brothers and when the author throws in a fake fiancée trope...well, I'm here, aren't I?
Unfortunately, it doesn't quite live up to its potential. Neither main character felt particularly developed. Their emotional hang-ups are silly for such logical characters. And the resolution takes on a 'blink and you missed it' quality. One moment Sebastian has spent 300 years feeling guilty about his ex-wife...and the next he's over it.
Okay, then.
Mores the pity because a story with valkyries and vampires ought to be a tad more exciting.

2019 bk 336. A Valkyrie who is also a librarian. What's not to like about this book. Grumpy Sebastian needs a fake fiance to fend off his fickle wife. Tessa's sister, Deputy Blythe, volunteers her for the task. Did not get a 5 star because a Dean of Library Studies would only be appropriate at the MLS, not high school, level and Tessa has no school library coursework behind her. Otherwise a fun book.

Enjoyable, even if it was a little predictable towards the end.

Things happen quickly in Nocturne Falls - especially falling in love. But no one could be more immune to that bug than ascetic Sebastian Ellingham. That is until love becomes a necessity - and more than only love... a wife!

A cute story with loveable characters and a very evil villain; a nice addition to the Nocturne Falls series.

The fake fiance storyline is well-trod. But if you can get over that, this is a nice rendition. The female lead is a librarian which always makes me happy and the male lead is not suave or instantly likeable, but a bit stiff and curmudgeonly. A solid addition to the series.

The Vampire's Fake Fiancée is book 5 in the Nocturne Falls series. This book is about Sebastian and Tessa. Sebastian is an Ellingham and the eldest of the 3 brothers. He has been closed off and pining for his wife who left him over 3 centuries ago but still contacts him for money whenever she needs it. He hasn't seen her in all that time until this book. Tessa is the sister of Deputy Blythe. She just arrived in Nocturne Falls at the insistence of her sister. Deputy Blythe set her sister up with a job interview for a fancy library dean job which is how Tessa met Sebastian. It just so happened that the interview was the same morning that Sebastian finally saw his estranged wife for the first time in over 300 years and was suddenly in need of a fake fiancée. Deputy Blythe basically offered Tessa up in exchange for the job and Tess agreed to it. Of course, once they started getting to know each other, they discovered they quite enjoyed each other's company and discovered a spark.

When the book started, I wasn't overly fond of Tessa. She kind of bugged me, but as the book went on, I liked her more and more. By the end of the book, I really liked her. More so, I really liked her and Sebastian together. I'm glad we got to see a different side of Sebastian since he is always an uptight killjoy in the the prior books in the series.

The narration is really good. The same narrator reads the whole series.

I love this series. I definitely recommend it.

Meh ! Here we go again... cute idea, cute everything - poor execution. Written poorly... Very immature writing, very immature way of handling of conflict, very simple problem-solving.... These all sound like written by a teenager... I wanted to read this because I was interested in Sebastian's story , but it ended up sounding just like all the previous ones... I am giving up on the series.

Sebastian the Vampire and Tessa the Valkyrie.
This series has been hit of miss for me but I really enjoyed this one. The MCs were reasonable adults who communicated and were honest about their feelings... crazy, I know!
Sebastian has a wife... that he hasn't seen in over 300 years when she ran off. It was an arranged marriage and she was a spoiled brat. Yet Sebastian did love her in the beginning. But now he only feels duty bound to keep her safe, as he promised her father he would. She sure doesn't make it easy though!
But now she is back and says she missed him. But she acts like she never did anything and no time has passed. Sebastian will not be a doormat for her again. He needs a fake fiance to show her that he is over her and has moved on, even if he hadn't... But when he meets Tessa, he begins to think he just might.
Tessa is a Valkyrie who suppresses her true nature because of a past incident when she was a teenager. She dresses like a middle aged prude and works as a librarian. Not that there's anything wrong with librarians. I have good friends who are. And actually, she enjoys the work. But she hasn't touched her sword since she was 16 years old.
Tessa's sister volunteers her for the fake fiance gig in return for the job as library Dean at the local school.
So they both have 'hangups from past events stopping them from enjoying life', in common.
There's a bit of mystery too as you can't help but wonder/dread what Evangeline (his first wife) really wants. And you wonder how they will get Evangeline to sign the dissolution of their marriage papers.
Safety is all good
The ending is more of an HFN (but still satisfying). There is a follow up novella where they plan to get married. The Vampire's True Love Trials

The Vampire’s Fake Fiancée is about one of the founding men of Nocturne Falls, Sebastian. He is a recluse and after having his heart broken when his wife cheated on him, then ran out with the only contact from her being when she wants money, he is done with love and people. But then she returns with an apology and a wish to reunite. In order make her grovel, he enlists the help of Valkyrie, Tessa, to attempt to prove he is a desirable man. But what happens when real feelings come to be involved? What happens when what you always thought you wanted is no longer true?

I loved the two main characters in this book. They were matched perfectly and you immediately felt their connection to each other. This was fun, sweet and a great way to spend your afternoon entering an exciting new world. Another fantastic book in this series and a must read for paranormal romance fans.

