A monstrosity that does not only feed on humans, but on their minds as well, absorbing their memories, their knowledge, their feelings. Humanity on the verge of extinction, reduced to scattered groups living in Enclaves and fighting with everything they have, including some crazy weapons that spray gel, which upon contact with the creature crystallizes and vaporizes its flesh. But, considering the enormous ever growing size of the evil mass, it seems like a drop in the bucket.

The concept of the Jagannath, a mass of strange matter that absorbs the consciousness from everything it devours, was quite fascinating. While you would assume the creature has become quite intelligent and clever with all the knowledge gained over time, at the same time it behaved like a snotty spoiled child - including its naivety and a stubborn dumbness - deeming itself a god who must be worshipped by all people. While the author did a good job explaining the possibility this contradiction, I was not fully convinced at all times.

Kimi is a tough soldier, but when she is sent to rescue a little girl that is mysteriously immune to the creature's absorption, can even hurt it upon contact, her maternal instinct kicks in an she is determined to do whatever it takes to save Lily, the only hope left for humanity. Only towards the end I was irritated by Kimi constantly feeling 'pride swelling' for Lily's courage and her 'heart overflowing' with love, which was stated just one too many times.

What follows is an action-packed hunt peppered with numerous encounters with the monster, but also with some bad people who kidnap Lily in order to reveal her powers and (ab)use them for their own survival.

Well-drawn characters, lots of action (including tons of splattering sludge) and an original plot written in a unique style make this a very recommendable novel not only but especially for fantasy/horror/sci-fi aficionados.

Review: JAGGANATH
An immediately engrossing, literally rip-roaring (literally rips, roars, deaths, and devouring on nearly every page) apocalyptic and dystopian thriller (so little of humanity is left, that civilization is only small enclaves of "citizen-soldiers"), JAGGANATH demands to be a one-session read, because who could sleep before completing its tale? I loved the excellent writing and construction, the implacability of the destroyer, its Cthulhu-ian nature, the valiant yet fatally flawed human defenders, and little Lily, the one "human" the omnipotent destroyer can't absorb nor destroy. JAGGANATH was a joy to read (and a candidate for rereading).

After trying to slog through Fantastes, and only succeeding to get to 30% because of the heaviness of the old language, switching to Jagannath was a fantastic relief. Especially when I realised that the writing style was light and playful, with loads of action that was to the point and active.

I liked the characters, Kimi and Lily, and I especially liked the importance of the canine friends too. The male cast was lacking in substance as far as I was concerned. There were plenty of them, but they played far smaller roles in the story and this became a problem when it came to characters to kill off.

The plot was engaging and while the characters dragged themselves from crisis to crisis, I found myself cheering them on. The down side to all this turmoil was that there wasn't really enough down time to get to know the characters all that well. When partners and loved ones died, I wasn't really sad because of this. It lacked the emotional connection with the reader.

If fast-paced sci-fi is your thing, then certainly try this one on for size. The tone and light conversation made it easy to read. The age of Lily (one of the main characters) really dictated the tone and voice of the piece, with some sex scenes lightly brushed over, not graphic or detailed.

Some readers have marked this as horror, but in the grand scheme of things, I found it neither horrifying nor thrilling. Perhaps this is due to the adult horror books I've read. I wouldn't consider this horror, though there was some slightly graphic descriptions of death scenes. I didn't find it overly graphic, nor too far past what is depicted in computer games these days. I believe this means it'd be suitable for most teen readers.

I didn't find any typos or errors, which is a big plus, but ultimately I felt the lack of emotional connection with the characters let this book down. It was enjoyable and engaging, but didn't allow enough reader connection.

(I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a review).

(This review may contain spoilers).

I liked the blurb of this book... and the cover was suitably creepy, one that I felt fit in really well with the plot of the story.

I found the world really easy to follow and although apocalyptic scenarios are quite a common theme, I thought this was a fairly unique idea. The Reaper was a really awful creature. Or being. Whatever it was. Its ability to absorb its prey was something that was really creepy during the course of the book. It was pretty awful when it used the forms of those it absorbed to talk to the people who knew its victims.

