This is the story of Sir Geoffroi, the right hand and friend of Ren from the previous book.
Here, besides the love story between Geoff and Emma, much was told about the way the Saxons was treated by the conquering Normans. It is much more bloodthristy and cruel. There're some scenes that could make you gag. There's an awful lot of violence and suffering...
Emma is a daugther of a rebel half-Saxon half-Dane Lord who has been fighting William's army. She loves her father, but has enough of the people around her suffering and wants the fighting to end, but doesn't want to betray her father. So she helps everybody who need her help: raped woman, orphaned children, families who lost everything to war.
Geoff is torn too between his loyalty to William and the suffering his army is inflicting to innocents.
He and Emma slowly learn to trust each other thanks to Geoffs sweet nature and willingness to understand Emma and help her. Trust obviously leads to love for both of them.
But Geoff doens't know who Emma really is and Emma keeps her secret for a very long time.
The story is heart wrenching and I wanted Emma to confess her secret, but at the same time I could understand her desire to keep her secret because of the love for her father. I wanted Geoff to do something more to convince William that what he's doing is wrong, but I also could understand that it was impossible.
“Where now is the warrior? Where is the warhorse? Bestowal of treasure, and sharing of feast? Alas! The bright ale-cup, the mail-clad warrior, The prince in his splendor---- those days are long sped In the night of the past, as if they had never been!”
From the Anglo- Saxon poem: The Wanderer
Rouge Knight is the second book in the Medieval Warriors series, and gets off to a rousing start and builds upward to a stunning and epic conclusion.
Emma is outraged over the carnage and cruelty she has witnessed from the Normans, fully backing her father's alliance with the Danes, who have begun an uprising against King William.
But, it is a French Knight that will come to Emma's aid on more than one occasion, and therefore finds herself in the most heart wrenching and precarious situations one could possibly imagine.
Geoffroi is loyal to William, but sees the same over the top cruelty Emma does. But, he never suspects that Emma is caught in the cross hairs, and her secret could tear apart all the love and trust between them if it ever came to light. Eventually, Emma will have to take a stand. But, which side will she take?
Emma is a strong female protagonist, loyal to her family, but in love with a man who, while very honorable, plays for the other side. I am sure that this happens in real life in any war. It's often a 'no win' situation, and at times, Geoffroi, detested what his fellow warriors did in the name of the king.
So, we have a little bit of forbidden love, a fierce uprising, and divided loyalties, mixed with intrigue and adventure, that makes this a deeply layered tale, one that will stir up your emotions, have your heart racing and then melting.
When historical romance novelist these days use the excuse of “I'm a romance writer, not a historian”, to push aside any inaccuracies or expansive liberties they take, I say “Bah!”
I challenge them to read any novel written by Regan Walker, to get an idea of how to write a great romance within the historical fiction context. Great and epic romances are often told amid the backdrop of real events or are based on real people.
A historical romance can be every bit as sensual, romantic, and filled with passion, and still have accuracy, authenticity, and realistic historical details, without offending the sensibilities of the modern reader.
Regan Walker always goes the extra mile to bring her stories to life, igniting the imagination, transporting you into a long ago era that is endlessly fascinating and absolutely riveting. The writing is excellent, the research impeccable, and the love story is epic. You can't ask for more than that.
#2 in the new and exciting "Medieval Warriors" series, but can be read as a stand alone. Another beautifully written tale of honor, Knights, passion, romance and love. Ms. Walker writes a vivid portrayal of the Norman Conquest, during the turbulent times of 1069 in England. A time of turmoil, betrayal, treason, sacrifice, angst, and amongst it all finding love, acceptance, forgiveness and healing. Fast paced, action packed, thrill ride of emotions from angst to passion to healing and love. Fans of Medieval Historical Romance will be mesmerized by Ms. Walker's intense knowledge of the era, the times, the turmoil and how she is able to bring her message across to her fans. Ms. Walker is another one of my favorite Historical Romance authors. She draws the reader into a story and holds them mesmerized. Her characters are realistic, but charming, endearing and engaging. The stories are mesmerizing! I absolutely love this series and highly recommend it to fans of Medieval Historical Romance, the Norman Conquest, England and intriguing romance. A true storyteller! Another hit!! I look forward to the next installment.

