I've been writing as long as I can remember and all of my stories always held a thread of romance (even when I was writing about a prince who could shoot lasers out of his eyes). I love creating unique characters, love giving them happy endings and I even love the voices in my head. There's no other job I would rather be doing. In September 2002, when I got the call that Silhouette Desire wanted to buy my first book, Desert Warrior, it was a dream come true. I hope to continue living the dream until I keel over of old age on my keyboard.
I was born in Fiji and raised in New Zealand. I also spent three years living and working in Japan, during which time I took the chance to travel around Asia. I’m back in New Zealand now, but I’m always plotting new trips. If you’d like to see some of my travel snapshots, have a look at the Travel Diary page (updated every month).
So far, I've worked as a lawyer, a librarian, a candy factory general hand, a bank temp and an English teacher and not necessarily in that order. Some might call that inconsistency but I call it grist for the writer's mill.
“He’d do anything for her, I think.” Whatever Sascha had expected to feel from Kaleb, it hadn’t been that raw violence of love. “She’s the same.” The two were as tightly bonded as changeling mates. “It makes Kaleb more dangerous now than he’s ever been.”
Sascha evaluates the relationship of Kaleb and Sahara. And she is more than happy with what they feel.
It was a cute scene where Kaleb and Sahara meet with Sascha and Lucas. We got a scene like this in one of the books. This one is a bit different. Doesn't add to the series or take anything away.
Can be read in Nalini Singh's 2015 Newsletter here.
Oh Hallelujah! I was so disappointed when this scene was mentioned, but not elaborated on in Shield of Winter. I figured this meet up would be epically fun and it was that.
Two powerhouse couples in the series with two seriously big-time alphas was just too good. Loved getting this expanded deleted scene of how exactly things went down. Sascha wants to check the temperature of Sahara and Kaleb's relationship and she gets an eye-opener. Love this!
This was a really good deleted scene. It was actually in Shield of Winter but it was a much shorter scene in the book. I can see why they didn't feel the need for the longer scene in the book but the longer version is an interesting glimpse. :)
A free short story, 13.1 in the Psy-Changeling paranormal romance series, revolving around shapeshifters and psychics. The focus is on two couples Sascha and Lucas of DarkRiver and Sahara and Kaleb of the Psy.
If you're interested, there is a chronological listing of the Psy-Changeling books on my website.
My Take This is a deleted scene from chapter 7 in Shield of Winter, 13, which was included in Nalini Singh's newsletter dated 10 March 2015.
Singh is using a third person simple subjective point-of-view from Sascha's perspective, what she feels and thinks.
It's a simple story with feelings and a small bit of chat amongst four people, all of whom have some psychic ability.
There isn't much action, but it is all about the characters. And I'd say you should have read the series in order to really grasp the importance of this meeting.
The Story It's an important meeting, one in which Sascha intends to test the truth of Sahara and Kaleb's relationship.
The Characters Kaleb Krychek is an extremely powerful (and a deadly predator) Psy with two cardinal powers: telekinesis and teleportation. He will do anything for Sahara Kyriakus, his mate and a Cardinal Psy who had been imprisoned for seven years.
DarkRiver is... ...the leopard pack in the San Francisco–Bay area led by Lucas Hunter, an alpha black panther, and his mate, Sascha Duncan, a runaway Cardinal E and daughter of the ruthless Nikita Duncan, one of the leaders on the Psy Council.
SnowDancer is... ...a neighboring pack of wolves which is led by Hawk.
The Title The title is a critical moment establishing trust in "Kaleb and Sahara’s Meeting with Sascha and Lucas".
If I hadn’t know beforehand that Nalini had written a separate story on this, I would have been pissed that this scene had only been brushed over in Heart of Obsidian. Kind of like how I’m still pissed that people keep referring to Sahara’s time at DarkRiver, which is barely shown, and which I, for one, would have loved to have pages and pages of material on. Hmph. Anyway, there’s not much I can say about this story, because it’s pretty much what the title indicates it to be. It remains hilarious how everyone keeps being stunned at how Sahara could possibly be with Kaleb, in a “Sahara…...are you SURE” fashion, especially when she pretty much has final deciding power over everything in their relationship. Loved that she and Sascha get along so well (though, again, backstory please!!!), and just decide that the men should become friends too, even though Lucas is still refusing to acknowledge his best friendship with Hawke.
Leaning back in his chair, his arm along the back of Sascha’s, Lucas shook his head. “No—you put your life at deadly risk to protect this city. It’s not something the pack will ever forget.” His eyes never broke contact with the star-filled black of Kaleb’s cardinal gaze. “In point of fact, my mate thinks we should be friends.”
It wasn’t quite what Sascha had said, but she watched in interest for Kaleb’s response. It wasn’t, however, the cardinal who answered. “Of course you should be friends.” Sahara’s smile was dazzling. “Otherwise, it’ll make my visits to DarkRiver very uncomfortable.”
“There,” Kaleb murmured, an ice-cold shark in his black on black suit, “the decision is made.”
Gosh, I am swooning.
Another sweet moment:
"Maybe,” Sascha teased, her toes well and truly curled. “Now, let’s go talk to your other feral friend.” Lucas growled, the sound so deep it filled the room. “Stop calling Hawke my friend. He’s a wolf. It’s against the laws of nature.”
This is worth a read if you are as obsessed with Kaleb as I am, I really wanted to know how DarkRiver would be when face to face with Kaleb and Sahara for the first time. I'd love a Vaughn and Faith round for dinner short story as well! :D
"Kaleb and Sahara’s Meeting with Sascha and Lucas" is a short story from Psy- Changeling series.
Sweet short story of Kaleb and Sahara having a couples meet with Lucas and Sascha. Effective in conveying Kaleb's feeling to Sascha and us. Also a grumpy Lucas as bonus!
Lucas growled, the sound so deep it filled the room. “Stop calling Hawke my friend. He’s a wolf. It’s against the laws of nature.”
Nalini Singh gives her readers a wonderful set of free short stories and deleted scenes. The can be found here: http://nalinisingh.com/extras/deleted... Take the time to read them. They provide an insightful look at the things that Singh thinks about her characters but does not have room for in her novels.
When reading the Psy-Changeling series Inwas really looking forward to Sasha and Lucas meeting with Kaleb and Sahara and then I was so disappointed when it was just glossed over. Glad ai got to know what happened!
Kaleb and Sahara visit Lucas and Sascha to get DR co-op. They really just want to see that Kaleb and Sahara are the real deal. Sahara is as gracious as ever, Kaleb surly but willing to do whatever Sahara wants.