I really liked Lily as a character, though her personality seemed at odds with the way she acted at her first appearance. I also liked the fact that she bonded so quickly with a cat at the library she'd taken shelter in. I could definitely identify with her need to escape into an imaginary world, due to how awful her reality had become. There were times I felt a lot of sympathy for her in the book.

I did really like Kimi as a character as well. While there was a bit too much telling rather than showing, and a lot of information dumps (her attraction to Derek really didn't seem to come across as very realistic), I did like her as a character. And her friendship that formed with Lily was particularly sweet.

I thought it was interesting that the soldiers trained dogs to sniff out the infected, though I would have liked a bit more detail about how they knew dogs were able to do that. I did feel like the dogs, especially Kerchak and Spook, were really good characters in their own right. I loved the fast bond Spook formed with Lily.

I really hated Cooper and Kyle in this book. They were characters who didn't really seem to have any redeeming qualities to them. I did really like Jason and Innie, though. I thought it was sweet to see them together... and they both proved themselves to be resourceful and intelligent.

I did very much enjoy reading this book. I would read more books by this author in the future.

First paragraph: A tentacle as thick as a railroad tie burst out of the gap in the crumbling wall. The sinuous limb shot toward the Renegade soldier like a giant compressed spring releasing. Before the soldier could aim his flamethrower at it, the tentacle coiled around him and squeezed.

Yowza! as Vilma from Scooby Doo would say. This is one action ride of a good read - easily consumed in one day, I couldn't put it down today, carting my ereader with me and snatching readings here and there as I ran errands on my day off. I nearly ran into a wall in my house because I couldn't stop reading as I walked from one room to another.

"Jagannath" begins quickly and doesn't let up until the very end. The author does a great job in creating an apocalyptic world, 15 years after a terrifying creature rises up from the seas and devastates humanity by absorbing their bodies and their minds. Denney does this efficiently by weaving it in to the stories of the main characters, without info dumping on the reader. Gotta love it when the author respects the reader like that.

I enjoyed this book immensely, much more so than the author's earlier work, Soulsnatcher. The story had elements that reminded me of some of my favorite books and movies of scifi, such as the alien creature from Carpenter's The Thing, that can morph into any creature it kills, the military-training-against-all-odds that is employed in Heinlein's Starship Troopers, the machine-sniffing dogs in the epic movie Terminator. Yup, I "squeeeed" throughout most of this book.

If you're a fan of science fiction, horror, adventure, if you love a good dog story, then you can't miss with "Jagannath". It's that good.

Jagannath by Kerry Alan Denney is truly a unique ride. It is the story of an evil, blob like creature destroying humanity as it absorbs every thing in it's path, nearly wiping out the entire civilization. The more it absorbs, the more intelligent and stronger it becomes. It is now up to a select few military survivors to stop this nightmarish creature and save what is left of the world's population.
Although I enjoyed all the characters in this book I have to say my favorites were Lily and Spook. Lily, a 13 year old orphan who for some reason cannot be absorbed by the creature and the dog Spook, they create such a bond you cannot help but love them both. To be quite honest Denney's writing is so captivating it makes you fall in love with all the characters. I laugh, I cried and I cheered out loud at times when reading this book. It is a tale of good vs evil but it also encompasses hope, friendship, loyalty and love. If you are looking for a great sci fi read that will keep you on the edge of your seat then I recommend you pick up this book! Cannot wait to read more from this author.

Jagannath by Kerry Alan Denney is about an evil unstoppable monster that is destroying civilization and bringing on the apocalypse, one city at a time. The name describes a hindu god and means lord and master of the universe. Jaggernath is also the origin for the word Juggernaut and this creature is unstoppable, it absorbs humans and assimilates their intelligence growing stronger as it moves along.

Once it is done with the human race it will move on to the next planet and start all over again. There is hope though, a small band of soldiers is fighting back and one little girl named Lilly seems to be immune to the creature’s powers. Things may look bleak for the human race but as long as there is a few survivors there is hope.

My favorite character in this book is Lilly. She is a fascinating character, this is a 13-year-old trying to make it on her own in the apocalypse. The Jagannath has wiped out over half of earth’s population including her family, she has raised herself and has learned about life through reading books. Lilly constantly compares herself to the heroes that she reads about and sees herself as a coward, but its obvious that she is no coward.

