Katy and her grandmother have always used coffee to catch ghosts. It pays the bills and keeps them in high-end beans. But after Katy’s grandmother dies, it’s as if she’s taken all the ghosts with her.
Until Katy discovers there’s a rival ghost hunter in town, one who uses tea--of all things--and one who has stolen all her clients. But when an epic infestation threatens, Katy can’t help but get involved. It will take all her wits--and some excellent Kona blend--to fight the ghost in the coffee machine.
Ghost in the Coffee Machine is a short story of approximately 4,000 words. The story was first published in Coffee: 14 Caffeinated Tales of the Fantastic. This story is now the pilot episode for the Coffee and Ghosts serial.

Charity Tahmaseb has slung corn on the cob for Green Giant and jumped out of airplanes (but not at the same time).
She spent twelve years as a Girl Scout and six in the Army; that she wore a green uniform for both may not be a coincidence. These days, she writes fiction full-time from her home in Minnesota.
I think I found a fun new guilty pleasure! This is another of the cozy short's I found this week free on Amazon and I have had to buy the series! Such fun and in such a perfect size for tea breaks (coffee breaks) or just reading on the go. Charity Tahmaseb has written several paranormal cozy shorts about a ghost hunter who uses coffee to draw out the ghosts she catches and releases. I loved the first one Ghost in the Coffee Machine and I have to say I bought the "first season" series of 5 books last night. The first one caught me from the start and the teaser for the second book sealed the deal. This is a very interestingly presented series in that each is presented as you would expect tv or mini series episodes. I think it is brilliant and loved it so much I invested in the series.
Funny and weird, I like it! This promises to be a spooky, funny and great series. Ghost-hunting with tea and coffee. No-one can resist a good brewed, steaming cup, not even the dead...
Cute, original concept. Falls back into a fair amount of romance cliches but it fits the story mostly well. Will definitely continue reading, and hoping that the focus stays more so on the business and Katy's evolution and budding independence.
Definitely an odd-ball item which won't be to everyone's taste; yet its quirkiness left me wondering whether a second cup might just convince me that I loved it. Certainly well worth a read.
This is a great idea for a story. Imagine catching ghosts because of their love of coffee! Katy and her grandmother are the go to ghost hunters for the town. They use their battered percolator to make the coffee. Then the cups are carried to various places in the house. When caught, the ghosts are taken out into the country and released. However, business begins to decline. Upon investigation, it is discovered that someone is catching ghosts with a golden samovar of tea. Katy, now owner of the business since her grandmother has passed on, has to find ways to pay the bills. She sets out to find out more about her rival’s methods.
I loved this story! I am definitely going to look for more in the series.
I guess because it was so short and not enough information that as I was getting into it, it ended and left me hanging. I will have to read more in this series to get the good stuff. I was reading this for a monthly reading challenge we do at our library involving coffee, but it's way too short to count on our list. It was a 24 minute audio.
It's something new to know, that in this series ghost like coffee as much as we do. :)
3.5 star. As series of 'episodes' this is more a collection of shorter stories about ghost hunters Katy & Malcolm rather than an individual one. Knowing this going in I didnt have any problem with the format and was soon keen to read each new case/adventure. And I love the idea of trapping ghosts with coffee & tupperware. The way it is explained it made perfect sense and I can totally see it.
A wonderful short episode to start a series off. In the short episode you meet the main characters, learn a little back story about them all and get every thing set up to start having a little supernatural fun. I read it as an audiobook and really enjoyed the narrator. I’ll be adding this series to my list of books to read!
This book starts off very slow, but I'm the type of person I'll finish reading It. Thank goodness because it really starts to pick up momentum! It's an okay read. If you love coffee like I do I suggest reading this book.
Received a copy from the author for a review. A very interesting story. A different way of catching ghosts and what they do with them. It was short, an introduction to the series. Plan to read more of this series.
It was short and amusing. I would listen to or read more. It really helped with the cleaning. I'm not sure how the author thought of this take on Ghosts but it was new and as refreshing as a nice cup of tea.
A little too quick on the pacing but I am curious to read/hear more. I love the concept but would appreciate it if the methodology was explained a bit more, you know? After all, you can’t leave it ALL to the readers imagination :)
A fun and quirky story of catching ghosts, dealing with competitors, finding your path and lots of coffee... because who knew ghosts love coffee. Sometimes you need a story about ghosts to be less about the horror and more about the fact that even they miss a brew and are cranky due to it.
This is a cozy mystery that is just right for my coffee breaks—a chapter (or “episode” as the author arranged this book) here and there during the day is just right.
Super cute ghost story and the start of a romance! I got this for free through the apple books app and I will definitely look into getting the next in the series.
