Sisterhood #26

Point Blank

Rate this book
Justice For All

The members of the Sisterhood always stand together, and that includes aiding and protecting the men in their lives. Yoko's partner Harry Wong has received a phone call from his old schoolmate Jun Yu.  Jun Yu resided at the same temple where Harry's daughter Lily was training, but they were all forced to evacuate. Jun Yu's managed to get his son out, but Lily is missing. And now Jun is trusting Harry to guard the most precious things in his life--his wife Ling and their two children, whom he has smuggled to America.

While long-time ally Pearl Barnes whisks Ling and her children to safety via her underground railroad, the Sisters and their allies head to the war room to make plans. Finding Lily is a top priority, and Kathryn's partner, Bert Navarro, comes up with a way for the group to travel to China. They'll go to Macau, nicknamed "the Monte Carlo of the Orient," on the pretext of opening a casino there. The odds are stacked against them, but when the Sisterhood is involved, you can always bet on the underdog. . .

Fern Michaels isn’t a person. I’m not sure she’s an entity either since an entity is something with separate existence. Fern Michaels® is what I DO. Me, Mary Ruth Kuczkir. Growing up in Hastings, Pennsylvania, I was called Ruth. I became Mary when I entered the business world where first names were the order of the day. To this day, family and friends call me Dink, a name my father gave me when I was born because according to him I was ‘a dinky little thing’ weighing in at four and a half pounds. However, I answer to Fern since people are more comfortable with a name they can pronounce.

As they say, the past is prologue. I grew up, got a job, got married, had five kids. When my youngest went off to Kindergarten, my husband told me to get off my ass and get a job. Those were his exact words. I didn’t know how to do anything except be a wife and mother. I was also a voracious reader having cut my teeth on The Bobbsey Twins, Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys, Cherry Ames and the like. The library was a magical place for me. It still is to this day. Rather than face the outside world with no skills, I decided to write a book. For some reason that didn’t intimidate me. As my husband said at the time, stupid is as stupid does. Guess what, I don’t have that husband any more. Guess what else! I wrote 99 books, most of them New York Times Best Sellers.

Moving right along here . . . Several years ago I left Ballantine Books, parted company with my agent, sold my house in New Jersey that I had lived in all my married life and in 1993 moved to South Carolina. I figured if I was going to go through trauma let it be all at one time. It was a breeze. The kids were all on their own at that point. The dump was a 300 year old plantation house that is listed in the National Registry that I remodeled. Today it is beyond belief as are the gardens and the equally old Angel Oaks that drip Spanish moss. Unfortunately, I could not get my ghost to relocate. This ghost has been documented by previous owners. Mary Margaret as we call her, is “a friendly”. She is also mischievous. It took me two weeks to figure out that she didn’t like my coffee cups. They would slide off the table or counter or else they’d break in the dishwasher. I bought red checkered ones. All are intact as of this writing. She moves pillows from one room to the other and she stops all the clocks in the house at 9:10 in the a.m. at least once a week. When the Azaleas are in bloom, and only then, I find blooms on my night stand. I have this glorious front porch and during the warm months I see my swing moving early in the morning when the air is still and again late in the day. She doesn’t spook the dogs. I always know when she’s around because the five of them line up and look like they’re at a tennis match. As of this writing we’re co-habiting nicely.

Most writers love what they do and I’m no exception. I love it when I get a germ of an idea and get it down on paper. I love breathing life into my characters. I love writing about women who persevere and prevail because that’s what I had to do to get to this point in time. It’s another way of saying it doesn’t matter where you’ve been, what matters is where you’re going and how you get there. The day I finally prevailed was the day I was inducted into the New Jersey Literary Hall of Fame. For me it was an awesome day and there are no words to describe it.
I’ve been telling stories and scribbling for 37 years. I hope I can continue for another 37 years. It wasn’t easy during some of those years. As I said, I had to persevere. My old Polish grandmother said something to me when I was little that I never forgot. She said when God is good to you, you have to give back. For a while I didn’t know how to do that. When I finally figured it out I set up The Fern Michaels® Foundation.