One of my favorite parts of the book is when Lily is being held captive by a group of five abusive survivors. Lily gets tired of how they abuse their dog, her and each other. She even goes as far as saying she would prefer being with the monster over their company. As the situation escalates and Lily gets tired of the abuse, she thinks to herself: “Fraidy-cats could only be pushed so far before they hissed and bared their claws.” At this point I found myself wanting to yell out loud: “Go get em Lily.” I loved the idea that despite seeing herself as a fraidy cat, she is the toughest character in the book.

The people in Jagannath go through hell and back, but never give up. Another part of this book I enjoyed was when a soldier and a scientist speak with the monster and find out what the creature thinks of itself and uses the knowledge against it. This book got off to a slow start, I found myself wondering how the creature could be everywhere at once and I also liked the character of Lilly so much that I didn’t like when the focus switched to other characters. The other characters did grow on me though and all my answers about the monster did get answered. I liked the fact that by the end I was feeling some sympathy for the creature as it gets revealed what it is and where it came from. I’m hoping Kerry does a sequel to this story because I’m curious to see what comes next.

By the time I got to the middle of the book I was thinking this was an amazing read. It mixes mythology, philosophy, horror, science fiction and lots of action. There is also a theme of redemption with one of the characters that I liked. You could teach a class from the deeper meanings that come through in this book. Jaggernath is a book that works on several different levels and is a must read for Horror and Science Fiction fans.

When the Reaper first appears from the ocean's depths no one is concerned at the amorphous oddity. Once the viscous slime develops a taste for human flesh, everything changes. Cities are destroyed and humankind is taken to the brink of destruction. Only a few remain.

I began reading Jagannath only a few days ago and was barely able to put it down. When it comes to Thriller writing, Kerry Alan Denny is excellent. Not only is the story exhilarating, starting with fantastic action at it's very beginning, but his use of the of the English language is unparalleled. I don't believe that "passive phrases" are in Mr. Denny's vocabulary, as every single sentence contains action. So, without further ado, into the book.

There are of course many characters center this story, the Reaper (which Jagannath is somewhat in reference to), Kimi the heroine of the story and Lilly the co-heroine. Although not in the mind of the Reaper early on, we see more about how this nasty pile of slime exists later on and what it lusts for and why.

Again, the main character though is Kimi. Losing her family to the Reaper when she was younger, she joins the Enclave, fighting to rid the planet of Reaper's existence. Through losing friends and family to the disgusting, morphing blob, Kimi puts all of her hope in Lilly, a small girl that for some unknown reason is immune to the Reaper's dissolving ways. From fantastic descriptions of the new technology humans have invented to the superb dialog, Kerry Alan Denny paints a very real post-apocalyptic world in which the reader will feel fully immersed, loosing touch with reality.

In conclusion, I would absolutely recommend Jagannath for anyone who loves a good Sci-Fi Thriller. It's a fun read, one that you won't want to put down.

I won this book in a contest the other day and I couldn’t wait to read it. It really intrigue me so I started it right away! The year is 2037, and Corporal Kimi Jayden has one chance to rescue the lone refugee girl who is miraculously immune to Reaper absorption. Thirteen-year-old Lily walks the deserted streets of Savannah alone, ever since the Reaper absorbed her family - and tried and failed to absorb her - a year ago. An amorphous creature that has nearly wiped out civilization, growing as it feeds, the Reaper assimilates its prey's intelligence when it consumes flesh and blood. Growing smarter with each human it absorbs, the Reaper transforms into monsters created from our darkest nightmares - and it loves tormenting its victims.
The story is so unique and the way Denney wrote about this creature it was like it was real. An evil unstoppable monster that is destroying civilization and bringing on the apocalypse, one city at a time. The name describes a hindu god and means lord and master of the universe. Jaggernath is also the origin for the word Juggernaut and this creature is unstoppable, it absorbs humans and assimilates their intelligence growing stronger as it moves along. I was drawn into the story-line and could not put the book down for one second. My favorite character in this book is Jason, a 15 year old boy who will make you laugh as he does his best to protect the people he loves. Lily was a powerful character who was only 13 years old. The monster had killed her parents and also wants her. There is non-stop action all through this book. If I had to sum this book up with just a few words it would be fantastic, adventurous and outstanding! I am so glad I had the honor of reading this book. I am looking forward to reading more from this author.