In the city of York, the year 1069, three years after the Norman Conquest, there is great unrest amongst the people. There is much hatred for King William I, a power hungry, ruthless leader who cares more for his crown and treasures than he does for his people. He travels the country, determined to punish the rebels who take up arms against him. “By the splendor of God, I will have my vengeance in the North.” In the midst of the upheaval, Emma of York, widowed daughter of the leader of the rebels, meets Sir Geoffroi de Tournai, a Norman knight in the service of King William. Their meeting would change their lives forever. Emma hates all Normans but is finding it difficult to hate Sir Geoffroi when he has come to the aid of her and her family many times. He has proven to be a kind and courageous man. Could she learn to love her enemy? She is torn by her loyalty to her father Maerleswein, Danish nobleman and former Sherriff of Lincolnshire, currently the leader of the rebels and her and her developing love for the Norman Knight Sir Geoffroi. Could he ever forgive her if he knew who her father was? Regan did a wonderful job letting the reader know the plight of the people in time of war. One can only imagine how they would cope with the aftermath of such devastation. How would you go on and care for your loved ones? How difficult it must have been for noble knights faced with the orders of the King to kill all including the innocent and plunder the land. When I read one of Regan Walker’s books, I go to her Pinterest page. When researching for her book, she creates a wealth of information regarding the time in history and the places and people we will meet in the story. It puts me right where I need to be to enjoy her creation. As with Red Wolf’s Prize, Regan Walker did an outstanding job with Rogue Night. I look forward to the continuing books of the series; Rebel Warrior and King’s Knight. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Rogue Knight is yet another brilliant novel from Regan Walker. It is the second in the Medieval Warriors series, and although the characters from the first installment do make an appearance it is a standalone story. I love fiction set in the medieval era, and this one is the perfect blend of historical romance and action. Emma and Geoffroi are two characters that you really root for, and I was willing Emma to follow her heart as she was torn between her duty to her father and her love for the Norman Knight. It's easy to see why she fell for him. Geoffroi is honorable, courageous and loyal, the perfect knight and worthy of his title. Emma herself is brave, generous and devoted to her family. It is clear that a lot of research went into this book; the attention to historical detail is spot on. You can easily picture war torn York and Geoffroi's picturesque home of Talisand as if you are seeing them with your own eyes, and yet the detail is not overwhelming. It is very much a character driven novel, and every character adds something to the plot - even if they only make the briefest of appearances. Regan is a master of her craft - her novels instantly draw you in and keep you reading, and leave you with a smile on your face.

York, England. December 1068. “Where now is the warrior? Where is the warhorse?/Bestowal of treasure, and sharing of feast?/Alas! The bright-cup, the mail-clad warrior,/The prince in his splendor——-those days are long sped/ In the night of the past, as if they never had been!” Excerpt from the Anglo-Saxon poem The Wanderer’. ReganWalker’s Rogue Knight (Medieval Warriors #2) has the excerpt from an Anglo-Saxon poem (stated above) on the page before the story begins and gives the reader ‘food for thought’. York is a major city in northern England. In 1069 William the Bastard as he is referred to in this book wants all of England. A castle has been built to watch over York. ‘Harrying the North’ is the term for what William I did to the Northern area, and it was horrific. Mass slaughter, ruining the farmland so nothing would grow. The Yorkists and people in the surrounding area hated William and the Normans. What are Emma of York and Sir Geoffroi De Tournai to do about their attraction to one another? Is Emma a spy for the people of York? Will Sir Geoffroi have these ‘traitors’ arrested and tortured? The author uses real and fictional characters to tell her story., and with her writing, the story pops of the page and circles the reader. Well done! 4 stars
Another of Ms. Walker's marvelous Norman knights (Sir Geoffroi de Tournai) and a daughter of the conquered people’s rebel leader in England (Emma of York), working to mitigate the senseless slaughter of a Norman king, meet on a bloody battlefield. And yes, they fall in love despite all of the familial and political obstacles. It is a wonderfully descriptive love story, proving again that something beautiful can come of something ugly. Ms. Walker’s writing and research on the history of that era brought the story to life for me, at times making my heart pound as if I were a participating witness instead of a bystander. I find it difficult to wait for Ms. Walker’s next novel! An unpublished copy of this book was given to me by the author for an honest review.
This is the first book I have read by Regan Walker and I have to say that I loved it, Rogue Knight has the perfect amount of romance, adventure and history. I have really grown to love Medieval era Historical Romance, I find that when done right they are educational as well as exciting and romantic, and Rogue Knight is spot on.
