Still recovering from the tragic loss of a good friend, Jack Sigler, callsign: King, leads the Chess Team—a crew of former Delta operators—back into action. But what should be a routine snatch-and-grab to capture a drug cartel leader, escalates out of control, throwing the team into a challenge unlike anything they’ve ever faced. An enemy from their past, who is close to unmasking their identities, joins forces with the psychotic cartel kingpin, setting a trap that will shake the team to its foundations.
While the team battles enemies old and new, King’s fiancée, CDC disease detective, Sara Fogg, struggles to stop a strange outbreak that transforms the infected into ravenous, inhuman monsters. Once responsible for the disappearance of the Roanoke settlers, the disease now threatens to spread across the planet, ending human civilization in a bloodbath of violence.
Hunted by humans and monsters alike, King and the Chess Team face a desperate choice—sacrifice themselves or let the world bleed.

A thriller that cannot be missed in 2015! I was absolutely blown away by the storyline in this adventure. Jeremy Robinson is not stuck in a formula. And, I LOVE THAT!!! I did not know what to expect at any turn. I love reading thrillers.. and could not anticipate one bit of what was about to happen as he took me from Roanoke to the Aztec nation! I am an avid reader of Robinson's novels.. but.. all be danged if I can even begin to fathom how this writer's mind comes up with even half the stuff that he does!
This is one Chess team ride that you do NOT want to miss! If you love thrillers, adventure and twists and turns that you cannot anticipate.. then, this is the book for YOU!
Jeremy Robinson has done it once again - written a taut, action-packed thriller that has your heart pounding and leaves you needing sleep, as you won't want to put it down. In this latest instalment featuring the amazing Chess Team, Jack Sigler and company are in search of the lost colony of Roanoke - the people who left behind the single mysterious word "Croatoan". As good, if not possibly better than previous Chess team books, you cannot go past this great book for a insane thrill ride.
A free copy was provided by the author for an honest review, and it should be noted that I loved it so much, I also bought a copy
The latest Chess Team book is yet another home run. I love this explanation of the lost colony and the Croatoan legend. Particularly the way it links into the existing Chess Team universe. Long time fans of the series will love this release. Anyone new to the series is in for a treat. Creative and higher energy, everything you expect from a Robinson thriller.
Once again Jeremy Robinson and Sean Ellis hit it out of the park with Cannibal. The action is non-stop but doesn't take away from the story being told and you can't help but love these characters. After reading this book you may well decide to become a vegetarian and I wouldn't blame you. I think fans of the CT will love this book. Will things ever be the same for the Chess Team?
Every time I read a Chess Team adventure,I am sure nothing could amaze me more. Well,Robinson and Ellis have served up the ultimate Chess Team to date.I It is filled with danger, excitement and jaw dropping events I never saw coming! Bravo, gentlemen you have stunned me! Please keep writing!
Jeremy Robinson takes the Lost Colony of Roanoke/ Croatoan legend and puts a spin on it, and a rather nasty one at that, which is quite difficult to stomach. I love the Chess Team and there are a few surprises for them in this one which I am looking forward to the author expanding in future books.
What a wild ride - I loved every minute of it! This was such an intense story, although there were parts that made me question my eating choices going forward. I have read these books out of order, so this is only my third Chess Team book. I am going back to the beginning and reading the rest as soon as I can. I love the non-stop action in this series.
Cannibal, the seventh book in the Chess Team series, combines two of my favorite legends with the awesomeness that is a Jack Sigler thriller. The legend of the Lost Roanoke Colony and the Native American legend of the Wendigo are brought together flawlessly along with fast paced action and terror that will leave you breathless. Along with saving the world the Chess Team must also deal with an old enemy who is hell bent on destroying all of them, and just might succeed this time round. I love the way that Jeremy Robinson and Sean Ellis create a richly detailed world and fill it with characters that feel like old friends to those of us that follow this series. I always hate finishing a Chess Team novel because I don't want the story to end. I can't wait for the next one!! I would highly recommend that if you haven't read these books yet you RUN (not walk) to your nearest bookstore and get started. You are missing out on some amazing stories. A fast paced and fabulous 5 star read.
Get ready for the ride of your life..I might be biased but the best Chess Team book ever!!! Jeremy Robinson and Sean Ellis have done it again...It blends the old with the new, from Roanoke to present day...Every member of Chess Team in here..From Jack, Knight , Queen, Rook and the new Bishop (which I am still not to sure about) to Sara, Jack's fiancee, from the CDC...Mind blowing book...You will not be sorry ...So prepare to stay up late and start reading...Enjoy
Another fantastic read by these authors. Although cannibalism has been around, it wasn't quite like this. Some crazy characters in this book, like the leader of the cartel. The Lost Colony is a subject that people have been hunting for for years. Don't think they could imagine something like what happens in this book happening for real, or the reason it was lost in the first place. In order to find out what happens, read the book. You won't regret it!
Heavy into the supernatural with this offering. People after eating tainted meat turn into Wedigos. Their arms and legs extend to the point that they no longer look human. Jack and the team after taking out a drug kingpin, realize there is more than meets the eye on this. While one a mission, Deep Blue shuts everything down as a over zealous senator looks to take the team or its support down. So they are working without a safety net for the majority of the book. Lots of action with a story that centers around settlers that disappeared from the new land with one word left for people to find. Croatoan.