An amorphous creature mysteriously appeared on Earth and nearly wiped out civilization. The Reaper, as it has come to be known, absorbs its victims intelligence along with their memories. Growing larger and smarter with every feeding it has become impossible to stop.

Corporal Kimi Jayden is on a mission to find the girl who might be able to save them all. Thirteen year old Lily has been alone since the monster absorbed her family a year ago. No one knows why the creature can't absorb her but believe the answer might be in her DNA. Nothing is more important to Kimi than finding her. She is willing to sacrifice her own life if necessary

The Reaper also wants Lily, so the battle begins.

Mr. Denney paints such an incredibly visual picture with his words it makes the non-stop action in JAGANNATH play like a Hollywood blockbuster movie in your head. To which I say two thumbs up!!! There is so much going on in this book. Be prepared to put your life on hold while you read it. If you don't get sucked it right away there is something wrong with you. I mean how can you go wrong with a monster straight from your nightmares, a bad-ass female solider and a young girl who just desperately wants a friend. I can't believe I almost forgot to mention Jason, a 15 yr old boy who will make you laugh out loud as he does he best to protect the people he loves.

I absolutely loved this book !!!!

Kerry is an excellent author who is a master of his skill, there is no doubt about it. His writing style captivates you. The book has an incredibly well developed plot and the pace to read it is exactly what I love the most. Kerry's imagination takes you on quite a journey. He expertly weaves together the story line from the angle of various main characters.

His main characters are a brilliant cast for this story. You truly get everything you can ask for and even some romance thrown in there. I adore Lily who is an incredibly brave heroin at a tender age. Kimi is yet another great addition to the line of female heroines, really carrying an incredible weight throughout this book. And of course this book as a beyond likeable male hero, that fits perfectly in this story. And the villain put in a good effort and was rather unique, which is tough to do in this genre that has come up with most villains you can think of.

I have to say, this would make a great book to be made into a movie since it has everything the lovers of paranormal and horror movies would love!!!

I really can't say enough good things about this book. It was just absolutely perfect. Reading this book was a pure joy and I can only recommend this to fellow readers.

I have received this book from the author for an honest review. (LoP, Lovers of Paranormal)

****I RECEIVED A COPY OF THIS BOOK FROM THE AUTHOR IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW****

Wow, what a ride! Nonstop action, adventure and all around mayhem. Author, Kerry Denney, has done a marvelous job of creating a dystopian world that is frightening and keeps you on the edge of your seat. The plot is a basic good versus evil but it goes so much farther with sub-plots that are hair raising.

The characters are rich and wonderful heroes that encompass the good in humanity and all its redeeming qualities. You will love them and root for them with your whole body as you turn page after page. I just couldn't put this book down! You will find yourself hating bad people and wonder if they could ever be redeemed. Even animals are heroes here and everyone has a contribution for trying to save what little is left of humanity. You will feel good at the end of the book as your belief in humanity and it's goodness shine through the tragedy. I experienced happiness and sadness and anger while reading this great book.

This book is appropriate for all ages and has something for everyone. I am very happy to recommend it to all readers. KUDOS Mr. Denney on a tale very well told.

I was given this book by the author in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

First I would like to say I usually don't review this genre of books. Now let me say, I loved it . The story is so unique and interesting. The creature was very scary because of the forms it could take. Some events in the story happened really fast so you can't put the book down for long. The main characters are so easy to like and follow. I also cried when one of my favorite characters died. Then cheered when some of my other favorite characters survived.

The ending was of the thoughts of the " monster". I was hoping the end would say something like say tunes for book two coming next fall. No such luck. The author did leave a place to write another book if he so chose though. I would highly recommend this story, and any further ones from the book, to anyone.