This was a hard one for me to review because while there were so many things I appreciated about it, it just didn’t have the impact I was hoping for.
I have been a fan of Regan Walker’s for a few years now, and I’ve enjoyed her books, some more than others. The Red Wolf’s Prize was a great introduction into this series and into Walker’s wealth of research and knowledge into this period and events. I will definitely read any other books she adds to this series, as I do love the characters.
As I read along through Rogue Knight, I often pondered why I wasn’t “feeling” the romance between Geoff and Emma. The history was alive and dramatic, the battles descriptive and thrilling, the characters likeable and relatable. So what was keeping me distant, emotionally? When I finally closed the book it occurred to me. The characters spent way too much time apart, not just in proximity but in interaction and thought. Their attraction was believable, but their love? Not so much for me. I still liked each of them and thought they paired up well, but it was like looking at individuals on paper with their attributes listed out and then matching people up by their complimentary traits, rather than watching the two of them fall deeply in love with each other.
There was also a lot of redundancy, brought about by the frequency of shifting POVs. Often, we’d relive an event, an encounter or a conversation three times through three different persons’ perspectives. I feel that affected the pacing, and as I really thought about it, I don’t think the story was served by the sections in Maerleswein’s POV at all. They were interesting, from a historical point of view, but didn’t serve Emma and Geoff’s love story, in my opinion.
I’m as much a history buff as anyone out there, and I was fascinated by Walker’s retelling of history, and if this book had presented in a different genre, I would have had a different expectation and experience. But I expected (and wanted) a romance that reaches into my heart and yanks hard, wrings tears from my eyes and makes me hold my breath. I wanted a hero and heroine who fight desperately through seemingly-insurmountable odds, to be together. And I don’t feel like that’s what I read.
I feel like I read a wonderful history during which a love story takes place. I wanted a sweeping love story during which history takes place.
The writing is excellent, the history spot on. It was a great story. It just wasn’t a great love story, in my opinion.
Rogue Knight is book 2 in Regan Walker's Medieval Warriors series. In it the author expertly brings the enemies to lovers theme vividly to life in a passionate, blood stirring and romantic read set during the aftermath of the Norman conquest.
The novel is set at the time when William the Conqueror was busy putting down insurrection after insurrection in the country, the north of England being particularly troublesome. Regan Walker’s research into this time period is extremely thorough and I loved how she weaves real life events and characters into the plot which explores the tensions between love, honour and duty.
Both the hero and the heroine are characters whom I quickly fell in love with. The hero of the tale is Sir Geoffroi de Tournai, who we met in the first book in the series, The Red Wolf's Prize. Geoff is a noble knight with a strong code of honour, sometimes at odds with the brutal orders of his superiors, in particular King William. The heroine, the young widow Emma of York, has noble Danish blood in her veins and her father is leader of the rebels. Emma is gentle and kind but also one who does not shy away from the responsibilities of her proud lineage in defending those who are weaker than her against the the despised Normans. However, despite the fact that Geoff is her enemy, once they meet, their mutual attraction develops into passion and a deep and abiding love.
However, Geoff knows nothing of her links to those who would see him and his compatriots annihilated, and Emma, torn between her loyalty to her father and hatred of the Normans on one side and her growing love for Geoff on the other, keeps this knowledge to herself. How will Geoff react when he learns of Emma’s duplicity and involvement with the rebels and will the couple survive the clash that is brewing between the rebels and William as he seeks revenge.
The novel had me on the edge of my seat in terms of the intensity of the plot, and how the political machinations impact on the romance between the couple. It's a super page-turning read which I recommend to all romance readers but especially those who like to escape into the past. Please note, a copy of this novel was given to me for the purpose of a fair and honest review.
Sometimes, I stumble upon what I call a “WOW” book (or, in this case, an eBook). Rogue Knight has earned that privilege. This is the second novel in Regan Walker’s Medieval Warriors Series (the first one was The Red Wolfe’s Prize – which was also a great story).
When I read a historical novel, whether it’s filled with romance or not, I want to be able to get lost in the story while learning about the time period in question. Ms. Walker has the ability to draw me into her stories through her rendition of the events that took place. A lot of research went into the writing of this series and I’ve no doubt I would happily lose myself in her notes, were I to be allowed to do that. Throughout the book, I felt as if I was right there, taking part in the events, living with the characters, witnessing the events that took place in York, right after the Norman conquest of England.