*This book was provided by the author/publisher for an honest review.

Kristen Painter continues to shine like one of the brightest stars in the galaxy! She has not only written a fantastic Urban Fantasy series complete with a spin off, but with her 5th book in the Nocturne Falls series she has also solidified herself as a comedic paranormal romance author.

In this installment we have Sebastian Ellingham and Tessa Blythe. Sebastian a rather somber vampire is married BUT not to a vampire or person he wants to be married to. He is only doing his duty to his estranged wife and keeping her under his protection. GASP she returns and now Sebastian needs a plan to ward her off.

Enters Tessa Blythe. She will play the part of Sebastian's fake FIANCE!! A Vampire and a Valkyrie sitting in a tree.... oh how reluctant they can be!! Sit back enjoy the ride! This one is super fun, but they all are of course!!

5 magical stars Kristen Painter!!! Please oh please dont quit your day job!!!

Finally Sebastian gets his book! I have been intrigued by this character since book 1 and am THRILLED with how this turned out.

As a HUGE fan of the Nocturne Falls series I couldn't wait to get my hooks into this one and as usual Kristen Painter did not disappoint, The characters are sharp and well developed, the setting is divine and yet again all I can think is WHEN CAN I MOVE THERE!! I laughed, I was irritated (in the best way), and I could NOT stop turning the pages.

An easy 5 stars from me and a deep desire for more! V""V

Of all the sweet, fun Nocturne Falls books, I think this one is my favorite. I loved how the author took the cranky buttoned-up Sebastian and layered him with such honorable and endearing reasons. Then, pit him against his perfect foil... An equally buttoned-up librarian who has just as many skeletons to overcome as he does! Throw in the fact that he is a vampire and she is a Valkyrie (c'mon, how often to we get to see THOSE in paranormals!) and you have the makings of an almost perfect romance!!

Fifth in the Nocturne Falls magical realism fantasy series and revolving around a small town in Georgia that celebrates Halloween 365 days a year. The couple focus is on Tessa Blythe and Sebastian Ellingham.

My Take
Wow, Sebastian is carrying this loyalty thing way too far, far enough to make him a pushover! As for Tessa . . . whoa, what a wimp! She's not like any valkyrie I've ever "met". Although I did enjoy that comparison Painter made between the sisters — one who likes guns, cold beers, and catching criminals versus the other who likes art, literature, and beauty.

I love it! Sebastian realizes a lovely truth, which leads us into the story . . . and leads to my despising Evangeline! Unfortunately, that truth leads to Sebastian sticking his foot in his mouth, poor baby, over and over and over. Of course, with Tessa shaking things up, Sebastian starts to question his choices.

We do learn more of the Ellingham backstory and why Sebastian feels so strongly about Evangeline. It's that dilemma that enables Tessa to resolve her own character arc. It's all a win-win for everyone, including the world!

Lol, the whole situation leads to great fun for Jenna . . . she gets to do a makeover on Tessa who prefers the middle-aged lady look, lol.

I do kind of hate reading this series. Painter is always describing Delaney's sweets, and I WANT SOME!

Ooh, snark! Part of the grounding is Painter using third person dual protagonist point-of-view from Tessa's and Sebastian's perspectives, so we read their responses to each other (and others) as well as their thoughts about the comments. Oh yeah, laughter r' us. Greaves taking Tessa's side in the kitten argument only makes it better.

Hmm, what is with Grandmamma? Her grandsons are old enough, oy, to live their own lives and she's threatening them?? No. That's simply not on.

It's simply too sweet. It's about kindness . . . and the lack of it.

The Story
The unwanted return of Julian's globetrotting, world-spending wife and a reluctant valkyrie, Tessa Blythe, needing that job, leads to a fake engagement intended to "prove" to Evangeline that Julian has closed the chapter on his wife.

The Characters
Tessa Blythe, a reluctant valkyrie who happens to be a librarian, has a new kitten, Duncan. Kettlingr is the sword she no longer draws. And she may have a new job as Dean of Library Studies. Her sister, Jenna, is a deputy sheriff in Nocturne Falls and has embraced her inner valkyrie.

Sebastian Ellingham is the oldest ("technically" the Duke of Sinclair) and handles the finances of the family and the town. Greaves is Sebastian's rook and had been his valet before he was turned. Sebastian's wife is Evangeline, a vampire he only sees when she needs money. To complicate matters, Sebastian is her sire as well. She's using the name Eva Wynn these days. Lord Heathcote had been Evangeline's father, a marquess and a great friend to Sebastian's father.

Nocturne Falls is...
. . . the Tim Burton version of Disney and a refuge for supernaturals. A place where they can be themselves. It's also a town mostly owned by the Ellinghams, a family of vampires. Hugh is the second oldest, and he's married to Delaney ( The Vampire's Mail Order Bride , 1) who owns a sweets store, Delaney's Delectables. Stanhill is Hugh's rook. Julian Ellingham is the youngest brother (and grandson) and is considered the playboy of the three. Elenora "Didi" Ellingham is their grandmamma. Alice Bishop is Elenora's powerful witch secretary, who made it possible for the Ellinghams to daywalk. Frauke is Grandmamma's cook.