I won this book on a goodreads giveaway. I have read Fern Michaels books before and loved them.. This book I didn't like. It was very confusing from the dog to the women. It was very hard to follow and understand. I hate giving bad reviews but this book was awful

Omg!!!!!!!!!! When will it end???!!!??? Soo many characters, none memorable, or even a tad likeable. Sorry but no. The story was so improbable. Who gets into China that easily?! And a bunch of vigilante women taking on triad, martial arts trained people.... And winning? Ughhh. So cheesy and fantasy-like. Best thing about this book... The mystical dog's tattered rabitt he carries around. The one thing I could actually picture and say, Aww! Cuute!!

As always can't wait for the next SISTERHOOD book. I was alittle disapointed with this one. I like when there is a little more revenge I think but still enjoyed it and can't wait till the next one.

Loved, loved, loved it!! Back in top form are the Sisterhood, their men, and Cooper. We were back to problems dealing with one of their own instead of a random person they chose to help and that always makes for a better and more emotional story. One thing is for certain, you do NOT mess with Lily and someone has. That has got everyone on edge and on their toes. Cooper is back to help and that dog...or whatever he is has at times driven them crazy and in turn calmed them down. He also got into the action this time helping with the takedown.

Going into China is very scary and both Charles and Fergus are nervous. Lizzie is doing her thing and Bert is in this one as well. The thing is, there is something up between him and Kathryn, and the ladies are scared it might affect the mission.

Harry's childhood friends are involved and one is after revenge on Harry. The others are scared. This is going to be a true test of what he learned as a child and loyalty. The thing is, Harry has the Sisterhood and Cooper to back him up.

After business is completed and they are quickly spirited away from China they realize they have left Kathryn behind and everyone is upset. This, ladies and gentlemen is you cliffhanger.

My fellow Sisterhood fans you are going to LOVE this one. I did! I cannot wait for more.

Thank you to Kingsington and Net Galley for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I had given the last couple four stars because they lacked the 'Sisterhood' touch but they are back and in a big way with a full 5 stars!!!!

This is another, far-fetched book in the Sisterhood series by Fern Michaels. As usual, the plot, action and events defy reality. This time the men have taken on a bigger role in the story, which I found interesting, except that, unlike other books, they, not the girls, seem to be calling most of the shots this time—and the girls routinely defer to them. I wonder if the idea of women as super heroes is getting old, or the author is having difficulty coming up with new ideas and twists for the books. In addition to the group, the author has inserted a new character, a dog with strange, supernatural powers, who helps guide the group through their out-of-this- world escapades. In this book, the group goes to China, to find and rescue Harry’s and Yoko’s young daughter, who, they believe, has been kidnapped by some nefarious group. Just why is not made clear until quite a way into the story. As I said, the plot of this book is as far-fetched as most of the others, and I think their out-of-this-world antics are starting to become repetitive and more unbelievable with each book. The story moves long quickly, as the group leaps from one serious, life-threatening antic to the next on their trip to China in search of the young girl as the reasons behind the assumed kidnapping and other targeting and murders that occur. I thought it was interesting that the plot centers around Harry’s martial arts abilities (this all relates to why his daughter is missing), with reminders of his early years in training in a monastery and his friends while in school there. I enjoyed the book, but, as I said, I did find it a bit over the top (but, then most of the others have been there also). The author has managed to create a vigilante group of super heroes who are women, with a few males thrown in for good measure. I enjoy reading about women who are in charge, righting the many wrongs out there. Still, the story touches on pure fantasy and will attract a reader who, like me, enjoys the escapism and further recounts of this unbelievable group of vigilantes or someone looking for something a bit different. If this is your thing, you will enjoy this book. Just be prepared, as usual, to suspend reality. I received this from NetGalley to read and review.