Jagannath

WOW!!!
My head was spinning with all the action in this one book! I was scared to turn out my lights after reading a chapters. The author really made me feel like I was the character instead of the reader.
She pulled me into the hearts and minds of each character. After losing her parents to the Reaper, Kim had nothing to live for, but to rid the planet of its existence forever. This is the only reason she join the Enclave. She had lose everything to this disgusting creature. Kim only question was how to defeat it, and walk away still breathing? If you are diehard Sci-Fi fan this story will have you walking on clouds for days.
This book is an action packed thrill ride and that will take you on emotional trip in to terror.
I was give this book in exchange for my honest review and I am one a happy reader for it. (Goodreads..LOP)

Jagannath hooked me from the first page. Mr. Denney does a very smart thing and starts this excellent sci-fi thriller well into the storyline. The creature has already come, task forces are well under way. He throws us right into the mix, introducing his smart, complex characters as they prepare for another mission. This one a rescue of Earth's last, best hope. He involves the reader in the same whirlwind of tension, suspense, and action that these characters feel. Brilliant!

The monster of this book--the Reaper--is the most inventive creature I've encountered in more than a decade. With its terrifying and unique abilities, it zeros into our worst fears. Themes of loss, desperation, and paranoia resonate with a poignancy few post-apocalyptic thrillers manage.

Jagannath is a tour de force--so fun, so fast, so clever and scary that I couldn't put it down.

I received this book for free from LoP in exchange for an honest review.

First I just want to say Wow! This took a great imagination to put together. The whole thing seriously reminded me of The Blob but with extra twists. From page 1 you're sucked into the action and it never stops. So many times I thought for sure I knew what was going to happen and then Bam! Thrown for a loop every time. So many twists and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. I didn't want to clean or go to work bc I just had to find out what happened.
Thank you for letting me read and review your book. I really enjoyed it.

I got this book from the author for an honest opinion.
That being said... I wasn't sure at first about this genre but the synopsis made me curious so I asked to read it. It was amazing... some parts were scary.. some parts were funny and overall everything was amazing. This book is a mixture of horror and mythology and so many other types of genres put together and it all flowed so well. The characters stayed with you and kept you on the edge of your seat. I HAD to find out what happened next.. it was like needing to breathe. Amazing

*Warning: Possible Spoilers*

I received this free in exchange for an honest review. It did not affect my opinion in any way.

A mysterious amoeba like creature, dubbed The Reaper, that constantly changes shape is "eating" humans. More like it is absorbing them and "feeding" off of their knowledge and memories. A soldier, Corporal Kimi Jayden is part of a team that is ordered to rescue and bring back a 13 year old girl named Lily. No one knows why, but she is immune to the Reaper's absorption. As she escapes the Reaper, she's kidnapped by a group of horrible and disrespectful human beings. One of the jerk offs - Cooper- only keeps one of his cohorts from raping her b/c he believes her virginity is what's keeping her safe.My first thought was, Again with the female virgin bullshit...It's hinted that this is the reason Lily is immune, but disproved by the fact that there were 2 other children (one male) she encounters later that are not immune (and obviously also virgins due to being very young). Good. I was about to throw the kindle across the room if this was the reason. The Reaper believes itself to be a "God" of sorts, and Lily tells it she's one of "God's little angels". Yes, there is a strong underlying theme of religion in here which is why I thought they were pushing a particular issue (we all know how religions feel about women).

However, the book is well redeemed by the strong female characters. Not just Lily and her bravery and compassion, or a young female doctor who helped invent a weapon to kill the Reaper, but also Kimi who is very strong as a soldier and has no problem rushing to the front lines. I also want to give the author a high five for having male characters who cry. Real men cry, because real men have compassion. I can't stand a guy who thinks "men don't cry" crap.

Kimi goes through hell and high water to get Lily and loses her not once, but several times. I gave this a 4 instead of a 5 because I NEVER would have let Cooper go the first time, let alone 3-4 more times! He's a kidnapper, animal abuser, and like I said - only kept his friend from raping Lily b/c he thought she was his ticket to safety. An asshole like that deserves to die, regardless of how much he fought the Reaper puppets with you. I would have left him outside to die, and showed him what "inhumane" really looked like. It's called karma douche bag... Aside from any real soldier would know, if you don't kill your enemy when you have the chance, they're more likely to kill you. Leaving someone like Cooper alive is too much of a liability.

This had science fiction, action, and was a pretty wild ride all the way through. Some people died, and some pseudo happy endings did happen, but is their horror really over?