Wow, what an emotional roller coaster ride! While not my favorite book in the series as I had to really suspend disbelief in more than one spot, I still very much enjoyed the thrill of the chase. The story zings across North America at lightening speed and the pages fly by. Events in 3 separate locations ultimately leave the chess team and it's support staff in a position unlike any they have ever seen. I found myself holding my breath several times and wondering how our heroes would survive. This was the thrill ride we have come to expect from the authors and they don't disappointed. Highly recommended for thrill addicts.
Being a bigger fan of ancient history rather than early colonial american, I wasnt as enamored of this entry as others. If it had a bit more Aztec history I would have jumped for 5 stars though that is just my preference. Also I was wanting a bit more info on the origin of the wedigo virus.
The mystery of the book is : wendigo! But it was actually quite enjoyable, usual dumb action hoo-hah with some actual character development thrown in. Knight's plot line was really well-done. And we also get some real world consequence shit, that changes up the usual recipe of these books by a lot. Only a few more entries left now in this series.
this is by far the worst book in the series so far...it escalated stupidly then all of a sudden it was over...im not going to bother with the next book...with Jacks sister coming back from the dead...thats just too past far fetched even for this top fan 🤔
Another fun read . Having a great time binge reading all the Chess team books . All I care about in a book is did I have fun for a few hours and enjoy it . Yes and yes
A very well woven plot. Intricate and detailed characters. This guy is a grand writer in my opinion. I really like the way you put the plots together. You feel like you know a characters
Cannibal by Jeremy Robinson is the 7th full length novel in the the Chess Team or Jack Sigler series. I've read or listened to every one of them and really enjoy them. I'm not going to go into story details as I don't want to have any spoilers but this is what I class as a techno thriller: a novel where there is a military/action setting with a supernatural/paranormal element. My favorite type of book.
I purchased this on audiobook as I was about to do some traveling on my own and am really glad I did. The (as always) excellent writing combined with Jeffrey Kafers' superb narration (I love that mans voice!) made my journey a joy and it passed way too quickly. It also proved useful in making the middle of the night baby feed a lot easier to handle!
The team are back with one member missing and a new one in his place but the dynamics are still there between them as well as with the non chess team members of the 'family' such as Sarah and Ana. As always they face some supernatural type threat that has a scientific explanation although that doesn't make any less scary or deadly.
The novel flowed well, eventually situated in three different locations but the transitions to the characters in each location was smooth and you were never in any doubt of where you were (mainly due to it being clarified in the chapter heading) or who was speaking (also due to Jeffrey Kafers' skill as an audiobook narrator).
One of the things I love about Jeremy Robinsons books is that the paranormal/supernatural element always has a scientific explanation at that end which, although I don't know if that science is real or not, makes me believe it has a real possibility of either having happened in the past or being capable of happening in the future. I figure being able to convince the reader that the Hydra (see 'Pulse', a previous book in the series) is a mythical creature that once was just another species in nature, has to be a sign of a good writing.
The climax of the novel left me feeling bereft before the epilogue simultaneously shocked me and assured me that this wasn't the end of one of my favorite techno thriller series.
Overall another fantastic offering from Jeremy Robinson, only dropping one star due to the overly patriotic US military references which just annoy me because I wish the UK could be more like that!! Can't wait for his next book :)
Cannibal is the latest in the Jeremy Robinson Chess Team series, co-authored with Sean Ellis. The story is an adventure combining the mythos of the lost colony at Roanoke, the ancient Aztec civilization and a Native American tradition.
The Chess Team is once again going after the unknown. This mission will leave them reeling. A treasonous, treacherous senator is working hard to bring down the Chess Team. It looks like he might just succeed. Additional, his actions set off a biological contamination on American soil. King’s fiancé is sent by the CDC to investigate. I love the Chess Team, after the losses sustained in a previous story one would hope for a better mission than this one is turning out to be.
Jeremy and Sean are very successful at drawing us into the story and getting us attached to the characters. By the middle of the story, I was sad, angry, and unbelieving that what was happening could actually be happening. If you are a Jeremy Robinson fan, this is a must read, if you aren’t and you like elite military action combined with imaginative and horrifying monsters you will want to read this book. Then, you might just be drawn to read the rest of the series to get the full effect of Jeremy’s vision. It’s awesome!
I'm big fan of the military thriller, especially ones with a sci-fi horror bent (see Jonathan Maberry's JOE LEDGER series and Greg Beick's Alex Hunter series) and I've especially loved Jeremy Robinson's Jack Sigler/Chess Team series. After the events of OMEGA and SAVAGE one would think that Robinson and his co-writers would have the deceny to let things settle for Jack Sigler and Co. Nope. Cannibal takes them on a helluva ride from the events of the Roanoke mystery to modern day drug cartels who fancy themselves as an Aztec cult. Several plot threads at first seem out of sync with each other but as the story progresses you see them dovetail into one another. I really liked this book but the only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars is that the character developments weren't as balanced as previous books. Knight, the new Bishop and Deep Blue get a lot of screen time but I kept waiting for more time for Queen and Rook. Usually there seems to be a bit more attention spread out over the entire team. It's not a big deal as I love Knight and obviously what he's going through after Savage needs to be addressed. By the end of the book the game has changed again for the team and ends with a great cliffhanger. I just hope I don't have to wait till 2016 to read the next book.
Cannibal, the new Chess Team novel, is a crazy novel, pitting the team against some violent, insidious characters, not necessarily all human. Thrills, chills and action are abound in this seventh full-length book in a fantastic series (there's a growing number of cool novellas too). If you've read the others, why stop now? If you've never read any Jack Sigler/Chess Team books, you should really start all the way at the beginning with Prime, or at least with the second storyline starting book, Savage. I'd suggest starting with Prime, though. It's a heckuva a ride!!