I’m not going to repeat the blurb as people can read it and decide whether or not they want to get the book. But, let me say this: as much as I’ve loved the Red Wolf and Lady Serena, I can say I’ve loved Sir Geoffroi de Tournai and Emma of York even more. They were perfect for each other. There was just the right amount of hurt and comfort in their story to make me unable to stop reading. And I was totally enthralled by the historical elements, to the point of wanting to read more about that period of time. This is the type of story I would gladly buy in print.
I was given a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
The 2nd book by Regan Walker set just after the Norman Conquest is the story of Sir Geoffroi de Tournai, the friend of Sir Renaud De Pierrepont, the Red Wolf.
There is an uprising in York and King William has sent for the Red Wolf but he can't go as he has had an accident and is healing, so he sends Sir Geoffroi with a contingent in his stead.
Emma of York is the daughter of a rebel leader, Maerleswein, her adopted son Ottar has followed some of the rebels and is knocked on the head when she meets Sir Geoffroi and he helps her to get him back home, twice more Geoff helps Emma and she begins to realise that not all Normans are bad. She begins to have affection for Geoff, which turns to love, but what would her father say, he already knows something, and what will Geoff say when he finds out who she is, and more importantly, who her father is?
There is another attack and only three of William's knights are left in York alive, what happens next? I'm not giving anything away, so to find out you will have to read this fabulous book for yourself, you will not be disappointed, as in the first book you will be immersed in the medieval life that Regan writes so well, you can almost touch the characters, they become so real, you would think you are living it.
You won't want to put the book down, it's another keeper.
Rogue Knight, Geoffroi and Emma were a great pair. I totally loved this book. Action packed, funny, and hidden secrets. From beginning to end you are wanting more and more, needing to know what happens next.
Though she is unsure of Normans, she realizes not all are bad. She tries to fight it, but knows she cannot. He learns the price of love.
You can read this as a stand alone or as the series and not feel lost. The side characters are developed well and you find you are fond of them. The story line and plot are spot on. If you want a good book by a great author then this is it.
2.9 Rogue Knight was an enjoyable read. It wasn't as excited nor emotional as I first thought but the story was sweet and the language was beautiful. I like the plot but the pace was slow and too many unnecessary details I felt like the story was dragging without point. Romance was too mild and chemistry was too little to my liking. IMO it was a little too bland for medieval knight.
This is book 2 in Regan Walker's medieval knight series. I absolutely loved this story. I am a big fan having of true history being weaved into a fictional story and Rogue Knight successfully accomplishes that in spades! This is the story of the years after the Norman Conquest and how King William the Conquerer wants "to put all of England under his rule as well. This story it it how William wants to conquer the the city of York and was ruthless how he goes about it and how the people of York hated his and his Norman invaders. Also how everything was for the taking from the young, the old and the innocent. The people had enough with his treatment of them and his outrageous taxes, but this time they were determined they wouldn't lose with the help of the Danes. Although I don't think anyone expected Williams's wrath to be so great, to burn and salt everything that forced the people into starvation. In which those he didn't out right murder died of starvation, most of York did die Sadly, it would take centuries until York would be inhabited and livable again.
York, England, 1068
The hero of this story is Sir Geoffroi de Tornai the fair haired knight some might remember from book one, the Red Wolf's Prize, best friend and rejected would-be-suitor of one of Lady Serena's widowed ladies. As he is commanded, by King William, to come to York and quash the rebellion, but it here he see's the most beautiful women he has ever laid eyes on. He know she hates everything Norman and understands it too, but he is determined to become her protector offering his service if ever needed.
The heroine of this story is Emma of York . Emma's father in the story Maerleswein, former Sheriff of Lincolnshire, true historic figure who was a wealthy English Thegn, one of the leaders of the rebellion. When she first meets Geoffroi de Tornai she feel the attraction as does he, but feels guilty even feeling after all he is her enemy. Geoffroi sees the goodness is Emma who helps other like taking in and the care two twin orphans, her dog, and anyone else under her care. Emma can never tell Sir Geoffroi as her life and those of her father's would be forfeit. Therefore could never be a future for she and Geoffroi, but he is determined to change her mind thinking he wants this women! What will happen when he finds out who her sire truly is?, Plus the fact he father wants her to marry his choice of husband in nobility, the handsome Earl of Bamburgh, former Earl of Nothumbria and cousin to King Malcolm of Scotland and also another true historical figure? You will have to find out the answers by reading this magnificent medieval read!