Well done. Great read.

You know when the first line of a novel consists of a large black tentical exploding from a wall, you’re in for a fast paced, wild ride. The Jagannath provides just that. It has been a while since I have read a science fiction story, most of what I read is horror or thriller. But I was very pleased with my first in while tread onto Sci-fi turf. The story takes place in the future and a giant shape shifting creature is devouring mankind - pretty cool so far- but mankind has regrouped and is now starting to attack and test the creature for weakneses. This is the part that really drew me into the story. So many “end of the world” storylines show us, mankind, falling apart much too fast, and much too completely in my oppinion. Maybe I am just so full of hope for us, but I feel that if the end came, be it through zombies, aliens or what not, we would band together and stand against it much more than what is depicted in many stories. That’s just what we’ve done in Jagannath.

The character’s in Jagannath range from soldiers to civilains and all are well crafted. There’s Lily, a little girl you’ll grow to love. I won’t give anything away, but it’s made clear that she seems to hold the answers of beating this thing and the story evolves around searching for her. The search is led by a soldier, Kimi. Another character I enjoyed reading about, but not my favorite. My favorite character might be considered an odd choice, but I really liked the way the auhtor handled him. His name is Cooper and he’s a dirt bag. Again, I don’t want to give anything away, but if you read the story, I t hink you’ll like the way it was handled as well. All in all, Jagannath is definitly worth your time reading. It moves fast, has a lot of action, but also focuses on strong character development. It’s got everthing the sci-fi kid in you will love, hovercycles, holgrafic videos, wrist mounted gel guns (gel being a weapon they developed to hurt the Jagannath), hoverships, and of course a menacing creaturing trying to destory mankind.

With Jagannath, Kerry Denney has created a wickedly fierce-paced sci-fi adventure. Earth has been overtaken by a monster that emerged from the black depths of the ocean, devouring everything in its path. Only a 12-year-old girl seems immune to its hunger.

Kerry writes about a world ravaged by a heinous monster, but this same monster unites mankind against a common enemy. It is a story simultaneously horrid and stunning. Within seconds of beginning this tale, the reader will quickly become engrossed in the beauty of the prose.

Denny’s writing is amazingly crisp, while also roaring across the page with the force of a tsunami, taking the reader with him on the journey of a lifetime.

If you haven’t yet discovered the writing of Kerry Alan Denney, Jagannath is a wonderful opportunity to do just that. Denney’s descriptions of bravery amidst a harsh landscape are beautiful. His characters become cherished friends.

Denney has the writing style of an accomplished professional, combining the flavors and tones of our favorite authors into a breathtaking style that is patent Denney. This is an author that can quickly become addictive.

I received a copy of this book from the author and Lover of Paranormal (Goodreads) for the purposes of review. All opinions expressed within this review are my own.

We start out in the midst of a war. Humans vs. something none of them are prepared for. It reminded me of a combination of McCammon's "Swan Song" and Koontz's "Phantoms". This creature is a juggernaut of power. It started out small but as it absorbed more creatures it begins to gain intelligence. It could mimic people who'd been absorbed and often taunted the living this way.

Most of the characters were well done. The one that stood out the most was, Lily. Every chapter she was in held me captive. She's a 13 year old, naive girl who is far more special than she gives herself credit for. She also gets herself into several unsavory situations that didn't always turn out as expected.

The action scenes are drawn out and sometimes became a bit melodramatic but they're never predictable. The good guys aren't always going to win and the wait was well worth it. At times, it had an almost movie-like quality.

I feel there were a few stutters but overall, this is a good Sci-Fi story with lots of action and some endearing and relatable characters.

Wow, was this book amazing! Kerry did a phenomenal job of combining a post-apocalyptic/ Sci-Fi/fantasy book into one epic fight for human survival! I could not put this book down it was so good. This story was told from a few viewpoints which all melded together without negatively impacting the story.

The main characters in this book are: Kimi a soldier who was orphaned as a young teen to a monster devastating the world; Lily another orphaned child of 12, who has a special immunity to this monster and might be the key for the survival of the human race; and there is Jason, a 14 year old boy trying to do the right thing (while committing a few crimes along the way) to help a girl he loves.

