A manga series that packs quite the punch!

Nothing about Saitama passes the eyeball test when it comes to superheroes, from his lifeless expression to his bald head to his unimpressive physique. However, this average-looking guy has a not-so-average problem - he just can't seem to find an opponent strong enough to take on! He's easily taken out a number of monsters, including a crabby creature, a malicious mosquito girl and a muscly meathead. But his humdrum life takes a drastic turn when he meets Genos - a cyborg who wants to uncover the secret behind his strength!

13 pages into the story, I laughed myself half to death over this one:

Defeated minor villain: *explains his boss's evil plan in great length*

One-punch Man: Your backstory is too long! It has nothing to do with me! Go straight to the point!

One-punch Man's pupil: Master is a busy man! Tell your backstory within 20 words!

Defeated minor villain: I'm sorry! In short, our boss, Dr. Evil is interested in your body.

One-punch Man: I'm not into guys.

One-punch Man's pupil: Master, it isn't what he means, he means his boss wants to use your body for his evil experiments.

You are going to find more amazing statements/quotes within this volume.

I like the first story, but the second story isn't so good. Still, thankfully the next volume is very interesting.

What can I say, halfway through volume one I was thinking about DNF-ing this series, but now I have grasped the core concept of a bored, but also under appreciated One-Punch Man looking for a worthy challenge in a weird, mostly urban reality with multiple monstrous threats, it does feel like there's a lot more to come in this superhero comedy manga!

This volume features the threat of Hammerhead (see GIF above) and the impressively named Speed O' Sound Sonic! There's a lot of wannabe sidekick Genos in this one. A beginning to be interesting 6 out of 12, Three Stars from me.

One Punch Man, the Superhero for fun is back - and better than ever.

The artwork in this Manga is insanely good! I'd be happy enough just thumbing through the pages of these books taking in the panels and not even reading the words.

But there are words, and the dialogue just takes this story over the top and makes it something, even more, special than just pretty pictures.

We start off with the House Of Evolution storyline, which gives us Saitama's secret origin story, which swings into the Hammerhead storyline, and then we get the crazy Ninja chick, Speed Of Sound Sonic story.

I love the 'creature of the week' feel to this book. The characters are wacky and full of quirks and completely entertaining.

Such a fun book! Just like the first volume, I have no problem throwing all five stars at this one!

So delightfully g**-dam**d funny.

Yes, it really skewers other mangas and manga themes, but damn it's funny all on its own. Our hero is by far the most humble hero I've ever seen. Like, tragically humble. Easily the most powerful hero EVER and yet he's so humble he's obscure, constantly underrated, and full of ennui because of it. Poor guy. He's kinda dim, too. :)

After accidentally hitting this poor guy in the nuts:

Peter, if you get this far in your One Punch Man reading, this is the volume in which he explains his superhero training regimen.

Todd, if you get this far in your One Punch Man reading, I expect to hear your squeals of delight when you find your beloved Speed-o'-Sound Sonic shows up in this one.

There's not a lot to say about these stories. I'm familiar with One Punch Man through Gabe's group of geeks who watch anime. This is one of their shows and I have been present for a viewing or two so I can now verify that the anime follows the manga pretty well.

It's all delightful and silly in its satirization of the over-the-top hero story. However, for me, it needs to be taken in small bites because it gets boring quickly if I read too much at once. Except for when Mumen Rider, the bicyclist for justice, is involved. He's pretty much good all the time and also, the most relatable because if I still rode my bike, I'd be that level of superhero.

Saitama's mission to find someone who would actually be a challenge for him continues in volume 2. This time around he runs into some intriguing villains that not only unveils his secret (and hilarious) origin story, but also an opponent (a ninja with a peculiar name) who will shatter Saitama's reality by attacking his reputation.

The artwork continues to be strong and detailed, and will probably never wither in quality!

What makes One-punch man different from any other manga is that though it still conforms with the general "fight bad guys and make readers root for the protagonist since he is both cool and funny" shonen manga, it has a lot of quirks and deviations that one can see it as a parody of the same medium it is written.

For one, Saitama doesn't have that cheesy motivation, no Hokage dreams or finding my father kind of stuff. He's just an exaggeratingly strong guy who beats all his enemies with just one punch. So it is interesting to see how the series moves on without the drama of losing or the charm of the mantra "I'm getting stronger after each fight". Volume 2 pulls it off with funny antics and perfectly executed punchlines and two contrasting protagonists: we have Saitama and cyborg Genos.

Violence is another key. Everybody knows Saitama is going to beat all with just one punch, so the sheer amount of violence in the illustrations help sustain the fun factor and thrill in the story. Second is variety. One-punch man's backstory is revealed rather gradually, but the calculated exposition and slow story development is filled with interesting characters. Last, there is humor. One-punch Man's jokes and funny antics are spot-on and effective.

Volume 2 continues to be great, if not better than the debut volume. It is funny even for my age, violent and different. I'm a fan now.

Saitama is such a practical person and it's hilarious. He think more of the special sale day than the fight he is gonna face. He's so pure and his innocence is what makes him outstanding.

His menacing face is so freaking hilarious. Who would have thought that's a dangerous look! LOL.!

I don't really mind Saitama being bald. It is his freaking asset and I love it. The author is so genius in making his characteristics because he is loved by everyone!

I also feel really sorry for Saitama for being not famous. But they are registering so yay!

Oh, this is even better than the first one! So silly and yet it follows your standard shonen plot. Bad guy/battle then repeat. But the dialogue is hilarious and I find One-Shot adorable. This isn't cutesy, though, it's pretty violent. One-punch had to fight a bunch of bald guys who totally pissed him off for taking his look (they did deserve it, they were really bad guys) and I'm anxious to see if Genos will lose his hair too after all the training. LOL. Can't wait for next book!

Again , this volume details events i have already witnessed in the anime , but it still delivers on the funny aspect, and the art style is so good . The volume ends with the protagonist deciding to getting registered , and honestly that was the funnest part of the anime. So i am excited

Everyone seems to love this series, but it's not blowing me away. I like it and it's funny, but it's all fighting with bits of dialogue and character development thrown in. I understand that it doesn't really purport itself to be anything other than that, and that it's a satire of the shonen style, but I need a little more substance. My favorite part, though, is when he realizes that it's sale day at the market and ends a fight early so he doesn't miss all the bargains.

Now it’s getting somewhere. Saitama is still as always freakishly overpowered and most of the fights is other people. It was the intro of Sonic and the end revelation that initially drew my interest.

Good news, Season 3 is gonna come out eventually and that reminded me that last year I started the manga because I couldn't wait for the anime.

One Punch Man is by far one of the best satires ever in my opinion and Saitama is a lovable goof of a protagonist and can't help but love him. This is also a special volume because we learn the secret to ultimate power:
one hundred push-ups, one hundred sit-ups, one hundred squats and run ten kilometers EVERY DAY!!! Also, eat three meals a day, even just a banana will do for breakfast. To train your spirit, never use heat in the winter or air-conditioning in the summer.

This just improved upon the first book and grew into a completely new and often, hilarious story. The first book had its moments but this flew and gave interesting insight into our flawed unknown hero. One punch is my first asian graphic series and it is one of the best I have read, this book just reinforced my interest. The new characters only add to the mythology and I can't wait to see where they take the character next.

Read in preparation for the September manga episode of The Comics Alternative: http://comicsalternative.com/manga-re.... I'm wondering, after having read this second volume, if the premise of this series can sustain itself and not play itself out too quickly. I should read more to get a much better sense.