This book sweeps you into the history of William the Conquerer and all that suffered from his wrath plus the amazing detail was just fantastic. Another suberbly written story that draws you in with the blend of history and a few true historical figures and the fictional love story will melt your heart. This book always sweeps you in with so much emotion with treachery, murder, rape, hate, betrayal, forgiveness and of course love. Will Geoffroi finally get his happily ever after or is he determined to be a bachelor forever? Plus what will happen if he finds out Emma's betrayal of not confiding in him of her father being one of the rebel leaders? Will he betray her and give her name to William? This would result in her certain death or to hold over the head of her father to hopefully stop this rebellion. It would also force her father and possibly their entire family in prison or worse with Maerleswein's betrayal to the King. Will Emma ever see Geoffroi as being more then her enemy? You will have to read this exceptional book to find out! There area lot of beautiful and touching scences with the adopted children and their love for all the caring adults in this story and if you are a dog lover like myself you will fall with Emma's Irish wolfhound. All in all, I highly recommend Rogue Knight by Regan Walker, another riveting faced paced page turner... Loved it!
In the year 1069, unrest over the Norman Conquest is still simmering in York, England. Especially with the treatment received under the rule of men appointed by William the Conqueror. As tensions build William sends more forces to the town of York to help control the people. Unfortunately matters soon get out of hand & fighting ensues. The widowed Lady Emma of York has no love for the hated Normans – they’ve taken over the town she loves along with mistreating those she holds dear. When she witnesses an alarming situation involving her dear friend, she knows the outcome of that encounter is going to prove devastating to her friend. As a battle ensues she searches for the young boy who has been living in her home, along with his sister since they lost their parents, Emma encounters one of the hated Normans. When he offers to help she reluctantly accepts knowing she cannot get the young boy home by herself. Even though she does not trust this stranger she realizes there is a kindness about him. As this Knight takes his leave he reassures her that she can call on him any time should she need help. An offer she finds herself using again & again. Sir Geoffroi de Tournai serves as a Knight under William the Conqueror and a more loyal Knight you will not find. Until the latest battle in York. After the Castilian is murdered by people of York a gruesome battle ensues, a battle that could have been avoided. As Geoffroi walks amongst the dead he comes upon a beautiful woman & her large dog walking among the dead as if searching for someone. As he speaks to her he can see the hatred & distrust in her eyes. When she spies a young boy who is hurt he offers to carry the boy to her home then surprises himself by offering his assistance should she ever need it. He is even more surprised when she risks her life in coming into the castle he is staying in to ask for his help. As Emma turns to Geoffroi more & more for his help she is coming to learn there not all the enemy is to be hated. As Geoffroi aids Emma he comes to realize she has a tremendously big heart & a lot of emotional strength. But Emma harbors a secret that could destroy the love & trust building between them. A secret she is torn between keeping or telling. Regan Walker does an amazing job when researching for any of her stories & Rogue Knight is no exception! Book 2 in her Medieval Warriors Series can be read as a stand-alone but why deprieve yourself of a great story – read book 1, The Red Wolfe’s Prize. Ms. Walker does a wonderful job describing details of the time period to make you feel as if you are there – a definite sign of a great author.
Whether author Regan Walker sets her story on sea or land, she writes a fascinating and transfixing story. Her choice of descriptive words paints a picture so real, so touchable, I stand within a scene, smelling and reacting to what is described. – quite the mesmerizing read. I was no less delighted with this medieval historical romance than I was when reading her regency romances. Her desire to write her story within accurate historical events staying close to reality brings history to life for me.
I felt the despair of the people of York, their hatred of the Normans and their readiness to take back what was theirs. The Norman knights, although only pawns in the bigger picture, had to follow the edits of their king, William the Conqueror. This king was not a gentle king, nor one to use firm persuasion to rule his subjects. He was brutal with his dealings and the people of York felt his hand of death. There were times knights did things they had trouble justifying.
Under such a situation, it was difficult for love to seek its mate. Emma of York knew she shouldn’t be drawn to Sir Geoffroi, a knight who very well may have killed some of her own people. Sir Georffroi felt a protectiveness for Emma which he couldn’t explain and sought out her company whenever he could. He also helped to protect her family. Neither of the two could expect to see this burgeoning emotion have a future. Yet, might it?