Together, along with a few more key characters, they go on an unforgettable journey of survival, self-discovery, and non-stop action against a being that consumes everything in its way and has the ability to take on the shape of lost loved ones. If you want a great story, with lovable characters, then I highly recommend this book!!!

Fantastic story

Kerry Alan Denney is a word artist. There are few writers I would give this term to but this author deserves it. Kerry is also a genre blender. He blends various genres perfectly. The pace of this book is perfect as well. It moves fast when it needs to while slowing at times for character development. In terms of characters and their background and development the author is great at this. What wonderful characters he has created. All characters are realistic and had me rooting for or against them. No character was a stereotype. All of the characters rang true to me. There is a great deal of action and the monster is truly a monster. It is very obvious that the author takes his craft very seriously and has crafted a wonderful book. This is one of the best books I have read in years and it has my highest recommendation.

The first chapter of this had me totally hooked, and I could hardly put it down until I reached the end. I'm not quite sure what genre this book fits into, it's SF and Post Apocalyptic, and Horror and combines all of these so well. Set in a not too distant future earth, humanity is on the brink of destruction, the Reaper a sentient transforming sludge has come forth on the planet, only pockets of survivors survive, the majority in heavily fortified Enclave's, but there is hope, a little girl is caught on camera resisting the monster. The Renegade squad from the nearest enclave must find her, and discover if she can be the answer to mankinds salvation.

The story is engaging, has many twists, turns and surprises, but is told so smoothly and cleanly with multiple characters POV's that it was a pleasure and joy to read.

I finished this book on the same day I started it. I was willing to lose some sleep to get to the last page. Put simply - Jagannath is unstoppable! A mysteriously creature appears from the ocean's floor on a mission to destroy humanity. Its the blend of action, mythology and science fiction that made the reading this book a real pleasure. Author Kerry Alan Denney has a sophisticated writing style that kept me interested all the way through. He creates a completely believable protagonist with good supporting characters. Set in the future, Jagannath is an ambitious story but the author creates a good foundation of realism in order to make the fantastical elements believable. This is one of the great books I have read in a while and I would highly recommend it.

** I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.**

'Jagannath' took me by surprise completely. I was pulled in from the beginning and was hooked. I had a hard time putting it down. The storyline was awesome. A mix of horror, paranormal, supernatural, sci-fi, dystopia and fantasy takes a lot of talent to mix and come out with a great story. And this book definitely delivered. Full of action, suspense and extremely thrilling. The characters were great. Kimi was a strong heroine. I loved her dedication and her tenacity. Lily was such a sweetheart who turned out to be selfless and so very brave. Kerry Alan Denney, yet again, did an amazing job. A great add to your tbr list. Recommended.

I'm exhausted! I'm always in the mood for a good post-apocalyptic story and I was so not disappointed with this one from Mr. Denney! Just a fantastic romp through the wasteland of what was once the USA, trying to survive an ancient horror that had been awakened.

Loved the characters, especially Lilly. If you don't end up just wanting to adopt her for your own, you ain't got a heart. This girl has survived the worst that humans, nature, and a monster from the very pit of hell itself has to offer. And to top it off, she has hope in her heart. Just an amazing character!

The action is fairly non-stop and I really wish I had had the time to read it in one go. I'd imagine it'd be akin to taking part in one of those Spartan Races - it's a good kind of burn though.

Fully read review: http://rabidreads.net/2015/10/03/revi...

I freaking love this book. Amazing villian, great characters, amazing plot, and strong female heroines. What else could a girl ask for? 5/5 and a gold star on my blog, great book and I absolutely do recommend it. I'd recommend it to my DAD, and we don't really ever seem to agree on anything except Brandon Sanderson and George R. R. Martin.

Jagannath was a completely different type of book than my usual reading preference, but I enjoyed it a lot. It had a post apocalyptic, warrior fighting air to it that I tend to lean to. The monster was nothing like I had ever read before. I wasn't crazy about the very ending but since the rest of the book was so good I could look past that and still give it the 5-star rating that I thought it deserved. This was the first book that I'd read by Kerry Denney and I hope it won't be the last. I will be checking out his other book.
