I was delighted when I finally found this book. Now the story can continue, but now not from one of the main characters, but instead by a brand-new character named Rose.

I would also recommend that people read these books in the order as they came out. If you would only read this book you would be very confused. They do tell us what happened in the previous batch of books, but it is quite limited and you would really need to have read the other books. Not only for the story, but also to find out about the 4 girls mentioned in this book.

In this book we have a new character named Rose, also known as Briar Rose and also known as Sleeping Beauty. I really liked the girl. She is a dare-devil, not shying away from anything scary or dangerous. Which is logical. If you have been treated like fragile for most of your life, and have been prepared for a life of not touching anything that might prick you, anyone would turn to do some fun things before that happens. I loved that Rose wanted to be a knight, wanted to do jousting! It doesn't happen often that we have a girl who wants to be knight, who doesn't shy away from doing dangerous stuff.

Of course there is the clichéd finding your prince, fulfilling your destiny stuff, which just made me roll my eyes a bit. Also I found it weird that our 4 from the other book didn't believe Rose at first. They were there when things were changed, yet they didn't believe her about the changes happening to something of hers. It was just a bit weird and I found it stupid that it was added. Way to discredit the characters from the previous book.

In a way the book felt like it took place over a few weeks, while in actuality it took place in 4 to 5 days. It was a bit weird, but it also made me happy. I don't think I could stand a few weeks of Rose being on edge because of her curse, the 5 days were long enough for that drama.

As expected, we have the whole E.V.I.L thing going on (not that that is going to stop any time soon I guess). This time they got a new plan, and it was quite interesting to see the plan. I am still a bit confused though, why does the principal let these people work for him in the school? They are known to be bad and all that, but they can still work and thus destroy stuff in the process? Maybe he doesn't know, or maybe he cares more about his gold than about firing teachers that are potentially up to no good.

The ending was a bit predictable, but still fun to read. I won't spoil anything though, so you will have to read it to find out what happens. :)

All in all, I really liked this book and I can't wait until book #6 comes out, I will be sure to read it when I can find it.

This one stood out to me from the rest of the series so far because Rose isn't as limited by female conventionalities as many of the other characters.

It was cute.

It mentions some elements from the original Sleeping Beauty tale and the Disney cartoon movie version that we grew up on; like a spinning wheel, curse, and fairies.

It would be good for a young girl, about 5-7 years old.

{My Thoughts} – Rose, which is short for Briar Rose is the newest student to be attending Grimm Academy. This book is about her overcoming her curse while helping to save Grmmlandia to the best of her ability.

Rose is the newest student at the Academy and she has a secret. She is also the princess in which the Sleeping Beauty tale had been written for and or about. She is eleven year-old right now and is suppose to turn twelve in a week, at that point she has to be on the look out for all things dangerous. Her parents decided to send her to the Academy as a means of trying to protect her from the curse that had been bestowed upon her when she was born.

Her first night at the Academy she ends up sleep walking and then wakes up in the Grimm Brothers special room within the library. While she is there she discovers a lot of strange things are taking place. Once she leaves there and makes her way to her classes even stranger things start happening like one of her teachers bringing up her fairytale in class and causing to get her upset and her outing herself as Sleeping Beauty which is something she didn’t want to happen.

After everyone learned she was Sleeping Beauty some of the students began treating her differently because they didn’t know if they could trust her or not. It appears that somehow the members of E.V.I.L. are at it again and are truly trying to destroy Grimmlandia. This time though the plan is to take the place down by using Rose’s curse. They seemingly found a way to rewrite her fairytale and make her seem evil and used her fairytale to also try and make all the individuals that are not a member of E.V.I.L. to fall asleep for 100 years. In that time they figured they could rule and destroy as they pleased.

Rose and a few of her friends come to find out that as they are reading her tale it is changing and then they believe that she isn’t as evil as her tale would suggest so then they have to come up with a way to foil E.V.I.L.’s plan. The question is however, can they foil the plan that is currently in motion?

This book is well written like the rest in the series and I have truly enjoyed reading it. I look forward to reading the next book in the series as soon as I am able. I truly enjoy reading all sorts of fairytale rewrites and this is one of the most brilliant ones I have come across in modern day!

I highly recommend this series for children that love fairytales and want to get a different spin on them. I am certain that all children can learn a thing or two from these books about friendship, teamwork and just being children.

I found the story too rushed. The other four stories were much more elaborated, but this one seemed to be drafted in those five days Rose had before her curse kicked in.
It had it's moments but the overall flow was not really there. The sleepwalking looked like a cheap plot device, the shop episode too. And for Rose wanting to be a knight these lessons should have got more room.
Overall it was a little disappointing, for I like the series a lot. Not enough of the witty wordplay and character interaction that makes it fun to read.
I hope the next installment (with Goldilocks) will be back to the previous level.

Rose (Briar Rose/Sleeping Beauty) needs to rewrite the end of her tale to save herself and her friends from the E.V.I.L. at Grimm Academy. That will be hard to do when someone else is also spinning new tales about Grimm Academy residents. Good thing Rose is a bit of a daredevil who can handle a little danger. The Grimmtastic Girls series give a fresh spin on well-known fairy tales. Sleeping Beauty Dreams Big is one of six books in this series. Books are a mix of humor, mystery, girl power and fairy tale. Sure to be popular at school and public libraries. Recommended for ages 8-11.

I think this was my favorite book in the series so far. I liked Rose a lot, and there was some good plot development for E.V.I.L's plot. I hope Rose stays an integral character as the series progresses.

The Grimmtastic Girls series takes place at Grimm Academy, where the princesses of the familiar fairy tales go to school. Though you do not need to read the earlier books in the series to understand this story, it would help with the background information and give more details about E.V.I.L, the villainous group trying to destroy Grimmlandia. In this book, Briar Rose is excited to go to the academy, but worries that she won't be allowed to follow her dream of becoming a knight. Rose loves her parents, but is getting tired of their overprotective ways. At the school she gets to make new friends, learn knightly skills, travel through a mirror, and help foil E.V.I.L's plot to put the academy to sleep for 100 years. Things are resolved quickly and simply in the story, but then, the book is for younger readers. The authors forget that fact by writing as if Rose is a teenager, though she is only 11 for most of the book. Overall, a series that some students will like.