It was delightful to see how the two were drawn to each other even when times became more desperate. This claiming of your soul, is one we still experience today – we can not guarantee who we are attracted to. When it is mutual, it is very difficult to avoid. Both Emma and Sir Geoffroi had powerful wills and were independent spirits. Could they override what was expected of them and complete their hearts?
I like the way Ms. Walker has organized the book. She placed the author’s note, along with a list of characters which were many, before the story. This helped me understand the various sides of the conflict and who were its players. I also thought it quite appropriate to put a map of English, Scotland and Wales as it was in 1069 with important points where the story took place.
Bottom line: Regan Walker is a gifted writer who leads you through a time portal to experience the wonders and emotion of the world she so eloquently describes.
I enjoyed the historical background to this novel – historical romances that use actual historical events and characters to help drive the plot make for exciting reading.
Rogue Knight is set in the early medieval period, three years after the Norman invasion of England in 1066. It is the second installment in the Medieval Warriors series, in which Norman knights end up falling for the charms of fiery, independent English women.
Rogue Knight is set in York, and the author has gone to a lot of trouble to bring the Viking roots of this city to life. Our heroine, Emma, is of proud Danish stock, and her father was an actual historical figure – a rebel who helped marshal the Danish help in retrieving York from the Normans. Our hero, Sir Geoffroi, is a Norman Knight who is part of the occupying force in York. He meets Emma on the battlefield, after a bloody exchange between the locals and the Normans. She is initially hostile towards him, but after he shows considerable kindness towards her, and her family, she gradually grows to trust, and love, him.
This novel had a lot of promise but what it provided in rich historical detail, it lacked in romance. Emma and Geoffroi’s love story is a gentle one, but as the plot is driven almost entirely by events out of their control, they both appear a little passive at times.
Geoffroi is a kind, decent man – the epitome of a gallant knight – and Emma is strong and brave, but apart from the obvious ‘enemy’ divide, there was little else keeping them apart. I would have liked to have seen a little more conflict between them – especially since Geoffroi so readily forgives Emma after he discovers her real identity, as the daughter of a rebel leader. Still, that said, it was an enjoyable read and I liked being able to take a peek into the Norman conquest of England.
A WOW of A ONE SITTING DON’T WANT TO LAY DOWN MEDIEVAL TALE
I will say that after reading The Rogue Knight, book 2 of Medieval Warrior series, I anxiously await the rest of the series. This is one of the best series you will ever read. The Rogue Knight includes everything and every emotion a reader could ask for. Love, action, romance, and sensuality are all included. This is a page turning keeper shelf read and reread winner. The characters were well developed and the story unfolds in such a way the reader can close their eyes and go back in time to the medieval era, become part of the characters, and watch the gripping tale unfold.
In York, England 1069, Emma of York, after witnessing the cruelty from the Normans, becomes torn between loyalty to her Danish father, a leader of the rebels, and her unexpected feelings for Sir Geoffroi de Tournai, a French Knight who is loyal to King William.
Even as the couple is on opposites sides, love and passion develop between these strong characters. Emma hides a secret, which if known, may destroy Sir Geoffroi and his knights. Sir Geoffroi becomes convinced that Emma has betrayed him, in spite of their feelings. War draws them together and tries to tear them apart, however, no matter what goes on around them they have something that cannot be denied and between them a passion they cannot resist.
Regan Walker has the great talent to allow the reader from the first page to become drawn into the story and hold them there until the last paragraph is read. The reader feels what the characters feel and become part of their history. I very highly recommend this book and author to anyone who loves reading historical romance. I anxiously await and mark my calendar for each new release.