Love, Love this series. Highly recommend to those that enjoy: Fast reads, Some romance, crime-suspense, mystery suspense, chic lit n romance n drama, humor, action packed suspense romance, mf. Started reading Fern Michaels in 2018.
(As I write this review I'm up to book 26. March 1st 2019. & will start book 27 next week)

Just love reading this series. Must begin with book and read them in order to understand all of the people that come into the Sisterhood and when the men start coming into it. Love the changes of the Post and how everyone works together around the table. Nothing gets discussed at the dinner table but only in the war room.

Romances develop, marriages happen, punishment/revenge happens to someone who wronged someone else whether it is someone within the Sisterhood or a random person. The sisters all work together to get through the tough times and the happy times. So many twists and turns. Love, Love reading this series. I take time off after I read a couple books and read my other genres and come back to read this series.

The Sisterhood in China

When Harry has a dream about a cryptic phone call from a friend in China about his daughter, Lily and Jack has a dream about the dog, Cooper, things get crazy FAST!
Things are not good for Lily in China - but Cooper knows she is currently safe.
Plans are made and the entire group (except Abner) head for China to rescue Lily.
Can they survive and save her, the monastery, and keep themselves safe?
Fern Michaels has done it again! If you love the Sisterhood, this is a must read

I have read several Fern Michaels books and have always enjoyed them. This one was very different and not what I expected from her. I finished reading it but found it far fetched and many characters over the top. I did not know it was part of a series until after I started reading it so it could be that the book reads better if you have read the stories from the beginning. If you like nonsensical shenanigans with a wicked twist here and there you would probably like this book but I think you'll like it better if you start the series at the beginning and work your way through.

Not my favorite. It lacked the vigilante appeal of the others. The series is losing what attracted me to it in the first place, bad ass woman correcting the seemingly untouchable villains. Since they've been pardoned, they've mellowed, they go in and detain the bad guy and someone else comes in and hauls them away. In this particular book the chinese characters and places had me confused and I kept losing interest.

The latest installment in the Sisterhood series is full of interesting twists and turns. Cooper, the dog who protected Harry and Yoko's daughter, Lily, returns and plays a major role in this caper. Revenge is sweet, and we do know the Sisters know how to serve up a good dose. It was good -- 6 out of 10 for me.

Point Blank

Another great book in the sisterhood series by Fern Michaels. This one took the group to China to get Harry’s daughter and bring her back home to America. The many things they have to overcome are numerous and dangerous. This is my review and mine alone. Norma Gorrill

The Sisterhood is a group of women from all sorts of walks of life who, with the men in their lives, seek justice. In this episode, they end up in China dealing with a kidnapping connecting to a Buddhist temple.

It kept me enthralled throughout and thinking about reading more of her books if I find the time.

China, a monastery school taken over from within, children imperiled, murder. This is a tale that captures you immediately and does NOT let you go. Make sure you have time to read it in one sitting.

Fern Michaels writes a good story every time she writes. You can be sure of an action filled book that will keep you reading when you pick up her book. The Sisterhood series is one of her best series. How she comes up with so many different story ideas is a wonder.
This book takes Harry Wong and Jack Embry to China and back along with the members of the sisterhood and their men. Harry and Yoko take a front seat while they are anxiously looking for their beloved daughter Lily.
Lily had been attending the Shaolin Monastery where Harry had once been a leading student. She was attending with Jun Lu's children. Jun Lu and Harry Wong had been leading students here along with two other young men. They played a lot of pranks; but learned to be the best in martial arts at the same time. Jun Lu was considered number one in the world with Harry as number two.
One night, Harry has a dream in which Jun Lu calls him and tells him he is sending Harry something valuable for him to keep safe and Jun Lu tells Harry that he was unable to find Lily, although he looked. Jack Emery also had a dream that night that Cooper had told him he was coming to Harry and looking for something. Julie Wright, Cooper's owner, woke up at 3 AM to find Cooper ready to leave immediately. Not knowing what was going on, the men immediately got in the car to meet Julie. The three of them immediately knew that Cooper knew something they didn't and they needed to listen to him. Due to Harry's dream and Cooper's having guarded Lily until she left for China, they figured it had to do with Lily. It would take the vigilantes and all their men to find out what was going on.
It was a very good book.

