This is a fun novel in Simon's (originally Pocket) long-running series of novels based on Angel, the television series spun-off from Whedon's Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It's set during the third season of the show, and all of the characters are present and well-written, especially Lorne and Fred. It opens in Lorne's karaoke bar, Caritas, where Fred is kidnapped, and Angel and company have to do some real detective-style investigation to locate and rescue her. The different accounts of the eyewitnesses to the attack are quite absorbing and cleverly written. A fast, fun read...cue the cellos.