This book covers the era after William the Conqueror, took England by force. Emma is a lady of York, whose father has become a rebel leader fighting back , against the tyrant, and heavy yolk , brought on by the enemy. Emma has many to watch over, with her faithful hound. She has taken on two small children, orphaned during the conquest, and a few others, whose needs ,she cannot ignore. A Norman knight comes to her aid, and even though she hates the Norman invaders, she cannot hate him. Much of the book involves fighting, and the Danes, and Scott's, also become involved, both wanting England. William extracts a great price, against York, and its rebels, and even into other towns. Many of the Noman knights did not agree, with the killing, and ruination of innocents. The book had a great mixture of romance, and war. Knights were pledged to their king,, and had to follow.. I loved Emma, who was brave, and noble, caring, and supplying all that was needed , for those who came to her for help. She did this, despite the risk she took to herself. I also loved her knight, and his chivalry, at a time, when pillage, and rape, were spoils of war. I understood that King William wanted to rule his people, but sometimes those he left in charge, were not honorable men. This only made many of the English ,rebel even more. War is an awful time, and all of York suffered, even the innocent. I liked the ending, and the Epilogue. It was a very good book, and book two in a four part series. I will start book three soon.
I fell completely and totally in love with this story. I had a hard time putting it down and when I had to, it was done with regret. It is so well written that as the reader I felt like I was actually in the story seeing first hand the events that were taking place.
This is not a fluffy novel, there is bloodshed, rape, and politics. It was obvious that the author took her time to fully research the time period. I sure would not have wanted to live during William the Conqueror's reign, especially as a Dane.
Our two main characters in this novel, Emma and Sir Geoffroi, seem like star crossed lovers. Emma is a Northumbrian and Sir Geoffroi is a knight commissioned by King William. Emma's father is a rebel and wants to overthrow the hold that King William has over York. Considered a rebel, her father visits her in secret. Sir Geoffroi, is a kindhearted and noble knight and helps Emma and her family in times of need. Torn between the love of her father and the Knight that stole her heart, Emma must make the decision that can cause the loss of one or the other.
There is plenty of action and adventure to be had in this story. A charming dog and a pair cute twin children also play a part in this story and it made it all the more enjoyable. Now, I'm a little bit sad to leave their world, but happy to say that they did get their HEA.
*I received this novel from the author in exchange for an honest review.*
A powerful tale of love blossoming amid war. Regan Walker has given us another great romance filled with the history of William the Conqueror, and his devastation in Northumbria. I never get bored with the way Ms. Walker weaves history into her romances. She always finds that perfect balance with fact and fiction, making us fall in love with her characters, and the places they're in. Sir Geoffroi de Tournai a powerful character from book one, The Red Wolf's Prize, returns to fight again at King Williams side in York. There he meets a widow, Emma who fights to keep her growing family together and safe from the Norman knights infiltrating her town. They both have much to overcome if they are ever to be together. I highly recommend Rogue Knight. This is a stand alone story, however book one, The Red Wolf's Prize is an amazing story as well, so I recommend you read both in any order. You'll fall in love with all the characters in the Medieval Warriors books.
This is a wonderful medieval romance set in York. Sir Geoffroi is a knight loyal to King William. Emma's father is trying to rid the country of William. So how's a woman to choose? The secondary characters in this book are wonderfully written and a big part of the story. I loved the first book in this series, "The Red Wolf's Prize", and I loved this one as well.
I particularly like this author because I do not find typos or story discrepancies in her books. Also, the history, to the best of my recollection from college classes, is accurate.
I do not write plot spoilers. If you like medieval romance, this series is a must.
I got this book for free from the author. I liked this book. I liked the sweet romance and the interesting characters in the book. I liked the historical detail put into the book. It would have been better though if it was not written so formulaically. A huge surprise would've been nice. If you don't mind predictable, sweet historical romances, read it.
The Medieval era was brutal, on and off the battlefield.
Overall, this is a heart warming story which shows that love can conquer all.
Times where volatile, wars and take overs, life and death in but a blink.the people of York taxed to their limit . Could she trust a Norman night would they survive This story from start to finish takes hold of your imagination and you travel in time to visit the way of life in an era of kings and nights. Loved the story and so will you. V lieddiette E Thomas
Though I started with book 3, I went back to read from the beginning with the Red Wolf and just finished book 2 "The Rouge Knight", with Geoff and Emma. I just loved Geoff in the first book and was looking forward to the book that would be his part of the story and finding his love. So far, this has been a fantastic series. I hope there's a story for the newly knighted squire, as he's become a character I really like too.
It was okay … for the majority of the book they are apart pining for one another, but this was NOT a love story. A man she claimed to care about, who she had been intimate with, and who’s had saved her several times and WARNED her of impending doom was left by her to face his fate with NO help for her. Because it’s a story he fortunately lived but for real she left him to just see where the chips lay. She KNEW her father planned to slaughter Geoff and his knights and said NOTHING!