Another interesting storyline that takes the Sisterhood, and their male counterparts, out of the country again, and back to China. Harry Wong, a/k/a Wong Guotin, hears from a childhood friend, from the monastery that he trained in, that he is sending him something that he needs to protect ... this being his wife and two children, who were attending the monastery with Lily, Harry & Tokyo's daughter. Jun Yu apologizes to Harry for not being able to get Lily out as well, and that the monastery has been taken over. Unknown to Harry & Jun Yu, the monks were able to get Lily out safely, with the assistance of another student that was considered to be her "big sister." Unfortunately, Jun Yu ends up being killed, as told to Harry by another childhood friend, Dishbang Deshi. The group heads to China, via Hong Kong, disguised as a tourist group. They meet up with Dishbang Deshi before heading up Song Mountain to the Shaolin Monastery. As usual, they run into trouble and have to "take out" those assisting in the takeover of the monastery, headed by Wing Ping, who had been expelled from the monastery at the shame of his family. These four boys / men, were considered the top martial artists in the world, Jun Yu being #1, Harry (Wong Guotin) #2 with Wing Ping and Dishbang Deshi close #3. With Jun Yu deceased, at the hands of Wing Ping and his triads, he wants to fight Harry for #1, so the title stays to a true Chinaman. In true Sisterhood fashion, guess who ends up on top ...

Trouble in China
This book is part of a series about a group of women vigilantes and the group that supports them. This episode has a pretty good plot and some decent twists. It also includes a dog with mystical qualities that is somewhat telepathic. He mentally communicates with the group to tell them when someone is coming and that this or that person is ok. I see it as a form of cheating when writing thrillers or mysteries. The people in the book don't need to figure out stuff because the dog does and tells them. Meh! This book has no foul language or bedroom scenes. It does have violence and gore.

I realized pretty far into this book that I have read some of the earlier books in the series, but since this one is #26, things have progressed enough that I was fairly confused for most of the book. Probably if I had read the books in between I would have enjoyed this one more, but it doesn't work all that well as a stand alone. Most of the book is set in China, in a monastery, so that part was fun, although I can't speak to the reality of the setting. Anyway, it was OK, but I don't have any urge to go back and catch up on the series.

They messed with Harry's family. When they messed with Harry's daughter it was on! The temple where Lily is training is under siege. Harry and the men and women of The Sisterhood ride to the rescue. Fern Michaels writes in the Sisterhood novels about the best thing in families; love, support, and caring. She also proves that family is not necessarily the one you are born into it's the one you make.

Family matters

Harry Wong and the rest of the gang head to a China monastery to rescue his daughter Lily.. Cooper, the dog, is going along to alert them to all dangers... Wing Ping, A childhood bully, wants to fight Harry to the death.. the outcome ends like you would expect...Bert has a major problem in China which Katherine, unknown to the rest of the gang, stays behind to help him.. Did feel the book ended rather abruptly.. so can't' wait to get to the next book..

I did not realize this was part of a series until after I read it. I felt no connection to the characters because I had no idea how they were related to each other. They obviously have a history of some sort. But, it was never touched upon in the book. The book ended in the middle of a story. This is not a book to read out of chronological order.

It took me awhile to sort out the characters, despite the fact I have read them all up to this point. I’d almost like a directory in the back of the book, of the sisters and their partners. Lol. I liked the story and if you’ve read any of the other books you’d know these folks together can do anything.

I wasn't real happy with this one.

The story didn't hold my interest like the other 25 have. I found these late so I have had the joy of binge reading the sisterhood series. I really can't pinpoint what was wrong. This did not compare to all others. I still have 5 more to read and do hope they are more like the first books.