Luckily Greyson Garrett, a Roma and a vampire, is happy enough to fill in as Vampire of the Day (VOD) for Julian. Mrs Turnbuckle owns a D&B, a dead-and-breakfast inn that caters to vampires and other supernaturals. Willa Iscove is a fae jeweler who runs Illusions; she hooked up with Nick Hardwin in The Gargoyle Gets His Girl , 3. Jasper is her cat. Corette Williams runs the bridal shop, Ever After. Sheriff Hank Merrow is a werewolf and married to Ivy ( The Werewolf Meets His Match , 2). Alex Cruz, a panther shifter, is another of Merrow's deputies.

Harmswood Academy is a private school for supernaturals in Nocturne Falls. The Poisoned Apple is a local pub.

Mrs Unger is Tessa's nasty boss. Varren had been a berserker who sent Tessa into a rage. Being a rook provides the privileges of both sides: more strength, more speed, and sharper senses without being affected by the sun. Alard Desmarais is the vampire who had turned Grandmamma.

The Cover and Title
Aww, it's a wedding on the cover. There's a bright red border at top and bottom; the top also has sparkling stars with a paler red full moon on the right. Two-thirds of the cover is a graphic design in the middle with a rose-covered arch slightly off-center with Sebastian in a tux and holding out a huge diamond ring to the poufy blonde Tessa in her form-fitting white dress, a couple of books clutched in her right hand and holding a sword, pointed at the ground, in her left. On the left, Tessa's brown and black-striped kitten, Duncan, is on top of the the series pumpkin, which is slightly above the wooden sign indicating the series info in yellow. The title is in a slightly gothic font in white with a thick black outline. The author's name is below the couple in white with a black outline. Beneath that is an info blurb in white with a thick black shadow of a background.

The title is Sebastian's dilemma and salvation: The Vampire's Fake Fiancée.

Y'all. I lied. Sebastian and Tessa are my new favorites in this series. Tall, dark, handsome, and broody? Ummm... yes please!

I have been intrigued with Sebastian from the very beginning. There's just something about him that pulls you in and makes you want to be the one who understands him. After hearing how horrible (understatement of the century) his estranged wife is, I knew it was going to take someone pretty amazing to bring love and happiness into his life.

And Tessa was just that. She's a Valkyrie and has been hiding her powers since an unfortunate accident happened when she was a teenager. Being a Valkyrie, she's able to sense people's intentions and whether they are lying or not. Because of this, she was able to see past Sebastian's grumpy gruffness to his heart and see not only who he really is under that tough exterior, but what he really needs in his life.

Tessa and Sebastian didn't know it at the time their "arrangement" began, but they're the best thing that's happened to each other. I loved watching them push each other to see past the heartache and the pain and realize just how truly strong and amazing they really are. Fate knew what she was doing when she brought these two together.

This is a phenomenal addition to the Nocturne Falls series. I swear, the more I read, the better the books get. Series like this make my heart smile! I cannot wait to dive into Roxy and Alex's book next.

Ms. Painter is doing an excellent job of sucking me in to her world. I cannot tell you how happy I am that I finally gave her books a try. They're just what the doctor ordered!

Y'all. I may or may not be a bit bias, but I am loving these two! What do you think?!

So these are cute, fluffy reads with a mystery and a romance. The last had the ex coming back into the life for some nefarious reason and this one is the same. In that one she but in this one she just want to which no one wants her to do. Both the characters are cute and made for one another. The romance is subdued as in all of these and there is no graphic sex, just kissing and then they sleep together. That is pretty much what you get. I liked this one a little better than the last 2 so bumped it up. Main it was the couple and how they just seemed right with one another.

So you could easily read this as a stand alone. The first 2 chapters are included at the end of the book. If you don't want to read on, either stop reading or stop the audio. They definitely pull you in.

When you're in the mood to suspend disbelief and travel to another, fantastical, world, with romance and fun along with it, these are the perfect, and light escape reading. The Vampire in question is Sebastian, the buttoned-up, detached Sebastian. Abandoned by his wife for 300 years he is understandably cynical and rejects any idea that love, for him is possible. He no longer loves her or wants her in his life but he feels strongly responsible for his spoiled and selfish wife. When she suddenly shows up in Nocturne Falls and wants to "get back together" he is not only suspicious but repulsed. Telling her he has moved on and found someone else she doesn't believe him and, foolishly, he invites her to dinner to meet his "fiancée". Unfortunately, he has to now find a willing woman to pose as his new love. Coincidentally, Tessa Blythe has come to town to interview for the post of librarian at the private school. She agrees to play along with Sebastian, mostly because he can give her the dream job she wants. Interestingly, Tessa is a Valkyrie who has suppressed all of her warrior instincts in the fear of the violence she can cause. There's no doubt that they will fall in love but it's a fun experience to watch Tessa thaw Sebastian's cold and hard heart and Sebastian bring out the warrior spirit of Tessa. Again, enjoyable and light books that take you away from the real world for a while.
